7 Year BLOGIVERSARY + a giveaway to say thanks:)

First, you don’t want to miss out on this week’s baby post… it is written by Andrew and it is hilarious.  I give my 32 week update and he shares 15 things not to do when your wife is pregnant.  You can find it HERE!

PS we just got our family pics back from the amazing Lindsey Orton… I’m in love with them!  I’ll share more soon!

7 years of blogging.  That is a whole lot of posts and comments over the years:

Screen Shot 2017 10 18 at 10 05 07 AM

This blog started with this post titled, ‘Awkward.’  I compared the first blog post to a first date and shared a story with you that had nothing to do with anything important in life… and my posts haven’t changed much since then.  I instantly fell in love with blogging.

Over the years there have been some posts that have had more views than all of the others so I thought I would share a few of the top viewed posts (according to Google Analytics).. I’ll go in the order of them happening:

*Running and Periods.  I posted this back in 2011 and I don’t think it was something that was really ever talked about that much back then online… amenorrhea.  I shared my experience and so many other women shared about their experience.  We all helped each other out I hope!

NewImage

*5 ways to push yourself while running especially when you are tired.  I posted this in 2012 and I still do all 5 things:)

NewImage

*When Brooke was born and my birth story with her:)  I’m pretty dang excited to experience this again!

NewImage

*10 things I wish I knew as a new runner.  Learn from my mistakes:)

NewImage

*How I started the Hungry Runner Girl and tips to start your own blog.

NewImage

*Weighing yourself… the scale.  Talked about how I got on the scale after not weighing myself in a very long time (years ago I used to weigh myself daily and sometimes twice a day… obsessively) and things that had helped my body image!

NewImage

*Today was another lie down on the sidewalk day.  This post has my brother’s s’mores bar recipe in it so I think that is where the traffic came from:)

NewImage

*Posts on how I was dealing with my divorce—>  Would I do it all over again or skip over the hard part?  10 things getting me through my divorce.   When it isn’t convenient.  Running makes us better at life.  Thank goodness for time.

IMG 5934 1

*My half marathon PR (first time I broke 1:30.. and this was during a really hard part of life)!

NewImage

*I talked about how much dating had changed over the years in this post!

NewImage

*My Boston Marathon Recap!

NewImage

*My Tucson Marathon Recap… the time I crashed and burned big time during a marathon after 6 months of really great training.

NewImage

*On being a single mom.  I wrote this post right before I met Andrew!  I’m pretty open and vulnerable about the whole situation in this post.

NewImage

*When I first introduced Andrew on the blog!  I had never introduced anyone I was seeing on the blog until Andrew and I think that was probably a big sign to you guys that he was beyond special.

NewImage

*Our proposal story!  He proposed in the perfect way for me!

NewImage

*When I shared that we got married (we changed the date and I didn’t write about it until the day after we got married) & our wedding with a million pictures:)

NewImage

*The difference between running a marathon 30 lbs heavier + my St. George Marathon recap.

NewImage

*Why the holidays can be really hard!  They sure can be.

NewImage

*When we shared our news that we are pregnant with another little one!  Along with first trimester talk and how we found out we were pregnant and how we told our kids about the baby!

NewImage

*My sister’s kitchen remodel… lots of people wanted to see this!

NewImage

*15 pictures from our REALLY special day (when Andrew and I got sealed in the temple).

NewImage

And I can’t wait to keep sharing more and more (I’ll continue to share probably too much information because I don’t know how to not do that) with you in the years ahead! I wanted to thank you today for being my friend (even if it is over the internet… it still counts).  You have taught me a whole lot over these 7 years and I am so thankful for the connections we have been able to make together.  Thank you for sharing your highs and lows with me and helping me in more ways than you’ll ever know (I get teary eyed thinking about some of the emails/comments I have received through some of the hardest times of my life).  You guys mean the world to me and I love that we get to chat together each day.

Thank you for reading and to say thank you I’m buying someone (I wish I could buy all of you) some new running shoes (or if you want some running clothes instead we can chat about that if you win;)!

Your blog shares my birthday!!! I feel like I should have/possibly have known this already. My memory isn’t getting any better these days so who knows? I remember when 43 seemed ancient.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading your blog. I read it every day while I eat my lunch (I am a teacher, and it’s the one part of the day I get some “alone” time), and I look forward to it. I appreciate your positivity and straight-forwardness. Thanks!

I just love your blog, I am just drawn to it. I love the clothes ideas, food, running and recipes and especially your cute family!! My son just went through quite a miserable divorce (I wish his ex had the healthy views about exes and kids that you do). He has a little girl, who is darling, and just got engaged to a wonderful young lady. I hope they have as much of a happy ever after as you have!! I also just finished my first 55k, I have done 18 marathons and tons of halfs but never an ultra and I I didn’t ever think I would but I did it!! I was always the fat girl growing up and this year is the most fit I have ever been!! I am still not good at sports and am actually quite a slow runner but I finished the 55k well below the time that I had estimated so yay!! I do love your blog and have to read it every morning!!

