(tank, shorts, shoes)

8 miles @ 8:41 average + a 5-minute core class.

Skeleton PJs are here and ready to be worn every night by Beck and Skye.

(There is a chance we will be getting our new cabinet doors today… I’m attempting being more assertive to help this remodel get finished up🫣)

I’m really enjoying this time we have just the two of us.

Just in case you were wondering where Andrew got his love for Halloween… His grandma sent this picture of her house currently!

Time for my favorite things this week:

*Part of my gum recession problems over the years have been caused by brushing too hard. I have not figured out how to stop until now. I’ll think about it when I start brushing my teeth, and then the next thing I know, I am brushing too hard. I found an electric toothbrush that I absolutely love, and it has a sensor that goes off when you start brushing too hard. It is saving me. I love this new toothbrush of mine and how it monitors me from wrecking my gums.

*Something I am going to try during my massive workout tomorrow (SCARY!)… The other day, I asked one of my friends (he is 52 and has run a 2:47 marathon this year and is currently training for a 100-miler) how he was feeling during the workout, and he replied, “I don’t know; I try not to feel during these workouts.” I thought it was so interesting. Sometimes, I spend so much energy trying to figure out why I feel a certain way, or I slow down to avoid feeling so much during a workout/race… tomorrow, I’m going to try not to feel when things get hard and see how that goes:)

*This Ruched Crewneck is 30% off…

*I’ll be wearing it most often with my favorite cheap ribbed Amazon black skirt.

Random q of the day–> the painters got paint in our sink, and I’m just now figuring out how to get this off?! Can anyone help?

Are you good at being assertive?

-I am not, but this remodel is teaching me to attempt.

Are you looking forward to anything this weekend? Have a long run?

Any loves/passions/hobbies you picked up from your grandparents?

I’m starting to have gum recession in one area. I try to be so gentle and it doesn’t seem to help! So frustrating!
I love your friends workout tip! That’s part of my “Sepp Kuss tempo switch”. Eyes forward, calm the mind to not think or respond to how my legs are feeling.
Also. Sepp Kuss! 🇺🇸
Fun fact. I DM with Aisha Praight Leer and Laura Thweatt about Sepp Kuss.
Good luck on the sink and cabinets. One day it will be done!

Uggg I get it, Molly! I hate gum issues. I hope that area gets better for you! Calm the mind… that’s my goal tomorrow! Ummm that is AMAZING! Chatting with you is so fun so they are loving it, I’m sure. Thanks, one day they will reply to my texts… I hope?!

I love reading how much you adore Sepp Kuss. Fun fact: he’s from my small town, Durango and lives(d) in our neighborhood. His parents still do. Great family and amazing kid/ athlete!

Reply

Um, that is way too awesome!! I saw that his mom is over in Spain now-La Vuelta IG! Sepp is really putting Durango on the map since Bob and Phil loving calling him the kid from Durango.
He definitely is an amazing athlete and person. So much so that I look past him helping crush my beloved Tadej at TdF.
Hope you and Durango celebrate hard on Sunday!!

The painters should come back and fix your sink. This is why they have insurance.

Sooooo so true. It’s crazy because they have put me in a position where I feel like they are doing me a favor by doing this when I’ve paid them and it is their job so I feel so afraid to add anything else to the long list of stuff they haven’t done?! I’ve been so patient but you are right, they need to take care of it. Thanks for the reminder, Tracy. I hope you have a beautiful day!

I have terrible gum recession from brushing too hard when I had braces as a teen. Dentist is now recommending gum grafting surgery. Did you have it? If so, how terrible is the recovery? I think next year is the year I fix all my teeth/gum/mouth problems and I am absolutely dreading it.

Reply

Ugggggg Elizabeth. I am SO so sorry. I will say the gum grafting surgery is 100 times better than it was 10 years ago (I had it done in my 20s and 30s) but it was still pretty rough. I thought I would bounce back last year after mine and kept my schedule normal but then I had it and took about 5 days in bed. I also had a tooth infection situation they had to deal with at the same time so maybe that was the hardest part of the whole thing but I would clear your schedule for a few days to spend in bed.

Good morning! For the paint in the sink, take a razor blade from a box cutter and hold it flat against the sink and slowly scrape it up.

That is SO smart! Thanks for the help Joan and I hope you have a beautiful day!

Try scrubbing your sink with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I was able to remove spots of latex paint from the top of a toilet this way!

