The cold medicine ate my brain.

I am pretty sure that the cold medicine went straight to my brain and messed some things up.

1.  I meant to go 8 miles but I suddenly cannot do math anymore and did 10.3 miles instead.

2.  I wasn’t paying attention and there was a big group of people and as I was trying to dodge them my hip went straight into this pole.  I almost fell into the lake.

IMG 7103This is where I tried to take a picture of myself while I was running and just managed to get my hair in it.  You should be thankful.

IMG 7096

Just one more picture of my favorite lake to run around.  Over the two years of blogging I have finally mastered taking a good scenery photo while running.

IMG 7092

I took the Garmin 10 (usually I use the 305) out and it turns out that today was my longest run with it so far.  I did a 7:52 average pace.

IMG 7104

The FMWs have returned with a vengeance.  Multiple bowls of that stuff (and some multi-grain Cheerios) were the only thing that sounded good when I got home.

IMG 7112

I just have to show you the new pink cords and top that Brooke has on today from NYC Running Mama, she is pretty darn fashionable now.

Love Brooke’s outfit! So cute! I would probably run for hours and hours if I had a lake like that near me :)

Janae! I need some advise regarding your Garmin’s. I am looking into investing into one but worried about compatibility with a Mac. I was wondering if you had heard anything through the blog-o-sphere or other runners. I am desperate because I don’t want to make the wrong choice.

Any help would be great!

I have been using my Garmin 405cx for almost 2 years with my Mac and have had no problems with it. I do remember that it took me a little bit of time to figure out the software, but once I did, it has been great…once you have the USB Ant Agent plugged in, you just leave your watch by your computer after your run, and it automatically uploads it! :) I’m sure that goes for any Garmin watch. Good luck!!! :)

I just got this EXACT Garmin watch for Christmas! I’m so excited to take it out for a spin! Merry Christmas!

I have been obsessed with Golden Graham’s lately… sooooo good. And they make your milk taste fantastic, too!

CUTE outfit on Brooke!!

And great shot of the lake. So pretty! It’s all snowy & the mtns are covered in white stuff. ;)

I had to run on the treadmill yesterday and since it reset after 60 min., it got me all confused. I thought I ran 9 miles, but really ran 10. You know you love to run when you accidentally run farther than planned :).

Reply

I hate running on the treadmill because I can’t run straight and my form is horrible and both of those things seem to be escalated when running on the treadmill. I feel like I am a pinball: “bing – she hit the front, bing she hit the left, bing to the front again, bing to the right this time”… I can’t do more than a 5k on there because I have to concentrate so much to not run into the machine, trip over myself, or fall off the side of the machine. … I’m special ;-)

Reply

oh you’re funny! I seem to bang up the treadmill as I’m running too! Glad I’m not the only one.

My parents got me the Forerunner 10 for Christmas. I literally screamed for joy when I saw what it was! I had been wanting a Garmin for soooo long! I’m so happy I don’t have to use my phone to track my runs anymore (via Runkeeper…. and could only use it when it wasn’t raining out). It’s the perfect size for me too. My wrists are really small and I think the normal size Garmins would be really uncomfortable for me considering the 10 is about as big as my wrists could handle.

Brooke’s outfit is the BEST! How cute!!!

Current favorite cereal is Rice Chex..yum yum!

brooke is seriously so cute for such a young baby. you make adorable children!!

I fell today on my run and skinned both my knees :-( No fun!

haha I have been there and done that several times – NOT FUN!!! hope you’re back and up at it soon Katie!

I use a garmin 110. I used to have the 305 (I think), but the satellites never seemed to work, so I switched. I love the 110.

I can’t think of the last klutzy thing I’ve done while running, unless tripping over the dog’s leash counts.

Thanks to you and your blog I discovered the beauty of mixing different cereals. Why did I not come up with this on my own?

Brooke looks adorable! My family laughs about how clumsy I am… My mom always joked my middle name should have been Grace (not.) This isn’t really physically clumsy but mentally it is haha when I was running on the track on our cruise ship it started tilting really bad and I swore we were sinking! I started making a mental plan of where I should be if we were really going down or if I should just jump off and hope I survive. Later my bil told me that’s what happens when they make a turn…. Wow. And apparently I wasn’t paying attention in the safety meeting on the first day because there are clearly guidelines in place for if there is an emergency and I was all ready to go down on my own. And I didn’t even have the excuse of cold medicine…

Pretty scenery photo! Your little girl is the cutest thing ever. The end.

