All It Takes, Over It & Heat Training.

I started off my morning with two King’s Hawaiian rolls with jam and a naked juice before my run.  With this higher mileage I feel like I need some QUICK energy right after I wake up to feel good to go in the mornings.  I am sure some caffeine would help but I really only want to use caffeine before big races/workouts so that my body doesn’t just become used to it and not feel the benefits from it anymore.   After drinking one of these Naked juices from Costco I feel awake really fast and ready to run.  They have been great in the mornings lately.

I met up with Emilee and Hilary for 12 miles around town.  This week my goal is 75ish (maybe even 80 miles if I am feeling good) before we drop our mileage back down next week with another race on 8/17.  We have one really hard workout and one medium hard workout this week so if those take it out of me, I will listen closely and be more than happy with backing down if I need to.

PS getting back into the school routine is going to be interesting.  The girls have been sleeping in until at least 8:30 each morning which is fabulous with my running because I’m always home before they wake up but too late for school!

Same splash pad as Saturday but I was on the lookout the whole time for yellow jackets (on Saturday I was stung by one and the area on my leg is still sore and swollen?!?).

IMG 2056

After the splash pad we went to the grocery store to pick up some things to make homemade ice cream.  Brooke has been on a little cooking kick lately and yesterday I taught her how to look over a recipe and pick out the things we needed at the store.

Random story of the day—> The check out line was really long and while we were in line Skye started throwing a fit (it was nap time and we were all hungry) and as I was walking out I was just feeling a bit defeated … Just then an old man walked up behind me and said, ‘you are doing a great job mom.’  It completely changed my whole attitude afterwards, made me cry tears of relief and his 7 words was all it took to brighten the rest of my day.

Words are so powerful.

IMG 2059

My brother gave us this ice cream maker and this ice cream dessert book for our wedding and it is awesome!

IMG 2060

We made the sweet cream recipe and added some of our cookie dough that we keep in the freezer. —> You never know when you need to throw some cookies in the oven so we like to be prepared.

IMG 2067

These two got in some soccer practicing in the backyard.  Brooke and Knox start their fall seasons soon!

IMG 2066 2

I got in a double for the day because Andrew had the day off which makes it easier to get out again.  The girls joined us and usually I run with Andrew and Skye with Brooke a little bit ahead but I ran next to Brooke for the second half of the run because we saw a huge snake… and it freaked us all out.

PS for lunch yesterday I made pancakes, eggs and hash browns (along with ice cream after) and my stomach felt awesome during this run.  I think when I have veggies at lunch my stomach is not okay with a double run.

IMG 2087

It was 95 degrees out but since we were next to the river and the clouds were out, it didn’t feel quite that hot but it’s still good for me to get in a few hot runs because some years the St. George Marathon is REALLY hot!

IMG 2092

We went over to hang out with my grandma for a bit.

IMG 2097

And then I made rice bowls with tortillas, sautéed yellow peppers, guac and rotisserie chicken with some taco seasoning on it.

IMG 2105 2

Finished off by the best chips on the planet and some more of Brooke’s ice cream that she made.

IMG 2106

I think Beretta is over having Skye wake her up from her naps.

Ever ran a marathon or any race when it was really hot?  How did you deal with it?!

Best chip on the planet in your opinion?

What a wonderful guy to tell you you’re doing a great job! Doesn’t everyone need to hear that sometimes (especially when a situation is testing our limits)?

Yes!!!! It just reminded me how much more I can do with my words to people I come across each day because he sure helped me out. Have a fabulous day Corey!

You ARE doing a great job, Janae! I was tired just reading about your day. And not only did you DO all of those things yesterday, THEN you wrote about them. Girl, you’re incredible. Keep up the great work.

You are just the nicest ever. Thank you Maria. It’s amazing how much kind words do for a person.. thank you. Hope your Tuesday is a fabulous one!

Wow, what that man said is so wonderful. We need more uplifters and less critics.

After the recent shootings my friend was interviewed by the local news asking “do you feel safe here?” Her response was amazing–> It’s really easy to live in fear given heavy headlines everywhere but that’s only a smidge of this big beautiful and fun world. there will always be evil and there will always be righteousness and love to overcome that. We have a responsibility to act on that.” Ugh, I just love what she said and it goes along with what that man did for you.

