Gotta start them young.

I really don’t think it is ever TOO early to start baking cookies together with your daughter. Brooker did an amazing job mixing the dough. (In case you were wondering, I did not eat any dough in front of her ((I went in the other room to eat it)) because that would just be cruel).

I wanted to make a cookie that would be perfect for ice cream sandwiches and I did it. I didn’t want them very thick but I did want them extra chewy.

Best Ice-Cream Cookie Sandwich Cookies:

1 cup sugar

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup vegetable oil

Cream the above ingredients together and then add 2 eggs and mix and then add the rest of the ingredients.

3 1/4 cups unpacked flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

3/4 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 bag white chocolate chips and 1/2 bag milk chocolate chips (I did a few with semi-sweet chocolate chips because my friends are crazy and think that those belong in cookies?!?)

350 degrees for 9ish minutes

Makes about 40 cookies

Bangs Friend did something for me that I will owe her for for the rest of my life.

She made me my mom’s lasagna.

My mom has made her lasagna for me for my birthday every single year of my life and this was the first year that I was away from her and didn’t partake in her lasagna. Bangs made it so that I wouldn’t have to miss out.

I felt like I was at my mom’s kitchen table in Utah eating my favorite noodle/meat/cheese combination. It was the best way to end my birthday week celebration.

You really must make these cookie sandwiches. If you do make them you HAVE to use vanilla bean ice-cream because that made them extra amazing.

We do have the day off today so it’s a pajama play day for my kids. Lots of cuddling and board games for us and I’ll try to squeeze a treadmill workout in somewhere.

Lasagna is one of my favorite foods…..please share :)

Reply

Those cookies look amazing! I would LOVE the lasagna recipe. Lasagna is a top ten food of mine! French vanilla coffee, vanilla bean ice cream!

Every day is an off day when you are a stay at home mommy (actually no it’s not haha). We are meeting up with some friends for a play date and then getting my car inspected. Be jealous! I choose vanilla bean… Please ship me an ice cream sandwich, it looks divine! You and Bangs are so cute… and so is Brooke :-)

Oh man HOMEMADE ice cream sandwiches made with chocolate chip cookies and lasagna has me drooling and I haven’t even gotten out of bed yet today. Especially since they’re made with love by Brooke. Those cookies look super easy, too. I’ll be making them soon for sure. With the ice cream, of course. I bet they would taste really good with caramel ice cream too! And I think you should share that lasagna recipe. I’m feeling an italian night coming on.

Yum. Vanilla bean ice cream all the way. I don’t have the day off. I was up by 5, just got back from a 10.18 mile run, and now it’s time to get ready for work.

Reply

Vanilla bean!! I have the whole week off… I’m headed to Boston in the morning to spend the week with my mom :)

Yes please to the lasagne recipe. I love lasagne!

I’m not working today, but it’s typical for a nurse’s schedule to have random days off. Today I’m going for a run and continuing to house train our new pup! Two of my favorite recipes of my moms are her meatloaf and corn soufflĂ©. I would love the lasagna recipe! And my vote is for vanilla bean. There’s just something about those lil’ black specs that make it fantastic! Have a magnificent Monday ;-)

Reply

How sweet of Bangs! And those cookies look amazing! Europe doesn’t take President’s Day off ;) although I had no class today so really I can’t complain!
I have a confession to make though…. I have never really liked ice cream!

Reply

All the food in this post is making my mouth water. And YES I have the day off today – woohoo!

Reply

I love making lasagna and would love to try your mom’s recipe!

Reply

Aw, it was so sweet of Bangs’ Friend to make you lasagna. I’m sure that was a nice little post-birthday treat. Your ice cream sandwiches look amazing! I bet that Brooke can’t wait until she’s old enough to eat one. I don’t have any big plans for the day–just some yoga and a recovery run. Oh, I might go see about getting some new running shoes, though! I’ve been running in the Brooks Ghosts but I kinda want to try out the Pure Flows or maybe the Pure Cadences.

Reply

Just adore that picture!

Reply

I love a really good Vanilla Bean ice cream!! Those Cookie sandwiches look yummy! Brooke looks so happy to be helping! :)

I love Lasagna – I have a dump and mix technique – I may be outside the norm – but I use Cottage Cheese and Ricota in mine.

