What I miss most…

Don’t act like you don’t hold your arms up in the air when you are trying to get your Garmin to locate the satellites.  It really speeds up the process and when my sister got up on her tip toes it loaded even faster.  Science.

One of the things that I miss the most about living in Utah are Saturday (and everyday) runs with my sister.  I have ran with her since I was 12 years old so it is kind of our thing.

IMG 9043

Like the other times that I come back to visit and try to run the altitude absolutely killed me.  It was brutal.

We came home and got the kids all ready for my niece and nephew’s last soccer game of the season.

DSC 1961

I was so tempted to steal some of the capri suns and fruit roll-ups after the game but I guess they were for ‘the team.’

DSC 1965

If my sister wrote a blog I think it would be pretty identical to mine because we have all of the same interests.

She wanted to go to Costco.  Brooke was excited to have a cart buddy.

Below blurry photo courtesy of my sister.

A friend since the SEVENTH GRADE called me as we were driving to Costco (she lives in S. Utah so I haven’t seen her in forever) and is just in town for another day.  She was on her way to Costco too.

It was heaven to finally see her and meet her little one.   We met at 7th grade basketball try-outs.  She made the team and I didn’t make it past the pre-first cuts.

DSC 1971

Our lunch was entirely made up of samples from Costco yesterday (along with toast when we got home).  It was out of control.  I swear they had at least 17 different samples yesterday.

Nap.  I am in full vacation mode (okay, my life is full vacation mode) and napped with brooke for 90 minutes.  wow.

For dinner the sister made us a delicious chicken/bean/corn/feta cheese/salsa meal and it hit the spot.

Park time followed and Curly chased me around with her pink wand.

And reason #2466231 my sister is the best:

Graham Canyon hanging out in her freezer for me to eat while I am here.

How many sisters do you have?  Are you similar or very different?

Did you ever try out for a sports team in Jr. High or High School and get cut?

How long does your garmin/gps take to turn on/load satellites?

What was the last meal that somebody else made for you?  What did they make?

I have two sisters and we are ALL extremely different from one another. We even all look different.

I hate waiting for my Garmin to load… the 10 seems to take a lot longer than my 305 ever did.

Reply

My 10 takes FOREVER! Honestly 10 minutes sometimes. 10 takes 10? But since I’m doing Cori’s challenge I’m not needing it as much ;)

My grandmother is visiting this weekend – so yesterday the family sat on the patio having sandwiches and drink wine. It was wonderful. My brother’s girlfriend met my very glitzy, over-the-top Nana at lunch yesterday and now she definitely knows what she got herself into with this fam!

I don’t have a Garmin yet but hopefully I get one for my birthday in a few weeks. :) Any suggestions on the best version…I do like the colors of the Forerunner though!

Reply

I have an older sister too and we moved away when Brooklyn was 2 months . My sister and I use to run together all the time and I miss her so freakin much!

Reply

My mom and I are basically the same person but I sometimes wish my brother and I were close like you and your sister are! At least I know there will be my favorite ice cream (oreo) in the freezer when I get home in a couple weeks! I never wear my garmin because the satellites take so long to load. That’s one thing they could work on to improve them- mine takes forever and I’d rather just go for a run without it!

Reply

My little sister and I get along, but her twin, my brother, and I are basically the exact same person!

Reply

I have no sisters but one brother who I wouldn’t trade for the world!

In middle school, I tried out for volleyball…only two people got cut, and I was one of them! Needless to say, I recovered from the disappointment.

Last night, my boyfriend made me scallops, sweet potatoes and green beans. Then we sat by the fire and roasted marshmallows. It was perfect!

My sister and I are similar with food and shopping. We also have taken some long weekends to places like Austin, Atlanta, Chicago and vacation perfectly together when it’s a few days in the city.
The whole running, hiking, workout out is a major difference, and she is much more creative, crafty etc.

Last meal someone made for me, homemade pizza.

I have 6 sisters ( 4 step, 1 half, 1 real). My real sister & I are a lot a like. The rest of us are drastically different)

I haven’t used my garmin in forever, but it takes forever. I usually set it on the windowsill while I’m getting my shoes on.

I played softball my freshman year of HS, but hated it.

My husband is cooking me breakfast right now. bacon, eggs & biscuits! get in my bellay!

Reply

My sister is my best friend. I’m so glad she lives nearby! She would never go run with me, but if I need someone to hike with then she’s my girl.

