Ten Tangent Tuesday

1.  Even the horses at the horse races were wearing compression sleeves.  They must have seen how much they help us runners and copied us to help with their recovery after a race.

2.  These eyelashes.  If only.  I would save 50 bucks a month on my fake ones if I had this girls lashes.

IMG 3889

3.  How I attempted to cool down while in Kentucky.  6 minutes with the door open of the gatorade section did the trick.

IMG 3947

4.  My brother introduced me to the Funniest Amazon Product Reviews and I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.  My brother even bought the Mountain Three Wolf Moon t-shirt and sports it all around time after reading these hilarious reviews.

5.  I can’t stop.  I am now sleeping 2 hours less than I normally do because I am so addicted with finding the perfect things to decorate my new apartment with.

I need:

6.  Also found this… not a bad idea:)  I don’t think Brooke and I would ever leave home again if we had this.

7. Brooke had her very first pedicure yesterday:

I am just going to have to live vicariously through my daughter’s cute feet because mine will never be cute again because of running.

8.  Brooke and I already really miss my brother and his family.  This brother of mine has always been so good to me.  He is nine years older than me and has always been super protective of me and when I was growing up he used to take me somewhere fun each week to spend time together.  Usually it was Dairy Queen… my love for ice cream started at a very young age because of him.

9.  Dare you to try this soon.

10.  I agree with all of my heart.

IMG 4009

Bonus:  my last meal in Kentucky was to my SIL’s favorite bbq joint and this salad kept the ‘Kentucky has amazing food’ tradition going strong.  I will miss you Louisville.  You were good to us.

Race horses wear excersise bandages also called polos. They’re to protect their legs from their own feet hitting a leg while running or to provide (very small) amount of support. Horses legs have bone and tendon and blood vessels very close to the skin, unlike us, so they need artificial protection. Bandages come in all sorts of fun colours too!

Baby eyelashes are my weak spot, they are so sweet!

My monday really made me feel like I could use one of those giant cocoons. Couple that with some Netflix and chinese takeout I’d never ever have to leave.

And now I just really want barbecue. Lucky for me I live in Texas and there is a bbq restaurant on EVERY corner.

When I came back from my stress fracture, I spent 3 months running without a watch. It really caused me to not be pace dependent at all. I believe everyone should try it.

It looks like you are having/had (?) a great time in Kentucky. I’ve never been to a horse race before. I think I would probably enjoy it since I do enjoy my gambling…

Brownies DO keep the frownies away!!!
And I love to run free. It usually happens because I forgot my garmin and then I am so happy about it. Lol.
My tangent tues is that i can’t believe the year is half over and it is July 1 today!!!! I remember thinking the winter would never end and now it’s going to be 85 degrees and humid here today. It’s a great reminder that time is truly fleeting. Enjoy every minute.

Reply

Oh how many times have I stood in the freezer section with the door open!

Reply

My tangent is I really can’t believe today is July 1st where has the year gone. I also can’t believe my vacation is half over and now in heading home to spend the remainder of it catching up at home. Ugh…the list of to do’s never ends!

I miss the South! I lived in Georgia for eight years, but never made it to Louisville. I’d love to visit one day though, it looks great!

Reply

I want that moody nest! Also, family is the best. :))). So glad you had a great time and have such a great support system.

Reply

PS-look at this moody nest variation lol – http://www.dezeen.com/2011/08/24/dezeen-screen-moody-nest-by-hanna-emelie-ernsting/

I took my dog on a morning run for the first time every today. It was a good distraction, except I think I ran slower because I kept tripping on him, ha. That bean bag couch is OUT OF CONTROL. I would never ever leave it.

Reply

That is so sweet that your brother took you out for weekly treats! He really is the best brother! I’m also jealous of my sons eyelashes, they are so long and thick! No fair. My tangent- I slept so well last night that I barely moved and now my elbow hurts. Rough problem to have! :)

Reply

Your salad looks SO good!

