Bum Cushioning and the Elliptical

IMG 4947 1

What is that in my hand you might ask……you probably didn’t even notice anything was in my hand because you were too busy wondering how long my shoes were untied before I finally tied them or the fact that my neck is 3 different shades of orange (I get lazy with washing my self-tanner off).

I am holding a bike seat.  My cutest friend Misha surprised me at my spin class this morning with a CUSHIONED BIKE SEAT. Every fiber of my being thanks you Misha, you have saved me and my posterity.   It is like sitting on marshmallows.

After spin, I did a few weights and then I went SWIMMING!!!!  One hour of swimming and I was speedier today….Watch your back Michael Phelps, I am right behind ya in the pool but we know I could beat you in an eating contest any day…..13,000 cals a day. Easy.

Half way through my swim they closed off 2 of the 3 lanes for water aerobics.  There were 4 people in the class and they were only using the corner of the pool and yet they closed 2/3 of the pool for it, forcing 3 of us into one lane to swim.  Shut Up and Run.….I feel your pain.

The Physical Therapist is going GREAT, I am seeing him everyday and we are seeing a lot of improvements in my mobility and the pain is going down slowly but surely.  I GET to try out the elliptical on Saturday…..yes, that sounds lame but to me that is a HUGE deal.  It is one step closer to RUNNING.

For your viewing pleasure……a sweaty gross picture of me on the elliptical from a few months ago.

IMG 0639

I was thinking about how excited I am to use the elliptical on Saturday when before the whole injury thingee I DREADED it.  From now on I will not complain about the elliptical and be thankful for beastly machine.

In case you were wondering why I haven’t commented on your blog in the last little bit it is because 94% of my day is either spent cross-training or in the PT office. Rest assured, I am still your number one stalker via my iphone…….as I am biking, I stalk……as I am getting electrotherapy, I stalk.  I still know everything that is going on in your life but I just can’t comment when using my phone.  Believe me, I can’t LIVE without your blogs……that would be like going a day without calling your bff…….impossible.

—————————————————————————————–

Random questions of the day:

Do you do your make-up first or do you do your hair first when you are getting ready or do you switch off.

-I put on my make-up before I do my hair because I would rather run out of time on that then only have eyeliner on one eye because I had to run out the door, plus lets be honest, I wear a ponytail 90% of the time.  When I do happen to wash my hair….I blow dry my hair and put on make-up at the same time, talent people, talent.

Speaking of Michael Phelps…….do you have any athlete crushes?

-My sister has a crush on John Stockton….weird.  I would have to chose Billy Jacobs, the future 10k champion.

Do you dread the elliptical?

-Used to but now I can’t wait!!

What are/did you have for dinner…..I can’t figure out what to make, help me out!!

My one claim to fame is that I went to high school with Michael Phelps' sister. Ha! I always do my hair first, somehow! And I haaaate the eliptical. I think I'm too short for it!

Reply

Wow, an hour of swimming!! I like to switch up my hair/make up routine :) I hope your leg gets better soon!!!

Had to be #2…I'm never! Hope i still am after this.
Any way, I always put my makeup on first. My hair is pulled back cause i can't stand it in my face while I'm applying.

I hate the eliptical, can't stand the darn thing.
No crushes for me… :(
Feel your pain on the bike seat…my ahem..always hurts so bad!

Here's what I had for dinner: an apple mixed with cottage cheese and yogurt, toast with pb & banana, and a bowl of cereal. My roommates just stared as I wolfed all that down but I started this morning with TWO yoga classes, Insanity, & a 3 mile walk…my metabolism is a callin'!

Reply

I don't do my make up OR my hair. hahahahha.

Reply

What do you use to read blogs on your phone?? I have the Reader app but wonder if there is something else.

I dry my hair, put my make up on, then straight my hair. If I wear it wavy then I put stuff in it, dry it a little, put on make up, then dry it a little more. It usually ends up in a ponytail half way through the day anyway!

I ate chicken nachos because I had left over chicken, cheese, and salsa from tacos last night!

What a nice gift! A cushioned spin seat sounds awesome.
I'm not a big elliptical fan, but the arctrainer is awesome as long as I have some entertainment – music, TV, phone, all of them.
I've had the biggest crush on David Beckham for years now!

Reply

I do make-up first so that my hair has a chance to air-dry.

YOUR SISTER AND I ARE TWINS! I have THE HUGEST crush on John Stockton. Seeing him in the stands at the Gonzaga/BYU game was heavenly.

We had breakfast burritos for dinner. And they rocked!

Reply

even tho im a makeup artist, i hardly eva wear makeup, weird!? but i usually switch back and forth because i have looong hair and i need breaks when im drying it :)

athlete crush is YOU ;)

elliptical is okay but i loove the bike!

having red velvet fro yo for dinner. Mmmmm

Reply

I had egg whites and wasa crackers for dinner, which sounds boring but I'm baking peanut butter muffins and cinnamon chip scones later so I'm saving room!

I dread the elliptical. I think the feet are too wide for my hips. It makes my knees hurt!

Reply

I HATE HATE HATE swimming with the water aerobics people. They make a bunch of waves, and what they do is barely exercise. Swimmers refer to them as "water buffalo" because we are bad people. I hope you are having fun with swimming! It's so cool.
P.S. Ryan Lochte is hotter than Phelps. Look him up.