Reply

Thanks for sharing all that you do. I want so much to run for the health benefits, but I hate running. Any suggestions on how one can learn to enjoy running. I’m good with a 100m dash, and have done a 10K, but I would really like to discover the secret to enjoying distance running.

Reply

Congrats on 7 whole years of blogging! You are the first running blog I ever followed daily and you are also my favorite! You bring me so much motivation and insight about running and about living a full and happy life.

I am running my first marathon on December 10, 2017 and my goal is to just enjoy the ride and finish.

Thanks for all your time and effort to help new-ish runners like me to keep going! <33

Here’s something random- I still LOVE reading blogs even though blogging has changed so much over the past few years, but yours is the one I look forward to reading the most! Keep it up, I need you!

I just started to let my dog up in the bed with me and it took him no time at all to get comfy. Last night, he took over half the bed and because I didnt want to disturb him, I curled into a little ball. Why on earth do we let dogs run our life??

Congrats on the blogiversay!
I just moved to CO last week-I’m taking my time adjusting to running in the altitude with 3-5 easy mile runs every few days. (I moved from MN!) I’m also adjusting to a new work schedule and looking for friends, so if you know anyone in the Vail area let me know!! :)

I live in Alaska with my husband and two boys. We moved here when they were 2 and 1, and they are now 18 and 16. It’s been a wonderful place to raise our boys. I love reading your blog! It’s the first thing I do every morning before I even begin working at my desk. :)

Love your blog and I have been following for years!

I have always loved running. At first it was a way my mom and I bonded, then it became my release from anxiety, and now it is all of the above. That’s how I first found you on here. Your love for running and life was contagious. So contagious that I embarrassingly talked to you in public because I had turned into a fan haha. So embarrassing!!
So I guess this is a thank You! Thank you for sharing your joy with all of us!

7 years that’s great! Something about me is that I am a junior high math teacher from Illinois :)

Its funny to see all those posts. Your blog is the first one I ever read regularly and I had to backtrack a lot at first because I felt like I was missing pieces when you would mention previous posts etc. Now I am like…I remember when you posted that! How you mentioned your coach complaining about your chicken wing arms. :)

Reply

Happy Anniversary! I really enjoy reading your blog and have been for yearsss. :) I’m going to tell you about everything you mentioned we should! ;-p

My family is awesome! Both my family and my husband’s family all used to live within 1 hour of each other in So Cal, but over the last 3 years, they’ve all moved away! It’s been fun visiting different states to see them, but holidays are so weird! My relationship with running is on and off – I’ve run 1 half marathon, but other than that, mostly just do it for fun when I want to get outside to sweat. I had a pb&j for breakfast – weird, but delicious! My fave restaurant is a hole-in-the-wall sushi place by my house called Starfish Sushi. Currently I love Nike Frees for non-running workouts!

Congrats on 7 years of blogging! I started reading about a month before Brooke was born so I feel like an honorary auntie!! And friend. So happy to cheer you on in this stage of your life.

I remember so many of the posts you linked from the past 7 years! Where does time go?!

Favorite restaurant is a local hole in wall — we are

Reply

Woo! 7 years! Congratulations!
I started running a little over a year ago.. I would sprint around the block and go .25 of a mile and be over it and walk back! my husband runs (he’s a running coach and pretty competitive) and he would take me out for a run and pace me.. once I figured out I could run longer than .25 I fell in love with it!! Since that year, I signed up for a 1/2 Marathon and then trained for a full Marathon and now I just signed up for my first 50k – I am hooked :)
I love your blog and look forward to reading it every morning! thank you for being open and real about everything
Cheers to another 7+ years!

Congrats on 7 years!!! You’ve been my favorite blogger for a long time now;)

I fell in love with your blog somewhere in the middle. I grew up running and after taking a break I was ready to get back into but for fun. Your blog helped me see the fun in it and gave me new ideas. I owe ya :) I’m a big believer you can never have enough running shoes (2 pairs being delivered tomorrow haha) but I also really love that brooks has clothes that are reflective. Great for those runs in the winter which are usually dark. Thanks for blogging … please don’t stop!

Happy Blogiversary!! I’m so glad that I found your blog in the last year. I think I started reading sometime around your wedding post. I love reading about your family and running. Funny enough, I read a lot of running blogs even though I don’t run. I’m so inspired by runners. I love weight lifting and working on beginning power lifting. I also did a yoga teacher training a few years ago and taught for a bit. I was never into fitness or sports growing up and while I’m still not into sports, I love how weight lifting has made me more confident and felt overall more healthy. I think it’s wonderful to have a blog to look back on how we’ve grown over the years and see our accomplishments, even better to connect with others going through something similar or just inspiring them. Thanks for being part of my daily inspiration.

