Yesterday was our monthly post-church-meal (we call it munch and mingle—> clever, I know). We put together a pretty rockin’ salad bar… we may have been a little selfish with this one and we decided to make our personal favorite meal.
It was a hit and I am guessing close to 80 people had a salad. Just trying to spread our obsession of salad bars with everyone.
Brooke was pretty proud of her impressive artwork from church.
And then we went up to Sundance so that Brooke could chase the white butterflies. Sundance is our favorite because it is a little bit cooler up there and the scenery is outrageous.
We can also feed the fish which is always a guaranteed good time for Brooke.
We went over to my parents’ house for Sunday night dinner and I had this bbq chicken salad and roasted potatoes plate x 2.
Why just suck your thumb when you can eat all of your fingers?
This is where things went downhill. My 12 year old nephew beat me in an arm wrestle. It wasn’t even a close fight. I need to get back to bootcamp.
The house champion was my brother-in-law.
I brought dessert (of course). Just my usual freezer ice cream cake. Oreo/butter crust, layer of hot fudge, a layer of cookies ’n’ creme ice cream, cool-whip and sprinkles (in honor of Brooke).
Week #10 of marathon training!!! We are getting close….
Monday: 2.4 mile warm-up. 8 x .5 miles with a 2.5 minute recovery jog in between each one. Average for the .5 mile repeats—> 2:57. 2.4 mile cool-down. 10.7 miles total.
Tuesday: 5.3 miles @ 8:17 pace
Wednesday: 10 minute warm-up. 12 x 400m (.25 miles) with an average of 1:18. 1-2 minute recovery jogs in between each one. 3 x 200m (37 seconds for these) w/ 200m recoveries. 10 minute cool-down. 7.5 miles total.
Thursday: 5 miles @ 8:23 pace
Friday: 18 mile long run @ 7:03 average pace (which is crazy because the week before my 16 miler was also a 7:03 average pace).
Saturday: 3 miles @ 8:34 pace on the treadmill. 45 minutes of strength training.
Sunday: Off!
49.5 miles total!
Today is going to be a rough one. Pulling out the big guns (aka my favorite playlist and motivational quotes) to get this one going.

How was your running last week? Best run? Hardest run?
What was the best thing that you ate this weekend?
Have any fitness/health goals for this week? What?
Do you have more upper or lower body strength?
-Lower body strength. I can barely do a push-up.

Meghan @ getoffyourbuttandrun
I am working really hard at my upper body strength but I have way more lower body strength.
Last week was a tough running week. School started again and finding time was definitely difficult while trying to juggle 2 dogs. My goal for this week is to write in my hourly schedule so I can see when the extra time is.
The Hungry Runner Girl
Girl… I don’t know how you are juggling it all! Way to go doing so much. You’ve got this and good luck with this semester!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
I have more lower body! I’m pretty sure my 12 year old self could beat my current self arm wrestling. I was on vacation last week and running was tough since I was up late every night and it was super humid too.
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
For sure more lower body strength. No question.
I’ve been working on eating a bit cleaner and doing more yoga and strength.
Best thing I ate this weekend. Pie Five. Can’t go wrong with making your own pizza and a salad in a pizza crust bowl. It was great!
Kristina Running
My running last week was pretty amazing. I was on vacation in the Dominican Republic and had the most gorgeous running route!
My goals for the week are just to get back on track with eating, running and life. The first week back after vacation is always a struggle for me. I’m already counting down to the weekend, is that bad? haha I could use a slice of your delicious looking cake to get me through today! :)
Natalie
Running last week was great and a big confidence-booster for sure! I am excited to be training with race goals in mind again. My best run was my long run on Saturday with a faster mile incorporated.
Best thing I ate was definitely my Sunday froyo at my favorite yogurt place ever. I look forward to it every week. I also had a really good burger at my dad’s birthday dinner on Saturday. It was a good weekend for food :)
I love Brooke’s dress! It’s too precious!
Erica {[email protected]}
Fitness goals this week: workout, at all, 3-4x. I’m 38 weeks pregnant so that’s more than enough for me!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I definitely have more lower body strength. Last week was a harder week of running but I still managed to successfully complete all my workouts. My goals for this week are to finally catch up on sleep and recovery after such a busy month.
Jamie
All about that lower body strength… trying to do a pull up is comical. Stretch and foam roll is my goal for the week!!!
Jennife @ JenChoosesJoy
Last week was one of my best training weeks in months. I loved my tempo run best!!!
Best thing I ate: chocolate cake to celebrate my grandparents anniversary
This week’s training goals: I’m running a trail race Saturday!
I have more lower body strength but I’m working hard to improve my upper.
That freezer cake looks so good!!!
Jenny
I was at a wedding this weekend and I had a ball eating macaroons from the dessert bar :-)
Love your dress in that first picture…where is it from?
The Hungry Runner Girl
Macaroons are the best!! Seriously. Glad you had a fun weekend!
It is from Soel Boutique

