Thank you for the amazing response from those wanting to work with my running coach! We have narrowed it down to 5 people! He will be talking on the phone with them this week and then decide on the final 2. I can’t wait to follow along with their training and watch their progress.
Angela Dilenno, Meghan Moriarty, Caitlyn Edwards, Whitney Kregar and Michelle Jacobsen

Last week’s running!
Monday: 7 miles outside and 4 miles on the treadmill… easy pace but I have no idea how long it took me to finish.
Tuesday: Pump and 4 miles at an 8:20 pace
Wednesday: TRACK WORK!!! Interval workout at indoor gym (5 laps=1 mile). 5 laps, 4 laps, 3 laps, 2 laps, 1 lap with 1-2 minute jogging recovery in between each interval. First mile done in 5:56 and the other intervals were done between the 5:30-5:50 pace.
Thursday: Pump and 4 treadmill miles at an 8:34 pace
Friday: 11.5 miles with 2 x 2 miles at 1/2 marathon pace. First set of 2 miles= 6:23 average pace. Second set of 2 miles= 6:18 average pace. .7 miles recovery jog in between sets.
Saturday: 7 miles at an 8:20 pace
Total 45.5 miles with 7 of them fast and the rest easy. 2 pump classes.

And let’s finish things off with the usual randomness:
Loving having my sister here in California with us this time. Now to convince her family to let her come with us every time.
My friend is in Japan right now and sent me this caption with the below picture:
“Tokyo McDonald’s sells cups of ice cream stuffed with hot apple pie and strawberries. Thought to myself, this is Janae’s kind of dessert.”
Yes, yes it is.
Don’t be too jealous of my 1 a.m. grocery store outfit from last night.
We drove the course of the Nike Women’s 1/2 Marathon yesterday and it reminded me to tell you to DO THAT RACE if you ever get the chance. The scenery is insane.
Not the best picture but hey, I was in a 3 wheeled scooter as I was taking this. This part was the best part of the race for me because you come down the hill and see miles and miles of a beautiful beach. It literally took my breath away.

How did your running go this week? How many miles? What was your best/favorite run of the week?
What race would you recommend everyone to run?

I’m battling an IT band issue right now so marathon training is being moved to other cardio equipment. Totally sucks but sticking with it!
Nice week of runs!
Emma @ Culturecopia
This week was a non-running week for me but I will be starting again now! I’m glad you’re having an awesome time in SF! What a beautiful place!
Lauren
JANAE! You need to tie your shoes!!! It could lead in an epic fall and an injury getting candy!!! (which would be terrible)
The Hungry Runner Girl
Hahahah but kind of funny at the same time! I hope you are having an amazing day!
Alyssa @ See This Girl Run
YAY!!! I’m sooo happy you’re coming to She Runs! It will be such a party :)
The Hungry Runner Girl
I can’t wait to see you!
Gracie (Complicated Day)
Your hair looks fabulous. Off-topic but needed to be said! Good to hear you’ll be racing next month and look forward to following it.
Sarah
Ahhhh that last picture is by my brother’s house!! SF is my favorite city ever! I hope you had a good time :)
My favorite runs this week were the ones I got to do in the morning! I am usually an afternoon runner (it works better with my schedule since I am still a student and too afraid to run in the dark before class…) but I moved my schedule around a little so I got to go first thing in the morning. Sooo nice! I was literally thinking the whole time, “Janae is on to something running crazy early in the morning…” hahahaha. Unfortunately I can’t keep that schedule up. Back to afternoons for me. Booooo… :P
The Hungry Runner Girl
Way to go getting those early runs in! That is so cool that your brother lived there… So beautiful and I hope you get to visit often!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs
I had a great run today — even if it was on a treadmill thanks to winter in Canada :)
Looking forward to more great runs this week!
Sarah
my running was non-existent this week! BUT I am training for a half-marathon so I need to find my motivation again!
meredith @ Cookie ChRUNicles
I really liked the Hershey Park Half Marathon obviously for the serious chocolate and desserts. At mile 12 they throw candy bars at you to grab. How could you not run this race?
