Skye’s Latest Talent + COPING + a NEW running playlist +Fashion Trend!

A morning bath for Skye… one of my favorite things to do.  The smell of babies right after a bath is heaven.

Along with this… when they hold your thumb and hold it so tight you can’t go anywhere else.

IMG 6586

It was then Brooke’s turn to get ready.  I can’t believe how it seems like she was just as small as Skye in the above pictures and now look at her!  It feels like I blinked my eyes and boom!

IMG 6564

Brooke is really starting a new fashion trend over at her school and we are fully supporting her socks over her pants idea.  It makes her happy which makes me happy.

IMG 6570

On my latest Skye update I asked you guys for good recommendations of nursing sports bras (thank you for all of your comments)!  A bunch of you recommended trying the Senita Speed Feed Nursing Sports Bra and holy cow… it is amazing (and only $32).  I have only tried it with walking but it is so comfortable, it has so much support and it is so easy to unclip the front and nurse.  I think I want to buy 10 of them and just wear these all day, every day.  I can’t thank you enough to those that recommended this bra.  The perfect sports bra (especially right now…) makes the biggest difference.

IMG 6554

Hot chocolate is a big deal for all of us in this family.  We had some for our lunch appetizer yesterday.

IMG 6646

While my sweet potato was cooking I opened up Instagram to find a new message from Jess saying that she was channeling her inner HRG and eating the below meal;)  I laughed because I saw this exactly as I was making the same meal for myself.

IMG 6643

Andrew set out for his run yesterday afternoon and then these three went on a mini walk.  Skye and I stayed home because it was raining (but 45 degrees… I seriously don’t know what has happened to Utah)!

IMG 6642

I am quite impressed by Skye’s latest talent to be able to go from upset along with a pouty face due to me not holding her…

IMG 6622

to asleep within 2 seconds of me picking her up.

IMG 6641

This is what our afternoon looked like.

IMG 6652

At one point Brooke told me she needed to grab something for the baby… and then out she came with the humidifier because she thinks Skye loves it.

IMG 6661

Andrew and I did our date night last night.  AKA he picked up Cafe Rio for dinner.

IMG 6796

And the most exciting part of the day was watching The Bachelor together.  This show is out of control and due to the fact that I have zero drama in my life = I really enjoyed watching their drama.

I have been thinking lately about this quote from How Bad Do You Want It?: Mastering the Psychology of Mind over Muscle (this is probably one of the top three running books that I would 100% recommend reading… it is amazing)!  I really think that one of the keys to becoming good at anything in life (relationships, running, work life, parenting, school… anything) is learning how to cope well with the hard parts and bounce back when setbacks pop up.  I cannot wait to relearn coping with the discomfort that comes on race day/during those tempo miles/from the workouts at the track/any of the miles that may leave me a bit frustrated!  Mental fitness here I come:

————————————————————————————————-

Whenever I have taken time off from running in the past (usually because of injury) I like to get ready for my return with random stuff like new playlists, new gear, a new inspirational quote, new goals etc.  I’ve made my first post-Skye-running-playlist… These are some of the jams I’ll be listening to starting in nine days (along with podcasts too because I can’t get enough of those)!

Just listening to these songs make me want to R.U.N.

You’ve Got The Love by Florence + The Machine

Good Old Days by Macklemore

Welcome Back by Mase  (I thought this song would be appropriate for coming back to running ha)

…Ready For It? Taylor Swift, BloodPop

Glorious by Macklemore

The Greatest Show from The Greatest Showman

This Is Me from The Greatest Showman

Thunder/Young Dumb & Broke by Imagine Dragons & Khalid

Love So Soft by Kelly Clarkson

Kamikaze by MØ

A Little Work by Fergie

Shake It Out by Florence + The Machine

Finess (Remix) by Bruno Mars

Let You Down by NF

End Game by Taylor Swift (the new Taylor Swift album is growing on me:)

Have a great day!

HAHAH yes… isn’t it amazing that everything goes well on top of a salad (at least you and I think every food item can be a salad topping:)! You too Erica!

Is that BBQ sauce on your broccoli?

I can run to pretty much any Taylor Swift song, but there are some really great ones on Kelsea Ballerini’s new album that are good. One that really pumps me up while running is “Miss Me More.” I also started picking up my pace the other day when I had music with me while running, and Hanson’s “MMMBop” came on—ha!