This weekend, I’m looking forward to going to the Ohio State Buckeyes football game with the family and packing for our trip to Europe. I’m running the Berlin Marathon, and I’m so excited! Preparing for an international race is stressful, but fun!

I can’t believe you’re still finishing up the remodel… seems like it’s been a long time. Are you close to being done?
I love good clothing finds on Amazon. I could use a fall fresh up , so I may be doing that later (after cleaning the house).
I’m finally heading out for an early morning walk with my run group. We’re walking because 1. I’m bringing the puppy, and 2. We’ve had some injuries in the group. But it has been so long and I can’t wait!
Aaawww… Andrew’s grandma’s house. Fun.
Have a great Friday Janae

13 mile long run this weekend! I am going to DC today to visit museums and a friend. Then relaxing the rest of the weekend before my first day at my new job!

Thanks for the toothbrush recommendation, I too brush way too hard and have receding gums.
I work with contractors, there are good ideas above, but they should fix it. If something goes wrong, it’s on them. Another thing I do with the contractors I work with, is don’t ask, tell. “There is paint in the sink and it needs to be removed before you’re all done. Thanks!” “We need the work to be finished, our remodel has been dragging on too long and we’ve been patient.” If they are busy, you will be the last one to be prioritized if you don’t speak up. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. I am not good at it but getting better. You can do hard things!!
Best thing about the weekend is my sister is visiting for my future daughters-in-law’s shower. So excited!!!

My new dentist pointed out gum recession on my bottom teeth also probably from years of brushing so hard. I’ve always had great teeth, no cavities and avoided braces so I was sad when I heard about the gum recession. I did switch to an electric toothbrush last year and try to be careful.

I’m going apple picking tomorrow. Let the fall festivities begin!

I really hope the electric toothbrush helps you! Keep me updated, gum issues are the worst. Have the best time apple picking and make some apple crisp with them:). Happy weekend, Alicia!

Try Barkeeper’s Friend scouring powder in your sink… I don’t know if it will work on paint, but it got yellow stains on my sink that I tried to get out a dozen other ways and thought were permanent.

Reply

That is amazing that it got it out for you, trying it! Thanks Bailey, have a beautiful weekend!

Definitely trying that tooth brush… every time “gum grafts” get mentioned, I get nervous.

20 miles with Lots of MP paced miles tomorrow… St. George, here we come!

Assertive? Well, I’m an attorney so am paid to be assertive for my clients.. but I am THE WORST self advocate. I always tell people, I promise, I do this really, really well in my day job ;)

Try bar keepers friend for your sink – it is abrasive but not an abrasive or destructive as some other cleaners. (I use it just to keep my white sink pretty). Or if it is oil based, a splash of turpentine? I just don’t know what it would do to the finish of you sink.

Anything house related is so hard for me to be assertive on and I feel like I get bullied by contractors, etc. It’s ridiculous because I ran a huge marketing department and now I run my own business now and in life overall, I am pretty tough, but when we’ve had house stuff done I just get totally intimidated- I guess maybe because it’s an area I don’t know?

Anyway, debating my long run BUT, (and this is such a specific runner thing to know), I am 15.87 miles away from my year goal of running 1,000 miles in 2023 and I am SO tempted to try and do it Saturday. If I do it will be the longest I’ve run in years and years… probably not going to happen (just because of time and the rest of the weekend being crazy) but BOY am I tempted. I am so excited to be completing this goal so early in the year- I try for it every year!

Have a good weekend and good luck on your long run!

Try fingernail polish remover on the paint.

I’m not usually assertive, but I can be when I have to. I had to call Salomon yesterday because they messed up our shoe order. We got 2 pairs in men’s size 8 and none for me. I told them I would return one pair and order another pair in women’s size 5.5 but I expected them to pay for expedited shipping. Fortunately the guy I spoke to was willing to do that. I heard this quote once and I think it helps – “Unspoken expectation is premeditated resentment.” Being assertive doesn’t mean being ugly or rude.

We are having amazing weather so I’m not sure if I’ll do another trail run or a longer bike ride tomorrow. (Sunday is always a rest day.)

My grandmother loved to bake holiday treats, she passed that on to my mom and I continue to tradition.

I love that quote! Putting it on a post-it on my desk NOW!

Janae, I think I’ve mentioned this product before but try bar keepers friend on your sink. I swear by this stuff! I use the cream but it comes in a spray and powder as well. Good luck!

Robin Arzon says in some of her Peloton classes: “Feelings off, power on!” I think about that ALL the time when I get too in my head on a hard run. Your post today made me think this mantra might help you too!