Nikki @ will run for pizza
I’m close to PA…you had me at “throw candy bars at you”. I can’t believe I live so close to Hershey, PA and have never been! I think running through the chocolate is what’s up for my first trip there.
Breanna
I did my first ever 20 mile run yesterday. All I can say is wow, that was tough!! I got one thing right and one thing wrong. Right – my outfit. I layered perfectly so I was never too hot or cold. Wrong – fuel. I learned that whatever I think is enough, bring double. Toward the end my pace slowed by almost 2 minutes, and I got frustrated so I turned my Garmin off.
I haven’t run very many races, but my favorite I have done so far is the Long Beach half marathon. I don’t think it’s worth traveling for, but if you’re local or happen to be in Southern California I loved it.
The Hungry Runner Girl
Huge congrats! 20 miles is incredible!
Jackie
Hope you have an amazing reunion with Brooke!
The Hungry Runner Girl
12 more minutes:) thanks so much!
Anne @ CandyCrazedrun.wordpress.com
This week was a wonderful running week for me because after an ankle injury… I got to run! It was also a bit of a wakeup call realizing how much I need to spend more time on my legs after my long run, phew!
I absolutely recommend the Gate River Run in Jacksonville, FL. Not only is the course support fabulous, but it is the USA 15k Championships, and so much fun to watch the elites warm up!
The Hungry Runner Girl
I am so happy that your ankle is better and that you got to run wahooooo!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan
My running went really well this week considering our crazy weather and my work schedule. I just started the first week of training for my next half marathon. 12 miles this week.
My favorite run this week would be today’s mini long run (5.3 miles) because I felt like I could just keep going forever. I didn’t, because I don’t want to get injured trying to do too much, too soon. I really need to build up my mileage base.
The Hungry Runner Girl
I love runs that feel like that and good job on being smart about your training!
Losing Lindy
I wish my grocery store had a candy section like that
Whitney Kregar
To say I am excited is a gross understatement! I may or may not have done a dance during Sunday School.
For running recap. I did about 15 miles with a long 8 yesterday that included hanging signs for a 5k then running the 5k in 25+ mph winds. Thanks Kansas. I’m convinced that every mile into the wind should count as two. Finished up with a two mile recovery. Today’s my rest day and the weather is perfect. You can’t win in this state..
Allison
My runs were all over the place this week from easy runs with my dog, to a track meet, to a long run.
Worst run = Mile track meet at the indoor track. The air is so thick and I feel like I am wheezing and can’t breathe by the end. This week I wanted to break a 6 minute mile and I wound up with 6:00:09….I was so frustrated!! I wish I could do a 5:56 like you!!
Best run = My 17 mile long run today. It was really snowy today and the route was super hilly. It began with 1,700 feet of elevation change in the first 4 or 5 miles and just kept rolling from there. I felt great though. I never question the long run anymore…just the speed work.
My mileage total for the week was 44.
Kay
I think you’d love Japan either way – but yes definitely the food!! Especially the sweets/desserts, Japan is amazing!!
Leigha @ Minougirl
You amaze me so much at how fast you are!! Best run was probably yesterday – 10k! And omg I need to go to a Japan mcdonalds. Or maybe just tell my mcd’s to start serving that!!
julia
This was a good week! Got about 45km total in this week. My favorite runs are the easy ones with my dog. Getting back into hills this week and looking forward to it. Also am getting back into circuit workouts and played 1 hour of full court 3 on 3 ladies basketball. That was a great and fun workout!
Found out this week that I’m running Leg 4 for the Cabot Trail Relay Race (which is the race I think EVERYONE should run!) and also found out my sister got a leg on our team as well. So pumped.
Megan @ Meg Go Run
Oh Janae, on our first morning in San Fran we ate breakfast at The Cliff House- in your picture. It has the most gorgeous views of the Pacific! It was actually my first time ever seeing the Pacific Ocean and we were in awe…
The Hungry Runner Girl
I want to eat there so so bad!