Reply

I have an older sister 2 years older than me and she is the GREATEST AND THE BEST!! she lives in NYC and I don’t get to see her much : (

I only ever did cross country, track, and swimming in high school which were no cut sports!!

Sometimes my nike finds gps in .5 seconds … and that is when I know it will be a good run :) other times after 10 mins i finally give up and just use the old fashion stop watch!! so frustrating!! haha — oh and holding the watch up a couple inches closer to the sky TOTALLY helps connect faster. I am a firm believer.

No one (aside from a restuarnt) has cooked me dinner in FOREVER!!! i want a home cooked meal so badly! —Salmon with asparagus : )

Nice, relaxing family time = great vacation! I have one sister (and three brothers), and we definitely have a lot of the same interests, even though she’s 13 years older than me. We both run, are enthusiastic yogis, plus we just enjoy being awesome together. :)

Have a lovely Sunday!

Reply

No sisters and no daughters, so I’m kind of bummed; however, I do have a couple of friends that I make be my sisters! :-) They have no choice!

I noticed that your ice cream was from the BYU Creamery. We used to buy ice cream by the gallons at the USU Dairy when my husband was in grad school there. It was heavenly!!!

Reply

My watch loading time really depends on the day, sometimes it takes a few seconds and sometimes it takes 5 minutes.

Reply

I have two sisters, but we seem to have very different interests! Boo! We do like to do a few things together, but we just don’t have “it” I suppose you would cal it! I actually tried out for JV Volleyball..now mind you, I’m spherically challenged. I have no hand eye coordination, and I must say, I’m kind of happy I got cut haha! I’m even happier that I actually made it to the final days of cuts before I did in fact get cut ;) Go me?! Lol!

Reply

I have 3 sisters. We are all fairly different in what we like and do but we all look a lot alike, are close in age, and act like complete fools when we are together. I love sisters.

Reply

I have one older sister, and we are completely different except for a bit of commonality. My little girl has brought us closer though, and that’s a beautiful surprise.

Reply

I have one sister…we are complete opposites and people never believe us when we say we’re related! We were never close growing up, but since I moved away from her five years ago (she’s in Canada and I’m all the way over here in Australia), we’ve gotten much closer. I guess absence really does make the heart grow fonder!

Reply

I have one sister and we are very similar in some ways…we both love to run, but really different in other ways….our personalities are pretty different. I’m the bossy older sister! ;) Love her so much, though!

Reply

I have two sisters and a brother. My older sister by 3 years is my BFF! We work together at the hospital, we run together, we do EVERYTHING together! My younger sister is awesome too. She is 3 years younger then myself and Baby bro is 10 years younger then my younger sis. He works at the hospital too. We all have about the same personality! Love Love my siblings!
I tried out for cheerleading in the 8th grade and was denied.. Awe Man. The instructor said I wasn’t loud enough…well yeah I was totally nervous in the empty cafeteria of 5 teachers staring at me why I attempt a cheer. Haha Oh well It was for the best… I later became a Gymnast in 9th grade.
I have an iPhone and no issues getting GPS, but I am looking for a watch. Just need to commit and buy!
The last meal someone else made me was my sister… Chicken Tortilla Soup. YUM!

Hahaha – I was totally standing in the middle of my small street with my arm up in the air trying to locate the satellites yesterday. Neighbours must think I’m weird or something. I live in a spot that has poor cell service (my area was a rock quarry and we live right beside a small rock wall which I swear screws up cell service).

Reply

My sister and I are only 16 months apart and have always been best friends! We are complete opposites and both married people like each other (her husband is a lot like me and mine is a lot like her!)

Reply

I got cut from both the basketball and volleyball teams…but I owned on the soccer team and was captain of the field hockey team by my last year of high school. Apparently, my sports skills only applies to outdoor sports?

I don’t have a sister, but I do have a brother whose pretty awesome. And we have a ton in common!

Costco samples = the best part. I’m heading there this afternoon and of course, will be digging in ;-)

Reply

I miss my sister! She moved to Chicago and is no longer in driving distance from New Orleans like she was in Atlanta. But at least we still both have airports in our cities to make traveling easier.

Reply

Ah you look like you’re having an absolute blast! (PS. A 90-minute nap sounds heavenly.)