I refueled my last 10 mile run with UCAN (I found out about it from going to an event that Meb was at here in Dallas, he actually uses it to fuel during marathons) and I have to say it went pretty well! Aside from the fact I will have to get used to the taste (the sample of raspberry they gave me tasted a little like cough medicine…I will have to try another kind) Anyway I liked it and I felt like it gave me energy towards the back end of my run. I love my Strawberry Banana energy gel blasts usually because they taste like candy ;-) The lake you were running at looks beautiful! I am very lucky I have a lake by me that I like to run around in the mornings.

I’m loving chocolate Cheerios. Plus a bowl of chocolate milk is waiting for you when you’re done! I got the garmin 410 for christmas (my first one!) and can’t wait to take it on a run tomorrow!!

Reply

lmao at the cement pole bounce…I bounced off my classroom door while heading to the hall to yell at some stragglers… My scolding was not taken seriously as you could imagine. Not ‘running’ per se, but I was walking very fast to catch the offending 12 year olds. Smooth.

Fav cereal: Peanut Butter Cheerios. With vanilla almond milk. I’m waiting for dinner to finish cooking right now, but now that you mention it…I might need some of that stuff.

No GPS as of yet…I’ve played with runkeeper on my phone….I’m holding out for my bia whenever they may be ready.

Refueled my last run with chocolate. dove promises. not what I intended on, of course, but they’re like potato chips…you can’t have just one. oops.

Also, Brooke can’t possibly get any cuter, but then she does…how is that possible?!

Reply

Gorgeous, gorgeous lake! I definitely don’t blame you for zoning out and running more than you originally thought you had. Also, I have to tell you that I’m incredibly jealous of your weather – I’m currently doing everything I can to avoid going outside because it’s absolutely freezing and I’m the biggest wimp when it comes to the cold. Sad face. Cereal makes me happy, though! Puffins and Kashi Cinnamon Harvest are my current obsessions.

Reply

Love Brooke’s pink cords!

My all-time fave cereal is Honey Nut Cheerios.

I use a Soleus GPS. Very bare bones, but it does what I need!

Reply

I am obsessed with the FMW with a touch of fruit in the middle!!! The mixed berry is my favorite but the raspberry is pretty good too. I don’t eat them with milk though. I pack a baggie full and take it to work. Anytime I start to get a little hungry I munch on a few of them and I’m good to go. Also since I’ve been doing this my afternoon salty/crunchy craving has disappeared which is an awesome thing. Yay for sweetened but still good for you cereal!! :-)

Reply

I love Peanut Butter Puffins! Yummm! (And now I want pink cords!)

Reply

I got a Garmin 10 for Christmas! Just want to share with you. Can’t wait to use it…

Reply

Garmin 905XT I love it …

As for the cereal you are not going to be happy I am a plain Rice Krispis, plain Corn Flakes, plain Crispix kind of gal.

Brooke as always is adorable.

Reply

I am currently refueling my latest run in the healthiest way I know how…leftover PUMPKIN PIE. It’s okay because pumpkin is a fruit, or is it a vegetable? Oh well.

And I’m just so impressed by your ability to capture scenery while running. It really is an art and very few people realize that!

Reply

I am addicted to Bran Flakes with Greek yogurt- yum!

She gets cuter by the day! Such an adorable outfit. So the one day I was out running… I think 14 miles… and on my 5th mile… completely tripped on my shoelace and landed HARD. Like I had no idea it was coming and went down flat on my stomach, and ended up getting scraped up on my hand and knee. It was so bad that this guy stopped to ask if I was OK and when I said yes, he paused and said… “are you sure?” Hahah. Needless to say, I finished my run and switched out my laces :)

Reply

Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!! You are hardcore for finishing your run after that!

Reply

my absolute favorite cereal right now is the new honey nut Chex that I got, soooo good!

Here is a good running klutz story. My good friend is a veteran and we were joking while I was waiting in the chute for my last half marathon that it would be funny if I yelled “FREEEDOM!” when I crossed the start line. So the gun goes off and people start jogging forward – I turn to my friend and pretend to yell freedom while waving my arms. Of course the race bottle necked and everyone stopped running but me… straight into the people in front of me! That was pretty funny!

Reply

Your story made my day!