People usually associate me with Wheat Thins and froyo, which I know aren’t complete meals, but people usually tell me they think of me when they eat those things. And I’ve never been on a date, so I’m not super sure what my ideal date night would be, but getting froyo together and sitting on a lifeguard tower watching the sunset or going on a walk somewhere or something sounds like it would be a good way to spend time together and chat.

Reply

JUST ADDED MISS ME MORE… thank you so much Natalie! That sounds like the perfect date and I love both Wheat Thins and froyo so much:) I want to come visit and we can go for those two things! I hope your day is beautiful Natalie!

I love that quote! I’m totally going to have to look into that book.

Brooke just has awesome socks and she wants the world to know. She rocks the look!

The meal I eat the most is probably roasted potatoes, I always have a 5 pound bag in the house. Once I ran out and it was horrible! My ideal date night is a mix between going out and staying home. I love going for a good dinner and then relaxing on the couch to watch a movie or show.

Reply

I want some roasted potatoes… that sounds delicious! I totally agree with you on the perfect date night (getting out and then coming home and being comfortable on the couch ha)! Enjoy your Wednesday Maureen!!

Justin Timberlake’s new album is out on Feb 9th….I’m sure there will be something worth adding to your playlist on there! I’ll keep you updated!

Reply

I can’t wait!!!!! Yes, please do Kelly! Enjoy your Wednesday!

I second Natalie’s comment about Miss Me More by KB. Also, loving the mention above :) lets face it I love anything that involves sweet potatoes and bbq sauce. Sometimes I swap out the broccoli with roasted brussel sprouts!

My absolute ideal date night is picking up dinner from our favorite local restaurant (crab cakes!) and watching Netflix with our dogs curled up with us on the couch. As much as I love getting dressed and going out, yoga pants date with boyfriend sounds SO much better lol!

Reply

Just found it on Spotify! THANK YOU and I’m adding it:) Hahah I hope it’s okay I took a screenshot of it:) I was just so happy and I’m totally going to try the brussel sprouts soon! Thank you! Oh and crab cakes sound so good right now! Enjoy your day Jess!

I used to make these giant sandwiches when I was in high school that my cousins remember well. I don’t make them right now, mostly because eating lunch as a parent is kind of like a sprint for me haha. So maybe they would say that. Then again they would probably just says “she loves food”.

Skye is starting to be so alert! That’s such a fun stage when they start noticing things.

Reply

I need one of these giant sandwiches haha! They would probably say the food thing about me too! Oh I love it… last night she was just staring at me for 10 minutes and it was so funny ha. I hope you are having the best day Jenny!

Reply

Your choice of bread, ranch dressing, mustard, Turkey, ham, lettuce, tomato, salt, pepper, cheese, and pickle. :) I’m pretty sure there’s something I’m missing on it lol. It’s been a while.

Reply

I LOVE when you do playlist posts!!!! I am forever searching for new (to me) music for running! Hoping to check back on these comments to find even more new jams! My current fav is Judah and the lion, suit and jacket.

Reply

I hope you find some good ones! Thank you for the recommendation (I love their take it all back song) and now I’m adding this one! Enjoy the rest of your day!

This weather is insane!! I live in Steamboat Springs, CO at 7200 feet and it rained much of last night?! Finally turned to snow, but things are going to be a mess today :/ Such a weird “winter”.
Enjoy your cuddles :)

Reply

RAINE!?! Okay, that is crazy! Seriously, I’m not mad about missing out on the snow but I’m just hoping it doesn’t mean winter will come in march/april this year ha! I hope you are having a beautiful day and you have the best altitude training:) Thanks Leeann!

Ok seeing Brooke wear socks over her pants makes me want her to be friends with my son. He loves tall socks because football players wear them. So he wants to wear them over his pants so people can see them. They look better over brooks’ leggings she wears than my sons jeans or play pants. But I loved seeing that.

Reply

NO WAY!! Oh I love it! They are starting an awesome trend:) Show your son the picture of Brooke with her socks! I hope your Wednesday is an amazing one Mary!

Reply

Colorado is having the same strange weather! I think it’s only snowed twice this winter where I’m at and we haven’t had freezing days like we usually do. I don’t mind because I don’t like the snow and the cold but it’s weird!