I have a little sister who’s 7.5 years younger than I am. I’d say that in interests, we’re pretty similar, but in terms of personality, we’re soooo different. I like being organized and having plans, but I’m pretty laid back. She’s the complete opposite–she never has a plan but is always so high strung. Maybe if she made plans she’d be more relaxed! :P

Reply

I have one sister and we are very similar and very close. When we were growing up, we weren’t because she is five years older than me and I was that “annoying little sister,” but now that we are older and live in the same city, she is my best friend. She is also my best running buddy, but she just tore her ACL =(.

Someone made me carrot cake for my birthday last weekend – from scratch!! It was both impressive and delicious!

I have the Garmin 610 and it picks up satellites SO quickly!

Reply

I don’t have any sisters :( Well, unless you count my sorority sisters… haha but nope, just two brothers for me! And I live in a 5 story apartment building, so for my garmin I stick it in the window and let it find the satellite while I get ready and then when I’m ready to go I grab it and run down the stairs and outside as quickly as I can so it doesn’t lose signal in the stairwell! It always works!

Reply

I have 3 sisters and 5 sister in-laws. I’m close with them all and I’m very similar to my sisters and a couple of my SIL’s. I feel very lucky! Looks like your soaking up all the gorgeous weather here in UT and family time, love it!

Reply

My Garmin 405 has always been pretty fast at getting satellites. No siblings for me :(

Reply

Aw what a lovely family vacation!
I have NO sisters! Two brothers, who are awesome. But I always wanted a sister. I think at 27 years old I have finally accepted it’s not in the cards for me and I’ve moved on. Maybe in my next life. ;)
My Garmin takes FOREVER to load. But the joy of knowing your running stats is worth the wait.

Reply

Love Costco! Tip: I always turn on my Garmin and set it outside like 5 min before I wanna run so its all loaded up when I’m ready to go!

Reply

Graham cracker ice cream?! That sounds amazing. So jealous! I have a younger sister. We fought like crazy growing up, but now we’re really close. I’m so glad my girls have each other!

Reply

I don’t have any sisters, but my mom has 5 sisters, and they are all really different. The youngest two are into running so now when I see them we have something to talk about!

Who doesn’t love costco?? And, I can’t believe you had to try out for 7th grade basketball, in our school everyone got to play until about 10th grade, and even then, you could play, it just might be on a different team depending on skill.

Reply

I don’t have any sisters, but I have a brother and we are pretty close. I think it’s so cool that you and your sister are so close.

I do have a Garmin, and it takes forever to load! I walk around aimlessly until it finally loads. :)

The last meal someone actually made me was some authentic Chinese food. Some Chinese students made me and my friends dinner on Friday night, and it was so good!

Reply

hi janae!! i’m an only child so i don’t have a sister wahhh :( but that’s ok. i’m in a sorority and i LOVE my kappa sisters! haha not quite the same, i know. me and another kappa sister when to costco yesterday for our CINCO DE MAYO kickball tourney today!! we’re serving walking tacos and using the donations to buy books and support volunteers at the local elementary school. I’m so excited!!

the only downside is i woke up too late to workout… this first week back after the half has had me fallen off the workout wagon. but today is starting me hopping back on. i’m posting here so i feel like i have to stick to it since i told your blog! i’m getting back on my usual healthy train of eating and going to spend some quality time on the elliptical and core work. then next week is Tina Reale’s best body bootcamp! i took some time off because of the half but i’m back, baby!!!

Graham Canyon?? What?! I need that in my life, like now. I think I need to make a trip down to the creamery to get me some. Looks like such a fun day with the family. How I have missed Curly and your other nieces and nephew on the blog.

I have 2 sisters. I am like my older sister in that we both have very ‘dominant’ personalities, my little sister avoids confrontation at all costs and is a total people pleaser. But my older sister is never goofy or silly like my little sister and I. Probably some of my weirdest/spazziest memories are with her.

Ross made shami kabobs on Wednesday and I made pita bread and the toppings for them. It was a delicious meal.

I tried out for the softball team in jr high. Not sure why. I was very aware that I sucked. My older sister was on the team (another way we are different, she was very good at sports and I was not) and she was mortified that I tried out. Gotta love those awkward years,

Reply

I have no sisters:(, but I have a cousin who is like my sister. We grew up doing everything together and she is my running buddy. Sucks that both our husbands jobs moved us out of Texas. I’m meeting up with her in October to run MCM! My garmin 610 is pretty speedy, I’ve only had to hold it up in the air once or twice. And I totally agree that method is science! My hubby was the last person to cook for me yesterday. I came home from my long run and he had grilled chicken and white rice ready. Plus a tasty chocolate ice cream recovery shake :)

Reply

I have two sisters. The middle one is different but the youngest one and I are similar personality wise! We used to fight like crazy but not living in the same house has made us a lot closer :-)

Reply

I wish I had a sister. Ohhh my gosh I need some Graham Canyon. Pronto. I also need to go to a costco. Never been to one!

