My kind of date night.

I’ve been spending every free second with a pretty awesome dude the last little bit and luckily, he loves good food just as much as I do.  We decided to turn Blue Apron meals into some pretty epic date nights for us.

IMG 2525

Our Blue Apron meals worked perfect for date nights because all of the farm-fresh ingredients were delivered right to my doorstep (yay for avoiding the grocery store!).  Everything is sent in exactly the right proportions.  We got to spend time together in the kitchen trying out new ingredients and chef-designed recipes while laughing and talking together.

IMG 2509

Brooke even helped us make the salad.  She is all about getting involved in the kitchen.

IMG 2516

Our finished masterpiece—>  Salmon Caesar Salad.  It was so fun to make the dressing and croutons from scratch and the salmon tasted amazing.

IMG 2530

For our second Blue Apron date night we made his favorite… Sirloin Steaks with Mashed Purple Potatoes and Summer Vegetables.  I had never had a purple potato in my life until this meal and I am a huge fan now, especially in the mashed potato form.

IMG 2460

No babysitter necessary on Blue Apron date nights.  We were able to put Brooke down for bed and enjoy making an amazing dinner together at my house.

IMG 2468

You can choose from two different types of plans, the 2-Person Plan ($9.99 per person) and the Family Plan ($8.74 per person per meal).  Those prices are cheaper than what we spend going out on dates to restaurants plus the food tasted better and we had the experience of making the meal together which was a blast.

IMG 2480

I have used Blue Apron a lot over the last year and one of my favorite things about them is that they are ALWAYS adding new dishes and recipes to their menu every week.  I have learned how to cook several different meals.  Blue Apron helps me to branch out and try new things.

Plus, I hope I impressed him with my culinary skills;)

IMG 2487

The Chicken & Basil Fettuccine Pasta was so ridiculously good.  I could eat this meal at least once a week:)

IMG 2490

Brooke loved the leftovers the next day.  Why use a fork when you have two hands that can get the noodles in your mouth way faster?

IMG 2494

We decided for our next date nights at home we want to try out the Spinach & Basil Peso Gnocchi, Seared Salmon and Roasted Potatoes and Three Cheese Calzones!

PS Blue Apron just launched in Texas and now ships to most of the country!  Shipping is always free and everything is delivered in a refrigerated box so ingredients will stay fresh even if you’re not home when your package arrives!

Hurry and sign up now—>  The first 100 readers get two free meals on their first Blue Apron order!  Go HERE to score this offer and there is no commitment—>  you can skip or cancel the service at any time.

Sponsored by Blue Apron!  Make sure to eat something delicious right now after seeing and talking about all of this yummy food!

At home dates are the best sometimes, especially when kids are involved and you have no choice :) Now if I could get my husband to cook with me, my date night would be even better!

This is a great idea for a date night! I’ve definitely been getting tired of cooking the same things over and over lately.

Cooking together is one of my favorite dates! Even though I cook for my husband every night, it’s still so fun to cook a nice meal together. I’m so happy for you that you’ve met an awesome man!

I’m not much of a cook but that actually does seem like a pretty great date night idea!! The chicken and basil fettuccini pasta sounds amazing!

I always enjoy stress free in home dates. I’m glad you are enjoying yourself Janae, especially with an epic date night. Salmon is my favorite so I understand that.

Reply

I have started to prefer just eating at home rather than going out. I usually make better food! I might buy something special or try out a new recipe!

Reply

I feel like I always connect to people a million times better – if we’re making it together, even more so. I mean, you can’t help but like a guy who likes the same food as you!!

I’m so happy for you Janae! I hope that he’s a great guy who makes you happy. Best of luck to you…you deserve the best. I love Blue Apron and just got my third box last week! They have the best meals :)

I’ve used Blue Apron before and I love them! My husband eats A LOT so I’ve found that ordering the meals for 4, even though it’s really just for two, is more cost effective for us and he still has some leftovers for lunch the next day! Glad you and the dater-boy are loving cooking together, it’s such a great way to bond and see if you make a good team!

Reply

Yay for a new guy in your life, Janae! As well as for all of this yummy food. I love that Blue Apron gives you all you need to make a great meal at home! I’d love to give it another try one day!

Reply

I’ve been using Blue Apron and had the exact same meals as you! Those purple mashed potatoes were da bomb! And not having to go to the grocery store…..the best!!!

I’ve been thinking of trying a similar service near where I live in Boston – https://www.lighterculture.com/ We’re on a whole foods, plant-based diet after watching Forks Over Knives a couple years ago so it’s harder to do take-out or other “easy” meal options. Your post has me re-inspired to find some plant-based options for nights that I need to take it easy! I did some pre-made meals from veestro.com once, and they were ok, but there was just so much packaging and shipping and they’re essentially microwave meals. I like the idea of using a meal planning service and possibly one that also delivers the groceries – healthier than take out, easier than doing it all yourself, and much less expensive than trying to find a personal chef or something!

Reply

…and I literally just found a similar site that does whole food, plant-based delivery of meal boxes with recipes just like this! It’s out of Boston not far from me :) http://www.thepurplecarrot.com

Thanks for the inspiration! If they let me return their freezer packs so I can reuse them and reduce my carbon footprint, this might become a regular guilty pleasure…

Who says no to two nights of free food? You have the coolest sponsor posts. Hopefully someday my little blog will have cool sponsor posts like you. At this point I’ll take what I can get.

Reply

I like your boyfriend’s style. This sounds super strange typing it out, but I hope you know what I mean by this. Haha. It’s great he has so much fun with Brooke! It’s a huge, huge plus!

Reply

Oh I love this idea! Good to know that little ones like it too. I need to try it sometime!