Reply

Okay, that is crazy Kaci! Do you think we are just going to get a late winter or skip snow this year!?

Reply

My niece is all about putting her socks over her pants too! Must be a trend:)

Reply

Oh this makes me so happy ha! They know something we don’t I guess:) Have an awesome day Faith!

Reply

Goodness, The bachelor, That was a lot of kissing for the second episode. He must reek of lipgloss Kinda gross:)

Reply

WE SAID THE SAME THING. We couldn’t believe it! I can’t imagine being on that show for 1 second ha! Keep me updated on your thoughts of who will be the top three in the end:) Have a beautiful day Jenell!

Reply

Brooks moving comfort Fiona is the best high impact bra for nursing runners. I’ve been wearing one for runs for 20 months now. The Taylor Swift album took a couple runs to grown on me but now it’s one of my favorites for tempo runs & hill repeats!

Reply

I LOVE that bra too!!! I just have it in a smaller size so I need to get a bigger one and try it out. Thanks so much Carrie! YES… I agree, it just took some time to get used to. I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Reply

My kids would probably say I eat egg sandwiches the most. They hate the smell and when I’m running late I’ll take one in the car on the way to school and it is misery for them! Seriously, everyone holds their nose and I eat as fast as I can.
If you like NF, I like to run to NF’s Turn the Music Up.

Reply

And I just found it on Spotify and added it… THANK YOU!! The beat is awesome for running! PS now you have me craving an egg sandwich! Have a wonderful day Ali!

Reply

I’ve been loving running to the Thunder song by Imagine Dragons! It’s SOOOO good!! I love running to them and One Republic songs too! Some of the Taylor Swift songs do grow on you after so long! I hope her next album is a little more like her previous albums though for sure!

My idea of a good date night is definitely a yummy take out dinner and a good Rebox movie rental! We actually did that last night and it was soooo needed!

Reply

Seriously that song is so good and I have loved One Republic for so long too:) I totally agree with you about Taylor Swift’s next album. I am so glad you got to get take out and a movie last night… the best. I hope your day is great Chelsea!

Reply

He he, I think of you every time I make sweet potato too :) I just asked my other half what he thinks of for me, and he said scrambled eggs on toast, which is absolutely correct. I don’t usually run to music but I’ve been loving the Greatest Showman soundtrack too. I’m going to be adding it to my marathon playlist. And there’s some mind games right there for you because it’s twelve weeks away and my knee is still too niggly to do long runs on!

Reply

LOL, the hubs is picking up the same dinner for us tonight :) Our city just got a Cafe Rio and we are pretty excited about it! My bff is picking up our kids from church tonight so that we can stay home, eat Cafe Rio, and watch the new This is Us! Best date night ever!

I’ve had students (I teach h.s. English) come back and ask if I still eat carrots and hummus, so I guess that’s something I eat a lot of. I do love sweet potatoes and could probably live off of them though.

Reply

Right now everyone knows I am on an ENORMOUS cantaloupe-eating spree! I have been in this phase for a while and I am completely fine with that! I eat cantaloupe for breakfast every single morning (gobs and gobs of it)! I even wake up thinking about it! It’s my essential food item of the moment! :)

Reply

When I first read your question about your “ideal date” all I could think of was the scene from Miss Congeniality:
Stan Fields: Miss Rhode Island, please describe your idea of a perfect date.
Cheryl “Rhode Island”: That’s a tough one. I’d have to say April 25th. Because it’s not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.

I think most people would associate me with a salad.

I don’t switch up my playlist that often. It seriously has been the same for the past 5 years. I have added songs over the years but I rarely delete any. Which is why there are about 120 songs on it. But it’s always on shuffle so I never get tired of them. I really don’t! And if I ever add a Taylor Swift song to my playlist, call 911 immediately because I’ve obviously been kidnapped. (Sorry / NOT sorry – I can’t stand her )

Reply

BAHAHA YES… I forgot about that movie.. such a classic! Now I need to watch it again:) HA I love what you said about calling 911… I think my sister would have to agree with you! Enjoy the rest of your day Susan!

Is your coral-colored hoodie the Mondetta Performance Gear Valencia model? Love its cut. Have a good day!