Reply

My sister and I could not be more different. Total opposites! My garmin usually taks a minute but every now and then it takes forever and I hold my hand up like a fool too :)

Reply

My sister and I are BEST friends. She’s 3 years younger than me but we’re almost the same size so we share clothes and shoes. Perks of being in high school and still living at home! ;) We’re different but we have a connection!

Reply

My sister and I are complete opposites—appearance, interests, and personality. We have a blast together and talk/text daily. I really miss her a lot and need to schedule a trip home ASAP. (It’s only been 2 weeks since we were last together!)

This post totally made me miss my sister! She actually just moved to Utah (although we didn’t live in the same state before now either). My sis and I are the same in a lot of ways and different in others.

Reply

Oh my gosh, graham canyon is the best!!!! My all-time favorite ice cream.

Reply

My sister is 16 months younger than me. People close to us say we are a lot different, but people who meet us for the first time always can tell we are sisters. She is a brunette and I am blonde, but our body types are the same.

My Nike+ GPS is always quick to find satellites, haven’t had to wait more than a few seconds.

My boyfriend just made me banana chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast, my request of course!

Reply

I have one sister and she is the absolute best thing on the planet. We just got home from a run together this morning which as become a weekend ritual for us. It’s funny because there are 7 years between us, but we have always been best friends. I have the Garmin 10 which I switched to from one of the gigantic ones my husband got me. I swear that little 10 takes longer to load than the mammoth one that took up my entire wrist. The only time I don’t have to wait for it to load is when it is freshly charged.

We’ve been getting lots of meals made for us recently, since the baby arrived. Our friends from church have been bringing us dinners, which is a huge blessing. Last night was chicken enchiladas and they were really yummy!

Reply

Two sisters, and my parents say the baby (15 years younger!) got all my worst traits, hah. All 3 of us unmistakably look like sisters though.

I was never cut from a sports team, but I was cut from the Math Team. I’m not sure if it’s worse that I got cut or that I wanted on in the first place!

Reply

Your sisters older daughter (I am guessing that is who that is…with the brown hair :) ) looks just like Brooke!!! Did she look identical to her when she was young?
I have 2 sisters and we are nothing alike! I am the oldest.
I was cut from my high school basketball team my junior year. It was a very good team and I was just not awesome at it but I worked so hard! My coach was very nice (although at the time I did not think so) and said he would like to keep me on the team because I made others work hard in practice but he thought I would be a much better runner. He told me from the practices ect he thought I should try running and so began my running career :). I went out for track and ended up being the captain my senior year and going to state in cross country my senior year.

Reply

I have two sisters but we are all completely different!

I have one sissy and she’s my best friend! We share a few similar interests, but for the most part, we’re kind of different. We have a very similar sense of humor (for the most part). I have a lot more patience than she does though… she got her patience from my father. I got cut (after being hurt) from my volleyball team Junior year of high school. I was devastated, but obviously, life goes on and I survived. Last night, a friend of a friend made these DELICIOUS veggie kabobs. Oh my gosh, they were amazing and I will be making some at my next grillout.

Reply

I’m so jealous! Graham Canyon is hands down my favorite ice cream! Have fun!

Reply

I have a younger brother :) So glad you have this time with your family! Brooke looks so happy in UT! Well, she honestly looks like a VERY happy baby regardless!

Reply

I’m very old school with my Garmin 205 (it’s actually not even mine, I “borrowed” it from my dad). It’s quite good at loading satellites though. Holding your arm high definitely works!

I have one sister. We’re so similar even though there’s 10 years between us. I miss her so much when I’m travelling :(

Reply

I have two older sisters and we’re all very similar (yet also different in a lot of ways, but mostly similar).

I have a Garmin Forerunner 410 and it takes forever to load on most days. Ugh!

I tried out for the volleyball team in high school and got cut. But I was on the track team so it all worked out. Yay for running!

LOVE COSTCO!!

