Shopping fail, lean beef and why I love Wednesday nights.

Double Fail:

Yesterday I went to the mall with my mom to find a dress for the Endurance Live Event this weekend.  I went to go try stuff on and looked in the mirror for the first time that day to find a stain near my belly button (I am guessing from lunch) and the size sticker near my arm pit…why do I always forget to take those things off?  I can only imagine how many students were making fun of me.

No hangout with my mom is complete without some sort of dessert.   They have an ice cream place in the mall where they make the ice cream with liquid nitrogen.  It’s very scientific.  Did any of you ever watch Bill Nye the Science Guy growing up?  I learned so much from him.

Photo 6

I had the vanilla with marshmallows and snickers (of course) and my mom had the chocolate with brownies and marshmallows.  My love for the white fluffy sugar bombs come directly from her.

Photo 8

I rushed home to change to get in my fighting gear for my new favorite class ever, turbo-kick.  I have a slight obsession with the instructor and I tried to get a picture of her without her noticing.  She is in the adorable purple hoodie sitting on the stage.  PS I love using my running shoes that have too many miles on them for cross-training!

Photo 8 copy

I came home to the best smell in the world.  Billy made us Tri-tip steak with baked potatoes! I thought I stepped into heaven.  In case you were wondering, I just can’t eat vegetables late at night….the thought makes me sick….anyone notice that I haven’t had my beloved broccoli in a few months?  I don’t know if I will ever be able to eat that stuff again.

Photo 8 copy 2

The Beef Checkoff sent me an AWESOME cookbook and I can’t wait to try out every last recipe in there.  The picture on the cover made me drool.  I thought I liked food a lot before getting pregnant….um, imagine that times 1,000,000….it is out of control.  They also sent me a gift card to try out lean beef recipes for myself!

“Eating lean beef daily as part of a heart-healthy diet can decrease risk factors for heart disease as effectively as traditional heart-healthy diets.”  -BOLD.

Other fun facts about beef:  3-oz serving of lean beef has about 150 calories, half of your Daily Value for protein and an excellent source of 10 essential nutrients.  It also promotes satiety and obviously it helps to build muscle, fuel all of our exercising that we crazy people do and help to maintain a healthy weight.

Remember my good friend Jake?  He is an elite marathoner and is trying to up his lean beef intake to help keep his iron levels up. He strongly believes that it helps him to recover quickly from his runs on a regular basis.

I am going to hit up the elliptical and stair climber this morning….wish me luck, that stair climber kills me every time.

Do you use cookbooks or do you mainly get your recipes from the internet? Do you have a favorite cookbook.

Do you eat lean beef?  What is your favorite way to eat it?  Are you a steak fan?

After running….what is your favorite workout?

-Turbo Kick, I can’t get enough.

Do you enjoy learning about nutrition?  Did you take any nutrition classes in college?

-I love learning about it and took a bunch for my health major but I don’t necessarily follow everything I learned (dessert 3 times a day is not recommended).

I get most of my recipes from the internet, or just make something up with whatever is in the house. I’m a steak brat, and really only like the REALLY good and expensive stuff – I just made beef tenderloin this week, this recipe is to die for, it literally melts in your mouth! Other than that, I really don’t care for red meat.
I would say I like my workout dvd’s besides running – if there were classes at my gym, I would probably enjoy them:)
I didn’t take nutrition classes in college, but I LOVE to read and learn new things about it. I almost majored to become a registered dietician, bummer.
Enjoy that stairmaster – have a great day!!!

I get most of my recipes off the internet. I do have a couple of cookbooks but I really haven’t made much from them. I’m not a huge beef fan, but my fiance is so I try to make it once every couple of weeks so he doesn’t go crazy. He puts up with all the weird stuff I try to make lol. And next to running, I love spin class! Gets me pumped every time.

Reply

That apple is ginormous!

Aside from running, I love yoga, biking, and as a former figure skater…roller blading. Roller blading is just so much fun and makes me feel like I’m a little kid again : ) Never too old for it!

Reply

did you find a dress?

I love the stair climber after running–it kicks my booty everytime. But as far as a ‘fun’ workout I love Body Pump.

