Food, some running in the rain and I really did try.

It has been ages (or maybe a few weeks) since the three of us got together for a girls night.  We met up after our kiddos all went to bed to get some dinner.

The salad I dream about.

And just because it is our post-dinner tradition together:

I ended up sleeping at my mom’s house last night so I could hit the roads for an early morning run while Brooke was snoozing.  The reason I have this random picture below for you is to show you that I didn’t wear anything to cover my ears on the run.  I actually think I could have gone without the jacket too because it felt so good outside.  Whatever is going on with this Utah winter, I am more than okay with it staying like this.

It was raining for our 7.43 miles but it was just the right amount of rain so it felt really refreshing.

Megan D (you know her from the comments section where she leaves a few paragraphs for us to enjoy;) invited us over for the most delicious minestrone.  Recipe HERE!

IMG 1656

I loved seeing her new treadmill set-up.  With three little ones the treadmill is her bff.

And just because I loved Candice’s cup.

The last randomness that I will leave you with today:

My brother made an awesome book with a bunch of pictures of my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.  I felt the need to share with you my baby picture and a picture of me when I was 3.

I have a Precor treadmill at home. Love it. Use it all the time, esp in the winter.

I do love running in the rain as long as it isn’t too cold outside. If it is going to freeze me to the bone, I’ll pass and watch it from my window.

Last thing I ate – Dove milk chocolate. It was awesome.

I have been saving up for a treadmill for as long as I remember. For some reason I can’t force myself to wake up early and it’s dark when I get home, so I am in desperate NEEEED of a treadmill! :) And when I do, I’m setting it up just like the picture above!

Is this the “Megan” who writes paragraphs? I’m a little out of the loop, but am catching up slowly! :)

Haha! I don’t think that’s me… I don’t comment too often. :)

I live in the northwest, running in the rain is a must!

Mmmm that minestrone looks amazing! You’re making me hungry for dinner and that’s still hours away!

That treadmill setup is really nice! I used to have a treadmill at home but I live in a condo on the third floor and my neighbors below said they could hear me stomping around on it so I stopped using it, haha. Oops!

Reply

That salad looks DIVINE! The baby pic of you looks like Brooke!

The last thing I ate was some peanuts. I love to run in the rain because where I live it rains very often. I have a half marathon on Saturday but had some knee issues during training but ran a 13 miler last week so fingers crossed Saturday goes well. Love your blog your such an inspiration for me to keep running.

Wittle Janae is too cute!!

I have a spin bike at home … I was using it about 2x a week, but now that the weather is better I do most physical activity outdoors :)

Nay to running in the rain … I’m worried I’d slip and fall and mess up my knee :)

Just ate a pickle! Best snack after work, just is!

I am mostly a treadmill runner, since I started running when my daughter took her nap. I do try and get outside, but the treadmill is so convenient!

I like to run in the rain, as long as it is not freezing cold. I also like to run when it just starts to snow, so pretty!

The last thing I ate was a dark chocolate Hershey kiss. I am housebreaking my daughter’s early Christmas present (10 week old Goldendoodle) and needed the chocolate to calm my nerves after going outside for the 10th time that hour! :)

Reply

I WISH I had a treadmill at home but I go to the gym to run on one :)
I just ate an apple! Haha

Reply

YES! I have a treadmill at home that I use almost every day. With a little guy at home I rely on it to get my runs in most of the time! I LOVE her set up! I need a tv over mine. Now, I just use my IPAD :)

I like to run in the rain. It’s refreshing :)

I’m eating an apple as I type this but I had PIZZA for lunch! Mmmmm

Reply

Haha I see SO much of Brooke in that photo of you!

I would give ANYTHING for a treadmill, that would be so so nice on the days when it’s hard to get out of the house!

I like to run in the rain, as long as it isn’t too cold and of course not lightning or anything scary!

Reply

Your salad looks amazing!! I’d love to get a treadmill for my home so I could run during nap time.

Reply

I have a nordictrack at home. I use it on average maybe 2-3 times a week. I love having the option!

I don’t mind running in the rain, it beats the heat any day! As long as it’s not hailing on me, I’m okay!

I just had lunch…eggs and toast. I guess it was brunch.

Cute baby pic!

