Playing mind games + one thing I didn’t like about my last marathon!

(Jacket, pants, shoes).

Eight miles @ 8:28 pace!  It’s funny how my watch is now predicting faster times than it did right after the marathon after a few weeks of time off and now easy runs.  I swear my watch is playing mind games with me.

When you cannot find your gloves anywhere, socks work just as well, especially festive ones!

The two of us went to story time at the library.

Beck got his first library card, which was a big event.

I adore the traderjoes5itemsorless IG account, and we used two of her recipes yesterday—>  TJ’s squiggly noodles were the easiest thing in the world to make, and they had the perfect spice.

And the pesto chicken sandwich.  Again, so easy and so good.

It was a school project kind of an afternoon… We are all experts in Medieval castles and wolves now.

Beck entertained himself by playing bop-it for a good amount of time.

We had ice cream with Brooke’s grandma and grandpa on her other side.  I feel fortunate that we can still get together because they have always been extremely important to me, and I love how they treat all of my kids like they are so special, even though they aren’t everyone’s grandparents.

I had a goat cheese ice cream that was divine.

I was going through my notes from my marathon a few weeks ago, and I came across the only thing I didn’t love about the race that I forgot to mention.  Maybe I notice it more than others because it affects my asthma (and I forgot my inhalers), but there was a lot of smoking along the course that made portions a bit harder for me to breathe.  Has anyone else had a situation like this before?  It was such a small thing, but something I did notice!

What are you making for dinner tonight?

Sephora lovers—> If you had a gift card to get one free thing at Sephora, what would it be?

Using a training plan or running your own thing these days?

-It feels a little strange not to be following a training plan right now!

Hi Janae! Hope you’re still soaking in your results from Seville! I was wondering if you would be willing to share your peak or average weekly mileage from the training block and how that compares to past marathon builds. Have a great day!

Reply

ABSOLUTELY! I’ll put it in my next blog post if that works. Thanks friend, you too!

Hey JB: How many times a week do you. strngth train?

Reply

Hey M! My goal currently is to lift heavier at the gym 2 times a week and then try to get in some core/pilates/yoga a few times, too, whenever I can squeeze it in. I hope you have a beautiful day.

Dinner – TJs sweet potato gnocchi with ground turkey for protein, little marinara and cheese. Sephora – Sunday Reily Luna Sleeping oil – divine.

That sounds absolutely amazing. And that sleeping oil… you sold me with ‘divine.’ Thank you in advance. Have a fabulous day, Judi!

What’s going on with your eyelashes? They look amazing!!
First library card is a big deal! I remember getting mine!!
I am now to the point that not having a training plan/coach feels so wrong.
I love hearing that your ex’s parents are still so good to you and your kids. That speaks volumes of such people.

Well, thank you! They are as fake as can be haha… they are ProLash! I’m hooked. You remember getting yours, okay that is great. Yep, so wrong and so strange. It really is the best situation. It would have been too hard to lose them! Have a beautiful day!

Congratulations to Beck on getting his 1st library card! So fun.
And aww… I took love that your ex-inlaws are still sweet to all your kids. That’s so nice.
I definitely need to start following that IG account. We all loved the pasta dish you shared the other week. So easy and delicious.
I’m now following a training plan, and it is good. I like not having to think about what my workout is, or come up with something on my own. Just get up and go… Plus my running friend is getting ready for the LA marathon, and our mid week runs are sort of matching, so that makes it more fun. Heading out to meet her now 😊
Have a great day Janae

Thank you, Wendy! Yes, it really is the nicest thing to be able to get to spend time with them still. YAY for that pasta dish, I think I need it again this week haha. I’m with you, I love having the structure laid out for me. Excited for your friend and I hope you had the best run together today. Thanks friend, you too!

Good morning, Janae! I think I’m going to make the salsa verde enchiladas that you recommended the other day. I’ve kept the recipe open on my browser and it makes me hungry every time I see it, ha. My parents have given us dinner the past few nights so I’ve been lucky to just reheat (my mom does a ton of cooking before she visits my grandparents because she makes them meals to stock their freezer… I also luck out!).
I haven’t been wearing a lot of makeup lately, but I would get a good mascara if I had a gift card to Sephora. I like the Benefit brand a lot (and their eyebrow gel, too). Hope that means you received a Sephora card to spoil yourself!
The smoking in Europe can definitely be an adjustment compared to home! I can’t imagine having asthma and running a marathon with that around you (nor can I imagine smoking as I watch thousands of people do something so healthy, ha!).
Have a wonderful day!