Reply

Every time we buy vanilla ice cream, my husband and I spend at least 5 minutes debating/trying to figure out the differences between the different vanillas. We usually just go with what’s on sale. Our palettes are so refined.

I wish I had today off. I am at least spending the morning working from my couch instead of my office. That’s sort of the same thing, right?

Reply

My mom has a fabulous lasagna recipe too! In fact, we had it last week for my grandpa’s b-day. Wow….those cookies look amazing!!! Brooke is just the cutest and how sweet of you to leave the room when eating dough. ;)

Reply

My mom has a really great lasagna recipe too! I love Italian food and need to get more of my family’s recipes so I can start making them at home.

Reply

No day off for me—I have 3 kids haha. And they were up bright and early too (actually it wasn’t even bright yet). Those cookies look super yummy. I have been really wanting cookie dough and now I’m tempted to make your recipe! My mom always made bbq ribs for my birthday–but I haven’t had those for years now :(.

Those homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches look SO GOOD! Those were my favorite desserts growing up, nothing beats it!

Reply

Is Bangs really your personal chef?! I swear she cooks a lot for you! haha what a nice friend to have! :)

Reply

Hey, I just copied the recipe because they look AMAZING. However, it says 1 tsp baking soda twice. Is there supposed to be 1 tsp baking powder or just 1 tsp baking soda and no baking powder?
Thanks!
Oh, and I’d love the lasagna recipe!

Reply

Ahhhh you are right!!! Thank you!

Reply

what a CUTE pic of little brookie!!
it’s FAMILY DAY here today so i DO have the day off! TM run, yoga, and swiss chalet for lunch with my parents will make up my day.
have a fun day, janae!

Reply

Brooke looks like a fabulous little helper! Some of my fondest memories are of my sons helping me make cookies from the time they were little until they were in their teens! I think it’s great family time together; and you’re right, it’s never too early to start them! :-)

Vanilla bean for me, with French vanilla a close second! Have a wonderful day!!!

Reply

You could also put a huge heap of frosting in between those cookies! That would be delicious!

My favorite family recipe is my grandpa’s macaroni & cheese. He made it every Friday for our restaurant’s fish fry. It is my favorite food in the whole world & it’s what I request for every occasion my family hosts!

Reply

That picture of Brooke mixing the dough – I can’t even! I remember baking cookies with my mom when I was younger, and always being super impatient when it came to waiting for them to come out of the oven. Good times :D We do have the day off up here in Canada, but it’s Family Day instead of President’s Day, so I’m hoping that I can go hang out with my mom and convince her to do some baking ;)

Reply

We, unfortunately, do not have the day off today, but since I work in the public school system, I have a lot of other days off so I can’t complain. Gotta go with vanilla bean!

Reply

I had my mom’s lasagna this weekend also! No day off for me!

Reply

Oh my gosh, I just love that first photo of Brooke stirring the cookie dough! She’s going to be a pro at making cooking by the time she’s 2. ;) Those ice cream sandwich cookies look so yummy! I love any kind of vanilla, but I think vanilla bean is my favorite!

Reply

Cookies for breakfast?! =)

Reply

I can’t even remember the last time I ate lasagna, but it sounds really really good right now!!
One of my favorite family recipes is my Grandma’s apple crisp–it’s one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, and, of course, no one can make it as good as she can.

Reply

While I was reading I was thinking “I want her mom’s recipe” and then there it was in the questions? YES, YES, YES!!!

Your cookies look delish!

Reply

I love vanilla ice cream, its my favorite and if I had to choose one forever it would be vanilla bean! My girls are only 4 so no school for us today :) Just our homeschool preschool stuff we are working on, pretty lax.

Reply

We’re off around here! Hitting up the gym then getting some much needed shopping, errands, and cleaning done! Part-ay.

Reply

I do have the day off today… Happy President’s Day! Nothing exciting planned- I’m going to get my weekly house cleaning done, catch up on TV shows, and a little cross training will probably also happen.

I have two favorites: My Mom’s beef stew and my Dad’s lasagna.

Vanilla Bean!

Reply

I made my mom’s lasagna recipe for dinner last night! I love lasagna but it always seems like such a process to make. :) That cookie recipe sounds AMAZING!