I am not a fan of beef–but oddly enough I LOVE liver! We get 1/2 cow every year–I eat the liver, the hubby eats the rest.

Reply

I did find a dress wahooo!!! LIVER, no way…I don’t think I have ever even tried liver before!

Reply

I love spinning so much I would marry it. I actually love it a lot more than running, but I’m forcing myself to get out of my spinning comfort zone!

Reply

BAHAHAH I love that you could marry spinning!

Reply

My favourite lean beef dish is spaghetti bolognaise. I load it up with vegies and shower it with parmesan cheese too. Delicious!

I don’t really have a fave workout apart from running… the elliptical I guess but I really want try some new stuff.

I love to learn bout nutrition! I am really interesting in fueling my running and also how different foods can affect your mood. I tend to skip over the chapters about too much candy though ;)

Reply

Your spaghetti description with the cheese made me drool! It really is so interesting to learn about the correlation with food and our mood. The candy chapters make me sad ha!

Reply

I think I’m on the stairmaster today, too– oy vey!

I love your stealth mode pic of your teacher– I do stuff like that all the time!

Reply

man i hate that!!! why is it that you always seem to spill stuff on white clothes!!! that ice cream looks so yummmyy!!

Last week I was hit by an INTENSE craving for beef (probably my body telling me I need iron, and clearly me avoiding leafy greens), so I had a fancy burger at lunch and when I did weekly shopping I picked up a petite sirloin and some extra lean stew beef. Now, I don’t have a grill at my apartment so cooking the steak won’t be quite the same as I am imagining, but I can already taste that beef stew I’m serving up for dinner tonight! My boyfriend is from India and when we first met I was kind of scared he wouldn’t eat beef (or any meat), but rest assured, he’s a carnivore when he’s not back home.

Reply

That sweater… haha. Something I do every time I get a new shirt is FORGET to take off that stupid size tag. At least it was under the arm and not straight across the boob! : )

Reply

Aside from all of the health benefits you listed, beef is really important during pregnancy! i was very anemic during my pregnancy as a lot of women are, beef is the #1 thing pregnant women should eat to prevent anemia.

congrats on the pregnancy!!!

Reply

I have had ice cream like that, janae! There is a place in Kissimmee that does it. It is definitely fun.

Reply

I generally get my recipes online, but I did get a couple of cookbooks this year that I really like, so I’m switching it up.

I LOVE body pump, that’s definitely my favorite exercise after running. Hiking is up there too.

I didn’t take any nutrition classes in college, but I kind of wish I did. Mike always tells me strange things he learned in his and it makes me jealous of his knowledge.

Reply

Ha ha! Get used that that little food stain on your shirt. All of my maternity clothes had stains right there because that is where the food falls when I was shoving it in my mouth in the pregnant hunger panic. And your belly will start sticking out and catching it all! I couldn’t eat vegetables when pregnant. The thought of red peppers, one of my favorite things, made me shiver with disgust. I don’t eat a lot of beef, but I do occasionally crave a nice steak or burger, and when I do I make sure I get it, just in case it’s a need for iron.

Reply

BHAAHAHA That is exactly what happened to me, I was eating as fast as possible because of the pregnant hunger panic and the stomach caught it first! Red peppers..that is interesting!!!

Reply

I like both. I have been getting some great cookbooks from the library at the moment.

I love shredded beef in Mexican food (doubt that is lean) and I love a burger once in a while (In N Out and Five Guys are pretty banging)

I have been LOVING zumba!

Reply

I definitely use recipes from Pinterest, not cookbooks…much cheaper that way!

Mmm I love steak… it’s good to hear that it’s good for you because I feel like I always read about how bad it is for us!

I love how you said after running…. LoL…. I would have to say Spin. It kicks my butt every single time!

I took a Health class in college, I love learning about nutrition… it’s fun to me, and yes I am a nerd!

PS. Awhile ago I told you I am doing my first half marathon in May… welp now I am signed up (thanks to my hubbie for a full MARATHON too!!! They are both Marine Corp races and in DC!!! The registration for the marathon sold out in 2.5 hours yesterday!!! I am not going to be able to get any work done because it is all I can think about right now! 