Kristina @ Blog About Running
San Fran is so beautiful. I live a mile from Fort Lauderdale beach and loooove it but the beaches in California are spectacular.
I am training for my second half marathon right now (I did my first one in Nov last year). I ran 11 miles yesterday and did it 30 minutes faster than when I did it training for my first half last year! Whaaat :)
Missy @ mileswithmissy
Eek I just pre-ordered those shoes and I cannot wait to try them!
I highly, highly recommend everyone come to MN and run Grandma’s Marathon in June! It’s a point-to-point course along the shores of Lake Superior. I have also heard great things about the Twin Cities Marathon, which I will run in October!
Rianne
Loved Twin Cities Marathon!!! Can’t remember what year it was but weather was gorgeous and the trees were beautiful.
Kay
haha you can’t be bothered to tie your shoes when theres candy involved! love it
Jessica
I had to show my husband the picture from McDonald’s. He makes that on his own anytime we get ice cream there (minus the strawberries). He always asks if they will use the McFlurry machine to blend the apple pies and ice cream together…and every once in a while someone will do it :)
Heather
My best run was today. My first 5 miler since before I was pregnant with my now 9 month old! It was one of those runs that reminds you why you love running so much :) it’s taken me awhile to get back into running post baby but I’m all in now. I’m doing the Nike Women’s half this April in DC! I’m very excited, it will be my second half.
Lily
I stopped running as of last Monday because I have PF in my left heel. I am sad and hope it goes away soon. :(
I recommend running Bryce Canyon half (UT) beautiful beautiful race!
Kristi
I ran 20 miles this week, which is the most I’ve ran. I could’ve gotten a few more miles in, but wanted to work on my house instead. Maybe this week I’ll do better.
Beth @ Miles and Trials
I ran the Nike Women’s Full Marathon last October and it was amazing. Highly recommend it. I also recommend the Arizona Rock n Roll half marathon because I just ran it this morning and had a great race, ran 3 minutes faster than I had hoped. I love it when that happens!
Hayley in Training
I also ran the Full last October, but there were no views to speak of haha! Foggy foggy!
Liz @ Carpe Diem and Run
Awesome runs!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun
Running went great! I am still coming back from a stress fracture but worked it up to 24 miles this week and felt great. Did some arc trainer recovery today and I am ready to tackle a new week!
Nikki
Thinking about you and Brookers today!
Kathee
Such pretty hair. That’s “date night hair” for me! I must be doing it harder instead of smarter.
Low mileage this week related to a pain in my foot. 10 miles tomorrow.
San Fran is my favorite place to run!!! I miss it!
Susan
I would love to run my first 1/2 marathon this year, but because I live in Canada I am pretty limited. My option next month is to run the hypothermia half…not my idea of a fun time. I am jealous of all your races and the fun places you get to visit. When my young family gets a little older my options might broaden.
Hayley in Training
Welllll a note on the Nike women’s half marathon- depending on what season you do it, it could be super super foggy. I did the full on October 20th and, unless the half and full are very different, it was nothing but fog! I could tell that we were in areas where it should have been beautiful views… But there were none.
Kelly
I had a few outdoor runs last week and loved them all :)
Victoria @Smiles 'n' Snuggles
I would recommend.the Niagara Falls half (nice and flat, right along the river and ending right at the falls) or marathon (starting in New York and ending in Canada). It was awesome! It’s at the end of October too so the weather and scenery are really great too!
I’m running the Nike half in Washington in April and I’m really quite excited! Sightseeing and running, what could be better.
Livi
my long run today was awesome! towards the beginning I wanted to stop but I pushed through and finished strong!
Lauren @Will Run for Boston
I had a blast at my 10K yesterday morning. My mileage has been slowly increasing for Boston Marathon training – 64 miles this week! I have been hungry ALL. the. time. – I don’t know what I’m going to do when I get up to 80!
Allie @ Allie Go Running
Mileage for the week was 32.5! The most I have ever done in 1 week, yay!