Reply

That looks like my dream salad, too. I don’t like running in the rain as much as I used to. If I’m not training for something specifically with a plan, I try to skip the rain. In the summer it’s a completely different story though!

Last thing I ate were some cut up applegate hotdogs with spinach for a quick snack. Now on to make dinner!

Reply

Absolutely yes on the rain running. In the desert there’s nothing better. Ok maybe not when its monsoon rain but otherwise the rain is glorious and the smell of the desert dirt. Ok I’m officially weird. I don’t have a treadmill at home and honestly I don’t think I’d use one of I did. The weather is usually good in Phoenix and I have a gym membership as a backup.

Reply

Running in the rain isn’t too bad. My last half was mostly in the pouring rain!

I do not have a treadmill at home – I wish!!!

Reply

Ran in a downpour on Oahu this morning! A lovely 68 degrees.

I just ate an amazing chicken sandwich with lemongrass, jalapeños, and Asian sauce!

I never thought I’d see the day…but I just bought my first treadmill…it’s on a sleigh heading toward my house now… I posted a few weeks ago about a nasty shoulder injury that hijacked my world. Just got the ok to run a bit and start rehabbing…but will destroy myself if I fall on the mn snow and ice…so I’m gonna give this treadmill thing a try…also trying pool running for the first time tomorrow! Feels good to move again. Still haven’t given up on running Boston in April…even if I’m the very…last…person across the line. (: gave my handicapped son a two-armed hug for the first time in six weeks…pt goal número uno…check!

Reply

Oh wow that minestrone looks SO good! I’ve been doing a lot of running in the rain too….it’s supposed to keep raining for a few more days but actually the sun came out a little while ago so here’s hoping it dries out a little!

Reply

Looks like you had a fun girls night with your friends! It’s always nice when you can get together with your friends. It’s good for the soul!

Reply

I have a treadmill that I got from ksl recently – in our boring unfinished basement so I watch movies on my laptop. :) I’m not the biggest fan of running in the dark so now that the days are short I’m doing most of my running down there.

Reply

Yes to running in the rain! I don’t know what it is or why, but I do like it.

Reply

I’m not a big treadmill runner…maybe twice a year.
Big yes to running in the rain!
Last food: popcorn:)

Reply

Who has a treadmill at home? Yes.
How often do you use it? Rarely, I hate the treadmill so I only use it as a last resort, usually just to walk.
Which one do you have? I have no idea, something I got off ksl.com for a decent price

Running in the rain—> Yay or Nay? Yes, unless it is a cold/windy rain

What was the last thing that you ate? a super yummy caramel from a local candy shop

Reply

I love to run in the rain. When it’s in the 30s I might bail.
I used to have a treadmill but never used it so I sold it. I mostly run outside but have my gym for emergency treadmill visits.
Last thing I ate was steamed Brussels sprouts dipped in mustard. I know I’m weird. Lol.

Reply

I’m trying to decide which treadmill to buy right now, so I’ll be checking out your comments section for recommendations! The only thibg is that I’d really like to stick close to $1000… I’d rather run outside any day (even in the rain!), but with a new baby and living in New England in wintertime, it’s time!

The last thing I ate was a bite of bolognese on the stove… Taste testing for dinner tonight :)

Reply

Last thing I ate was a Western Omelette – filled with salsa, sour cream, bacon, and cheddar cheese. It was delicious in every way!

Reply

That minestrone looks amazing. I will definitely be adding that to my husband’s “to cook” list.

I don’t have a treadmill, but I do have my bike set up on a trainer and spend a lot of time with Netflix during the winter. After my marathon on Sunday I will be getting back at it – it’s been too long.

I don’t mind running in the rain, but if it’s a mix of snow and rain (with lots of slush on the roads) I prefer to pass.

I just got done eating a bowl of beets. I heard they are great for recovery and blood flow to the muscles.

Reply

The last thing I ate was a half of a sweet potato and an avocado! I am doing the Whole 30 diet and am having a hard time staying away from the Christmas time flavors of Froyo.

Reply

YES to running in the rain. Except just after I get my locs retwisted, cause I don’t want to ruin my hair :(

Reply

Ive only run in the rain once and it was ok except that I had my phone with me. Luckily, I was wearing compression socks so I shoved it in there and that kept it safe until I finished. I don’t mind it, but I’m not a huge fan.