Congrats on 7 years! I’ve been reading your blog for years, and it continues to be a daily highlight:)

I started reading your blog about 5 years ago and it was a breath of fresh air. I remember crying when you became a single mom and sending you a message the day I read about your news. I’ve enjoyed reading about your journey as a running and seeing the Scenery that Utah has to offer. Only downside when reading your blog, I’m normally hungry by the end of each post. Happy blogiversary

First….you look fabulous!! Second…my randomness to share will be my recent 10k race success. I trained hard all year (completed my first marathon in July) and this past Sunday -finally- earned the 10k PR I had been aiming for this year, as well. I also happened to snag 1st in my age group (40-44). I turned 40 last December and after snagging the PR and AG win, it truly made me reflect on how good things are right now. This has been a great year. (Okay…comment was way longer than anticipated). ?

7 years! Congrats on your anniversary. I remember reading the very first post and thought it was different from anything else and got me hooked. I am excited to start training for another half marathon and get back into fighting shape. Today for lunch (fitting it hits on today) I will be trying the new Cafe Rio that has moved into my town. I have been wanting to eat there since I started reading your blog and now I get the chance and am way too excited!

Reply

Good morning, I love your family photo!! So beautiful! I have been reading your blog for 4 years. I found it through a search for running blogs and yours came up on a list of the best :) The very first post I read was Brooks first birthday. I’ve loved all of your stories and have gained so much inspiration from your perseverance and strength. I hope for 7+ more years of blogging/reading together! Thank you!!!

Happy seven years! I’d love the new shoes :)
I’ve been on the DL because of knee pain, and am working on getting my mileage back up. New shoes could definitely help with that!

Congrats on 7 years! I have been reading for the last 4 or 5. I went back to the beginning at one point and caught up.

My husband and I went to California for the first time a few weeks ago and we absolutely LOVED it. We started looking at jobs and houses out there (only being a tiny bit serious.) I love my job too much right now to even think about leaving Ohio.

Wow I totally remember all those posts from where it all began. I don’t comment very much but you should know you’re a necessary part to my day! I’ve been at 3 different companies since then and still, I get to work and hit the important emails first, get my coffee and read your blog before getting to the rest. When I take a vacation from work I still need to get my workout in, then coffee and read before my day. We’re best friends and you don’t even know it – like most on here :)
I just want to say THANK YOU for being you, for continuing to blog about all the REAL stuff.
You also introduced me to my new favorite shoe , the Glycerin 15’s this year. I need to buy in bulk i love them so much.
OH and I just found out they put in a KNEADERS near me, I finally get to try it after hearing about it for so long!

Since I’ve started reading this blog, Café Rio and Chick fil-a have come to my neighborhood and I’m pretty sure I would not have been as excited as I was to try them out if it weren’t for your blog posts about them! Lol!

Happy blogiversary Janae. You have been so inspiring to so many over the last 7 years. I’m glad I found you ☺️ I’m off to work the early shift at the hospital this morning and enjoyed a coffee while reading your blog pre the beautiful chaos that is health care. Love to you and your family.

I am a mom of five and have been running on and off for five years. When I first started running, within 3 months, I got pregnant, so that derailed me! But I didn’t forget how much I loved it! I lived in AK at the time and the following fall I learned how to run even when it is extremely cold! I was also homeschooling 4 of the kids and doing the bookwork for our business so my running was really sporadic. I’ve been pretty dedicated for what, about a year now! But haven’t gotten over the hump where I feel like I’m a pretty good runner. I ran my first marathon in a September 2015. I had just had an iud put in a month earlier and I started my period on that day so the marathon took me 6 1/2 hours. During training I thought I would cry if I had a bad time, but I didn’t. I cried because I couldn’t believe I did it! Even in 6.5 hours!
Since September 2015 my whole family has been living in a 40 foot Class A motor home, traveling to churches in the US. It’s not a permanent thing, we have one more year to go! I try to run wherever I can. I hate States that don’t have shoulders on the roads!
Since beginning I have run 3 5ks, one 5 mile, two half marathons, and one full marathon.
I love Hungry Running Girl on Instagram to remind me to get out and get going!