Lis @ 26.2x2
Ran 21 miles this week – race that I would recommend people run? The Newport Marathon and Half marathon in Newport, RI. It’s an absolutely gorgeous run set against the ocean with a beautiful backdrop of Newport Mansions and (my alma mater) Salve Regina University! I’ve yet to find a better race.
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust
The candy aisle at 1am = pretty amazing. I love being an adult and being able to get away with that. Cupcake for breakfast? Yes, please.
I would recommend the Eugene Marathon here in Oregon. It’s a fast course, scenic along the river, full of spectators, and you finish on the track where running legends have competed. It’s awesome!
ashley @ Broc Blog
I had a really good long run this week and I haven’t run many races yet but I’m doing one next month called the Seaside Half Marathon and Im guessing it’s going to be lovely because “seaside” is part of the title.
charlie
I did my first longish run of my marathon training cycle for the Paris Marathon. We ran 10 miles, plus I ran 2 x 5 milers and a 30 minute treadmill interval workout this week. Need to start going back to Body Pump too!
autismmum
The race I’d recommend is Sydney’s bridge run. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is closed and the runners get to run over it. Its pretty awesome! You are lucky to have such a fantastic relationship with your sister. I’d love to have a sister.
Kari @ Running Ricig
I think I ran 30 miles last week, which is basically where I’m capping my pregnancy miles. All of my runs were pretty great and most of them outside which is impressive since I’m currently in love with my treadmill.
The Hartford Marathon is a pretty great race. The scenery isn’t anything spectacular, but the organization and crowd support are awesome!
Elizabeth @ Positive Change
Great workouts this week! I am in marathon recovery mode, so I did 8 miles this week. Starting, 1/2 marathon wanna get a new PR training today!
A Disney race all the way!! They put on some of the best!
Shelly
You should try out the Berkeley Half this November. It’s pretty flat, but it’s perfect for a fast PR. Also, the race is very organized, and there are a ton of post-race activities to take part in (beer garden and massages, anyone?)
[email protected]
I wish I had the dedication that you did towards running. I always set out with the best intentions and then other plans get in the way of me getting all the miles in. Where does your motivation come from? How are you able to get up and get them in?
Leah @ Running with the Hayneses
44.5 miles this week, with a 20.5 mile mid-week long run at night in the pouring rain! Yeah, don’t ask. :)
[email protected]
I ran 55 last week..best run: progressive run on Friday. I love progressive runs!! Worst run- 20 miles on the treadmill. I did well..but it was 20 miles….. on. a. treadmill.
Blech.
I would recommend Baystate marathon for an easy pr course…so flat and it’s during the fall so it’s always beautiful weather!
For excitement…I’d recommend Boston..there is NOTHING like the energy of the Boston course, absolutely nothing!
Takako
Hi! Fan from Japan here – I’ve been following your posts since last year and find your running and all kinds of stories very inspirational. Found the word Japan mentioned on your blog so wanted to leave a comment to say that there are more Janae’s kind of food here!
One of my favorite races I did was the San Diego holiday marathon!
Jessica M.
I love that Friday workout! To get me through long runs on the treadmill I’ve been doing a warm up and then 3 mins at marathon pace with 1 min rest in between. You have to do 20 or so of them (I always lose count) but it’s a good workout. I saw it in Runners World.
Lindsay
Ran my first marathon on Sunday, RnRAZ! So obviously my most favorite run so far! :) I’d definitely recommend it to others! Cant beat AZ weather in Jan.
Alyx
Trying to convince my roommate to come with me to She Runs.. Pretty unsuccessful, but cross your fingers :)
My running has been seriously lacking since school just started & I’m already overwhelmed. I love the mile recaps you started writing because they’re helping me with my running/how much to run a lot! Thank you!
I love the See Jane Run 5K/Half Marathon in Alameda. It was my first race ever & it goes right along the water in Alameda. So gorgeous!
Christina
That last picture you posted? That is the restaurant I got engaged in! Love it there. Love SF in general really.
Niki
So glad your sister got to go with you. Sister time is important!