Reply

You’re so right. Logan has been baking with me since he was Brooke’s age…..it’s paid off now at 3 he can actually do important things and help me :) lol

Reply

#1: Those cookies look AMAZING. Stop making me want dessert for breakfast :)
#2: I LOVE vanilla bean ice cream. When I was little, it was my favorite to mix with Hershey’s syrup and make “chocolate soup” with. (Who am I kidding, I totally still do this)

Reply

I read your blog everyday but felt the need to comment today because of how adorable that first picture of Brooke is. She is so darn cute. On a side note-the cookies also look amazing, and vanilla BEAN would have to go in the middle :)

Reply

I actually don’t have the week off… but today is only one class in the afternoon. I’ll be spending the morning doing a run with my boyfriend’s sister. She is running her first half marathon on Saturday!

Reply

No day off here; we don’t celebrate Presidents Day in Canada! But last Monday was Family Day, so it’s all good. :)

I ran my 10k race yesterday and got a PR!!! I took 5min off my old time, which for me who has only been a runner for a couple of years and had surgery last year, was a pretty awesome moment!

Reply

I’d like to get your mom’s lasagna recipe. I love pasta dishes.
No day off for me; I have class all day. But that’s okay because I started my day off with a great run in my new Brooks PureConnect, and my classes are really interesting.

Reply

No president’s day here (UK) but it is half term and I’m a teacher so I have a whole week off! Yay! So far I’ve mostly slept :)

My fav sort-of-family-recipes are fish pie and lasagne. Lasagne is off the menu though as I’ve given up cheese for lent and he’s given up red meat. Planning meals at the moment is a bit of a nightmare!

Will have to try out those cookies… :)

Reply

I would love the recipe! It looks delish!!

Reply

Yes, please! Lasagna recipe!

Reply

We do have the day off but its called Family Day holiday here :)
My Mom`s banana bread is the BEST!
Vanilla Bean for sure, love the little bursts of flavor with the vanilla specks.

Way to get Brooke started early on baking!

I once lived my baking dream as a baker and mixer at a Whole Foods Market store. The Baker Team Leader even let me create my own flavored pound cakes!

My husband is amazed at what I learned from those years, and my fellow bakery team members remain some of the most special people to me.

Reply

Vanilla bean all the way! I can’t remember the last time I had an ice cream sandwich, but my mouth is definitely watering right now…

Hi; I don’t blog and I have never met you, but after today I cannot hold back from commenting any longer. Your baby pictures are the cutest I have ever seen, and your positive attitude really helps me every day. Thank you.

No day off, I live in Canada. UHM yes I would love your moms lasagna recipe and I choose french vanilla over everything.

Reply

Most definitely Vanilla Bean!

I don’t get paid holidays anymore (self-employed), so I’m in the office today! Boooo.

Reply

Yum! That looks so good! I want her lasagna recipe!

Presidents day – nothing fun. Husband is spending the entire morning on a bike ride and then I’ll spend the evening doing speedwork. Our poor kids…

Reply

My grandma’s tacos were always a family favorite. We actually all loved them so much she started to have tacos for our Christmas meals.

They were seriously that good.

p.s. Vanilla FROYO for me.

Reply

Oh and no, I don’t have off today! :(

Reply

Brooke is so adorable. Oh my god. I feel like it was just yesterday that you were posting that you were pregnant, and now she is following in her mom’s footsteps, trying to eat up all the sugar in the world. ;)

Unfortunatly, I have work and school today. Boo. At least they have a special “President’s Day Lunch” in the dining hall today. I bet you a million dollars it’s hot dogs. The dining hall likes to make all theme meals hot dog applicable.

Reply

Yum those cookies look so good! I prefer vanilla bean ice cream- it tastes more “real” for some reason.

Reply

Ooh, the cookies look fantastic! My 3 year old regularly asks to bake together- it’s always a huge mess, but so worth it!

Reply

Those cookies look amazing and it’s lucky we’re keeping our house super tidy for showings otherwise I would be making a few batches! I would love for you to share your mom’s lasagna recipe- it looks AMAZING!

Reply

Day off over here – but in Ontario it is “family day”, but the funny thing is that the Federal service employees do not get the day off, so in Ottawa, almost everyone is at work today!

Reply

Brooke is looking extra adorable in that picture :)

Reply

Yum! I’m loving the cookie-ice cream sandwich!! ;)

I do have today off, which is really nice. I flew down to Florida for the weekend to have one of my baby showers, and I just got back to Atlanta. We had so much fun. Yay for little girls! :)

Reply

my fav family recipe is for jewish apple cake. i refuse to share the recipe with anyone outside of my family. so i’m constantly baking them for parties and friends. i might have to start sharing the recipe. it’s the best ever!!!