If I didnt have access to a treadmill in my building, then I would definitely want to have one at home. Right now we live in the city, so there’s really no place for one anyway.

Reply

So this is actually the recipe for the soup:http://www.ourbestbites.com/2013/01/veggie-packed-minestrone-soup/

I need your salad in my life. Like now. Where is it from?

I like running in light rain. Downpours. Not so much.

The last thing I ate was chocolate covered cinnamon bears #causeyolo

Hey look. My comment is less than 50 sentences! Go me.

Reply

Dang that picture makes me need a second helping of that soup. With a side of crusty bread of course!

Reply

I think I know where you can find the leftovers :)

Reply

The minestrone photo in Janae’s post looks like there is meat in it? I’d like that version! (Is it just my wishful thinking?)

Reply

Ah yes. You are like me and need meat in soups :) I made the soup according to the directions, but before I added the noodles (I used whole wheat macaroni-i couldn’t find the one they suggested) I added 1lb of spicy Italian ground sausage that I browned in a separate pan while preparing the soup. It added great flavor and more substance to make mah belly full and happy .

Reply

Spicy Italian sausage . . . now you’re speaking my love language.

I LOVE running in the rain – warm rain is my fave! I’d take rain over freezing temps w/ a dose of 30 mph wind. My buff literally froze to my face this morning on my running commute to work.

I do have a treadmill. My husband uses it every night but…I hate it. The only time that I’ll use it is when I have a few miles (generally less than 4) that I want to squeeze in OR when there is black ice covering the roads.

Last thing I ate was a Papitas con Huevos (eggs + hasbrowns + beans with tortillas)

Reply

I love running in the rain! I don’t own a treadmill mostly because I don’t really like to run on it. Props to you…the most I can do is 3 miles!

Reply

I have a treadmill at home and use it all of the time! Love your baby pics!! :)

Reply

I have a pro form treadmill (which I love and made a video of them delivering/assembling, haha!), the last month I’ve barely touched it save for a few runs here/there, but Oct and before (I got it this summer) I’d run on it everyday. I can’t wait to get back in the habit, travel and my wedding totally threw off my mojo.

I’m going to say nay on running in the rain, I’m still in shock from running my last half in torrential downpour….

Last thing I ate: an apple and 27 cheez its. Because if I don’t count out a serving I’d eat the entire box in a day.

Reply

You had SO much hair as a baby, how CUTE!! And I love running in the rain as well. It’s so refreshing every once in a while.

Reply

I never WANT to go run in the rain when I’m dry and cozy inside, but once I get out there, I always enjoy it! There’s something kind of fun about it, and it’s usually really peaceful outside since who wants to be out in the rain??
Last thing I ate…baked ziti!

Reply

That salad looks delish! I have crockpot cream cheese chicken chili in the crock pot and can’t wait to dig in

Reply

Six years ago it was the top of the line Norditrack treadmill. I inherited it. After several moves it now sits in the garage…the last 3 years! I’ve been meaning to sell it but haven’t managed to dust it off yet. I just hate running on the dreadmill. Kudos to those of you who log in miles on them!

I love running in light rain. It makes the Nevada desert smell so good!

Reply

I LOVE running in the summer rain but the winter rain! Winter rain is way too chilly !! It was warm here on Monday too and I wore shorts to the track! I was pretty excited about that!!

Reply

Your salad looks completely amazing, and so does that soup. Off to check out that recipe…

Reply

YES to running in the rain! I can run farther and faster in the rain, its just so refreshing. NO to running in freezing rain though, which I have done a couple of times… not fun!

Reply

that treadmill setup is beautiful! I can’t stand treadmills but I guess having a tv in front makes it slightly better :)

Reply

Last thing I ate… CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZELS! But in desperate need of dinner sooner than later…

I wish I had a treadmill!!! Especially when my only chance to run is mostly at night after the boys are in bed. :( Hopefully I will find a double stroller soon and we can jog together when the weather gets warmer!!!

Reply

You and Brooke look so much alike!