Reply

Dairy Queen is few and far between here in NY so whenever I would head south (Maryland and Florida to be specific) I always made sure to stop at Dairy Queen for a peanut butter cup blizzard. Miss that!

Reply

That’s a sweet tradition you had with your brother. I come from a large family, and we could have done better with that sort of thing: I feel like I don’t know some of the younger kids that well at all.

Reply

LOVE those funny amazon product reviews. I could entertain myself for hours. And baby/toddler eyelashes are the best. My son’s are thick and dark combined with blond hair, who gets that? Boys of course :)

Reply

Baby eyelashes + baby toes are too much!
What an awesome brother. It seems like you have such amazing/supportive siblings!
My tangent: almost nothing is better than fresh, clean sheets!

Today my parents lost their gorgeous pet dog Annie. She was the cutest and most loving dog I’ve ever known. She was also the most spoilt dog EVER. We will all miss her dearly and I am thinking of my generous loving parents and can’t wait to drive down to see them on the weekend.

Reply

Your bro brought flowers to the airport!! What a sweet guy!

My tangent today is that I think I’m going to have to break my long run up into 8 miles outdoors and 6 miles on the treadmill this week because it’s so hot out. I came up with the 8/6 split based on some very precise runner calculations I did in my head, haha.

Reply

Totally feel you on the not having cute feet! Mine are gross, but I’m proud of them!

Reply

USA IS GOING TO WIN!!!!!!

Reply

I told my friend who said her feet were “a mess” to please pipe down… I don’t even HAVE all ten toenails!!! Haha!!!!

Tangent: it’s 8:21am and I want to eat buffalo chicken for breakfast!!!

Reply

I never run with a watch – I find it really stressful. I just try to push myself and call it a day. I don’t run with music either. I am a simple runner. Except I almost always run in a skirt and I think people think I’m not serious because of that. I just wrote about that in my blog post this morning. It’s a pet peeve of mine.

I always wanted an older brother because I thought it would be fun to have someone to look out for me like older brothers do. I have an older sister though. She looked out for me too. When we were in high school all the boys would offer to drive her home and she’s make them take me too, because she knew how much I hated to ride the bus alone.

Reply

Do running skirts help with the fabric bunching between your legs? Recommend any brands…or shorts that aren’t so bad about that?

Reply

I find that it does help. The skirts I buy all have spandex-like shorts under them and these don’t bunch at all. Sometimes they ride up a little, but nothing that is uncomfortable and the skirt part never gets stuck between my legs. I don’t have a particular brand because I usually get what’s on sale but I have two Under Armor skirts, three New Balance, and a few of the Target brand. They all work great. The two pairs of shorts I have are both the Nike Tempo shorts and they bunch between my legs. I still wear them, but I find it really annoying. I also wear the skirts in the winter over running tights because I like the modesty of having a skirt cover my bum, so I find them useful all year! And I also use them for golf and tennis, although some of the skirts are a bit too short for the golf course.

Reply

This is awesome–thank you so much!!

Reply

Brooke’s pedicure! Too cute!! That is so sweet of your brother to take you out. I always wished I had an older sibling to do things with!

ps go read reviews on “5 pound bag of gummy bears” – so funny!!!

Reply

I want that moody couch- it looks so cozy and amazing!! I’ve often wondered what it would’ve been like to have an older brother!

Reply

My tangent: The railing of my stairs has become a drying rack for clothes. I really need to be like you and start looking around for decorating ideas so I can find a solution to this. :)

Reply

My tangent for Tuesday is that I am SO sick of plantar fasciitis. Seriously. I’ve tried everything to get rid of it, and it’s STILL here.

Reply

I’ve never been to kentucky but would love to visit. Looks like you had a great trip :)

Reply

I’m glad you had such a good time with your brother and his family!

