Thank you + tangents

8 miles @ 8:29 average for the morning.

Thank you so much for your sweet words, thoughts and prayers. We spent as much time as possible with Mer yesterday and will do the same today. Relationships are everything. During my entire life with Mer, I always left being with her feeling better than I came. Never has there been a more witty woman who makes you feel as loved as she does. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat at Kneader’s again without tears.

The last few years, grilled cheese (from Kneaders’s) has been her favorite food, so I made them for the kids and me the other night to eat while we talked about her.

Beck came with me for the day at Mer’s.

He did so well there ✌🏻

I have a bunch of pictures from my phone so I’ll just share those with you today:)

*This kindergarten adjustment has been rough on her.

*And now we are a hiking family again… how did I miss a summer of hiking together? The leaves pulled us out, and now we can’t get enough.

*We should be doing this year-round.

*And these pumpkin cookies were absolutely amazing.

*Beck agreed.

*Veggies and shrimp with these noodles from Trader Joe’s and this sauce = the easiest and most delicious meal.

*My friend’s Hoka hiking boots… yep, I need them.

*My shopping cart after Mer’s house. My feelings needed sugar and carbs.

*Thank you for all of the love for my mom too. She has seen/helped Mer every day (besides any trips she went on) for the last 18 years (when Mer moved here). My mom is incredible.

I would love to hear a tangent from you today!

Oh Janae,

I didn’t comment yesterday because it felt so fresh. My grandmother died last month at the age of 99. We got to spend nearly three weeks with her and my parents at the beach right before she died, and the time was everything: time with the great grandkids, time telling stories, time playing games, even time getting to know our puppy, whom she adored. It was holy time. You are doing such a good job, and you and your family are in my prayers.

Thank you, Margie. I am so sorry about the loss of your grandmother. Thank goodness for that time you all had with her before she passed. Holy time. That is how I feel about this week. We are with her as she is somewhere in the middle of two worlds. Thank you for sharing and I hope you are feeling comforted.

Yay for pumpkin season! I made pumpkin bread yesterday, but now I want to try those cookies. Also need to start baking apple things too!

Continuing to send thoughts for you and your family.

I’m sure Mer loves being surrounding by her family in these moments.
Enjoy getting all the fresh mountain air during this heavy time in life.
Tangent: I woke up in Madison, WI Sunday morning for my husband’s century ride. I needed to get in six miles of running first. I decided to just run out and back 6 miles from the hotel since it was still pitch black. I quickly found myself in the countryside with just me and my headlamp. At mile 2 I noticed a sign for a “divided highway.” Time to turn around. Before I could turn around I was blinded with intense lights that suddenly flashed on. Apparently, I found the airport. Definitely time to turn around.

Thank you, Molly. They told us that hearing is one of the last things to go so I am grateful we can talk to her during this time.
His century ride, that is amazing. OH MY GOODNESS, yep, that was time to turn around! Always fun running in new areas;)

I am so sorry that this time has come for Mer. My sweet grandma passed away Dec 1. It was one of the worst days of my life and is still so hard. She was definitely the center of our family’s universe, her house our gathering spot and there is such a void without her here. All the virtual love to your family.

Hiking! Yes! Especially this time of year. I am so happy I get to do that with my sisters in Colorado once a year.
I got home last night feeling so rejuvenated and motivated. And also ready to start baking all of the pumpkin things.
Keep holding each other tight these days.

Prayers for Mer and your whole family. How wonderful and blessed you all are to have and care for each other so well.

Attempting a run this morning on a bum hip – hopefully that goes well.

MMmmmmm, I love pumpkin. I highly recommend pumpkin bread with white chocolate chips thrown in plus a tablespoon of molasses.

Thank you so much, Tracy! I hope your run went okay and that your hip was happy. I WILL be trying that. Thanks friend, have a beautiful day!

Thinking of you! I’m on borrowed time now with my granny, who turns 97 years young on Friday. I know it’s trite, but so glad you have so many memories to treasure. And you seem to live her legacy by loving your family and friends so well. Hugs to you and your fam, especially your sweet mama.

Praying for you Janae. My Nan passed away last august and it was so hard. I was so grateful for the time we had with her and look back on it really fondly but at the time it was so hard. But so grateful for her long, blessed life. Mer had the most wonderful life and the most loving family. Praying for peace for you. Xx