Question for you–>how do you decide on weekly mileage since you have a coach? I know your coach plans your weeks and workouts but then a few times you’ve said you’re hoping to get x mileage this wk, but may go for more, so how does that work with your coach? I have a coach and I’m always weary to do more than she plans for me but sometimes I feel good and want to do a few more!

Thanks Janae and have a wonderful Tuesday!

Thank you for sharing what your friend said on the news. That brought me a lot of peace because I have been really upset the last few days. WE can continue to act on the love and I love that. Thanks Eleanor. I definitely haven’t explained that very well. So he has given us about a 10 mile range for the week (ie this week 75-85) and told us to really pay close attention to what our body is telling us. So my goal is 75 (the low range of what he said ha) and if I feel good then I’ll hit 80:) . I definitely won’t go over what he says because I know he knows the bigger picture much better than I do for my training. Trust your coach… it will pay off big time. Thanks and you too!

Those are my favorite chips EVER!!! I go through them so fast during marathon training. :)

Right?! They are so so addicting. PS do I get to see you next month?!?

Love what that man said! Some people are so wise and know just what to say. A couple days ago I was walking with my son, on my crutches, wearing my boot (you know, because I broke my foot), and a lady said, ‘wow, you just walked up that hill on crutches!? You’re a rockstar!’ I really appreciated that. And last week, my first day out in 5 days, a younger guy in a coffee shop said ‘I hope your leg gets better soon’. So simple, yet so uplifting.
Have a great day Janae, and you ARE doing a great job!!

Wendy, I am still so mad about that steep downhill where this happened to your foot. YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR. I am amazed by you and so happy those two people took time to tell you what they were thinking. It really is amazing how powerful our words are and how much good they can bring. Thank you Wendy for saying that to me, it means A LOT. Rest up and I hope that your foot heals back better/stronger than ever!

I haven’t ran a super hot race yet, but this is the first summer I’ve ran through the heat the entire time without quitting in July, and I’, surprised by how much I’ve actually gotten used to the heat! I only run at night when my husband gets home from work, so it’s high 90s low 100s at that point, but I’m shocked I’ve gotten used to it!

PAIGE… congrats on rocking your first summer of running through the whole summer. I’m going to think of you out there getting in runs in those crazy conditions when I’m complaining to myself when it’s 80 in the morning. I hope you have a really great day!

My favorite chips are definitely all dressed, with sour cream and onion a close second.

I must find these all dressed chips asap… I need! Have a wonderful day Fiona!

What a sweet sweet man! I love it when someone takes an extra 30 seconds to be kind :) I was working with an amazing doctor last week (who works in palliative care) and I don’t know if it exactly brightened my day right away, but it has really stuck with me and is giving me some major motivation. She basically said “if you have the time and the means to do something that you have always wanted to do – just go do it.” She has seen so many people just wait and wait for the “perfect time” and then receive an incurable diagnosis and loose the ability to make that choice. Live for the present – do what you are passionate about. This is kinda a hard thing for me right now, but I was grateful that she felt inspired to share that with me :)

Also BEST chips: Not sure if you have “Ms. Vickie’s” brand chips in the US, but the Salt & Vinegar are UNBEATABLE. Jalapeno are a close second!

Hope you have a great Tuesday!

I absolutely love what she said to you. I feel like when things like that happen it is a way God speaks to us (through others) and answers questions for us. What she said to you gave me goosebumps, thank you for sharing that with me. I must try Ms. Vickie’s Salt & Vinegar… even if I have to order them online:) . Thanks Rachel for taking the time to share with me this, it’s just what I needed to hear too!

Well that man’s comment made me tear up!! How thoughtful of him to actually tel you that!

RIGHT?!?! People are the best. 7 words changed my day. I hope you have a wonderful day Adrienne and thanks for your comment!

Oh man when I did long distance triathlon worlds in 2017 (3k swim-120k bike-30k run), the race was in Penticton, British Columbia in August, which is quite hot. I think it was 92F by the time I hit the run course BUT I had trained in hotter and more humid temperatures all summer so I knew how to manage it. Couple of things that helped:
-I ate SO MUCH SALT the day before. SO MUCH.
-I mixed my bottles with my saltier hydration mix so that I was getting even more salt in during the race. At the aid stations on the last loop of the bike (when it was already getting warm) I grabbed a bottle of plain water to squirt on my head and cool off a little.
-Once I was on the run, I carried a water bottle with my saltier hydration mix PLUS a zip lock baggie of salt chews (they absorb faster). The aid stations had ice, and I carried yet another baggie full of ice in my hand because holding something cold makes you feel colder. I would also put some ice in my bra and shorts if I was feeling especially warm.