Reply

When I was pregnant I could not stand the smell of vegetables cooking! I had to leave our section of the office when someone was heating up their lunch in the microwave that included veggies. It just made my stomach turn. I was OK with eating raw veggies. The smell of Mexican food also made me feel ill. It all was fine after my baby was born. I’m sure you’ll go back to your broccoli obsession once your little runner is born. don’t worry!

I use cookbooks and the internet.I just made “Cheese Enchilada Chowder” in my crockpot yesterday that I got from a Slow Cooker magazine. Yummy. I’ll send it along if you’d like.

I love Pilates!

I forget the other questions. Have an awesome day!

Reply

I LOVE learning about nutrition and have even considered becoming a holistic nutritionist!

My fave workout after running is yoga, it’s the only way I get my stretching in!

Enjoy your day and I hope all your size stickers have been taken off this morning ;)

Reply

I have a master’s degree in nutrition, so…. lots of nutrition classes. I was lucky enough to go to Tufts and many of my professors were scientists interviewed on the news, bestseller authors, and on government advisory panels. I was star-struck in several classes! That being said, the boy will tell you I’m not afraid of butter (whatever, I have super-humanly low cholesterol). I have a problem with cookbook hoarding but I think I cook most from Cooking Light magazine. Their philosophy aligns with mine fairly well.

No beef for me. I’ve never liked it very much and I have an issue with the way the vast majority of cows are raised. I shoot for local/humanely raised poultry and sustainably sourced seafood, and there are many days that I end up eating vegetarian.

Reply

THat is awesome that you have a master’s in nutrition…teach me everything you know:) I love butter too! Cooking Light has great recipes!

Reply

I use both the internet and cookbooks for recipes – I have a collection of cookbooks at home but my go-to is The Joy of Cooking (the CLASSIC!)

I do eat lean beef – I’m all about using 90% or 93% lean ground beef to make hamburgers, lasagna, potstickers, ravioli, etc., etc., etc. I don’t eat red meat very often so it does feel good to get some iron every once in awhile.

After running, my favorite workout is yoga, for sure! It keeps me balanced and it always feels so good to stretch out all my stiff muscles. Plus, I find it’s not too difficult to do yoga even when you’re not up for a workout.

LOVE learning about nutrition! Wish I could have taken classes for it back in college. Now my learning about nutrition is just through magazines, newspapers, the internet, etc.

Wow, too many miles on the gorgeous Wave Rider 15s, eh? Those shoes are definitely keepers for cross-training – they are too pretty to go to waste!

Reply

Okay, I have to change my answer to yoga too….it really does help with balance so much! They really are so pretty ha! YUM……I may need your ravioli recipe, that sounds so good!

Reply

I love cookbooks. The best one my old roommate had was The Betty Crocker cookbook. It was a 3 ring binder full of everything you could ever need to make. I dont usually cook from cookbooks even though I love reading them.
I usually just see what I have and throw it all together and something really delicious comes out 9 out of 10 times so it works. :D
I like steak. Kabob it, grill it, broil it however but only about 1 time a week. My boyfriend LOVES London Broil but I just can’t get into it. I have to have a craving for it.
Yoga Yoga Yoga is my favorite workout even though it has been awhile since going to classes. I do the DVD’s at home.
P.S. That scientific ice cream looks awesome to me. Is it the same nutrition as the regular stuff?

Reply

HEY JESI!! I am not sure about the nutrition about it but you do choose premium, low fat or fat free yogurt as the ice cream base but I choose the premium every time because it is the best. GOOD for you to do so much yoga….aren’t the benefits of yoga amazing?

Reply

When I was pregnant, I couldn’t stand the *smell* of lettuce. It would literally make me gag. Everyone replied, “Lettuce has a smell?” I’m here to tell you it does! I get most of my recipes from the internet – Ourbestbites.com and sixsistersstuff.com are two of my favorite sites. I try to skinny them up the best I can to make them healthier.

Reply

Gahhh that ice-cream looks so good! Why must I be lactose intolerant!!!!!
After running, my fav workouts are lifting weights and long bike rides outside. There’s a bike path by me that goes for 20 miles along the lake and is gorgeous! I’m waiting anxiously for all the ice to melt!

