The microwave saves the day and my little sidekick.

After lunch yesterday I went to my parent’s house for three main reasons:

1.  They have air conditioning and I don’t like sweating to death at my house.

2.  They always have ice cream and I always want to eat ice cream.

3.  Everyone else is usually hanging out over there and Billy is being lame and deserting me this summer in favor of finishing classes so he can graduate.   I feel bad when he texts me that he is in class and asks what I am doing and I have to answer something along the lines of ‘sitting at the counter eating baked goods and ice cream with my favorite curly haired girl.’

After our dessert we both fell asleep but when I woke up she was watching cartoons and for some reason she found it really comfortable to lay her arm across my neck.  I was confused.

When my sister was taking her other cutie daughter to piano lessons she spotted a corner bake sale that a neighbor and her kids were doing, the neighbor used to be a caterer so we knew that there were going to be delicious treats.  Little did my sister know that I already fed her daughter a treat muhahahah (there is a reason I am the favorite aunt) and we all walked on over to buy some goodies.

Photo 3

I had one of those mini strawberry pies and I swear each crust had a stick of butter in them but the strawberries canceled that out and made it a healthy dessert.

Photo 4

I came back home when Billy got done with school to head on over to his softball games (2 in a row).  They lost the first one by ONE run..boo but they did win the second one!

We didn’t get back home until after 8 and all I could think about was a fresh salad with italian dressing.  Billy made the asparagus in the MICROWAVE and it was even better than on the grill.  He added olive oil, salt and water to it and it was incredible.  First real vegetable that I have eaten at night in months!

PS a few people have wondered about me eating deli turkey while pregnant and my doctor told me it is fine for me to eat as long as it is from a good source and served at the right temperature:)

I used to play the piano but was horrendous so I finally accepted it wasn’t for me! Your niece is just the cutest thing in the world, btw. :)

Outside…..a little early morning bike ride with the hubby.

I am saying chickpeas just because peas is in their name though not really a veggie……….I literally cannot get enough of hummus right now.

And right with you on the Italian.

I have been making a lot of spinach strawberry salads, so I have been loving poppy seed dressing lately!

I’ll be working out inside today. Body Pump in the am, and yoga in the pm.

Those desserts lokk awesome!!

I LOVE that bake sale.. It is too cute! I used to have a “Snack Stand” with one of my neighbors when we were kids. It reminds me of the time we spent waving down cars and begging people for money :)

My workout will be indoors today. I’m thinkin treadmill run. There is a chance of Tstorms all day!

It’s been so crazy hot and humid here, I’m hoping for rain today and I’ll run outside in it.

Those baked goods look amazing. I wish kids around here did that instead of the normal lemonade stands!

Mmmmm, that asparagus looks good! I’ve been a kale freak lately. I make a dressing of lime juice, olive oil, cilantro, chopped jalapenos, cumin and salt. If I have an avocado lying around, I put some of that in there, too. So good!

I’m waiting to see if it really is going to rain or not before I head out for my run. The sky looks 50-50 right now. Hmmmm…..

I played the piano when I was a kid and really wish I stuck with it. I want my kids to play. I am not a big dressing person, but love roasted garlic hummus. My favorite veggie lately are red peppers and avocados – are avocados a veggie??? Not sure what they are.
I got my 6 mile run in with a friend this am and I will prob hop on the stairmaster at home later. I still can’t really do strength training because of a little arm injury, so that bums me out a little. So I’ll just double up on the cardio:)
Have a great day!!!

I can’t get enough of roasted squash lately…and broccoli ain’t too bad either :)!

I love playing the piano. Unfortunately I do not have one right now, but last week when I was home I got to play a ton and I was in heaven.

Reply

I am loving your summer days! Love asparagus–we have a patch outside, unfortunately its done for the year:-( But I did find pickeled asparagus at Sam’s club–its delicious!

I took piano for 9 years and played flute throughout H.S. I didn’t like either.. I had no natural talent and it didn’t matter how much I practiced, I never got much better.

Inside workout for me too–lifting weights (what?!?!) I had planned on the stairmill too, but my quads are sore and I need them fresh for my tempo run tomorrow;-)

I took piano for about 5 years! And I’ve seen plenty of lemonade stands but never a bake sale one! Genius.

I have always wanted to play the piano but never did, I did play the clarinet in band though. haha
I have been experimenting with salad dressings making them out of olive oil, different vinegars (balsamic, coconut, red wine), agave and spices. So far best combo is olive oil, red wine vinegar, agave and salt and pepper.
Outside, going for a walk to get fro yo tonight! haha
Asparagus and cherry tomatoes. I also love it steamed in the microwave with dill on it.

I actually was a music major in college….I played almost everything but my main three were euphonium, tuba and trombone!

Reply

I took piano lessons for 8 or 9 years and then quit when I got into high school. I can still play a little, but I wish I was better!