Reply

I am a really clumsy runner as well, so don’t feel bad. A few months ago I tripped and totally tore up my knees, elbows, hands and wrist. I have a serious scar on my wrist as a constant reminder. haha.

I really love Kashi cereal, especially with a bit of almond butter. It’s what I refueled with today:-)

I love every type of Cheerios!

About a year ago, I fell OFF the treadmill while running at the gym. To the best of my memory, I blacked out (hadn’t eaten beforehand) and came to with the belt running under my knees while I tried to hold on to the machine with my arms. The really embarrassing part was that the gym was…..PACKED. Not a free treadmill, not a free elliptical, not a free bike. Every piece of equipment was in use. There were several staffers walking around and strangely, not one of them came to check on me when I FINALLY picked myself up off the still-running belt. Agh. It was mortifying. I tried to just finish my run and ignore what had happened….but I was too embarrassed. I sneaked out a few minutes later. :-/
Another time, I was halfway through my workout when I realized my capris were inside out. :)
Most recently, I tripped and fell in the middle of an intersection during and outdoor run. Yes, there were cars everywhere. Yes, it was also mortifying.
I am a seriously clumsy runner.

BUT–I just got my first Garmin Forerunner for Christmas and as soon as the snow is gone, I can’t wait to give it a try!

Reply

My treadmill is in the corner of my room facing the center so it is blocking me if I fall off. Which I did. One would think it would be kind of funny…the fall off the treadmill story. After falling though, I can’t laugh at those stories. That rash is SO not funny. My leg was sore for a month and a half and I can’t imagine blacking out! You poor thing. I thought it was scary as heck being stuck while the treadmill kept running my skin off not to mention the muscle pain from the landing.

Now…the inside out capris…that’s funny. ;) I’ll laugh with you on that one. haha. I would so do that.

Reply

Your run looks so pretty! I can’t think of any particular clutzy thing I’ve done on a run… I probably always look like one though ;) I use the Garmin 210 but I really want the 10!

Reply

That picture of Brooke is ADORABLE!

Reply

I cannot run straight. I often fall off the edge of the road and make a slight detour in the grass. Thankfully, people don’t usually notice, but I look drunk or something. It’s super cold here in Illinois, so my last refueling was with hot chocolate!

Reply

I sometimes run on a dirt trail and at least three times I’ve tripped on a tree root or a rock and fallen down hard in front of someone. I get up bloody, but I run off pretending like I’m fine because I’m so embarrassed.

My favorite cereal right now is Barbaras Puffins. For some reason the crunchiness is making me love it.

Reply

Seriously I think Brooke is the most beautiful little girl! And I also think she’s more stylish than me ;) Your run looked blissful!

Reply

I ran into another runner a few years ago (I was dodging around a stroller and he was dodging around me), got knocked to the ground and started cursing quite profanely. He stopped to help me up and that’s when I noticed that he was Jeff Carter (an NHL player, and I’m a BIG FAN. I was at school, which is in his hometown, so I’m guessing he was home for the summer). He apologized and headed on his way, and I was too shocked to say anything more. Seriously, had I not (1) had a dirty sailor mouth and (2) been able to get my wits about me, we would totally be married right now. I’m sure of it. ;)

Great story. And I bet you would. I believe it.

I was hoping for the garmin 10 for Christmas, guess it’ll just be a Christmas present for myself :)
My favorite running tights still have a hole in the knee from when I feel last winter when i had a nasty cold!

I need to run with a Garmin. Dang it. I just run with my phone. I want that new Garmin 10. I may have missed it, but what lake is that? It’s beautiful.

Reply

I have fallen right on my face while running before so you are in good company :) hope you are okay!

Golden Grahams are my cereal of choice right now.

refueled last run with chocolate chip cookies.

brooke’s outfit is the best!

Well, technically I wasn’t running, but walking fast and talking (obviously I can’t do two things at once) and walked straight into a glass door in front of about 100 people. I hit my nose so hard that I thought I broke it. I wanted to cry because it hurt so much but didn’t want to draw more attention to myself, so I tried to hold it in. My nose was red and puffy for a week.

I’m using the Garmin 210. Love it.

I love mixing cereal. The last combo I had was Honey Bunches of Oats, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Puffins & Honey Nut Cheerios….topped with Greek yogurt, banana & soy milk :)

Had a nice long run today. Refueled with a huge banana & soy latte. I love bananas and crave them after a run…

I didn’t trip or fall but I over dressed for a run and about passed out! I had to sit on the side if the trail until I could stand back up and not blackout. The worst part was when an elderly couple asked me if I needed some help. Lesson learned!
My husband got me the Garmin 10! Super excited to use it instead of my phone!!

