An Important Post-Run Color Swatch Table

Saturday mornings are made for long runs.  Now most of you probably woke up at a decent hour to get your long run in but I didn’t quite start until 11, I had a good nights sleep.

After a run I met up with my sis at Runner’s Corner to get her some new shoes.  I don’t know what it is about running stores but I could stay for hours looking at everything and talking to everyone.

She ended up getting the Kinvaras (the black and blue ones in the picture) and she is stoked.

Photo 3

I had to use the restroom while we were there and look what I found:  (Yes, it is kind of gross but I think it is important that we pay attention to this so that we can make sure that we are hydrating ourselves correctly)

Photo 6

Starting at the top left color swatch is:

1. A very hydrated spectator.

2. Hydrated spectator

3. Spectator with mild hangover.

4. Spectator who jogged to vital viewing points.

5. Well-hydrated walker/jogger who made it to mile 19

6. Finisher who got to know everybody’s name at the aid stations.

7.  Ran well within heart rate threshold and was able to chat throughout the race.

8. Pushed body steadily throughout and achieved goal time.

9. Looked at The Wall at mile 23 and ran right through it.  You PR’d and this is the ideal level of exertion and common sense.

10. Laughed when body said slow down and negative splits…still able to go to post-race party.

11. Ignored vital water stations to shave seconds.

12. WHOOPSIE…Skip party, go to doctor.

Now what am I doing?

Hooray for new running shoes, cereal, and gossip girl! What a great way to spend your last day of the year!

Today has been my first day of finally slowing down..it’s been so nice lounging around! I’ve been insanely busy working and filling out paperwork for my BIG SECRET. Well, it’s not a secret anymore, since I just spilled the beans to the blog world. hehe

Have a wonderful new years!

Saturdays really are made for long runs! I don’t know what I would do with myself if I couldn’t do long runs on Saturday. I love your sister’s shoes!

Happy New Years Eve!
I wear the Kinvara’s and I LOVE them!! The best shoes ever.
I am doing nothing today! Tapering, races next weekend and resting some knee pain- so no long run for me.
Making lots of unhealthy food and gearing up for a fun night in with the husband and kids.

I totally ate cereal today for my afternoon snack! Quaker Oatmeal Squares Maple flavor. I am trying to fight off a cold, so I have kept it low key today. I use New Balance for my running shoes, but recently purchased some Reebok’s. Can’t wait to try them out!

Ooh, off to study pee now…don’t think I hydrated very well post-race and will not be doing the right type of hydrating tonight!

I feel the same way about running stores. Sometimes people think I work there because I hang out for way too long. Should just apply for a job. ;)

Happy New Year!

I love the shoes she picked! And that pee chart is kinda gross. AND I do need to drink some more water. We always have Honey Bunches of Oats and Oatmeal in the house. Happy New Year!

hahaha that’s so funny :)

ps: whenever Logan is beside me while I’m reading your blog he always points at you and says “mommy” lol I’m like, “no Logan, that’s not mommy it’s the Hungry Runner Girl” ……he says “no, mommy” lol

That swatch isn’t gross, really, it’s actually quite useful! Many people don’t know what their urine looks like in relation to hydration (or lack thereof).

That pee chart is hilarious. Saturdays are my longer runs bc my DH can hangout with the kid and the dog. Almost an 8-mile run today. I’m so surprised how much faster I can go WITHOUT a chocolate lab and a jogging stroller :)

I’ve got a ton of cereals in my house. My new (old?) fave is corn chex… No idea why I bought it, but it is super yum with coconut milk and froz blueberries. The real question is how many types of milk do I have: almond, 1%, half and half, coconut…. I’m hungry.

And I’m rocking the brooks defyance, but I’m way overdue for a gait check and new running shoes.

I’m finally writing a comment but have been stalking your blog for a couple of weeks now. I live thousands of miles away in FL, but I feel like I already know you! Thanks to this blog, I now love fro yo–too bad I have to drive over a half hour to get some. To answer your questions: I’ve been at home with my two kiddos and was just able to go for a short run once the hubby got home from his side job. I have some Nike running shoes that I really need to replace but am too attached to do so. I love cereal, but don’t eat it too much. My favorite right now is Nature’s Path Pumpkin Flax Granola. Have a good start to 2012!

I have the Kinvaras and I LOVE them. I bought two pairs when they were on clearance for $39 last year; I got over 1000 miles (including three marathons and three half marathons, all PRs at the time) out of the first pair and only rotated them out when I realized my knees were achy – couldn’t tell from outsole breakdown at all. I’m now into my second pair and I just got another pair on clearance for $55 to have one waiting in the wings! Tell your sis if she likes them to snap up a pair on sale from Saucony right now – the ladies shoes (I wear mens because I have wide feet) are$40. Oh and use this coupon code: http://complicatedday.blogspot.com/2011/12/free-shipping-from-saucony.html

My shoes are the Saucony Hurricanes. I hate that I need stability shoes.

I have Trix, Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, I think that is it. I actually don’t like breakfast cereal. The one I like best is Bran Flakes. My son likes dry cereal as a snack. Since it is all fortified and full of sugar, what kind of Mom would I be without giving him cupsful?? ;)

My shoes are pink/neon green KSwiss. I am a running shoe whore :)

I drove back from Chicago to Indy. I was at the Chicago Blackhawks game last night.