Reply

i bet the KY barbecue was good, but next time you need to head farther south to TN. our barbecue is The. Best. ;)

Reply

You know, I have never been to KT – only driven through it. Glad to hear you had a good time :)
Those lashes! I get extensions, too, and am jealous you only pay $50/mo for a fill! Do you fill them every 4 weeks?

Reply

Today is the DAY when I decided to QUIT worrying. And say, I am fine, just as I am.
(Sorry, if this is too intense but I have to do something, say something to just LET GO.)

Reply

Brooke’s toes…OMG so cute! My feet are permanently ugly due to running…Andrew actually commented yesterday on how disgusting my feet are. He’s a sweetheart, let me tell you…haha.

Reply

My tangent is that I waited too long to get running shoes and my knees are killing me. I’m crossing my fingers it’s not because I’m growing old haha. Plus I don’t want a crazy injury like you’ve had. I’m on the look now, so wish me luck!

Reply

Ohh, now I think I need something with BBQ sauce on it today. That salad looks so good! And that’s sweet that you and your brother have always had such a good relationship. My brother and I were NOT friends until I hit about 16.

Reply

Haha a brownie a day definitely keeps the frownies away! Now I need a brownie asap… :-)

Reply

I so love that brownie picture. – I took a picture and sent it straight to my husband. That is too true.
And tangent for today is that I am so loving my fitbit. I am addicted to it and now have to get 10,000 steps a day.
Have a great day!

Reply

Your brother is so sweet, you are lucky to have him. I’ve only had lash extensions once but they trashed my natural lashes. I about died….did that happen to you? I want to get them again, but am nervous.

Reply

i need that couch. although i dont think i’d ever leave my apt then.
brownie a day keeps the frownies away–hahahaha.
my feet are a disaster too, i used to have such nice feet too :(

Reply

Just got done eating the most delicious doughnut.
Have lunch with a friend later and your picture decided it for me ordering the bbq chicken salad.
Chris and I have a date with the USA soccer game later.

Reply

Ah tiny little pedicure = so cute!!

Reply

The most nest is AWESOME! I secretly want to crawl in it and hybernate all winter! I’m sooo glad that you enjoyed your time in Kentucky!

My tangent today is this…. I don’t mind the heat but the freaking humidity is killing me and my poor hair!

Reply

sounds like you had an amazing trip! maybe you should just move here??

Reply

This week my running gauge will be sweat and breathing. I probably will Only do 3 days this week. I need a break, so I’m going to take it.

Reply

My fingers are dyed blue from tie dying shirts for 8 kiddos yesterday. Running in 90%+ humidity stinks. Water park today, yeah!

Reply

Hahaha I always say “a [several] cookie[s] a day keeps the grumpys away”

Reply

Love that brownie quote! Haha!

Tangent: I so want to curl up with a book instead of actually cleaning my apartment!

Reply

Her eyelashes are amazing! Aren’t big brothers the BEST?! Glad you got to spend time with him!

Reply

I love Brooke’s cute little toes! And that salad looks amazing!

Reply

Where did you get that delicious looking salad?! I’m currently stationed at Fort Knox temporarily and I’m always looking for new places to eat besides Applebees’s and the Asian Buffet :)

Reply

Hey you! It is from Mark’s feed store in Louisville! It is amazing!

Reply

FMW for the win!!! I was chatting with a fellow blogger about ‘ol school cereal. I told her that I ate all the sugary good stuff. Then my mom tried to get us to eat ‘healthy’ and starting buying FMW. But then I would scrape off all the shredded wheat and was left only with the frosted caps! lol…

Reply

Ah, Mark’s Feed Store is delicious! Though I still live in Kentucky, there isn’t a Mark’s around close to where I live now. I grew up eating there quite frequently! :)

Reply

Today my tangent is “OH MY GOD MARATHON TRAINING SCHEDULE MAKES ME SO NERVOUS I MAY PUKE”

…for real. I’m sick to my tummy. Off to lay down now…

Reply

Those were polo wraps, not compression sleeves – but they still come in super fun colors and patterns :) Brooke’s toes are so cute – I’m with you, my toes will never be cute again!