I can’t imagine St George Marathon will be that hot, but I hope they have ice available if it is. That can help a lot.

Okay, I can’t even imagine STARTING your run of a long distance triathlon at 92 degrees… I would have melted. Of course you were prepared (you train so smart)… thank you for sharing what you did, they are so so helpful! Luckily St. George always has ice bags in the last few miles and it is life changing to stuff it down your bra ha. I hope you have a really great day Victoria!

I sat on two hornets last summer, and both stung me. I was so swollen for a little over a week. I ended up taking some benadryl to try to get it to go down and using lots of hydro cortisone as it was oddly itchy. So if you are still swollen in a day or two, I’d give that a try!

I used to live on the border of Oklahoma and Kansas, and one summer I ran a race while it was 106 degrees. Luckily it was only a 5K, not sure I could have done more than that. It was sooo awful. Especially because I’m originally from the northern states of Minnesota and North Dakota. I don’t do heat…

TWO HORNETS!! Oh that is terrible! Hydrocortisone has been saving me and I think I might need some benadryl soon. I definitely didn’t know these little things were so painful!
106 degrees?! I cannot even imagine!

Oh Tostitos are a big deal here in Mexico, they are the best, we prepare them with so many toppings hahaha have a wonderful day!

Now you have me craving some of these chips with all of the toppings! Thanks Zinia, YOU TOO!

You are a great mom, Janae! Sometimes, God knows just the encouragement we need and He uses a kind stranger to provide it for us.

Are Brooke and Knox the same age? Your kids are adorable!! Brooke looks a lot tinier standing next to Andrew than in the other pictures I’ve seen of her, LOL!

I totally agree… God uses the people around us to communicate to us:) . Thanks Laura! Brooke and Knox are about 6 weeks apart but they are in different grades (the school cut off is right between there bdays)! I think it is because I was standing up on the stairs taking the picture! Have a fabulous day Laura and thanks so much:)

I LOVE those chips SO much! I only purchase them for parties/company because I can’t stop eating them. Plus I am the only person in my house who likes them which makes it extra dangerous. HOW can my guys not like them? CRAZY persons!

Great job on your double!

How in the world are you the only person at your house that likes them!? You need to get their tastebuds checked out! Thanks Bridgette and I hope you have a great day!

I don’t blame you one bit for being wary of bees now. I got stung almost 2 weeks ago when I was on a bike ride, bent over the bars. The bee flew in my shirt and stung me just above my jog bra. It’s still a bit swollen and crazy itchy, maybe the worst part is that I’m walking around scratching at my chest ;) Right now I’m all about Terra taro chips! And that’s great for that man to send you kind words. Toddlers teach us so much humility, don’t they? It’s a good thing they’re cute!

OH NOOOOOO He flew in your shirt and stung you?! Okay… I cannot complain now! That must have been so painful and I hope that it gets feeling better asap and hydrocortisone cream is helping me out with the itch big time. Seriously, Skye has been teaching me lessons right and left and humility is one of them:) . Thanks Michelle and I hope you are having a great day!

It always brightens my day when someone takes the time to say something kind. I need to work on doing that more myself but I always worry that I will be intruding on someone’s space. But, I always like it so I need to just get over my own anxiety!

Random q, where is that cilantro lime crema from?? Looks amazing! Currently pregnant with my 3rd and must eat all things taco right now!

GO TO COSTCO RIGHT NOW… it is SO good and you need to top everything with it! That is exactly what I’ve been thinking about… it made such a big difference in my day and I need to do that for other people. I hope you are feeling well and getting some rest! Keep in touch Christina!

Best chips on the planet = sunchips!

My son is only 15 months but he is OBSESSED with throwing balls. Future sports player maybe??

That was so sweet what that man said to you. I’ll have to remember to keep that compliment in the back of my mind for the next time I see a fellow mom having a hard day.

Hope your day is going well!

Costco now has Cauliflower chips that I am OBSESSED with!! Go get them next time you are there!!
And the best thing someone has said to me was “You really make this office”- I work for a Chiro:-)

I love the Hint of Lime Tostitos too, but do you think they taste a little like Fruit Loops?? Maybe it’s just me :)

I have done lots of halfs in the heat of summer in Tennessee……..drink lots of water and dump it on your head, too…….those are my survival tricks!

Best chip is hint of jalapeno, I think!