Have a happy new year!

Happy 2012 friend!

I even blogged about it earlier thinking he would come soon after, and nope hasn’t emerged in our world yet. He has to though…its already on my site LOL!

I feel the same way about my local running store. Just like you can’t go to Costco and spend less than $100 you can’t go to a running store and spend less than an hour.

They are just so stinkin’ fun!

Hahahaha I love that poster!

The poster is great :)

I wear Nike LunarG’s. Got up this morning for a last run of the year but it was freezing rain :( We have Multigrain Cheerios and Something like Special K.

Happy New Year!

Ha, so I was measuring some tequila the other day and thought that it would be a good indicator of what urine should NOT look like.

My current workout shoes are Nike Free 3.0, and I ordered a pair (actually 2 to make sure I get the right size) of VFFs! I will be able to run in 2012, darnit!

For cereal I just have bran flakes that I got ages ago to use in a recipe… I never use them.

Reply

That poster is so funny! Today has been spent shopping and wasting money, no cereal for me.

Reply

I need new shoes! I wanna get the Mizunos that you have, I love Mizunos and need to get the updated pair. Also, you were the#1 referrer of hits to my blog so THANK YOU!! Love ya more than evahhh :) Stop by my blog tomorrow, I’m having a fun giveaway!! Have a fun night chicka!

I ran a really warm and dehydrated trail 50K this summer with Hubby and a friend. We thought producing patches that could be sewn into running shorts with these different pee colors would be very helpful in an ultra.

Nikes all the way. Errands, milkshakes, pizza, salads, new years loots (glow wands and blowers), and writing down all the races I need to do in 2012.

Trader Joes High Fiber, Everday Essential Shredded Wheat, and Super Nutty Golden Granola.

hahahaa that’s gotta be the best hydration chart thing I’ve ever seen…if only doctors put them in their offices! or for waiting-room entertainment!

those Kinvara’s look sweet! I’m a Brooks girl myself, right now I’m wearing Ghosts, but I really want to try the Defyance!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!1

Oh that chart is comedy!!!!!!! Pure comedy. We bought 4 boxes of cereal tonight. Not really sure what kinds, but I know there was some special k in there!

Reply

I just scored some wave rider 13 for only $30! And my brooks launch.

Today I did a 4 mile run and went out to Chinese food and then bowling where I beat everyone with my 150 and then played a ton of rock band. Now I’m blog stalking waiting for midnight so I can drink unhealthy amounts of sparkling cider.

I currently have special k yogurt and berries and chocolate cherrios. Unfortunately my milk is getting a little questionable.

Haha I think we should all have that poster hung up at home! I’m an Asics girl- if it aint broke, don’t fix right ;)! Happy NEw Years , girllll!

Happy New Year!!

And if anyone’s pee is ever that dark as any of those colors in the last row, they need to get to the hospital asap!

Asics Gel Nimbus 13s for me at the moment – in a nifty black and pink colour combination. I managed to get four pairs of Asics for less than the price of 3 in the sales, which I’m very chuffed about :) One pair of Cumulus, one Kayano, a spare pair of Nimbus 13s and some trail shoes!

That last row of colours worries me…my pee never looks like that unless I’ve been eating beets for lunch and dinner. TMI?

I can’t have cereal around me or I will eat the whole box in one go! My parents have Bran Flakes, Weetabix and some kind of muesli in their cupboards now though. Oh, and Shreddies (is it wrong that I just went to look specifically for answering this question?) Holy fibre!

Happy New Years Day! Excited to read more of your blog in 2012!

We are relaxing and soaking in the last few days of vacation before work resumes on Tuesday. Boo!!

Cereal in my house right now is a tad random – Frosted Mini Wheats chocolate flavor and Honey Nut Chex. Yes I am weird and mix them in one bowl. :)

Reply

Gahhh, orange or red pee? OUCH!

Cereals: Kashi Go Lean, Cheerios, PB Puffins, Erin Baker’s PB Homestyle Granola, and Nature’s Path Pumpkin Raisin Crunch… and I just enjoyed a mix of all of them on the couch- fabulously lazyyy Sunday morning ;)

1. Saucony – Sorry – I do not know the name (bad runner)
2. I have been in bed … all morning … Mr. … semplicemente … j went to ride his bike … I am waiting for my oldest to come back from her sleepover … waiting for my youngest to wake up (and Dante … my pup) to see if they can motivate me to run.
3. Rice Krispis and Crispix for me … (I know I am THAT heathy) … Kashi for my youngest and Special K for my oldest!

… now if they can only hurry to come back/wakeup/return home so I can eat … I am starving …

I love my Asics Kayanos! I got out and ran around noon yesterday, and I ran a great 8 miles!

Oh my current cereal fix is Fiber One Honey Squares mixed with Kashi Go Lean Crunch, chopped strawberries blueberries and almond milk!! I always mix cereals…

Yeah I have to say I’ve NEVER had brown tinkle… that’s dangerous sounding lol.

I definitely SLEPT IN today! I cannot remember the last time I was out so late… but started the day off right with a toasted English Muffin Egg White & Cheese sandwich I made with a side of cheese and Egg White Omelette because I couldn’t fit enough Egg and Cheese on my muffin ;)

Your sis got cute shoes! Happy New YEars!
