GIFT GUIDE FOR RUNNERS AND WOMEN + A Bit More Information on the smoothies…

(Shorts ((similar)), top, shoes)

We did shortish speed workouts on M, W, and F last week, and so we just needed a nice and easy pace long run for Saturday’s 16 miles.

After Thanksgiving, training is going to start officially, and I think we will try out Tuesdays for our speed day and Fridays for our long run day… Freeing up the weekend a bit more.

Lauren said this one tastes like a Dole Whip if you want a new gel to try.

Still no ice; it’s a miracle.

I’ve gotten a few questions about whether or not the smoothies I am making include typos (1/2 cup CHIA?!?)… nope, no typos.  You can get every detail about the smoothies HERE.  All of the explanations are on Dr. Brooke Goldner’s website.  She has helped thousands of people heal (she was able to heal her lupus with this) from autoimmune diseases and improve people’s health and energy.  I don’t have an autoimmune disease, I’m ‘hyper-nourishing’ my cells with these smoothies, and I seriously don’t know how to express the differences I have experienced personally adequately.   We are going out of town this week, and you better believe I’m packing my blender with me, ha.  Watch her full video to learn how to make the smoothies perfectly.  I feel 25 again in terms of energy.

The girls are drinking a variation of them now, too (with less chia and power greens and a lot of fruit).

PS My Vitamix blender is $180 off on Amazon today!

We went to Color Me Mine, a.k .a. the place my girls want to move to.

Brooke’s indoor soccer game went well:

And I ate the best brussels of my life; I ordered another plate to take home, ha.

I swear Brooke was wearing this jumper last week!

My incredible niece just hit a half-marathon PR of 1:42.  I have to brag about her; she does it all on top of her running.  If I was 1/1000th as motivated as she is at her age…

Let’s jump into gift ideas for yourself (haha), runners, and women in your life!  Basically, this is just a list of a few of my favorite things.

This list is wonderful! Thank you! Just wondering which watch you use and what you would recommend. I currently have a Garmin Forerunner 935 which I love but am thinking of upgrading to one with music storage? I’m afraid I won’t love the new one as much as my trusty 935 – lol. Happy Thanksgiving!

I think that is a fabulous plan… Emily, I am in love with my garmin. I love every aspect of it (except for the race predictor function ha). The music is so easy to use too; I was very surprised by this! Here is the link, I hope you love it too. Hope your day is a great one!

I hate shopping which saves me money. But then I come to your blog and you’ve done all the research for me. I have a list of Black Friday items to buy and you have a link for each item. Thanks, friend! Bank account isn’t as grateful.
My next smoothie question, what vessel can hold all that liquid?
And your niece is amazing!! 1:42 is blazing fast!
My favorite gift to give to family is a formal dinner at our house. We provide the entire meal (cheese board, dinner, dessert, selected wine) which ends up being an Alison Roman dinner party. Surprise surprise. I love giving experiences as gifts.

I take this portion of my job very seriously, only the best of the best regardless of your bank accounts feelings towards me hahah. RIGHT? Usually, I fill up my Vitamix tumbler that came with my vitamix and then my 44 ounce stanley and stick that one in the fridge… I refill through the day. It really is SO much, but I feel 25 again, so it’s worth it. I need my dad to write about the changes it has made in his life… it’s incredible. Right?! There is no way I could have ran a half marathon at her age, let alone that pace. I love that idea. I want to do that for my family. Thanks Molly, happy Monday!

Can you relink the bra with pockets? It just takes me to the adidas site and I don’t know what bra it is. Thank you!

I had the same problem!

Wow that is A LOT of greens! I’ll have to get to Costco for the big bag :)

Great gift lists! You always have great suggestions.
We do most of our shopping online, but I do like to pick up stocking stuffers in person. I avoid the mall like the plague this time of year, ha ha.
This week is going to be a tad crazy, so I am hoping to squeeze in a few runs, but not putting pressure on myself to get a run in every day. I am going to enjoy this holiday week with family and feel really grateful.
Have a great Monday!

