I am about to bombard you with a large amount of photos but it is Friday so that means it is acceptable to do whatever I want.

Yesterday we went here:

DSC 5687

Which is the exact same background from the below picture 6 years ago almost to the day.  Billy and I started dating in September and that December Billy invited me to go out to California (he obviously knew right away that I was the one but for some reason it took me two years to convince him) for Christmas at his family’s house.   He really wanted to impress me by taking me to the absolute best/most romantic/seafoodelicious restaurant, Las Brisas.  I knew he was the one when he took me to a restaurant dedicated to seafood where you watch the sunset as you eat.

Yes we do look awkward and like we are approximately 12 years old.

This picture is from yesterday but on the other side of the gazebo.

This trip to Laguna Beach was a million times even cooler because we had the Brookester with us.

DSC 5709

She loved every second.

DSC 5712

We all headed down to the beach at about 3 and had a while to roam around before dinner.

DSC 5734

Am I the only one that see’s a beautiful place and immediately thinks… “I NEED to go on a run here.”

DSC 5689

Sorry but I want to do just one more blast from the past photo because it is fun like that.

We actually ate at the exact same spot in the restaurant last night but the table was just rotated and over the years we have figured out what the flash is on our camera.

DSC 5738

We started off with this fancy guacamole that must have had at least 12 fresh limes squeezed into it.

DSC 5740

There were also crab cakes (my favorite), ceviche and calamari.

DSC 5741 1

The grande finale:  every single type of seafood you can imagine all in one bowl of pasta with a tomato and garlic sauce.

DSC 5743

(I am secretly mad at Billy for not taking me for chocolate covered gummy bears after dinner like he did 6 years ago)

We finished off the night by watching The Hunger Games.

I (a Midwestern girl!) went to Laguna Beach this summer, and immediately recognized it from your first picture. We ate at a really cute little Italian bistro.

Looks like a great date night!

I am allergic to seafood, so I can’t comment on that, I would devour that guac though:-)

I just want to say that you two are SO adorable. I love that you showed yourselves when you first started dating at the same restaurant. Now you’re grown and married with a beautiful daughter.

That’s so cute that you have pictures from way back then, and then now in the same spot to compare!!! What a big change!

Whenever I see a great place I think, “I have to run here!” But where I am right now there is over 7 inches of snow so I’m trapped and living vicariously through your photos. lol :)

What a beautiful setting and amazing meal! You guys look great! :)

OMG, we went to Laguna the last time we were in CA and I absolutely fell in love with this town. So adorable, but those HILLS!! Imagine training for a marathon there. :)

Reply

I do the same thing with running. It helps change the Scenery and makes the runs go by faster when there are lots of pretty things to look at! That is the cutest day ever. I love that you went back there, it’s adorable!!

Reply

That looks beautiful. In all the time I lived in California I never made it down to Laguna. I did, however, watch the show Laguna Beach. That’s almost the same. I’m not a big fan of seafood. Sometimes I like shrimp or salmon but that’s about it. The best part about Friday will be when I leave work. I will forever answer that question that way until I don’t have to work anymore.

looks so fun! chocolate covered gummies are THE BEST. cute photos!

You guys are such a beautiful couple!
We recently looked at some blast from the past photos too. So fun, and yet now I feel old :(

Best part about Friday……first day home from all the Christmas festivities, and will stay in pj’s till late, take a run, …….and just see whatever else unfolds.

I pretty much love all seafood, so it’s tough to pick a favorite. If I had to, though, I’d probably go for scallops.

I love the flashback pictures! We have a Thai place here that’s “our” restaurant and we just got a gift certificate from there for Christmas. I know where we’re going this weekend!

Hahaha I’m glad you finally figured out how to use the flash on your camera!! These are some great pics and I think it’s so fun that you got to take Brooke back to a place you and Billy went to soo many years ago! :) My fiance and I always try to go back to the place where we met on the same day every year! :)

Awe, I’ve eaten there before! I was born out in Laguna Beach and my parents used to go there on special occasions. Now that my husband and I are living in California, we’ve made the trip up there to eat and see where I was born.

Reply

Oh my I love all seafood but stone crabs are probably my favorite. Rare ahi tuna is a close second. I love calamari for appetizers and/or guacamole. Now I am seriously craving seafood! The pictures are gorgeous!

Reply

Aww, how special to be back there again, this time with Brooke! :)

Reply

ewww I cannot even begin to handle seafood! most likely because i grew up in the landlocked state of colorado but now i am in portland, oregon so i should be able to shake it off but just cannot. my favorite part of my Friday is that i am still with my family in kansas city, missouri and we are having a ladies day today!

Reply

Looks like an awesome place! I love to order salmon or shrimp and my favorite appetizer is definitely guacamole.

Reply

That’s so fun that you have pictures in the exact same spot!
I used to hate seafood and more and more now I like it–salmon, shrimp, and tilapia are my favorites.

Reply

You and your little family are just adorable! Laguna Beach is gorgeous… Definitely one of my favorite beaches! I loooove seafood of all kinds, so I take full advantage of it whenever we are near the ocean.

Reply

Wow that is such a beautiful spot. And yes. I would most definitely kick off my shoes and run through the sand :)

Reply

I’m going to my mom’s house in Nebraska and my sister and her husband will be there!

Reply

That guacamole looks amazing! Beautiful family pictures!

Reply

Aww love the blast from the past! You two are seriously way too adorable, and now you have Brooke, which makes everything just perfect. I’m actually not a big fan of seafood (mostly because I’m allergic to it), but I’d kill to see a view like that right about now.