And I took two nutrition classes last semester and loved them! One was fundamentals and was just all about the different nutrietns and the other was about obesity. We watched some pretty epic videos in that class. Ever seen this epic meal time giant smore one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvF3UZg3NoQ&feature=related

Reply

I can’t wait to watch the link when I get home from work (no you-tube here)!!! Can you take medicine to help with your lactose intolerance? I am so happy you have such a great path to use…melt ice melt!

Reply

I love lean beef but rarely eat it unless I’m eating out, I’m not too ambitious in the kitchen! And I usually don’t follow recipes, I just kind of make things up or go along the lines of what I saw in a blog. Haha it’s just me, so if it doesn’t turn out then that’s fine! I also LOVE learning about nutrition! I seriously wonder why I’m in law school sometimes. And that ice cream looks SO GOOD. Ahhhh now I want ice cream for breakfast!

Reply

THat is awesome you make things up…teach me how to do that. What is wrong with ice cream for bfast;) Um…you are going to be an incredible lawyer!

Reply

I love Turbo Kick! I used to take it at school last semester, but when I transferred to a different one, they no longer had it :( Luckily my gym offers cardio kickboxing which is extremely similar!

Reply

What is the difference between cardio and turbo kickboxing? Glad your new gym has it!

Reply

Turbo kick has a “turbo” section in it where theres like a blast of cardio and intense movement, and the cardio kickboxing at my gym doesn’t have that section. Other then that, they’re basically the same ;)

Reply

Liquid Nitrogen as a part of the ice cream making process!? Amazing! Is it really really cold, I can’t imagine it warming without melting! Liquid nitro gets super cold!

Reply

YES, it is awesome! The store is called Sub Zero and here is the link where they talk about the process more!
http://www.subzeroicecream.com/education/fun-facts-of-nitrogen/

I think I get about 30% from cookbooks and 50% from the Internet – mainly blogs and the other 20% I create.
Nope I do not eat beef or pork!
I would have to say weight workouts, over the past few months I have been running less and started to love lifting weights.
I love learning about nutrition and wish I would have taken classes in school!

Reply

Teach me how to create recipes! That is awesome that you are getting more into weights…way to go Lindsey!

Reply

it was sub zero, right? you HAVE to try the marshmallow ice cream. put whatever you want in it. i do reese’s cups, but that ice cream is the BEST. and i hope you got premium and not 2% or yogurt. that would be wrong.

i love tri tip! my neighbor makes it and it is the best ever. it has been a while since i’ve had any and i think i will now text him and tell him i am due for some.

Reply

YES…it was sub zero and now I have to get today and get the marshmallow flavor. Oh yes, I always go for premium! Hope you are having an amazing day!

I always check the stains on my grandma’s shirt to see what she had for lunch. Sadly I take after her, so you can do the same with me. :) Did you ever find and buy a dress?

I LOVE to take long bike rides in the summer! I use the bike trainer in the winter, and I don’t mind that either. I also really do like strength work and weight lifting.

I haven’t eaten red meat in about 15 years, and I never liked it before that, either. Just can’t seem to stomach it. I have a history of anemia since I was 6 years old so I do get my iron levels checked, and I do work hard to keep that balanced.

I own tons of cookbooks, but I just seem to read them like any other book. When I look for a recipe, it’s online. For the most part I just Iron Chef it, though. I see what we have or what needs to be used up and come up with something. We actually usually enjoy those creations more than anything!

Reply

HAAAA!!! Good to know I am not alone in spilling everything on myself. I did find a dress…I can’t wait to show you! Long rides are the best, they help me relieve stress big time! Do you take iron pills?

Reply

I do take iron. I take a multi with iron every day, and then an extra iron supplement when needed. When I was a kid, I had to take liquid Geritol because I couldn’t swallow pills. And I was forced to eat liver. Both for my own good, but I am glad there are better ways to get your iron!

Reply

I use some recipes from the internet and cookbooks (my grandma gave me some that her church put together so they are all down home recipes), but I mostly make stuff that my family passed down..nothing crazy, just chicken fried chicken/steak, I love to just season my steak and veggies and grill out (I would do this everyday if I had a propane grill…oh the glory days).