I have 3 sisters 1 brother. I am the only child from my mom and dad. My sister I was raised with and I are in business together. We became mommys together. We run. She is my best friend.

Reply

I have 0 sisters! Just 2 younger bros. I always wanted a sister though and when we were all kids I used to make my younger brothers wear dresses and pretend to be my sisters, ha ha. (No wonder they’re so well-adjusted now)

Reply

Cuteness… I’ve missed all the pics of the little nieces and nephew, though soon i suppose I won’t be able to call them that! I’ve been reading your blog for a long time and somehow never noticed that they were growing up at all until you moved away and there were months between pics of them. Curly has to be one of the cutest children on the face of the planet. Does anyone call her by her real name or does everyone just call her ‘Curly’?

I have 3 sisters and they are the BEST. When I was a kid I wanted to be an only child, but now that we’re all grown up I am so so thankful for them!! We are all very alike in some ways and different in others. We definitely have individual personalities, but we also do weird stuff like we’ll come home for Christmas and realize that somehow even though we were half a country apart (and Canada is a BIG country!), we managed to buy 10 items of clothing & shoes that are identical! I think it’s a sister thing ;)

Reply

Costco samples were THE BEST EVER this week!!! It took us basically until the 20th sample of delicious Mexican food to realized that this was because it’s Cinco de Mayo week!! :) So. Lesson learned: go to Costco right before holidays. They will have the best/most samples. It was basically heaven!

Looks like you’re having a great time. I have 4 sisters (and one brother) but only one is near to my age. As adults we enjoy spending time together. Most of the time we had fun together as kids but I also hated when she would follow me around when I didn’t want her there.

Reply

I have the garmin610 and for the most part it picks up a satellite under 20 seconds.

I don’t have any sisters. I have one brother and we are complete opposites.

Not in Jr High. I was on the track team in HS though!

The last meal someone made for me was today. The fantastically talented chefs at my favorite Mexican restaurant made me a perfect chile relleno and a fish taco. It was heaven.

Every morning I hold my arm up to the sky, knowing that my Garmin will connect a little faster. (Hah!) Hope you are loving Utah! I am going in two weeks and I can’t wait to run the canyons.

ah i am more excited to go home for my visit now. i can’t wait to see my family:) i have 2 sisters and a brother. we’re all sarcastic but other than that we have very different personalities. i LOVE em for it!
i played basketball. never got cut, but quite my second year. couldn’t stand the coaches playing favorites. (it wasn’t me).
my garmin is usually pretty quick cause i mostly leave from my house and i guess it remembers that.
i didn’t know byu made their own ice cream. YUM!

I jump up and down and climb up on railings to try to get my Garmin to tell me it’s ok to start! I don’t have any sisters :(
But I love my brothers to pieces!! :)

I have an older sister and we are fairly similar. She’s a lot fancier than I am, though.

My garmin used to take FOREVER to load, but then I got a new one and it’s working better. I think I’m one of those people whose body chemistry messes with watches. They will work fine for a while and then just go bonkers and never work again.

I have one sister who is only 22 months older than me, and we are similar in many ways and different in others! I love her so much, and she is my very best friend.

My school was so tiny (graduated in a class of 32) that you were never cut because we barely had enough to even play – I played basketball, and we only had basketball (boys + girls), softball and baseball!

On cloudy days, it can take forever for my Garmin to locate satellites!

Reply

What a fun day!

Omg that ice cream sounds amazing!!!

Reply

I am an only child, so no sisters for me. :(

I was never cut from a sport. I have to imaging that would be completely devastating to a teenage girl.

My Garmin used to pick up the satellites super quick. I just started using a Nike+ Sportwatch and the first time it took FOREVER to connect but since then it’s been connected really fast.

I can’t remember the last time someone cooked for me! Isn’t that just so sad? :(

Reply

I have 2 much, much older brothers. I grew up as an nly child because they were way out of the house since I can remember.

I have one older sister, and this makes me miss her so much. She’s flying to see me (ok, my mom) this weekend so we’ll be reunited! :D

I have one sister and we live together so we are pretty much together all the time. it’s great! My GPS (Garmin 210S) sucks at finding satellites!! Well, it sucks most of the time, and especially when I don’t use it for a little bit of time.

Reply

My garmin can take anywhere from 30secs to almost 2mins to get satellites! I’m the most impatient person ever, so you can imagine how excruciating 30secs can be haha