Reply

They are indeed polo wraps, but they do actually have compression suits for horses. :-)

Reply

The wedding I photographed Saturday, Mark’s Feed Store catered it :)

Reply

I love that you and your brother are so close! And that last meal looks delicious!

Reply

My tangent.

So my mom sent me a mean text yesterday ABOUT ME that was meant for someone else. So my tangent, and my advice to everyone is if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all, and CERTAINLY don’t write it down because I just don’t appreciate that one bit.

Reply

Amen!! You are SO right!

Reply

Which BBQ place in Louisville is her favorite? My sister lives there, so I want to make sure we check it out, because that salad looks really tasty :)

Reply

Mark’s feed store! You have to go!

Reply

I have been unplugging lately during my runs and LOVE it. I run at the pace I need to, and walk when I want to take it easy on my joints and just take the morning view in. Brooke’s toes are SO cute! Is it bad that I want the same design on my feet, and I’m 26? No shame at all.

Reply

Made me tear up thinking about my two sons 9 and 6 who just adore their sissy who is now 3. She loves having her prince charmings as we call them.
Actually need to learn to run a new pace. No idea what pace to run training for my first marathon and have no time goal. Wrote my plan out now I’m excited even booked my hotel in November!

Reply

My tangent is that I had my first apricot today and it was absolutely delicious.

Reply

I like to cool off by the fridge too! lol. Love Brook’s lashes! If only my lashes were that long too!

Reply

It is CANADA DAY up north here! Looks like you had a great time in Kentucky!

Reply

Happy Canada Day!

Reply

That bed thing looks amazing. No one that has that could possible leave their house.

Reply

#8 made me smile. Best family! :) That bed is way too dangerous for me to even consider buying ;)

Reply

I want a moody couch! Although I would probably get swallowed up in it :)

Aren’t big brothers the best? My brother and I are super close even though we don’t live in the same city–he’s my best friend! Even though he is the older one, I think I’ve always been just as protective as he is of me :)

And now I really want a brownie.

My tangent: My work is having a viewing party for the USA vs. Belgium soccer game. Soccer is the best team sport. My company is also giving out doritos. I forgot how much I loved them.

Reply

Loved that those horse were wearing compression!!! Speaking of compression used your code for PRO compression, amazing deal!!!

Ps. I’m jealous of Brooke’s eyelashes too!

Reply

I need a brownie now. Also, is that a chocolate chip cookie on top of it? Genius.

Holy cow it is getting humid here in NY! This is my first summer here and I’m dying from the heat/humidity. All anyone keeps telling me is, “just wait until August…” Thank goodness for air conditioning and ice cream! :)

Reply

Pool running! Lol jk I’d use them for running biking and strength training

Reply

It’s Canada Day here!!!!

I’m now craving a brownie. :) Your meals always look so amazing!!!!

Reply

It doesn’t always rain in Seattle as you know. Today it’s 97!!! Big deal around here, hardly anyone has a/c. Kids and I spent quality time at the pool then off to Costco for gelato, froyo, and an icy Pepsi for mom.

P.S. Have you read the reviews on Amazon for Sugar-Free Haribo Gummi Bears?? I didn’t see it on the list. Way ridiculous, but I will never try them!!

Reply

^^ I laughed my ass off all night reading the Sugar Free Haribo Gummi Bears reviews. Freakin so hilarious. It is a must read for anyone that needs a good laugh!

Reply

Yup, Sugar Free Haribo Gummi Bears reviews beat all. Especially for a runner that has been caught short a couple of times…and which runner hasn’t?!

Reply

You are going to have so much fun decorating your apartment. Are you going to let Brooke help out with the decision making for decor? My tangent for the day: I am visiting family and awoke to two tiny kittens (they just got them – names are Russel and Wilson) climbing all over me. Makes for a great start to the day.

Reply

I agree with the brownies :) that salad looks awesome!