I LOVE NY Strip…is that lean? I season it with Adam’s House Rub (found at HEB) and dip it into horseradish sauce. so good! That’s what I eat every Sunday Dinner.

BodyPump. Love BodyPump. I will literally plan my friday night around making it to BP Sat morning so I get in my three for the week (MWSat). I always feel strong after lifting, especially the squats! Squats + Jes = BFFL

I do enjoy learning about nutrition. I wish that I had taken a class in college, but I switched my major so many times that I didn’t have anyway to add it in since I already had so many wasted credits :(

Reply

THat is awesome that you keep the family recipes alive. NY STRIP is incredible, I need to have that for Sunday Dinners:) You motivate me to do more Pump…thank you!

Reply

I can’t do veggies at night either!! I feel a little more ‘normal’ now :)

I leave tags on my clothing ALL the time, it’s a gift really.

Reply

HAHAHA good to know I am not alone! I am so happy you are feeling better now. Your 11 weeks post made me so happy because I couldn’t agree more with you on ALL of those things! Especially the one about if you weren’t carrying Ken’s baby…hahahah!

Reply

I love red meat, especially after a long run. A good burger and steak tips with bbq sauce are my favs. I use a few cookbooks, and get recipes online.

Just have to tell you I am one of the lucky ones that got into Marine Corps Marathon!!!! It will be my second marathon, can’t wait.

Reply

You are so right…nothing is better after a long run (as long as there are french fries with the burger too). AHHHHHH BETHANY!!!I am so so happy for you that you got into Marine Corps Marathon, you are going to rock it! What are your goals? I want to hear all about it!

Reply

Love the baby belly! Remember I’m old enouth to be your mother. I finished my first marthon in 4:48 and would like to be around 4:40 for MCM. I’m currently looking for training plan with a few more miles. I used Hal Higdons Novice 1 the first time and only had one 20 mile run and a max of 36 miles in week. I currently run 28-30 miles a week. If you have any suggestions let me know. I’m thinking about Hal’s Intermediate 1 plan with two 20 mile runs and a max of 44 miles per week. Long run tomorrow with my friend Kris. Have a great weekend!

Reply

I love that you write about and promote what you eat, especially meat and desserts. So many of my running and triathlon friends are vegan or eat all that healthy crap. It’s nice to know that you can be fast and still eat “normal” food. Thanks!

Reply

Thanks so much Meredith!! Your comment made me smile:)

Reply

i get my recipes from a mixture of cookbooks and online! fave cookbook is my NY Times one, and fave online is allrecipes.com (AND blogs, good recipes all over the place!)

i dont eat alot of beef. i’m more of a fish/chicken person. BUT when i’m in the mood for a good steak, nothing else matters, i need it.

spinning is my 2nd fave to running!

i do enjoy learning about nutrition…unfortunately i was still pretty unhealthy in college, so that def wasnt on my to-do list to take ;)

have a great day gorgeous girl!

Reply

I LOVE allrecipes.com!!! Now you have me craving some good fish! I wish we could spin together! HOPE YOU ARE HAVING A GREAT DAY!

Reply

how many weeks are you? I STILL can’t eat portabello mushrooms. I got sooooo sick with those pregnant with E. Oy.

Reply

16 weeks wahoo!!

Reply

I get most of my recipes from the Internet. I’m so busy that having recipes at my fingertips when I’m at the grocery story makes life easier! I’ve hated red meat since i was a child. Chicken and shrimp is the only meat I’ve ever eaten. I’m Very anemic, but I eat tons of iron-loaded veggies and take iron pills daily. You def need to up your iron intake triple-fold. Red meat makes that so easy.
I LOVE teaching nutrition. Nutrition is one of my degrees and it’s my second fav course to teach. I teach nutrition at the high school and college level. I also hold monthly seminars at two of the gyms where I teach aerobics and personal train.
Bootcamp is my fav workout!!

Reply

You are right that internet recipes make it so much easier when you are at the grocery store. What is your FIRST favorite course that you teach? I want to come to your monthly seminars!!!