Have a fabulous day!
Rachel
My running went great last week! My best run was my 16 mile long run, and my hardest run was my 10 mile tempo run.
The best thing I ate this weekend was definitely buffalo chicken dip!
My health/fitness goals this week are to strength train a little bit more and stretch more.
I definitely have more lower body strength, but I do have good upper body strength :)
Barbara
Brooke’s dress, so cute. She is your mini me for sure.
The Hungry Runner Girl
Thank you Barbara:) That makes me really happy!
Nicole
Bad training week :( recovering from injury but at least it’s improving.
Just got into bed (I’m in Australia) and that dessert looks amazing and has made me hungry. I am fighting so hard not to get up and get some ice cream now!!!
Kristen
Best thing I ate this weekend was grilled peaches. I think I could eat those all day long.
Fitness goals: 3 lifting days, 1 running day, 1 yoga day.
Kaella On The Run
I’m on Week 8 of NYC Marathon training and love reading your training recaps as I’m only a couple weeks behind you. It’s my first marathon so I have all the nerves!
I have more lower body strength too! I’m trying to get stronger, up top, but it’s hard to
fit in all in to my already packed schedule!
Fitness goals: stick with my training plan and stay healthy and injury-free!
Jenny
All of my strength is lower body. I can take anyone in leg wrestling (probably not but..ya know) there was a point in time that I had great arm strength and could take my brother in a push up challenge. But I’ve never been good at an arm wrestle.
Slept through my pump class thi morning. The sleep was needed. But now I’ve gotta get a good work out in tonight.
Brittnee
I had to do 45 chin ups this morning at my boot camp style class and yeah, I died. I have no upper body strength and I think I yelled that out a few times! My chin ups are improving though, but my push ups are still mighty ugly!
Michelle
Is there a recipe for that dessert cause I need it! Pretty please ??
The Hungry Runner Girl
Hey Michelle!! This post gives a better explanation! Let me know if you have any questions on how to make it:

Thanks Janae!!
Amy @ They May be Light
Sounds like a great day! I love Sunday’s. They are seriously the best!
Molly @ Motherhood and Marathons
Running last week was pretty good. Hit 53 miles for the week and got in a good 16 miler with 6 tempo miles at the end. It was a great confidence booster!!
The best thing I ate this weekend was a watermelon(!) cupcake. Seriously, it was so so good. Whoever thought of that is a genius!
Fitness goal this week is to keep up my training and to really focus on keeping my easy days EASY. I struggle with this a lot!
Gretchen | Gretchruns
That’s a great week of workouts! I had a race this weekend which went really well, followed by a great recovery run. My entire week of workouts was really good overall, so I’m happy!
My goal for this week is to do more cross training. I also want to go on a few bike rides while it’s still nice out!
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff
I definitely have more lower body strength. I tried stand up paddleboarding and my arms are so sore from pushing the oars.
I had lots of short runs while on vacation last week. Today I am going to get in a long run. Just waiting for evening so it’s not so hot.
Annette in GA
Your salads always look so delicious! They inspire me to eat more salads.
Going to try pool running for the first time tomorrow. I have plantar fasciitis in my left foot so I’m going to take a couple of weeks off of regular running. I’ve been re-reading some of your pool running blogs and I’m excited to give it a try!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Good luck in the pool Annette! I am excited for you to try it out… it is a killer workout for me and the best way to keep up your fitness while you are getting that plantar fixed. Keep me updated!
Lisa @ Life as Lisa Knows It
How well do you think that freezer cake would ship to NJ?? I am willing to find out. :-) Please do share how you made it! :-)
The Hungry Runner Girl
Hey Lisa! I’ll put it in the mail right now! Here is a more detailed explanation on how to make it:

