Remember how last winter my running group and I would go sit in the river after our long runs to take an ice bath? It would be about 20 degrees outside in the first place and then we thought it would be a fun idea to go sit in the river for 8 minutes after our long runs. I guess I am not hardcore anymore or something because you couldn’t pay me to get in that cold cold river again.
The 17 miler was a success. 2 reasons why—> I kept telling myself all week that it was going to be a great run. We fueled and hydrated like a boss.
I think the endurance side of marathon training is also just starting to kick in again. We were both a lot happier throughout the entire run. Back to the normal laughing and talking each other’s ears off for the entire run.
For some reason our bodies just prefer the exact same pace for every single long run that we do. Another 7:56 day in the books.
17 miles done and back to my parents’ house before Brooke woke up. That felt good.
Brooke and I take Saturdays seriously.
Just some pony rides while gazing off into the horizon:
And then a random ‘winter’ party at the outdoor shopping mall.
Some reindeer even made an appearance.
One of my favorite humans ever is getting hitched in March. She was in town so we went partied hard;)
We went to Communal which is on my list of my top favorite 5 Utah Restaurants. I only snapped a picture of our appetizers but there were about 10 more plates of goodness that arrived to our table.
17 miles in the morning = the need for a pie shake at night. They literally blend up a piece of pie (we had apple cobbler and also the mint oreo one) with ice cream.
Enjoy your Sunday!!!!!!!!

I need you to tell us your list of your 5 favorite restaurants in your city!
How did you spend your Saturday night?
What type of pie would you put in your pie shake?

Sarah @ KS Runner
We had a froyo date last night, which was pretty awesome. I would put Oreo pie in my shake. Yum! Glad you had such a great long run!
Karien @ Running the Race
Pie shake sounds delicious! Anything choc-minty in mine ;) .