Reply

umm YUM! I am not exactly a lover of cooking, but I definitely think this would help me! And cooking with someone else always makes it better :)

Its amazing how big of a part food is in the life of a runner. My family also spends time in the kitchen with the children making dinners. Additionally, quality food is super important to us. We also discuss food constantly. I didn’t eat red meat from 2001-2009 and I decided this past weekend to once again give it up. So yeah, food is everywhere everyday.

Reply

that salmon looks amazing…it’s one of my favorites, but I’m always scared of cooking salmon myself at home. not sure why haha.

Both you and Brooke seem happy right now, and I’m happy for you :)

I live in Texas (Dallas) and we will be getting our 2nd order of Blue Apron today. The first order was fabulous and their customer service is amazing. I’m glad you enjoyed the meals as much as my family does. Great to see you (and Brooke, which is my daughter’s middle name) looking so happy! Have a wonderful day!

Reply

I am so happy that you are loving them!! Enjoy your second order and let me know what you make:)

Reply

Ah, your dress! Where did you get it? I LOVE it!

My boyfriend and I love to make a date night in the kitchen. Food is the way to the heart!! :)

Reply

This is the whole reason I get Blue Apron meals! I can’t justify the price just for supper but when my fiancé and I get to spend three nights cooking together, it’s totally worth it. We have so much more fun than we would going out, it’s less expensive, and we get to do it three nights instead of just one.

Reply

That fettuccine looks amazing. Also, I’ve never had purple potatoes but they look so good! Do they taste any different or pretty similar to reg. potatoes? Cute date night ideas :)

Reply

Thank you for the Blue Apron meal offer! Getting my first delivery next week. I am super excited to try something different…..feeding 5 people on crazy schedules here and kind of in a rut.
Just want you to know I enjoy your blog SO much. It’s so inspiring yet light hearted. Have a blessed day.

Everyone I know is doing Blue Apron. Thanks for the Blue Apron deal! I think I’m finally going to jump on the bandwagon.

super random question. I have been shopping between two different pairs of bluetooth headphones and I was wondering just how waterproof yours are. I frequently dump water on my head during races, would this ruin yours or do you think they would hold up to the occasional water dump?

Reply

Hey Stephanie!! Hmmmmm I don’t know if they would ruin them but I don’t personally think I would try that. They are ‘sweat proof’ so they can handle sweat but I don’t know if a cup full of water would do any damage.

Reply

Love having date nights at home! I truly enjoy cooking for other people so this is something I would do.

Reply

Ahh, I’m so happy for you!! I’m glad to see you’re doing well! <3

Reply

Yay! Glad to hear there’s a special guy in your life who’s making you happy! :)

Reply

Awww, this post makes me smile. I’m glad you’ve found someone that makes you happy AND that is good with Brooker too!

I really wish there was something like this where I’m from. And then a boy to share the experience with, haha.

Reply

Yay for fun date nights! So happy for you!

Reply

YAY! You’re dating someone new :) Good luck <3

Brooke is adorbs in the last photo.

Reply

Hmmm….so I guess I am just a sucker and I am finally going to give this a try. Thank you for the discount!! :) It is nice that you are not committed to delivery every week, but you can kind of pick & choose. Hopefully they will come out with a 2 person/2 meals per week soon. I think that option would be ideal for our lifestyle!

Very exciting to hear about a potential new suitor in your life, too! :)

Reply

I love BA. I originally got them as something my husband and I could do together at night. I’ve been getting them for months now and they are great!

Reply

I love Blue Apron! We’ve been doing it about a month (4 person plan), and even though I consider myself a great cook, I am going outside of my comfort zone and trying new things!

Reply

Oh good!!! Seriously, it really is so fun to branch out:) Enjoy your next delivery!

Reply

All of the dishes look great, and such a cute date night idea!

Reply

Well he is a very lucky man ;)

All of those meals look soooo good! I need Blue Apron to come to Canada!

Reply

That looks so yummy! And I am SOOOOOO glad that you are dating someone and are happy :)

Reply

YAY for date nights! so happy for you!! :)

Reply

I’ve never heard of purple potatoes, I’ll have to check them out to see if we can get them in Ireland. Those recipes look great, I’m starting to get hungry again, even though I’ve just eaten.. :)

Reply

Recently I’ve tried to figure out how to cook for one (and two) in a healthy, fun, and economical way. Since divorcing, my bills didn’t necessarily get cut in half, but the income did. Now that I’m dating, and we both want to be health-conscience, while being budget-conscience; thus, I needed to retrain myself on my style of cooking.

I signed up for the Blue Apron deal that you offered. Fingers crossed!

Love your blog. Meant to ask…was your foot pain plantar fasciitis??? i have it and was wondering if you did and if so did you run through the pain???

Reply

Where did you get the bracelet in the 3rd picture from the top? Love it!

Reply

Yummy! I’ve seen Blue Apron on several blogs, and I think it would be fun to try!

Reply

Bummer, Blue Apron doesn’t ship to my area yet.

Reply

It looks like you are having a lot of fun with your dates lately, and you seem happy! I love that!

Reply

I love reading about your dating life. You’re a tad mysterious about it (as you should be!), and it makes me so so interested! With that said, what is most important is that you are content and he treats you and Brooke right. I hope it works out for the best. I know God has someone incredible in store for you. <3

Reply

Oh wow! Thank you for the discount and letting us know Blue Apron is finally available in TX! I signed up for next week and I am so excited to try it. Thanks!!

Reply

You’ve convince me to try this out (thanks for the discount!). I get in recipe ruts and the price doesn’t seem bad.

Reply

I’ve tried something similar in the UK and it was really fun!