I’m loving using edamame hummus & cottage cheese as dressings on my salad – or straight up balsamic.

My PT client and I walked outside this morning, but then the actual workout was inside.

We’ve been eating zucchini and squash like it’s going out of style! We’re about to start having to pick it from our garden, so it’s a good thing we love it so much.

Reply

I wish my parents had forced me to learn a musical instrument! I tried to teach myself the piano at one point but that only lasted a few days.

I will definitely be working out inside this afternoon. My car read 108 yesterday after work. Way too hot for a run outside, so a date with the treadmill it is!

Reply

I cried during a piano lesson once (I’m one of those people who HATES being bad at anything…which is unfortunate because I don’t have many talents lol. Plus the teacher was super mean!) and the teacher tried to bribe me into not telling my mom how upset I was with a piece of cake.

I did eat the cake…but I told my mom right after that I hated my piano teacher. So much for bribing me!

Reply

I’ve been loving beets lately yum! Your niece is so cute :)

Those desserts look so yummy!! That certainly beats a lemonade stand any day! ;)

I think I’m going to try my FIRST spin class today! I’ll have to let ya know how it goes!

I played piano too! I miss it and hope to one day have a piano in my house. I ran outside and finished up my workout with abs and burpees inside. :)

Man! That stand puts all other bake sale stands to SHAME! Why are they not on my corner? My older sister is all the kid’s favorite aunt because she too gives them cookies and candy. She watched my oldest a few weeks ago & took her to chick fil a & bought her flip flops at Old Navy. When she came home she told me she wished she had two mommys and two daddys & that her ‘other’ parents were my sis her her husband. lol.

My fave dressing is and might always be poppy seed dressing.

I just got done with my tempo run and some time on the bike. I want to do weights later today, but we will see if that actually happens. Have fun on the seat climber! I did that yesterday. Man that machine gets my HR up!

Asparagus is my fave vegetable. We eat it every year for my bday dinner.

I took piano lessons for a few years. I was not very good. I got to quit when dance took over my life and I had dance classes for several hours every day. I honestly don’t regret quitting. However, I wish I would have taken singing lessons when I was younger. I wish I could sing decently…not that that stops me ;)

Reply

I love asparagus but lately I have been making brussels sprouts because my husband loves them. Most people hate Brussels sprouts but it is the only vegetable my husband really likes.

My run was outdoors this morning.

Reply

Those coconut thingies on your plate of deliciousness look amazing!

Haha, did you ask your niece why she rested her arm on your neck? That’s hilarious!

I can play a little on the piano, but nothing worth writing home about…taking lessons is on my life list.

I love honey mustard salad dressing–it is also delicious on chicken nuggets :D

Workout will be a long walk outside–it’s gorgeous out!

Have a super day!

Reply

never learned to play the piano but my sister did, lucky! i did play the recorder in grammar school, does that count? ;)

ranch will always be my favorite salad dressing. but i guess if i’m not trying to consume a ton of calories on my salad then i love balsamic vinegarette ;)

workout was inside since it was rainy…4 miles on the treadmill and 30 mins on the elliptical and weights.

i eat a ton of spinach and brocc always but asparagus is so darn good too!

My best girlfriend is in her third trimester and so excited that she can eat deli meat again at Subway.

I always have dreamed of learning the piano and the guitar. I play piccolo/flute and was quite good. But my swim coach gave me the ultimatum and I ended up picking swimming.

Ranch & BBQ sauce. yumm.

Inside… the boyfriend is writing my workouts and he’s killing me. Today is some heavyish lifting! :)

What vegetable have you been eating the most of lately?
–Roasted brussel sprouts. To die for

Reply

I’ve never seen neighborhood kids having a bake sale – just lemonade stands. The lemonade is good, but I’d go crazy for a bake sale!

Reply

Ranch. I always, always love ranch dressing :)

Curly is trying to choke you out!

I took lessons for about 5 years. I wish I hadn’t stopped because it’s very difficult to re teach myself. I also played the clarinet for 3 years, but don’t know how much I remember because I haven’t picked it up in at least 4 years.

Balsalmic Vinagarette from Salata

Inside! Body Pump day! depending on how beat I am after weights, I might take it outside for a run.

Reply

Asparagus in the microwave??!!! Genius! How long do you cook it for?

I took piano lessons for 11 years=) I accompanied our school chorus and had a job playing in a local church. I rocked, if I do say so myself. But then I went to college and grad. school and went 6+ years without playing and now I’m out of practice, so to speak. It’s sad, really.

Reply

I played piano for almost 8 years. When I went off to college, piano was put on the back burner, but I still play every now and then.

I used to love all sorts of salad dressing, but lately my go-to topping has been olive oil and vinegar or lemon juice. Sometimes I like to add a little spicy mustard (is that weird? My husband says it’s weird) for a little tang.