Online shopping has made my life way too easy;). I’m with you on the stocking stuffers though. SAMEEEEEE but I swear this is when my kids want to go there the most. I hope you have the best week with your family and continue to take the pressure off of yourself. You do so much and you need rest too. Thanks Wendy, you too!

Thank you for this list….and for the smoothie recommendation. You inspired me! I decided to start making them and told my husband that he is coming along for the ride haha. Today is only day 3 but I’m making them at night amd putting them in smoothie cups so there are no excuses in the AM 😉
I’ve done them a little differently though: power greens, unsweetened acai packet, coconut water or almond milk, chia seeds, a couple dates, frozen mango and frozen blueberries. Yesterday I also threw in a teaspoon of cacao nibs. Maybe I’ll get some flaxseeds to throw in there too. I think I got the ratio right, more greens than fruit. I have a Ninja blender and that thing pulverizes everything in seconds!

Thank you for the inspiration!

Have a great week, Janae- and Happy Thanksgiving 😊

Annemarie, I am so happy you and your husband are doing this… he will be so happy that you have forced him for the ride too haha (Andrew is:). Great idea to make them the night before. Ummm yours sound great. Andrew adds cacao nibs to his too. Yes, 75% greens and 25% fruit:). Thanks friend, you too. I’m grateful for your friendship!

am following….right now, low energy, my get up and go has gone somewhere…I’m hoping this is a pre Christmas thing, and magically when the new year begins I’ll be motivated again…?…..maybe it’s the pressure of Christmas shopping?…
but, yeah, a 1:42 marathon…..awesome

I hope you get some energy asap. I am so sorry, Warren! Get some rest today!

Hi!
Do you use Regular chia seeds or ground?
Thanks!

Reply

Hey! I just use regular and let my blender grind it! But I’m sure buying them ground already is even better!

Reply

I was looking at your link for Dr. Goldner and the power greens smoothie. She uses whole flaxseeds not chia seeds. Ive been doing the smoothie about half of the ingredients for now but wondering if I should switch to flaxseeds.
Thanks for your gift ideas! I’ll be using them for me!!

Hey! At minute 3:30 of the video she says flax or chia… I’m not the biggest fan of the way flax tastes. My sister, parents and I all use the chia too. But I would be interested to know if there are any differences or if I should do half and half?! Thanks Terri, have the best day!

Hi Janae, love your blog and I’m a long time follower. I feel disappointed to see you are sharing such information about the smoothies. I am so pleased it is making you feel so much better, and your whole family is reaping the benefits (which I’m sure there are plenty of when added so much more nutrient rich foods to your diet) but there is some information on that website that is false and advertising that a smoothie can “heal” ailments such as auto immune conditions can be very misleading, especially for vulnerable people such as those suffering from these illness. Please be cautious when sharing such information.

Reply

There is no “cure” for lupus. I agree with the other commenter, it’s harmful to share info like this without qualification. It also places undue blame or responsibility on the patient to “heal themselves” and if they can’t or won’t “do what it takes” (eg, many people couldn’t possibly afford to drink this every day), well they must not be trying hard enough. And that’s just not something anyone dealing with a chronic or deadly illness should ever feel.

I do love reading your blog and hope you’ll reconsider leaving this in the post.

so, i watched the smoothie making video. I do have IBS so maybe I need to look into making these. You drink the 64 oz ones she made in her blender? how long does it take you to drink that much? I can’t imagine that much!

Reply

I would talk to your doctor. I was specifically told not to drink a smoothie like this as it can make symptoms worse.

Thank you so much for your gift guide! I love looking at all your favorite items these days! -Sincerely, lover of running that also loves to follow your adventures. :)

Great list! Thank you! What is the name of the sports bra with pockets that you recommend? When I click on the link it just takes me to the Adidas website. Thank you!