The relationship we have with the blogs we read (and I’m assuming the comments on our blogs) is a special one, right? I love it.
I’ll tell you about my family – I have a husband, an amazing husband M, who I’ve been married to for 10.5 years. We have a little boy, Percival (who goes by Peek) who is 19 months. He is the coolest little kid and I think my family is fantastic. I’m from Idaho, husband from Washington – we moved to Minneapolis for 7 years, then relocated to Atlanta for 8 months, and are now settled in Charlotte, NC. I work in the tech industry and M is a stay at home dad. I am new to running, but not new to trying new things. By seeing how you use running as a stress-reliever, goal setter, and happy habit – I’ve started using it that way too! Much better than treating it like a chore to be done and instead have it as a release I reward myself with.
Keep blogging, because it is amazing
(ps, I might have written this right after watching This is Us and got super emotional about the show/your blogging anniversary/my awesome fam. Oh my.)

Congrats on 7 years. Running is hard sometimes. Really, really hard.

Janae, I just want to say thank you for everything you’ve ever done for me. You’ve shown me so much about life and what it means to be a healthy, balanced woman. You have a light and a beautiful spirit about you. I hope I am one day half the woman you are. Thank you for sharing your life here on the blog. I’ve strayed from the blogging world recently to take care of my own mental health, but you have never been a trigger for me. I’m so thankful for you.

Congrats Janae! I am so grateful to have found your blog years ago… you continue to inspire me. I appreciate you sharing your life with us! Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

Congratulations, Janae! You are so inspiring. I’ve read other blogs over the years, but yours is by far my favorite. Your candidness, your infectious energy, your positivity through hard times, your loving family, and your love of life have kept me coming back.
Wishing you 7 more wonderful years!
As for me, I just ran a very hard 1/2 marathon (baa 1/2 marathon). It was unseasonably warm & humid and so things did not go as planned. I got dehydrated (body not absorbing fluids), so my time was about 8 minutes off what I was hoping for. But i remembered your good advice to just keep going, think of good things, and power through the tough times. I wanted to walk sooo many times, but I didn’t. I’m of course disappointed with the result, but it hasn’t ruined my day/month like something like this used to. I guess getting older helps? :-)

This has been my daily paper for the last several years. I just love it and you. such inspiration!!!!

a little about me…ive been running steadily for the last 3 years, on and off for the last 15 years. I just completed my first triathlon and next on my list is a trail run!!! Cheers.

After not running for what seems like ages, I have managed to make my way back onto the treadmill. A new pair of running shoes would be an amazing source of inspiration to keep up the running! I have a full marathon to train for at the beginning of May next and plan to officially start my training at the beginning of November. Yay!
Congrats on 7 years of blogging – that’s a long time in the blog world :)

Congratulations on 7 years! I’ve very much enjoyed your blog for the past few years — you’re an inspiration on many levels. Thank you for brining cottage cheese + grapes into my life and for teaching me chicken + BBQ is the perfecting topping to a sweet potato. (I had no idea potatoes could be cooked in the microwave until you!!!!)

I’ve been dealing with foot pain for about 2 years so I haven’t been running — x-rays, MRIs, injections, PT, etc. and still no relief. the only thing that helps the pain is not running. Apparently I have a “slip” tendon (an extra tendon) in my right foot and it’s not happy. I’d love to try a pair of Brooks that are a little wider in the mid foot and/or have mesh on the outside to allow extra room in hopes that helps things.

Thank you again for sharing your life with us!

Thank you for sharing your life (the good and the bad!) with us all for the last seven years! I appreciate your openness and vulnerability, especially during the harder times. I am so excited for you and Andrew as you expand your family soon!

It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve checked in, but I finally just binge read many, many, many of your posts. I’m always so thankful for all your insight on running and family. You’re post the other day was incredibly helpful, because I’ve been contemplating purchasing a treadmill and after your review of the NordicTrack X22i I am leaning even more heavily toward NordicTrack. Now I just need to convince the hubby (who doesn’t run) that I need it. ?

Congrats! and thanks for all of your posts :). Like many others I do find your posts give me motivation to just get out and run, eat healthy, be happy and find the positives in what I would sometimes think it was a bad run/day.

Right now I’m cooking carrot-coriander soup (https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7003/carrot-and-coriander-soup ), I add a bit of cayenne pepper at the end, I highly recommend it with some warm bread and butter on the side :). My husband prefers it with cheddar cheese and ham quesadillas :P.

This afternoon, I’ll start putting together our camping stuff, we’ll go to the Grand Canyon. Every time someone comes to visit us, we take them there and Monument Valley. I think we really just use our guests as an excuse to go there cause we love it :). I’m hoping we go to Utah over thanksgiving weekend, we’ve only been once to Canyonlands and we saw the most amazing sunset, red clouds over a river inside the canyons <3. We think Utah is absolutely beautiful, if it wasn't for the long drive I think we would be going there more often.

Congrats again, hope you are having a great day :)

I’ve been reading a chick flick romance book, but the setting is Utah and it talks a lot about the areas you also mention. When I read about a certain town, I think oh yep I have heard that before. HA!