Reply

IT SURE IS!!! You are good… I really want another one:) Thanks Christine and I hope your day has been awesome!

Reply

Aww, Skye looks so adorable in that first pic (and all of them for that matter)! Also, that How Bad Do You Want it book sounds like something I need to check out.

Reply

I make new running playlists or listen to whole new (new to me) albums ALL the time. Just wanted to let you know that I put your songs from this post into a Spotify playlist so I could check them out, and then I checked how long the playlist was. I need something between 50-60 minutes for my run after school today, and it’s 57 minutes. Perfect! And thanks!!

Reply

Oh Jess… that is perfect:) I hope you love them and let me know what you think after and how your run goes:)

Reply

I am very much enjoying my polka dotted crazy compression socks right now:). Also, scored a crazy pair of patterned tights at Lulu so those are brightening up my run. And I just got a crazy striped seawall beanie (blue and yellow) from Ciele. Ciele makes awesome caps and beanies. This toque/beanie is made from merino wool and it’s the best.

I tend not to run with music – but when I do, almost any song I like will do.

My favourite meal = anything with chicken and grapes. And anything involving guacamole

We tend to stay in for our date nights – movies, wine etc. Last night I might have made him to dance to one of our favourite songs:)

Have a great day!

Reply

Kristine would you mind sharing the crazy patterned lulu tights? I feel like they never do color so I’m very curious to see what find find you had!!

Reply

Hi, the tight is called the Fast and Free Tight II Nulux 25″. The pattern is called Translucence Alpine White Multi… You can find it on the lululemon website. Yes, I have been noticing they haven’t had a lot of colour lately so this was a nice surprise. Cheers!

Sweet potato FAVORITE (and my kids will eat it)
* Whole wheat pizza crust
* BBQ sauce blended with pureed sweet potato (I promise it;s good and easy to do)
Toppings:
* Mozzarella cheese
* Light roasted red onion
* Cubbed and roasted butternut squash

Reply

Well, I need to try this ASAP!!! Thank you so much Gina and I hope you are having an awesome week!

Reply

Running songs = Praying by Kesha and The Cave by Mumford & Sons

Reply

Thank you Monika… ADDING NOW!!! I hope you have a great rest of your day!

Reply

Isn’t it crazy how much music affects us? I’m currently loving Sorry Not Sorry by Demi Lovato – there’s a little cursing (sorry), but the beat is SO good. I can’t wait to get back to running so I can do a tempo run with this song. Also, I LOVE country – Old Dominion is my favorite right now: Crazy, Beautiful, Sexy and Written in the Sand are such feel-good songs! I listen to these when I run, too!

Reply

My ideal date night is going to Nice Guys Pizza with my husband! Pizza and beer! And decompressing with friends who work there. I want to read that book! Thanks for the recommendation! I need good motivational reads right now! The avengers theme is on my playlist because it reminds me of running victories I’ve had.

Reply

So many songs from The Greatest Showman…..have you seen it yet?

Reply

I haven’t yet… Brooke and Knox both have and so we listen to the music all of the time. I’m going to try to next Tuesday! Have you seen it? I hope you are having a beautiful day Kathy!

Reply

Kamikaze is such a great workout song! I’ve put it on playlists before.

As for date nights I’d much rather stay in and make dinner with my boyfriend and then watch a movie on the couch. While it’s definitely fun to go out sometimes, I prefer one on one time with him.

Reply

I think my favorite “new” running gear right now has to be my Brooks Levitates. I’ve been a pretty devoted Launch girl over the years, but I love the Levitates. I have been digging T Swifts new album as well. It’s very … edgy. I rarely make new playlists these days, but I also don’t listen to music when running as much as I used to either (thanks to Podcasts). I have two trusty workout playlists from college that I still use. The music is so old, but it is so fun! Those playlists have gotten me through a lot of miles. We rarely go out on actual dates, but nothing beats cuddling up on the couch or in front of the fire after a long day and just chilling for a little bit (in my opinion). I don’t know if I have a defining meal, but I am a huge sweet potato girl as well and I have tried your sweet potato and BBQ sauce combo on more than one occasion :)

Who makes that cozy towel that Skye is wrapped in?! It looks so sweet!! I want to get one for my baby boy who is due in 4.5 weeks!!