Hey Janae! Congratulations on the pregnancy! I haven’t been on the blog in a while and was delighted to hear of your wonderful news :)

I can tell you that the stains-on-shirt thing gets only worse as the weeks pass. I cannot have a shirt on for an hour without getting it stained! My hubby laughs at me and says all the food that used to end up on the floor now ends up on my now hugely protruding belly!

I eat beef all the time, love it. Usually buy 90 or 93% lean, lean stew meat and I like a nice sirloin strip steak.

I have a few cookbooks I love – Silver Palate cookbook, Williams Sonoma cookbook, Martha Stewart and the Cooks illustrated cookbook I got for christmas is amazing! Though I often use the internet also, or my collection of bon appetit magazines.

Besides running, I love hiking, snowboarding, and biking (mountain & road).

I love learning/knowing about nutrition. I didn’t take any classes but I read a lot about it, i find it very interesting.

Reply

AHH THANK YOU LAURA!!! Ha….that is hilarious what your husband says. How far along are you? Williams Sonoma cookbook is beautiful, I want to frame it. Hope you are having an amazing day!

A little over 35 weeks now, so not long to go to meet little miss!

Enjoy it!

I’ve been looking at recipes all morning now! I am trying to get some new, healthy recipes so I can start cooking more. One of the most important things to me is making something that I can have for lunch the next day as leftovers.

I am enjoying yoga and want to get back to going to classes. I just got a groupon for Bikram classes so once I move, I’m there!

Sounds like you will have a crazy end to the summer with moving and baby! I am so happy for you though. I think you and Billy will make amazing parents.

Reply

I love it when I make a good dinner AND get to have it for lunch the next day. Let me know if you find anything amazing! Thanks so much Mallory and yeah..it is going to be a crazy summer ha!

I used to live on broccoli than when I hot pregnant I couldn’t even stand the sight of it. Our relationship definitly isn’t what it was before but at least were back on track now!

Reply

WOW…thank you Lisa for letting me know about your experience. I used to go through a crate of broccoli a week and now can’t even look at it!

Reply

for the first trimester I couldn’t eat any vegetables at all, thought of salad made me sick! I lived on slices of toast and cheese, subway, soup and the occasional fast food hamburger!

Reply

I have a tendency to read cookbooks for inspiration, but never follow them to a tee e.g. I love to use vegan cookbooks for interesting ways to prep veggies, but I don’t eat soy etc, so always happily modify!

I love steak tartare, which grosses people out somewhat. I only have it in France though (not confident with British Beef). Yoga comes after running for me and I love learning about health & nutrition in general :)

Have a great day!

Reply

I love just reading cookbooks too! YUMMMM….I love steak tartare too, I haven’t had it forever. Hope you are having an amazing day!

Reply

Bill nye the science guy was the bestttttt ! We would always watch that in middle school haha
I usually just get recipes from the internet!
I do eat lean red meat sometimes. Not alll the time, but I usually make it when I’m at home.
Strength training :)
I love learning about nutrition but I haven’t taken any classes! It doesn’t coincide with my major =/

Reply

Good to know you watched Bill Nye also! You inspire me to do strength training. Have an amazing day!

Reply

I know you said thinking girl, but a friend just had a boy and she went from being vegetarian to eating red meat 5 times a week while pregnant.

Nutrition/food……..one of my biggest hobbies.

Reply

Uh oh……ha, maybe I am wrong because I can’t stop getting enough red meat. HOW ARE YOU ERICA?!?! I need details!

Reply

Oh man, my sister had the same reaction to bananas with her first pregnancy, she still can’t stand them, she can’t even feed them to her kids! haha.

I use recipes for inspiration, but I rarely follow one exactly. I prefer to wing it :)

I LOVE steak. For budgetary reasons we usually don’t have just a steak, we will make a stir fry to make it last or something, but I love me a good grilled steak!!

Reply

i loveeee cookbooks! i hoard them…

Reply

I am OBSESSED with learning about nutrition, talking about it, blogging about it… you name it! My current fave cookbook is Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean Cookbook.. I want to be her, she’s amazing :)

Current favourite non-running workout (does the bike trainer count?) would probably be bootcamp. Bob Harper kicks my @ss every time (on dvd of course..)

