I cannot believe I’m saying this.

(top, vest, shoes (currently 24% off), shorts, headband)

That was a good one. And I learned something new about running…

But first, am I the only one who can only take gels when I am moving (jogging or running)? I’ve tried to take them as I’m driving to a workout, but I cannot get them down without gagging if I’m not moving.

We were thankful for the public restroom where we could grab a drink from the sink and warm our toes for a minute. The Vaporflys are not a winter running shoe.

There is a trail in our area that everyone in our running group knows I hate.  I get teased because of how much I dislike it.  I always thought it was boring (so flat), and let’s be honest, it was the trail I ran on often after my divorce, and I probably cried a million tears on that trail for the first year or two after I moved back to Utah.  BUT I have a flat marathon coming up, so my coach told us to do the workout there…

I loved it.  Like so much that I can’t wait to do another workout there and then another one.  The flat stretches were so fun.  I could lock into a pace and hold it without thinking much.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but my least favorite running trail may now be my favorite?!

Here’s the prescribed workout:

Here were my paces for the workout:

I did not think I could hit the paces on flat, so I was thrilled to feel pretty strong overall until those final 400s ate me alive.

Here’s a random winter running tip that my new skin lady reminded me of: Wash your running headbands/earbands after each use! They can cause breakouts if you don’t!

I can handle winter if we get a few park days still sprinkled in.

And then some fun Christmas nails. Beck was thrilled to get to watch Toy Story next to me.

Pasta Fagioli was a fan favorite for dinner.

And we finished up with the TJ’s gingerbread houses.

Andrew and I were shocked how much attention Beck paid to every detail.

Any skin tips for runners?

Can you take gels when you aren’t running?

Does it feel like winter where you live?

Do you decorate gingerbread houses?  Do you make them from scratch or buy them?

No, i doubt I could take a gel if I’m not running. They taste delicious on the run but I’m sure would be repulsive if I were just sitting in the car!
I used to make TWO gingerbread houses from scratch every year, one for each kid. Finally last year (when my kids were 14 and 20) I asked if we could skip it… and they said yes. PHEW. I’m not sorry to cross that off my to-do list.
BTW my son’s 21st birthday is tomorrow… I know he shares a birthday with someone very special ; )

Right?! It’s so funny how much easier they are to eat while moving. Two. You are my hero. Hahah I’m glad you get a break from that now. Happiest birthday to your son tomorrow. Amazing people were born on the 8th. Enjoy celebrating!

I have zero patience for decorating gingerbread houses and even cookies. Ask me to make a 3 hour lasagna, I’m in!
I love that you are rewriting the narrative of that trail!
I’m going to put out into the universe that Maurten should sponsor you.

Three hour lasagna… can I please come over for that. That sounds heavenly right now. Please continue to put that in the universe for me. I do get sent a good amount but I go through them too fast to keep up haha. Hope your day is a beautiful one, Molly!

Beck’s gingerbread house looks awesome! I buy my daughter a gingerbread house to decorate every year but it has to be a fully assembled one. I made the mistake of buying one you put together yourself one year and I learned that I do not have the patience for that. I wish we had Trader Joes close cuz that kit is super cute.

I love you gave the trail another chance and are creating positive memories on it. Its not fully winter in central Illinois yet. We get a few cold days and had some snow but then its back up to 50 degrees here for a few days. But I am not complaining.

Hahah I do not have the patience for things like this either. I need to send you one of these kids. ENJOY those temps for us, I think we have another storm coming in. Thanks Corrinne, hope you are having a great day!

Awesome job on your gingerbread house Beck! So fun.
I can’t take gels period! Although, I should try again when I start my next training block.
We just had a couple of days of Santa Ana wind conditions (no wind), so it’s been quite warm. So no, the weather doesn’t feel like winter at all. But with our neighborhood Christmas lights, it definitely feels like the holidays. Thank goodness!
That looks like a fun workout. And way to go on hitting those fast paces. Seville will be so fun for you.
3 more days of this holiday toy and food drive, then I can sleep for a week, ha ha! It is going really well though.
Have a great Thursday Janae.

Thanks, Wendy! I mean, Christmas decorations everywhere without the freezing temperatures sounds perfect. Three more days. You can do this. You are helping so many people. You too!

My two favorite long run locations are the flattest places ever – I wish I could run them more often. But I also love some incredibly hilly routes. I think the long, flat routes are peacefully predictable! Unless it’s a flat treadmill.
It is not that wintery here yet, in MN. The snow won’t stick around more than a day because the temps keep randomly jumping up to the 40’s. Okay for now, but I am hoping for snow by Christmas!
I had a gingerbread Crumbl cookie at work yesterday, and now I am inspired to do all things gingerbread-y this weekend. I will bake little gingerbread cookies, but not for houses because the kits always have such cute decorations all ready to use. Sometimes convenience wins!

Really! Okay, so there is something just magical about these long flat stretches. Predictable. That is exactly it! Oh, I hope that you guys get some snow for Christmas. Now I need to stop at Crumbl today. Thanks Katie, have a beautiful day!

We got about 6 inches of snow yesterday and last night so that definitely adds to the winter feel (my arms and back noticed it was the first real shoveling, hah!). We’ve had lows in the teens and twenties the last couple weeks, but this being CA, we’re supposed to be back up to 50’s this weekend. Like park days, those brief periods of warmth are a huge respite! No gingerbread houses, but I did make iced oatmeal gingerbread cookies (from Sally’s Baking Addiction) this past weekend to bring to friends and they may be my new favorite holiday cookie!

Oh Shoveling is quite the strength training (and cardio ha) workout! It really is amazing how much easier winter feels to me when we get a day or two sprinkled in with sunshine. Enjoy this weekend! Oh I bet those cookies turned out so good. Off to find the recipe. Hope your day is a beautiful one, Michelle!

The timing for your question is hilarious because just yesterday I was researching making gingerbread houses from scratch. I don’t have kids so it would be just for me, haha. But it is a lot of work, so we’ll see if I actually can commit!

Hahah I read your mind! If you make one from scratch, I’m going to need pictures!

Janae, I have the exact nail colors going on right now. :) Yay!! Love twinning with you. Also, you’re killing it, like always. I’m a wimp when it comes to running outside in the cold but I’ve been thinking about signing up for a marathon next year so I’d probably have to start training during the winter. We will see!!