I did a quick run outside for the Runner’s World Summer Run Streak Challenge, but ended up having to cut it short due to rain. :(

My go-to veggies have been asparagus, corn, and summer squash. I can’t wait until our local farmer’s market starts up again! Bring on the produce!

Reply

I took piano lessons as a kid and quit. As an adult regretted it and started taking lessons again. You can always start again! It’s way more fun as an adult because if you don’t practice they’re not nearly as surprised (you know, because I’m busy, not because I’m just too lazy to practice even if I have the time)

Reply

I will definitely be hitting the treadmill for a run today. I cannot run in the heat. I’m loving zucchini right now. Yum.

Reply

My nephews always end up with their arms across my neck. I don’t know why they do that…

Reply

My fav salad dressing is TJs peanut dressing or the TJs champagne vinagrette one. Love em!

My workout was inside today. I went to spin class and ran on the treadmill at the gym before I left. Its muggy out and super humid!

I’m not sure if its a veggie (It might be) but I’ve been eating tons of avocados lately. I also have asparagus this weekend on the grill and remembered how much I love it. I’ve never tried it in the microwave though! I’m intrigued.

Reply

ha! i just wrote about indoor vs outdoor running on my blog today! we must be thinking along the same lines.

Those mini pies look SO tasty!
I’ve never been an asparagus fan until this year. Now I can’t get enough!
I played piano for years but always despised it and never practiced. Now, I’m glad I know how to play!

Reply

I am a spinach freak lately (use oil and garlic to steam) – yum!

I am also loving the prepackaged salad packs. I had one last night mexican fiesta style and it had spicy ranch. I wanted to eat it by the pound.

Reply

I did play the piano when I was younger, and I sucked biiig time. My parents even bought a piano that I used I think twice in the whole time I attempted to play. What a waste. I’ve been eating so much roasted broccoli slaw lately, I can not get enough!

Reply

The Subways in So Cal have little signs in them that say pregnant ladies shouldn’t eat the meat, but you can just have them microwave it until it is steaming to kill whatever bacteria could be hanging out on that delicious meat. Subway has been my main craving during this pregnancy.
I bet you could get your piano skills back! At least you will know enough that you can teach your daughter seven years worth of piano!! So cool!

Reply

Do tell about this new asparagus- how long did he microwave it for?

Reply

I have the opposite issue with my husband right now – I’m killing myself at work for 8-10 hours a day and then I get texts about his 2 hour long class and then going home to sit on the couch. I will get my revenge some day.

No musical instruments for me. I don’t make the music, I interpret it (aka I dance).

I hate salad dressing. I eat all my salads dry.

Workouts will be mostly inside, but I am going to do a 1 mile run outside tonight to keep the RW streak going.

Nom nom nom broccoli nom nom nom.

Reply

I had asparagus last night, I love it!
I played the flute for like 5 years! I was actually second chair in my middle school band, hahah.
I love balsamic dressing, all the time.
Inside workout for me today :)
Spinach. I always eat so much spinach

i only took about 6 months of piano lessons but I took violin for 6 years. Very sad I quit now that I’m older.

I am so jealous of that bake sale! I would have wanted to sample everything though so my body probably thanks me that I didn’t happen to drive by it…haha.

I was always heating up my lunch meat but I got really sick of warm turkey. I read about it and the bacteria grows after a few days at fridge temps. Now I only buy freshly cut deli turkey, I break it up into induvidual baggies, keep it in the freezer (the bacteria can’t grow in that cold of temps), then I just thaw it when I want it and eat it only that day. That way I avoid any problems and I can have a cold sandwich :).

Hooray for Summer! I wish I didn’t have a job and could hangout with you and curly and eat baked goods all day long. How fun and you totally deserve it.

Soak up some rays for me. Can we please hangout before you move away. :( I was thinking about our epic PF dates last Spring and thinking we need to bring them back.

well to answer your questions first- I did play the piano around 7 years too. I quit to take up ballet,jazz/modern and tap dance. I don’t really regret it, as I can still play some tunes. My work out was indoors as it is thundering and lighting outside today. My vegetable(s) of the week are cucumbers and radishes. The ice cream and desserts look so yummy though- i would go for them over vegetables any day. Bummer about the softball! I wish Germans had AC in their buildings it is so hot here sometimes ! Your niece is adorable! Love her curly hair ~

My most recent vegetable… POTATO, ha. I should really get on something green.

Yes, I do play the piano, also. I used to play at church for many years.
I recently have been enjoying balsamic vinegar. Hmmm, strange craving.
I really love to eat spinach. I like juicing kale, carrots and celery.

I’m a piano teacher w/30 students…. love it! Luckily I was one of those kids that actually liked practicing. (I know… I know… don’t hit me now). It’s been a great stay-at-home mom job, and really rewarding (LOVE these kids!)

Just tried a new dressing & love it! BRAGG Ginger & Sesame dressing