PS I died laughing when I saw the pic from your class above – I think every blogger can relate to the ‘sneaky look like I’m playing with my phone but secretly taking pictures for the blog’ thing! I’m really less stealthy than I think I am. I learn then when I actually upload my pictures from my phone later and there’s a person in the pic looking at me like I’m insane. The joys of being a blogger!

Reply

I love cookbooks. I use Mama Pea’s a lot and all the Giada ones.

Reply

I usually get my recipes off of the internet, but I like the feeling of using an actual book. It reminds me of helping my mom make things out of her collection of cookbooks when I was a kid. I just don’t know if I would buy myself one … but I’m one of those weirdos that would like a cookbook as a gift :)

Reply

I have a ton of cookbooks sitting on my shelf, but it’s so much easier to use the internet! You can type in what you’re looking for, see comments and reviews and pictures!

I love some lean beef! I love it in tacos and spaghetti. And I LOVE steak. If I ever have a special occasion, I want to go to a good steak house. Yum!

I would say my favorite workout other than running right now is spin- but I’d love to try other classes. My gym doesn’t have a whole lot of other options.

I LOVE learning about nutrition. I took one health class in college, but only because I had too. It’s a recent obsession!!

Have fun this weekend in LA, Janae! Are you on spring break next week? I AMM!! YAY for teachers!!

Reply

I am so glad I am not alone. You have no idea how many times my husband has come home from work and pulled a size sticker off my clothes. And just last Saturday when we were on our date night, I spilled and he said (and I quote) ‘It wouldn’t be a meal without Megan spilling on herself.’ I am pretty cool. It’s ridiculous.

Please don’t rub it in my face that you got to go to Turbokick. The classes are held in the early AM hours at my gym on Monday, Thursday and Saturday and this last week my hubby has had to go into work early so I haven’t been to Turbo in a week. Needless to say, I have been going through withdrawls.

Before I switched to health education, I was doing diatetics in college (then I realized I sucked at Chemistry) so I love nutrition, but knowing it and practicing it are not the same. lol. What can I say, I have a sweet tooth!

On a random side note about pregnancy and food, I kind of LOVE peanut butter. Like, maybe it is unhealthy. I put it on everything. When I was prego with my first it was the only thing that I could not eat the entire pregnancy. The smell made me sick. My husband thought it was hilarious (because he thinks it is gross how much I eat). As soon as I had her, I could eat it again. But guess what? My daughter is allergic to nuts! Weird, huh? I swear she was allergic in utero. Totally possible, right?

Reply

MEGAN….I can’t come near peanut butter anymore…even the peanut butter cups make me sick. She is allergic to nuts? NO WAY!! Even typing the word peanut butter is making me sick! COME TO TURBO KICK WITH ME!

Reply

I normally just get my recipes from the web or from other blogs. I just tried a great wheat berry salad that was really good!

Lol! I was in Mcd’s a few months back and this little old man was in front of me and he had his sticker on his leg. Bless his heart. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but his jeans were really dark and the sticker was white. I wished one of the other guys standing in line would have said something, but they didn’t… dorks.

I love learning about nutrition! That is one of the main reasons I look at blogs and why I started one. :)

I love cookbooks – I read them like novels. :) Usually cover to cover in one sitting.

I do love beef – we eat fresh (from a local farm) lean ground beef, steaks, and roasts. I think we typically eat beef 1-3 times per week.

Zumba and hip hop dance, of course!

I’m basically obsessed with learning more and more about nutrition. My undergrad is in sports medicine and exercise science, so I took a few nutrition classes in college. I’m always looking for new research and articles to read about food and how it affects the body!

I love spinning and yoga.
I have a bunch of cookbooks, but the internet usually wins out. I need to use the cookbooks more. My newest one is Thrive by Brendan Braizer.
I just recently started adding lean meat back in to my diet. I’ve never liked steak, but I’m digging lean bison and elk right now.

I use all recipes.com but I imagine you do too :) I like that they have reviews so you can find out how people altered what they liked and didn’t like etc.

YES…love that sight and the reviews are so helpful!

