Sentence per Picture + 5 Friday Favorites!

My first race back is next month so I’m repeating positive vibes/negative splits (tank from here) over and over again:)

Andrew was at the hospital doing a shift so after I got the big kids off to school, I put in my first run for the month of March!

Skye hung out with my mom and I hit up the trail that I used to run daily back when I lived at my parents’ house a few years ago.

How cool is it that they added this for bikers on the trail… everything you need to get your bike going again when you have a problem!

IMG 1833

Went to Target for eggs and left with baby clothes for Skye (Knox prefers riding on the bottom of the cart when we go to Target).

IMG 1847

I should have cleaned during Skye’s nap but instead I decided to eat chocolate that my bff that is living in Switzerland brought me and read for a few minutes instead.

Flashback Friday to the above mentioned friend when I visited her while she was living in Thailand.

And then they found me hiding in my room (I kid, kind of;) and joined me which was actually really nice to get some time with just them.

Their current favorite book.  I think that is because they dream of a day when I say yes to everything.

She is quite a happy girl after she has a good meal—>  I totally understand and can relate to her on this issue.

IMG 1872

Brinner… the only way I can currently get them to eat spinach is in their eggs (or in a smoothie) so those were on the side of their dog pancakes.

IMG 1873

And I’m going to have to say goodbye now because Skye is over the fact that she is not in my arms (ps I didn’t realize my pants were on inside out until I uploaded this picture ha).

And now for a few Friday Favorites!!!

1.  I just started this book and I am loving it so far!  Just what I needed and it is a good read.

2.  My favorite straightener just died (I was pretty upset about it to be honest)… I didn’t want to spend $100 on a new one so I found this one for $40 on Amazon with awesome reviews so I tried it.  Turns out I love it too and it does a great job.  It has helped me get over how upset I was about my last straightener!

3.  It is now Andrew’s birth month which I am pretty excited about.  I have some great things planned and he hasn’t even guessed yet muhahah.  He is turning 30 this year so it is a big deal…  His birthday is also on Pi Day but it’s a shame he isn’t a huge fan of pie.

4.  This one is a really strange one but it happened during my run yesterday so I thought I would share.  I LOVE the smell of a new home being built… like when it is getting framed and there is a ton of wood out.  I ran by a few homes being built yesterday and they smelled so good.  I’m weird but I just love this smell.

5.  I just started listening to the podcast Dirty John.  If you are a fan of podcasts like Serial and Up and Vanished it is that same type of podcast.  It is creepy and beyond crazy but it makes the time fly by on a run when I am listening to it.

Oh, and a Friday Favorite bonus..  Brooke had a play at school this week and it was the best.

We have 2 parties on Sunday, a birthday party for a great friend and a St. Patrick’s Day party. (our local parade is early so as to not compete with the one in Manhattan).

My husband is older by 6 months.

Work-wise I like to get stuff done in the morning. Workout-wise I am at my best 2 – 5 pm.

My husband and I both turn 30 this year. I’m a little sad to be saying goodbye to my 20s. I’m trying to convince him that we need to do something big this year for our 30s

I love the smell of wood when it’s just been cut! I also like the scent of clean laundry, fresh cut grass and the smell of the lake and woods…reminds me of summer camp when I was a kid.
I hope this is a weekend is a calm one. I’ve got a busy March planned and I want to get some stuff done at home this week.
H is almost 4 years older than me.
I’m most productive in the morning, but as long as I keep moving and don’t sit down to watch TV or look at the iPad I stay busy because I always have stuff I want to finish, or clean or organize hahaha

Reply

Oh I love all of those smells too… so good! I hope that you get in a lot of relaxation before your crazy month starts. I’m the same way haha. Have a beautiful day Elizabeth!

We just closed on a house purchase last week. You know what sealed the deal on putting in an offer????? The smell of wood the instant we walked into the garage. This wasn’t new construction but it was a complete remodel. Newest I’ll ever get in my lifetime. Every home we viewed prior had a thousand strong smells and I left almost sick to my stomach. We walked into this garage and smelled wood and I looked at my husband and mouthed, “this is it!!!!”

My Friday favorite is that I’m finally on spring break!! This semester is out to kill me so a week off is much needed.
And this weekend – tomorrow, actually – my brother is getting married and I’m making his wedding cake and I don’t think I’m going to register just how crazy it all is until it’s over.

Reply

Joel is older than me by 3 months so I always tell him he’s testing the water of a new year so that he can tell me what its like before I get there lol. Those dog pancakes are super creative! It makes me want brinner too :)

Reply

It HAILED on me when I went out to do my LR! I was way too far from home/my school/the subway so the only way out was to run…and OMG! That Northeasterner! It was just supposed to rain, and when I started it was the usual light rain in NYC..(I went to undergrad in Baton Rouge, so I’m used to monsoons. And BTW where I’m from (not BR), people dress in camo regularly :p).

ANYWAY OMG!!! WISH I had a visor or something– will never (or try to never..) run without one in the cold rain in case something like that happens! Rain turned to hail then hard snow..it HURT so bad, and I had miles to go :/. Used my arm to shield my face during some of it, but wow that came out of nowhere! Crazy NYC!!

Love the last Brooke pic :p. That expression! So glad Skye is getting to regular sleeping hours for you guys, and love the tank!! (Need to find a $15 version of it, hahaha…)

Hi Janae. My husband keeps recommending Dirty Dirty John so I’ll give a try. Btw he is actually one month and one day older than me.
I usually feel very energetic in the morning and fall asleep on the couch at night while watching tv.
Have a great weekend!