I think I might have to make those tonight too! Let me know what you think of them. Ummm your mom sounds like the best. I JUST GOT THEIR EYEBROW GEL AND I AM OBSESSED. Hahah valid point on smoking while watching. Thank you friend, I hope you have an amazing day!

Congrats to Beck! As a librarian it makes my heart so happy to see young kids enjoy books, reading and the library. Every time you post pics of someone in your family reading or taking a trip to the library, I cheer :-)
Tonight’s dinner is pasta, chicken and sundried tomatoes.
Have a nice day!

I LOVE that you are a librarian, I wish you were ours:). You do so much for your community! I have those ingredients so I may have to copy you! Have a beautiful day, Annelies (prettiest name)!

Kopari lip gloss from Sephora.
For dinner buffalo chicken panini’s.

I haven’t tried that lip gloss, I am most definitely grabbing some next time I am there. And those panini’s sound fabulous. Happy Wednesday, Erica!

We don’t have a Trade Joes anywhere near us and I’m sad about it because everyone rants and raves about their food and cheap wine!

Up till now I’ve never followed a training plan. I’ve just tried to vary my workouts, get in some speed an an occassional long run. That’s worked for the occasional 5K and 10K I run. Last week I signed up for a half-marathon and since it’s my first in decades I am finally following (somewhat) a training plan. It’s nice to have something to guide me and help me decide who to build my workouts and how far out to schedule my longest runs.

Oh how I wish I could send you TJs groceries each week! I hope eventually you get one closeish. Half-marathon… oh this is so exciting! Which one and when is it?! I want to be updated on your training for this over the weeks. Have a wonderful day, KJ!

Oh man, smoking at a marathon? What were they thinking?? I would definitely notice that – it impacts my asthmatic lungs too – I am glad I have never seen too much of that at races in the states.
Congrats to Beck on that special new card – now he has access to a lifetime of free books!
Dinner – I am working a 1/2 day from home today, so can make real dinner, yay! I think I am doing potato-corn chowder, and hopefully some baby-friendly banana cookies (just oats, bananas, and cinnamon). Maybe we’ll use some of our Costco bread on the side? Glad you like that stuff too!
I made up my own little training plan to get me back on the running path… so far, I think I have been a little optimistic for myself, but I like checking off the days that I can accomplish & partially checking the ones I do not quite hit 100%. It helps me see where I’m succeeding even when I fail to get out a day here & there.
Have a great Wednesday!

I know! Smoking felt much more common there so I think some spectators just felt like it was normal… it was so hard to breathe! He has been carrying around that card everywhere since he got it haha. Thanks Katie! I fully support your potato-corn chowder and sourdough bread, that sounds so good right now I wish I had that for breakfast. I love your training plan right now, it is exactly what you need. I hope you have a beautiful day!

Just coming here to say that what you wrote about Brookes grandparents is so sweet! I’m really glad you guys still get together and that they are good to all your kids.

I definitely noticed the smoking when we were in Spain last summer. It was everywhere! So I’m not surprised that people would smoke while watching a marathon…

And tonight we’re having egg sandwhiches, as it’s my daughter’s birthday. For 5 years, she requested egg sandwhiches for her birthday dinner. Now that she’s in boarding school, I will still make egg sandwhiches for her birthday, even though she will not have them with us.

Tonight, we are having Cheesy Chicken and Spinach Bake made with Greek Yogurt! I had some over the weekend and had to google how to make it. Very Good.
Trust me, as grandparents to a blended family, ALL of them are our babes!!

People definitely smoke more in Europe! That would bother me too!

Dinner tonight is at my sister’s and we’re having lasagna to celebrate my oldest turning 20 on Friday!

I am on week 14 of Kim’s (@trackclubbabe) 18 week BQ plan. I’m running Mt. Charleston in Vegas in April with some girlfriend’s.

Hi! I actually just started using a running coach last month which is a big splurge for me but it is nice not to have to think about what to do everyday. I am coming back from an injury so I wanted to be as smart as possible adding miles to my workouts and specific strength training exercises. Can you do a post that explains when you decide to use a run coach and when you decide to do your own thing?

Reply

When I lived in Sevilla, I remember people smoking while riding their bicycles to the gym. Ha! Now I so seldomly see people smoking here in Seattle that it’s almost startling when I do. So thankful smoking culture is so nonexistent here. I wonder if things will change in Europe at some point too?

I do like following a plan, but at times life is just so random that you sometimes have to improvise…I keep trying to attempt that 75 day hard thing….but, well, then life….