No treadmill for me. Our condo is too small to have two dogs, let alone a treadmill. It’s definitely on my list for when I’m officially a grown-up :)

Reply

I bought a treadmill when I started grad school and it was a sanity-saver for me—where I went to school wasn’t super safe for outdoors running and so every morning I ran out my stress on the treadmill. My husband and I now have it in our back room and it is so great to have, especially when the snow gets up above my knees!
Yes to running in the rain unless it’s below 35 or super windy, which happens a lot here because of the lake effect.

Reply

I have a treadmill and run on it allllll the time. I adore it, for real. It’s my bf’s moms and she essentially just gave it to me!

Reply

I just ran in the rain for the first time this weekend (it doesn’t rain much where I live) – I loved it!

Reply

LOVE running in the rain. I don’t know what it is, but there is just something I really like about it. And currently eating Christmas m&ms…I knew that was a horrible purchase haha.

Reply

I have a treadmill at home and sadly I only use it a handful times a month. I usually go to the gym to run on the treadmill as weird as that is. I love running in the rain, well only when it’s warm out, then it feels refreshing! Last thing I ate was a half a bag of trail mix. It took all of me to not eat the whole thing.

Reply

no treadmill at home (apt WAY too small) but use one at the gym – however i am in love with the elliptical … weird i know. and have been ignoring the treadmill in favor of my new fav.

just started using a gym => came back to running in May and in the fall when the early morning and early afternoon light died i had to find some place safe to get my miles in – so started at a local gym with the treadmill but then decided to do some cross training and tried the elliptical… now i have to make myself do my treadmill workout – still do a long run on the weekend. until it gets too cold – praying we dont have the same kind of winter we had last year (am in the Northeast).

driving to the gym at 545 am now is fine but i cant imagine digging out my car and then going to the gym… ugh.

snowshoes?

Reply

Totally random but I just love you! I love reading your blog (and I don’t read blogs). Finding your blog helped me during the month and a half I was unable to run because of injury and it helps me every day that I feel sad I’ve had to start from zero to get back to running as to not get re-injured. But I’m signed up for the Utah Valley Half in June and having that goal in mind is making all this worth it. You should run it so I can meet you! ;)

Reply

I feel like its been raining all the time here lately! Ive been running in it but I wouldn’t mind a dry run one of these days .
I don’t have a treadmill but I think it would be really great to have one. I would probably never use it, but it would be nice for days when the weather was really bad.

Reply

The last thing I ate was Caramel Cookie Crunch Talenti gelato…. and a lot of it! Ha.

I wish I had a treadmill at my apartment!! Maybe someday :)

Brooke looks just like you did as a little one!

Reply

Running in the rain is OK if it isn’t pouring ng and not too hot or cold!

Reply

Last thing I ate – Gobstoppers and wine (actually I’m currently enjoying both – after dinner treat!!!).
That minestrone looks awesome – I’ve been looking for a good recipe and I think I will try that one.

Reply

If there’s one thing you have to teach me is how you love the treadmill.(coughcoughDREADmill)!

Reply

I have two Pro Form treadmills side-by-side in the basement for the hubs and I to run on. The flatscreen with Dish on the wall in front of it doesn’t make it any less of a dreadmill but when you deal with Wisconsin winters, and the nearest gym is 15 miles away, home treadmill running is the best option this time of year.

We’ve had good luck with the Pro Form’s. One is 10 years old and the other about 3. Both purchased at Sam’s club for about $500-600.

I only run in the rain if I’m caught in it. :)

Last thing I ate: Herbalife smoothie–chocolate with blueberries….and a few oreos for dessert :)

Reply

I think I would actually enjoy having a treadmill, although I’d probably only end up using it a few times a year. I have a bike trainer that I put my road bike on, and I use that every week for almost 6 months of the year!

Reply

In the past I really hated running in the rain…now I just hate it less. If it starts raining lightly when I’m running that isn’t too bad, but if it’s raining before I start running it’s hard to enjoy it.
I get dizzy on the treadmill so I’m more of an elliptical girl :)

Reply

Running in the rain is my favorite. I love warm winters.

I own a True and I love it possibly more than I love my children…some days. ;)

Last thing I ate: cranberry sauce/cool whip surprise. My husband coined the term. We had leftover homemade cranberry sauce and I put some in a bowl and topped it with cool whip. SO good.

Reply

Last thing I ate was Pumpkin Cheesecake…oh yeah.

Reply

Brooke looks so much like you!!! I need that salad in my life ASAP.