Reply

i wiiiiish i had the day off! but sadly dont!
and those cookies make me drool.
and i would go for vanilla bean YUM!

Reply

Of course we all want the lasagna recipe, anything described with so much fondness must be amazing!
My family has lots of favorite “recipes”, unfortunately my mom doesn’t really use measuring tools so she tells us things like, add SOME garlic, chop SOME onion, make SOME roux… she laughs if I dare tell her I need a little more guidence.

Reply

You know how “they” say you shouldn’t eat cookie dough because of the raw egg? If you use Egg Replacer (it’s a real thing for egg-allergic people) it works EGGZactly like eggs and tastes the same and there is no danger (perceived or otherwise) in eating the uncooked cookie dough.

I definitely want the lasagna recipe.

Reply

Those cookies are the most delicious looking cookies I have seen. Mmmm. That sounds so good. And that picture of brooke making them is beyond adorable. Gah. I just can’t get over her cuteness. I have decided you need to have 12 kids because there needs to be more Brookers in this world.

Ross has to work and Anna was puking from 2-5am last night, so today with definitely be chill. Hopefully I will still get a workout in cause when my alarm went off at 5:30 and I had only been asleep for a 1/2hr, I bailed.

French vanilla and old fashion usually have eggs in them, so we rarely buy them. Plus I think vanilla bean tastes better.

Does Billy have the day off? Hope you guys get to spend time together today or get to do something fun. Every where is having a sale today, so shopping sounds fun to me;)

Brooke is looking so much like Billy, sooo sweet!

Day off today here..it’s Family Day – how sweet, right!!

Bangs is seriously the most amazing friend! I need more people in my life who bring me yummy food and make my tummy happy. I do have today off, and I came home from Sarasota super early (3 hour drive), took a nap, and am going to do some homework/be lazy/watch TV. I really like vanilla bean, it’s delicious.

My mom makes the best bowtie pasta. It’s so simple and delicious and I love it. She usually puts chicken in it, but since I became a vegetarian, she’s been omitting the chicken and she says she likes it better.

Reply

That last picture!!! OH MY GOODNESS.

I know what I want to make this week!!!

Reply

Ummmmmm yes please! I need your mom’s recipe for lasagna so I can recreate your amazing meal complete with icecream sandwiches! Not fair if only you get to partake in it…. Just saying!!! Please post your mom’s lasagna recipe :) Please and thank you!

Reply

I would love your mom’s lasagna recipe! Esp since my last attempt at creating a lasagna was kinda a fail!

Reply

We never take a day off! We like vanilla in general…don’t see much difference or know the diff…but we’re gonna say French Vanilla because Sandrine is from France.

Reply

I am SO making those cookies! Yum! Also, I totally laughed at the vanilla bean ice cream, because over the holidays I was in the grocery store with my mom and couldn’t find any vanilla bean ice cream and my mom thought I was nuts because I was passing up all the “regular” vanilla. She didn’t know there was a difference. There is, darn it! LOL

Reply

I am a French Vanilla ice cream girl myself!

I am new to your blog but I love your name Hungry Runner Girl.

I’m guessing your posts will have a little bit of everything and I look forward to reading more and sharing knowledge when I can.

Reply

Good GOD both the cookies and lasagna look way better then what we are having for dinner – which btw is undecided at this point. Just put a batch of homemade granola in the oven while the boys are crashed on the couch. We did get outside for a bit – I ran for 6 miles and mostly FROZE so I think we are all thawing out! http://www.colorushealthy.com

So the cookie recipe calls for baking soda twice? Is that correct?

Reply

Nooo I thought I fixed it! Sorry!

That is the sweetest b-day gift ever! Please post your moms lasagna recipe! It looks soooooo yummy:)

That’s so great you are already involving Brooke in baking activities! It’s very Montessori of you. So many people assume there babies/children can’t CFO something, or just don’t want to deal with the potential mess! Really, they just want to be involved, help out, and do those amazing things they see you doing all of the time. She’s going to have awesome memories.

That’s supposed to say “can’t do something”. I have no idea what CFO means, Autocorrect!

I would love your mom’s lasagna recipe. And if you would like, I have an AWESOME taco soup recipe