Arthi
That. Ice cream. Pie. Looks awesome.
Best thing(s) I ate this weekend were sweet potato fries and honey graham flavored frozen yogurt. Perfect way to refuel after an 18-miler!
Natalie
Hilarious photo bomber in first picture :)
The Hungry Runner Girl
hahahah our friend nailed it with the photo bombing ! Hope you have a great day Natalie!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
My goal this week is to cut back on my sugar intake. Sometimes when I’m not paying attention I have a little more than I should. The good news is always have a lot of salads and greens to balance it out!
meredith @ Cookie ChRUNicles
So many great things over the weekend I can’t even decide! Sushi, a hot fudge sundae, terrific frozen yogurt and a great salad Saturday night with onion rings :)
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
I suck at arm wrestling!! That dessert looks delicious!
Caitlyn @ Candid Cerebrations
So cute that your family does arm wrestling. My running was great this past week. I got in a solid long run Sunday (15.5 mi) which felt good and I’m not feeling much of it today which is the best part. I’m starting to feel like my body might be able to handle a full marathon in 2 months (first time).
As for the best thing I ate, I tried the coconut shaved cream from Snowdays in NYC. It’s lighter than ice cream and delicious. I topped it with bananas and chocolate sauce. Also I love that their coconut flavor is dairy free (but doesn’t taste like it).
Oh and I definitely have 0 upper body strength. Z-E-R-O It’s pathetic.
Angie @ Pace With Grace
My running last week felt off. I was tired and not feeling the best. Hoping this week turns around but so far, its not looking too good; I’m sick with a stomach bug.
I have more lower body strength for sure but my upper body is pretty strong.
Best thing I ate this weekend was my sister’s wedding dinner- delicious roasted chicken, beef tips, glazed carrots and garlic mashed potatoes.
Have a good week!
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust
Salad bars are always a hit. I like to think of it as creating your own food art. ☺ No two salads are the same!
My health/fitness goal this week is to do a lot of walking (maybe even jogging) in hopes of going into labor. I am ready to meet my baby boy!!
Christy
Running was sort of on the back burner this weekend. Hubs has a marathon in a few weeks so I let him go out for his 22-miler while I stayed home with our 2yo daughter. I did manage to get out for 10mi yesterday morning. We stayed in and worked on potty training all weekend. Nailed it! Looking forward to diaper-free days!
I broke out the bread maker Saturday and made cinnamon raisin bread. I forget how good it is when I make it from scratch. I see more bread making happening in the future.
Love Brooke’s striped dress! Where did you get it?
The Hungry Runner Girl
Hey Christy! It is from Old Navy and I think they still have it! GOOD luck to your husband with his marathon and way to get out for your 10 miler too! Congrats on the potty training… we are in the thick of things right now! Enjoy that bread!
Tedi @ running with infertility
I’ve got lower body strength. I can maybe do 2 push ups. :$
Christy
That dessert looks tasty!
Annette @ Sweating Through Life
My arms consist of bone and skin….no muscle. Ok, maybe the little bit that we get from running, but that’s it. haha.
Those salads look delicious…it’s lunch time.
Amanda
Where do you shop for your adorable church dresses? You always look so classy.
I just bought a bunch of salted caramel gus and thought of you.
I am 11 weeks out from a half marathon and I haven’t been running lately. So today was week 2 day 1 and it was a brutally hot 5 miler (I live in Florida). Last week was a gentle reboot back into running. Should be an interesting training session.
Emily
Last week was a tough running week! I was supposed to kick off half marathon training, but ended up having a disappointing running week. My oldest (just about a month older than Brooke) started preschool today so I’m hoping that I can squeeze in some good running while he’s at school! My fitness goal for the fall!
Mary
oh man my running last week. best run was wednesday, kept a fast (for me) pace and felt great! hardest would be my 20 miler saturday with over 3000 ft of elevation gain and descent. woof!
Grace @ Diary of a Running Snail
49.5 miles – woohoo!!!!
I love Brooke’s dress… She has a better wardrobe than I do!
The best thing I ate this weekend was a burger with cheese, bacon and peanut butter. Amazing, I promise! Go to The Works if you’re ever in Canada:)
Kay
Mmm, that ice cream cake looks amazing!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan
My running was all over the place last week. I had some serious pace problems earlier in the week, but I successfully hit 18 miles for the first time ever on my long run – so that’s exciting!
Best thing I ate this weekend was pizza! You can’t go wrong with pizza! :)
I’m trying to get more sleep this week – I’m terrible about early bedtimes and marathon training is starting to take its toll!
Lower body strength, for sure. I really should work on my upper body…and my core.
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss
With Pure Barre in the mix, I think my upper bod strength has gotten a ton better! But I’d still say I have more strength in my lower body as ladies naturally do. ;)
My running week was actually pretty fab after hitting up an infrared sauna for my sore muscles. I swear it’s made me run faster!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I definitely have more lower body strength. I’ve even been working on my push-ups for a few months now but they are still SO hard to do! This week I am trying to kick this cold that I have been dealing with for way too long.
Rachael @ Catch Me if You Can
running last week was passable. Not the best but not terrible. I had a track workout this weekend and did exactly as many laps as I had planned albeit times not the absolute best but better than not running at all!
the silent assassin
Curious to know how the arm wrestling challenge started =). I am in week 13 of training. This morning I pulled a 14 miler in AZ temps. By the end of this month, if I get through this week, I will have logged over 270 miles. That’s huge for me!
T.O.
I work upper body strength twice a week and can really tell in my running arm swing! I did 6 strict overhand pull ups a couple weeks ago for a new PR. It has taken a long time to get there, though!
Sheena @ Paws and Pavement
Your dessert looks so good! I’ve been craving chocolate so I just might have to give it a try.
Heather @ Run Eat Play
That cake looks amazing!
Since the kids are back in school today, I finally got to run outside for the first time in a long time. I stick to shorter distances and HIIT workouts but it was nice to be outside!!
Courteney O
Your calf muscles in your running pic are AMAZING….just saying!
Amanda B @ Cupcakes & Miles
I love all your pics! And, your nephew would have kicked my butt too! I just know it!
The best thing I ate all weekend was some delicious sushi! :)
Melissa
-I only ran twice last week, do to not feeling well. But I’m feeling better this week ready to tackle my goals!!
-(not the weekend) but Monday I made triple chocolate GF cookies…aammazing! :)
-My goal is 25 miles this week!
-Major lower body strength here! God blessed me with VERY muscular thighs :) LOL
Rachel @ Simply Rachel Nicole
Your nephew is absolutely adorable!! Good luck on your run!! :)
lindsey
Pull-ups are probably my favorite thing ever. My lower and upper body are pretty even thanks to crossfit.