Hey! Haha I finally learned to triple-check everything I wear for stickers et cetera because I always seem to miss some when I don’t .
I actually study nutrition so yeah, I love to learn about it! That’s actually why I commented here; I see the study was done by the national cattleman beef association so it could be a little biased? I don’t know anything else about the study so I can’t say if it’s not a good one or not and I think lean beef definitely isn’t unhealthy but maybe take it with a grain of salt? Just my 0.02$ :)

Also I haven’t yet congratulated you yet with your pregnancy! I was smiling SO MUCH when I read your announcement! :D So happy for the 2 of you! xx

HEY MIRIAM!! That is so awesome that you are studying nutrition wahoo! I am so glad you commented. Thank you for adding your .o2$….it is important to not instantly believe everything you see or read and to do the research for yourself and really find out what is the best for you and for your diet. For me, I completely agree with the importance of lean meat in my diet and that is why I wanted to share it! Hope you are having an amazing day and thank you so much for you CONGRATS WAHOO:)

I totally get your broccoli aversion. We used to eat these seasoned turkey breasts all the time and when I was about 6 weeks pregnant I smelled one in the fridge and almost hurled. They still gross me out and it’s been 5 years!
I LOVE steak and beef in general. I really crave it after long runs and I craved it during both my pregnancies. I guess I need it!
My favorite workout after running is Body Pump. It kills me every time and I love that it works your whole body in 1 hour. I really wish I had more time to do it!
Have a great day!

I love beef! I try to limit us to beef only once or twice a week though. This week we had lean burgers on Sunday and steak roll-ups on Monday.

I am always so paranoid about price stickers, i’ve done that before too, lol!

Reply

Did you find a cute dress?! I ALWAYS leave the price tags on by accident and then my husband sees them and thinks I’m an idiot. A very common occurrence!

I make up a lot of my recipes–and get some from sisters and my mom!

Where is the Turbo kick at? BYU or Golds? That might be Shukria…..she is an awesome instructor (we taught together at 24HR in Provo).

Anyways, I LOVE Zumba and BodyPUMP –but that’s because I teach ’em! I also love me some yoga once in awhile.

Random question? Is your iphone cover and Otterbox? Do you like it?

Reply

Yes it is and I love it! I have dropped it so many times and it hasn’t broken!

Reply

I got one and I love it too! Just came in the mail yesterday but I love it so much already!

Turbo kick is insanely popular at my gym but I can never make a class! I think I choose Spin or CrossFit for fav workouts. Running will always be a fav.

Dinner waiting when you get home. Well done, Billy. I knew he was bright! :)

After running, my favorite is spin!! I haven’t done it in so long, but I will have a gym membership at my school next year and I can’t wait to go back!

I don’t eat beef for religious reasons but I definitely agree it being a part of a healthy diet- eating it would help my low iron levels tremendously! I love learning about nutrition- more more!

Thank you for providing evidence to my husband that I’m not crazy! I’m 8 weeks along in my pregnancy and the smell, taste, and thought of eating cooked and roasted savory veggies (sweet ones like carrots and corn are ok) completely grosses me out. I’m happy to know I’m not the only one.

I have that same necklace. And stain on several shirts. I like your style crazy.

I get my recipes from the internet and the Food Network magazine. I love the Food Network magazine. This month’s issue is all about chocolate, yum.

I actually prefer beef to chicken. I think I ate too much of it when I was younger. I can only eat chicken if it has been marinating for many hours and is grilled.

My favorite workout besides running is HIIT. I will either make up an HIIT workout or follow one on bodyrock.tv.

I love to learn about nutrition. I like it so much that I majored in it and became a registered dietitian.

I use cookbooks. I will not make a receipe unless I see a picture of the finished product.

I love learning about nutrition, but I am basically self-taught. Oh well, personal experience is the best education you can get, I think :)!

That tri tip looks yummy! Thanks again for the post Janae :)

Thank you so much Allison!

I bookmark a ton of recipes online …and don’t try enough.

I learned about nutrition at a really young age as a diabetic and not only worked with registered dietitians but educated myself by reading creditable articles and keeping an eye out for new products/trends/info. I was always rattling off information to my friends (not preaching!)