Reply

I’ve been eating chex cereals by the box lately!! GAHHHHH

Reply

my husband got me that watch for christmas but not sure if i want to keep it or not cause i don’t see how to see your average pace for the entire run, not just your current pace. do you have to plug in your watch at the end of your run to see that? on the two screens it only shows total time, total miles, calories and current pace…

Reply

Hey! Yeah I think there is a way to set it up like that but that is just the screen it shows at the end! Let me ask billy how to display the average pace.

Reply

I have the Garmin FR 405 and I love it. It’s the only GPS watch I’ve ever used. Nice landscape pictures!

I just got a MOTOACTV GPS running watch and love it! I borrowed a friend’s before and used it for a long run and then got my own and have used it once. You can use it inside or out which is nice AND you can track other workouts other than running. You can also detach it from the watch part and secure it to your bike. (I don’t bike, but for those that do, that’s cool!) Here’s the link, just FYI. :)

Omg I hope your hip is ok!

I usually wind up buying HNCheerios or something boring but sometimes I get crazy with Quaker squares haha

Reply

I absolutely love Raisin Bran…I need a bowl!

Reply

I refueled my last run (yesterday) with homemade garbage bread. It was fantastic.

Reply

Clumsy? Yes. Today I tripped over a tree root at mile 12 and completely face-planted into the mud. My knee was throbbing and I was covered in mud. On the very next loop around the park, I tripped on the EXACT same tree root and did it all over again. Ridiculous. My brand new Garmin 310 XT survived though.

Reply

I left off my refuel- double fall = big reward. Hot chocolate and the best croissant ever.

Reply

Right now it’s plain organic version of cheerios! I do add frosted mini wheats once in a while :)

Reply

Ahhh, how precious and fashionable does Brooke look in her need cords and sweater!!

Favorite cereal would have to be Quaker oatmeal squares. They are pretty darn yummy with and without milk!!

Reply

oh no, u poor thing getting hip checked by a concrete pole! i hope u don’t bruise up too bad!

my excuse is that during a run our brains are just too deprived on oxygen to think straight…it’s now ur fault. ;)

Once in college I was just finishing up a run and did this super graceful leap over a pile of snow onto the sidewalk. Unfortunately there was a layer of ice between me and the sidewalk and both feet flew out from under me and I landed flat on my back. Best part? I was in front of the window to the indoor track where my 2+ year crush was practicing with the boys team. Gladly that relationship never worked out. He never would have let me live it down ;)

Orrrrrrr there was the treadmill disaster. I was thinking about dinner and stepped onto the border of the treadmill–the part that does not move–and of course I fell down and of course I tried to pull myself up and of course NO ONE AROUND ME SAW IT so there was no one to laugh hysterically with. I had some impressive scabs though! I cant wait for this incredibly lame in\jury to heal so I can run again. It has been since THE BEGINNING OF JULY.

Reply

I use the Nike+ GPS on my iPhone. And I really shouldn’t admit this out loud but I just refueled my 6 mile run with a Zero candy bar! Gotta get rid of that Christmas candy!!

Reply

that lake is gorgeous! and i need some pink cords like Brooke, adorable.

Reply

I love Brooke’s outfit!
I didn’t want to wear my yaktrax running yesterday since it didn’t look too snowy, but it was icy and I totally almost wiped out multiple times. ha!

Reply

Yesterday I thought it was a good idea to go run in four inches of snow covered by once inch of ice. That made for an interesting and slow run. Thankfully, I didn’t bust it – I save my spills for the warm and dry days. ;-)

I’m researching Garmins now, and am wondering if it’s better to get one with a heart rate monitor built in, or separate? Do you or your readers have any suggestions or experiences to share?

Reply

Oh my goodness, glad you didn’t fall in that lake!! I think I need a tutorial on how to take pictures WHILE running because I have totally slow down or even stop to get a good pic!!

Reply

Kashi Golden Goodness is by far my fav right now! It’s not available in all stores, but luckily they carry it at my nearby grocery store. I’m dying to get that super cute Garmin!! My Santa hubby didn’t get it for me this year, rude! Hope you’re feeling better!