Reply

I have a Proform 400 something – I got it at Sam’s club. I use it several times a week, more in the winter, it suits my purpose for now.

I like running in the rain!

The last thing I ate was a salad with kale, chicken and bean salad on top.

Reply

That picture of you as a baby reminds me of when Brooke had spiky hair!

Reply

Yes to rain! I’m hoping to snag a TM on sale after the holidays! As much as I hate it, I dont do super frigid cold icy winter running! Haha

Reply

Treadmill – yes I have a really nice one but only use it when temps get below – 20 celcius…I prefer running outside.

Last thing I ate was a big bag of peanuts and I do not like running in the rain.

The 3 yr old pic of you is gorgeous, such dark eyes and hair!

Reply

Oh that pic of you as a baby with your brother is so SWEET! You were a darling 3 year old too.
I use my treadmill to run 3 days a week and walk 2 or 3 days a week (after my strength training)
that soup looks yummy. I’m going to check it out.

Reply

We have a super old treadmilll, the kind that loses the face plate when you run fast. I don’t even know the brand. When my man partner and I bought our home after renting for a while, this thing made its way into our basement.

There’s something so invigorating about running in the rain, it kind of washes all the “stuff” from the day.

I just ate (a minute ago) a bowl of protein granola w/ a chopped up banana and milk.

Reply

Yes, I treadmill run. It’s actually how I started out with running. I’d go to the gym and pass the time watching people out the window (less creepy than it sounds lol). Finally, I talked the hubs into a treadmill purchase last year and I do really love it. BUT….this year I paired up with another runner and we started meeting once a week to do an outdoor run (which is ALL he does). Anyway, after I made the small transition, I found it SO hard to go back to the treadmill. The weather here is crazy cold right now and I’ve braved a few outdoor runs myself….but soon it’s back on the treadmill.

Reply

Hey Janae!
First comment ever. So i’m running a half marathon this weekend in New Hampshire and it’s predicted to be cold and rainy. I’ve raced in snow before but not cold pouring rain. Any tips for what to wear??

Reply

I have a treadmill at home and it’s awesome when the littles are sick or I can’t hit the trails before work.

Last thing I ate was praline pecan ice cream last night from Rite Aid. it was kind of funny/sad. I went to lick the hubs’ ice cream because it was starting to run and both of our ice creams fell off our cones. I am not the most coordinated person. At least they replaced my ice cream for free.

Reply

I have a treadmill at home in the basement. I use it all the time with 3 kids its a lifesaver. I wish I could run outside more. I love the treadmill setup with the TV right in front! Thats how I catch up on shows. ha!

I like running in light rain when its hot outside. I get cold so easily anymore.

I wish I had a treadmill at home, but no :(
I always intend to run in the rain, but I usually wimp out.
I had eggs and toast for breakfast, but that minestrone soup is going to be on the menu real soon! Yummmmm

no treadmill in my apt, but my apt building has a pretty sweet lil gym that has several, so it’s basically the same thing. not sure where i’d put a treadmill in a NYC apt! yikes. i totally don’t mind running in the rain, unless it’s freezing out and raining. that’s a no. last thing i ate, hmmm….a medifast shake this am aft my workout!

Mmm that minestrone looks delicious!

I lived in the Northwest for a while and love running in the rain but I now live in the Arizona desert so it doesn’t happen much. But this morning I got in a beautiful early morning Rainy! run, it was such a nice way to start the day.

Reply

I have a treadmill at home! It’s a NordicTrack. Totally bought it from someone that never used it, so I didn’t have to pay a million dollars. I love using it on rainy days, the rains here on the east coast get pretty torrential.

The last thing I ate was a clementine! I’m going to make that minestrone soup this week for dinner, It looks delish!

Reply

I have a treadmill at home but I only use it during the summers when it’s WAY too hot to run outside (and I don’t feel like waking up at 4am to beat the heat. ;) I’m in AZ).
We don’t get a lot of rain here so it’s usually pretty nice to run in. It’s raining here today and I’m really excited to get out for a run!!

Reply

I have NordicTrack and love it! I use it all the time. I hate running in the rain, but that’s what the weather is supposed to be for my 5k on Saturday. :/ The last thing I ate was Panera…mmm!