Hi Janae!
We have this amazing chocolate shop in town that runs tastings and my husband and I are going tonight! It’s all about the history of the chocolate empires and she makes desserts and you eat while she gives you the history of all things having to do with the major chocolate companies and their conceptions…isn’t that amazing??? That’s what I have to look forward to this weekend!

I’m actually 3 years older than my husband…and he lets me know it on my birthday every year. :) We like to tease that we are going to die “The Notebook” style because male and female life expectancy is about 3-4 years apart. hehe.

Looking forward to some good runs this weekend as well. I have been trying to get in 100,000 during the work week, so it will be nice to run just because I want to and not like it’s my job.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, with family and friends.

Reply

We leave for Kuaui tonight for our babymoon! I am so ready for a break from work! I just started reading Little Fires Everywhere, so hopefully I’ll finish that on the plane, I also have some movies picked out too.
I am a little less than 2.5 years older than Ben.
I haven’t heard of Dirty John! I’ll definitely have to take a look!

Reply

That podcast would creep me out if I listened to it running outside, since I’m an early morning or late evening by myself kind of runner. Inside my garage with the door down would I only be able to listen to that. But I do love those and anything that makes the time go. He’s the older one with us. I’m usually at my best in the early to late morning, I slowly go down hill as the day goes on…..so it’s best I plan all important stuff early on.

Reply

Oh I LOVED Dirty John! It was so interesting!
Friday Favorites – the fact that I made it in to work today instead of having to work from home! The flu is finally leaving me and I feel like a functional human being!
My goal for this weekend is to get some time outside – after being sick, I felt a little stir crazy. The weather is supposed to be decent, and I want to enjoy it. I am not sure if I can handle running yet since I still have a nasty cough but I plan to bike and/or walk if I can’t run!
I am 100% a morning person.

Reply

I love your pic of Knox in the bottom of the cart…brings back memories and I love your negative splits shirt. Just sent the link to my husband for birthday ideas. My husband is older and I’m a morning person for sure.

Reply

My boyfriend is four years older than me. His birthday is a month before mine, so during that month I tease him about how old he is.

Reply

That book is on my list too – I need to read it!
My husband is almost 8 years old than me :)
I’m taking my 11 year old skiing, just the 2 of us, Sunday afternoon/evening – CAN’T wait!!!!

My ILs are Swiss so we have been several times. Have your friend send you straciatella chocolates (they are chocolate chip!) and ovalmaltine crunchy cream. If you like Nutella, ovalmaltine is even better! Also, she can’t really send you one, but I hope she is eating as much Brezel Konig as she can (big pretzels) and drinking lots of my fave, Sinalco.

Reply

AHHHH thanks Jodi, I want to try them all! I am going to copy and paste your message to her:) Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Wood smells delightful. If you go into a wood store/craft store it’s fabulous!

Reply

My husband is 11 years older. It doesn’t seem like such a gap though.
I’m the morning person in our family too. Ever since having kids it’s made me that way really.
We are having date to Lowe’s to start remodeling our bathroom. But it’s easier than taking the kids with us so I’ll tske it. Haha

Reply

Oh I am going to have to try out that podcast. I LOVED Up & Vanished and Serial… I am always looking for new ones because I listen to them in the car each week when I travel out of town for work. It is awesome to pass the time.

All of your kiddos are soooo precious!!! Just love your blog so much!!! I hope you and your family have an amazing weekend!!!! xoxoxo

My grandpa was a carpenter and I just love the smell of fresh cut wood; it’s the best!

My Friday favorite is dropping my kids off at the bus stop and yelling (loudly) that I love them and they’re my favorites. Ha. I am totally that mom!

My daughter has a science bowl tournament at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, so we are making it a whole weekend and celebrating her 14th birthday. Seriously, how did that happen? I swear I’m not old enough to have a 14 year old, even though I had been married for almost 4 years when I had her.

My hubs is almost exactly 2 years older than me.

I usually feel my best from about 6am-12pm.

Reply

Oh my gosh I just have to say how impressed I am with Andrew! How he is able to manage school with two kids, a new baby and a wife is so impressive. I’m currently in PA school and can barely take care of myself haha, so I just wanted to commend him I know it must be a lot of work! The photo of him studying with Skye on his lap made my day. I wish I had something that cute to keep me company while studying.

Thank you for your constant brightness Janae! Your blog is one of the few non-academic things I’ve kept up with because you’re always so positive and real.

Reply

RIGHT!?!!? I seriously have no idea how he is doing it all! PA school… that is AWESOME Alish! You must be crazy busy with that. I can’t thank you enough for your sweet comment, it means a lot to me. I hope you have a great weekend and a bit of a break from all of your studying:)

Hi Janae!! Your family is so cute! I’ve been following you guys for a while now as I love running too!! Skye is the cutest baby! I know you are super busy as a mama/runner/blogger, but I wanted to ask if you had ever heard of Usborne Books! In a nutshell this company sells AMAZING children’s books from babies to middle school aged teens! My kiddos {8.5. & 2} have several and love them! For some reason while I was reading this post, I was like “I gotta tell Janae about these awesome books!” I’m a consultant and am having an online party going on now. Would you like the link to browse? There are so many amazing books from story books to interactive educational ones!