Reply

My flight leaves for LAX tomorrow at 6am! I am heading down to the Rose Bowl. I CANNOT wait to run on the path by Manhattan Beach where we are staying. I wish I had a longer trip so I could come find you and get some FROYO :)

Best part of Friday: having the next 5 days off of work!

Reply

random but i LOVE your shoes! what type are they/where did u get them!?

Reply

Thank you!!!! They are Steve Madden and I got them at Nordstrom rack!

Reply

I’m all about crab legs and shrimps, but I’m starting to really like scallops as well. Plus, I grew up on fish because my dad’s big into fishing. Love seafood!

Reply

Those are beautiful pictures! I have to agree-crab cakes are my favorite as well!

Reply

How fun to see pictures of you and Billy from so many years ago! It looks like you guys had a great dinner..what a beautiful location for a restaurant! I only knew it was Laguna Beach because I remember seeing that view on the MTV show many years ago.. :)

Reply

Ahhh love the throwback pics!! You crazy kids. And you are not alone in seeing a beautiful place & immediately mapping out a run – in fact I think it’s weird if you DON’T do that.

Reply

I don’t eat seafood, but I would be all over that guacamole!

What is the best part about your Friday? Nothing planned today. I’m sure I can find a way to get into trouble.

My favorite appetizer to order is usually some sort of warm dip with a carb to dip with. Yummy!

Reply

Favorite appetizer to order would probably be nachos as long as they don’t come with meat on them. In fact, that’s my favorite snack to make at home too!

Looks like you had a beautiful time!

Reply

I am ALWAYS seeing beautiful places and thinking I want to run there. :-)

I love seafood, especially shrimp, lobster tails, crab, and scallops. I stick with the classic Red Lobster, and Outback lobster tails are awesome.

Reply

What gorgeous scenery, and what fun to look at your “blast from the past” pics!

Reply

I like shrimp. But that is about it on the subject of seafood.
Appetizer: Bruschetta or anything that involves bread and garlic!
Friday I will go for a run and maybe a hike later.

All seafood is glorious. Love it. California beaches are awesome too.

Reply

Las Brisas is so so so so so yummy! I lived 23 years of my life thinking I wouldn’t like guacamole, finally tried it at Las Brisas, and they changed my mind!! Now I eat like a tub full of guacamole in a sitting…

Reply

How cute to be able to go back there!
and absolutely, ever since I started running, it’s the only way I like to explore new or pretty places!

Love seafood – I actually had mussels and lobster this week!

Reply

Fun! My best friend got married in that exact gazebo and then had the reception at Las Brisas! It’s such a beautiful place.

Reply

LOVE laguna beach! I need to visit there again!

Reply

I used to live in Laguna, actually within a two minute walk of Las Brisas. Trust me, that was dangerous. They have the best guac in the world!

Sigh, I miss living in Laguna!

Reply

My favorite seafood is probably ahi tuna or scallops – but I love all seafood!

A restaurant that has special meaning to me is Gringo’s in San Diego because that is where my husband took me for our first date in 2007! I was sad to find out that they had changed the name when we tried to go back there last year.

My favorite appetizer is probably spinach and artichoke dip! or nachos!

Reply

This is so sweet, I love it. My husband and I came to SF on honeymoon and ate in a restaurant in Fisherman’s Wharf. We now live here, and go back every now and again – first with our baby and now with our toddler. It never fails to make me happy and extra grateful!

Did you like the Hunger Games? I was obsessed with the film even though I’m nearly 20 years too old to be obsessed with it.

Reply

Beautiful photos, what a fun night. I LOVE Laguna, I was married about 1 mile from where you were last night. And my all-time favorite trails are right there. If you are still going to be in the area for awhile and want to experience the trails I can send you a pin drop for the map on your phone – email me.

Reply

I LOVE the pictures, how you got them from back then and now (with Brooke)!
My boyfriend of six years have a sushi restaurant where we can remember our first date.

Reply

I could probably eat seafood for every meal. Well okay, OBVIOUSLY I could. My favorite is tilapia and I am kind of in love with calamarie, too.

Reply

Any time I go to a new place, I always look around to see if there’s a good place to run! I haven’t run on a beach in a long time!

Reply

ahhhh so cute! love the throwback pics :-) Laguna Beach is soo beautiful. I really wanna live in Cali some day or at least have a job where I can travel to Cali often!!

Reply

The food from that restaurant looks amazing!! Wow!

Reply

Oh my gosh! Gorgeous! The view! The people! The baby (Brooke)!

FACT: nothing beats grilled lobster dipped in hot garlic butter…nothing!!

Reply

I’ve actually been there before and it’s beautiful…you gotta love Southern California! December and the weather is amazing, can’ t beat that!

Reply

Your pictures are gorgeous! How fun that you have one from 6 years ago to compare. My boyfriend and I have been together for 6 years. We went to St Maartin and took a picture a few years ago in front of the sign and then again this year. It’s funny to compare!

Reply

Aww what an amazingly cute story!! So fun that you could revisit the spot with Brooke!

I loooove seafood- my parents always thought it was so weird that I would always order linguine with clam sauce or seafood pasta (like you got) ever since I was really young haha.

Reply

I’ve noticed your photos have looked great the past few days! Did you get a new camera for Christmas?

Reply

you guys should have tried to re-enact the same pic from 6 years ago lol

Reply

My husband and I had a restaurant that was special to us.
We went there for nearly every special occasion, and even
“just because.” We have so many memories of this place:
we were there when owners changed, when the place was
remodeled and redecorated, when their salsa recipe
changed and when owners changed yet again.

Sadly, going there is no longer an option since the building
burned to the ground this past spring/summer.