Michele @ paleorunningmomma
Not sure how you ever did an ice bath like that to begin with! Looks like a fun weekend :)
Robyn @ Robyn's Living Life
I spent my Saturday night dog-sitting and watching Gilmore Girls!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I used to take ice baths but I’m so over that now…not sure I could have ever jumped in an icy river!
I think I would need to add some sort of chocolate peanut butter pie to a shake. Sounds like perfection especially after a long run.
Laur
I spent my Saturday night getting banana/chocolate chip diner pancakes (FAVE!) and reading. Party.ANIMAL.
I would get peanut butter pie or banana cream pie… OR BOTH. Oh my gosh. Definitely, both.
Kristen
I live in a smallish city/biggish town so we probably only have about 10 restaurants unless you count fast food or straight up bars (well, maybe they serve wings or something).
Last night my daughter and I made sundaes and binge watched Once Upon A Time.
We were both sound asleep before 10:00. It was awesome.
Sam @ The Running Graduate
Looks like you had a really fun night!! I would love raspberry pie in a shake.
I spent last night watching the New Balance track meet then doing some homework.
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff
Ooh apple cobbler in vanilla ice cream sounds like the perfect shake.
I spent my Saturday getting to know my boyfriends daughters a little more. It was so fun. We did crafts and played video games and laughed! They are such amazing kids.
Ooh 5 restaurants in my city. That’s hard because I live in New York City.
Zero Otto Nove and Lombardi’s for my favorite italian and brick oven pizza
Virgil’s BBQ for ribs
For Mexican I love Dos Caminos
And the 5 th fave is a burger joint called Silver Spurs.
[email protected]
I think I would just keep my shake a good old chocolate shake…or I guess maybe french silk pie :)
We hardly ever go out to eat so I don’t think I can even come up with 5. One of my favorite restaurants though is Wildfire…best chopped salad!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan
Goldfish, Okinawa, Keenan House, and Brasserie Swiss are our favorite restaurants in Ossining.
I spent my Saturday night eating the BEST beef wellington ever out at dinner with my boyfriend and his parents. It was amazing!
Apple pie shake!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I would love a blended up chocolate pie..Yum! And gosh, pick just 5 of my faves? Hmm – In New York (city and long island) – Max Brenner, Alta, Bond Street, Andrea’s 25 and Nisen…The Cheesecake Factory is my favorite but it’s nationwide so we won’t count it as part of my five :)
Hollie
I want those hats for my bachelorette party! That is awesome.
It looks like you guys had a great time and nice 17 miler. I have found that the jump from 15 to 17 and up is always the most mentally challenging for me. It sounds like your Boston training is going really well.
Kaella On The Run
I spent Saturday night shopping for new runners and then going to bed at 10. I’m crazy, I know! ;)
I would put a Saskatoon berry pie in!! Yummy!
Top 5:
Firestone, Two Guys Pizza, Telegraph, Browns and Hudsons
Leigha @ The Yooper Girl
5 restaurants don’t even exist in my town, lol!
Yesterday I went ice climbing at Michigan Ice Fest. It was INCREDIBLE! It’s so cool to think that I climbed up totally vertical sheets of ice! I am feelin’ pretty sore in the shoulders today but I’m about to head our for a run since I didn’t get out yesterday!
Chelsea @ runner's table
That sounds like a great run! I only went 9 yesterday because its my rest week, but I made it a tempo and ran 8min miles on my long uphills (my route goes up and then back down at the halfway point), which felt pretty good.
Last night we went for a walk to watch the sunset, then got Chinese takeout and watched movies- not too exciting, but pretty nice nonetheless.
My favorite restaurants in SLC are the Wild Grape Bistro, the Tin Angel, Eva, Sawadee, and either Squatter’s or Red Iguana. There are too many good ones to choose from, but that’s my normal rotation.
I’m not so sure about a pie shake…crust doesn’t really do it for me. I’d probably do pumpkin, though.
Brooke @ sweats & sweets
Best restaurants in Atlanta: AJ’s Famous Seafood & PoBoys, The Vortex, Empire State South, One Eared Stag, and Two Urban Licks.
I would have to have a citrus pie, like lemon meringue pie.
Laura
WOW–you had an awesome run!
Last night I worked-out, then did 8 minute abs, and stretched.
My favorite restaurants are all local Chinese food restaurants in the suburbs of Chicago.
Your pie shake.. is kind of like the “Cake Shake” from Portillo’s–where they blend a piece of cake in to your shake. But I never had one–and have to be gluten free–so I probably never will. But I will definitely have to make one myself sometime. I hate pie though–GROSS.
Adrianna
yay portillos!
Courtney! @ Redefining Athlete
I just saw this GF chocolate cake on another blog and I thought of you. If you were my neighbor, I’d make you a GF cake shake: http://www.pbfingers.com/2015/02/11/gluten-free-hersheys-perfectly-chocolate-chocolate-cake/
Laura
Yes! I just saw this too… unfortunately my apartment flooded yesterday.. so I cannot bake at all, but I will definitely be finding a treat this Friday for Galentine’s Day .. plus stress-treat due to flood.
Livi @ Eat, Pray, Work It Out
I would definitely have pumpkin pie!!
Courtney! @ Redefining Athlete
I’m not a big pie person unless it has chocolate… but there is a chain called Portillo’s that does the same thing, but with chocolate cake. The chocolate cake shake is probably the best invention on earth. They also have the BEST hot dogs and Italian beef. I had my wedding’s rehearsal dinner there.
I WISH Kansas City had a Portillo’s. And a White Castle :) My favorite restaurant here is probably Blue Stem (but it is fancy, so we only go during happy hour, haha). If you asked my credit card statements, my favorite restaurant is probably Pizza Hut.
tess
LOL. Your credit card statements. Hey now…my credit card statements tell outright lies. Don’t they all? ;)
Adrianna
love that you had your rehearsal at portillos! so great.
kristin | W [H] A T C H
pie shake – yes, please.
Irina
Congrats on a successful long run at last! At least one of us enjoyed it (hint, it wasn’t me haha).
Onto a more important topic – pie. Back when I was in high school my best friend and I would always drive to Baker’s Square to pick up huge slices of their Oreo pie. Oh mah goodness…it was out of this world delicious! It’s been ages since I last bought that pie, perhaps it’s time to change that!
Laureen @Peachylau
well done on the long run
Suzy
I’d take ice baths when I trained for my ultra. My daughter would swish the water around and giggle at my reaction. Last night, we only had the baby here with us and we went to bed at 7:30. To say I needed sleep is understatement of the century. Tomorrow is a holiday here so I’ll party it up tonight (maybe I’ll stay up until 10). HA!
tess
Banana cream pie. Right there. I want one now. You can skip the “make it a shake” part and just give me the pie.
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
Congrats on a great long run!
Apple pie all the way in a milkshake, with cinnamon ice cream!
Saturday night my husband and I binged watched Heroes on Netflix. Such a good show!
[email protected]
Happy Sunday! We are getting buried by snow here and I am watching Parenthood to survive!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
Pumpkin pie would definitely be my choice. I have to say that is genius. Last night I went to my favorite restuarant in Phoenix Pita Jungle with my Mom then baked oatmeal raisin cookies after. Happy Sunday!
Terriln
In Pittsburgh, I like to go to Primanti Brothers, Nola on the square, and Monterey Bay.
I spent Saturday night buying a new dishwasher for my tenants and then watching Cake with my boyfriend.
Peanut butter chocolate pie in my ice cream. I love fruit pies but don’t like fruit in my ice cream!
Elle @ The Clean Project
Faves in Kansas City: blue stem, Cooper’s Hawk, Pizzabella and Westside Local
Linda @ TheFitty
What range is your heart rate throughout this run? Fat burn, maybe since you’re able to talk as your run?
Joanna @Crazy Runner Girl
If you are in Houston, you HAVE to try Taste of Texas. Salad Bar = to die for, and that’s just the first course. They have some sort of spiked milk shake that comes in a cowboy boot….love it!!!!
I was back running for the first time this weekend. 8 miles never felt so good :)
Caroline @ The Little Things
right now I feel like lemon meringue pie is what I want, but I’m not sure how that would translate into a pie. Blueberry would also be amazing.
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
It’s nearly impossible to choose just five restaurants in San Francisco, but Kokkari may be my favorite. And for pie in a milkshake? Pumpkin? Anything! Cute hats!
Laura
Yum a pie shake?!! I would totally do Apple or pumpkin pie.
Last night was spent sitting around stuffing my face and watching movies after our soaking wet 18 miler. It wasn’t cold, but I could wring out every piece of clothing, it was lovely!
Lauren
Last night the boys were at the Coyotes game so my daughter and I made “healthy blondies” and watched High School Musical 3.
Favorite Phoenix/Scottsdale Restaurants: Chelsea’s Kitchen, True Food, Sumo Maya, Grassroots and La Grande Orange
Sidenote: Did you see the Serial Guy was granted an appeal?
Lauren
Jessica @ kiwiyogirunner
So great that your run was a success! :)
I would put apple pie in my pie shake, I think it would be good right?
In my city (auckland in NZ ) there is a place called chocolate boutique with the most amazing chocolate drinks and desserts!
In Sydney Australia where I’m living now there is the cutest diner where they give you free popcorn and serve amazing milkshakes and ice cream in a crepe instead of a cone!
Reading this apparently I have a sweet tooth :)
Nina
The top 5. I’m picking from Manhattan and Staten Island:
Becco, Sacred Chow, L’Ecole, La Fontana, Bayou
I was crazy last night: watched tv, ate and slept.
I’d put derby pie in a shake.
Kathy
In Des Moines- Fong’s Pizza, Mi Patria, Sakari, Centro, Drake Diner.
Saturday night- kinda sad, working and watching old episodes of Mythbusters.
An Italian restaurant I used to work at would sometimes use tirimisu in shakes. Try it.

Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse
Way to go on your 17 miler!! I am so glad that it was a good run for you! And I am still in shock at how warm it is here in Provo this winter! It is almost too good to be true!
Luv What You Do
Cute hats!
French silk pie for sure!
Natalie
Way to rock your 17 miler!!
5 great restaurants in Santa Monica (in no particular order and this is hard because there are so many good ones) – anyone that ever comes for the LA Marathon should check them out!
1. Il Ristorante di Georgio Baldi
2. Farmshop
3. Locanda Portofino
4. Rustic Canyon

LeAnne @ This is my faster!
Apple pie definitely! That shake sounds soooo good!!!!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
I love those wedding hats! Glad you had a good weekend!
Emily
Wow. 7:56 pace on the long run. You are SO FAST. I only run that fast for a 5k, and that’s only sometimes. :D
I need you to tell us your list of your 5 favorite restaurants in your city!
Well, I live in a small town, so we have a little over 5 restaurants in my city. So I’ll expand a bit out of my city.
I enjoy a place called ‘Guadalajara’ with AMAZING mexican food, Sonic with yummy shakes, subway, a fro-yo place called ‘Soho Yogurt’, and Country Buffet. :D
How did you spend your Saturday night?
Sleeping. And reading a book. It was nice!

Peanut butter or some sort of minty pie. pie shake sounds good right now

Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
I spent my Saturday night watching Whiplash and Nightcrawler (both great movies) and making chocolate chip mug cookies! In 45 seconds I can have a delicious cookie all for me. This is dangerous.
Kay
That restaurant looks great, especially with pie shakes!
Shannon
Seriously, one of your friends looks a lot like a girl I used to be friends with. It really throws me off.
Tedi @ Running With Infertility
I would go with an Oreo Pie Shake… I just love oreo’s… Even on a dessert pizza! :)