Reply

We had breakfast for dinner. The eggs were piling up! I'm so glad that you got a comfy seat to spend your time on. And good for you and the pool. I wish I could get myself to like it. It would be so good for me! I do my make up while the flat iron is heating up. I'm glad you're getting better!

Reply

I usually do my hair and make-up at the same time.

I don't dread the elliptical, but I don't care for it because my feet always fall asleep.

So glad things are looking up for you!

Reply

strangely I get the whole John Stockton thing. I have an athlete crush but at this moment I cant remember who- migraine. Salmon burger and spinach salad for dinner.

Reply

haha I was actually thinking about the whole makeup/hair thing TODAY in my gym lockerroom, wondering what the most efficient process was. if it's summer, blowdrying hair is not necessary so I go right to makeup. if it's cold out, I will blow dry a little, do makeup + let hair air dry a bit, then finish blowdrying. (Why do I think so much about these things?)

Reply

i do my hair first then makeup if i have time…most of the time i only wear mascara anyways…im a student and i'm married and my husband loves me anyway! hehe :)

Reply

Hair first, bc I am easily sweaty, and i don't want to ruin my make up.

ROBINSON CANO. WHAT A CUTIE!!!!

I do not particularly like the elliptical, but i'm trying to pretend that I do

TOnight i had roasted veg (yellow squash, zucchini, red pepper and mushroom) and Turkey Meatballs with frozen spinach and feta mixed in, SUPER YUM.

SO glad things are looking up for you :)

Reply

I loathe cardio machines, but I bet I would change my mind if that was the only exercise I was allowed to do.

I do hair first because I rarely have time for both and I don't feel like I need make-up even though I enjoy wearing it.

Reply

I always do makeup first! Cause at that point my hair is up and out of my face:)

I need a seat cushion so. bad. that would complete my life! My bootay is getting a bit ouchy from all of the biking I've been doing booo.

Reply

Def always do my make up first. I like to know that once my hair is done, I am ready to go!

Prefer Arc Trainer over Elliptical.

Dinner was crazy over here! Stromboli and a smmmoooothie

Reply

It depends on how much time I have – hair first if I have longer, makeup first if not…I rarely blow-dry my hair anymore! We are about to eat – Billy is in there cooking sweet potatoes. I'm about to make black beans and broccoli – my kind of meal. :)

SOOO glad to hear your pain is decreasing and you get to try the elliptical on Sat!! I dread it for the most part, but like it when I want to pass the time and watch TV.

Reply

p.s. the tracking shows your package arrived to Salt Lake City today…so it should get there tomorrow! Sorry it's taken all week…but it'll be worth it. xo

Reply

I use to only do the elliptical. Then I started running. And I went back to it the other day… much easier than running. I noticed this and thought it was weird… I was on the elliptical and I did 2 miles in 30 minutes and burned 350 calories, according to the machine. I think it was broken.

Reply

Whew! Glad to know you're not commenting on anyone's blogs. I was getting a complex–I thought you were breaking up with me!

Athletic crush: I <3 Matt Holliday.

I usually do my makeup first. Hair can always go into a ponytail!!! ;)

Athlete crushes… hmm… can't think of any… i guess i don't watch enough games to know who is cute.

I don't dread the elliptical, sometimes it's a nice break from the treadmill. I'm gonna elliptical it up tomorrow in prep for my half on Saturday.

Dinner tonight is PF Changs… lettuce wraps baby!!!! Then fro yo. Gotta celebrate the hubby's birthday right, ya know. :)

Tonight I am making honey glazed cod, brown rice and broccoli!

Reply

I'm glad to hear your PT is going so well!

-I'm with you on make-up first, worse case scenerio the hair can go up. (just like you, thats how I wear it 90% of the time)

I don't really have an athlete crush, maybe I should fine one?

Yes I sort of do dread the elliptical, but I don't go to the gym lately so I don't really have the chance to use one either.

Dinner tonight was a boring ole spinach/romaine salad with avocado and chicken and Newman's Own Light Sesame Ginger Dressing (the best ever) Boring yes, but still delicious!

Reply

I switch it up!! I normally straighten my hair out first if there are any bumps from sleeping on it then do my makeup. Neither usually take very long bc I'm lazy. GIRL you are amazing for these workouts you rule!

Reply

Funny how injury changes your perspective on things like the elliptical ;-) I am so glad things are moving in the healing direction for you!

Hair…make up… :D. You're too funny! I tie up that ponytail and glide on that cherry chapstick in no particular order.

I was going to have pie for dinner again…but it's all gone :P

Reply

Glad you're getting better little by little, Janae! A positive attitude is half the battle, and you've got that down pat.

Dinner for me was the most random ever tonight. Steamed edamame, pretzels, and a huge bowl of cereal with strawberries!

How do you like the NB Revlites? I took mine back b/c my hip ached when I ran in them. I was curious to see what you thought…

Usually hair then make up, but actually I start with my hair then do some make-up, back to hair, get dressed, back to hair. . . It takes FOREVER to dry!

Athlete crushes: Milan Lucic! When I watched the world cup I had crushes on 49% of the players (David something from Spain!). I've always had a "thing" for athletes :D.

I love all your questions — so much fun to answer.

I do my makeup first while my hair is still wrapped up in a towel. Also so my bangs don't make it harder.

Athlete crushes: Fabien Cancellara.

And I have an intense hatred for the elliptical, which is why I never ever use it.

Reply

cutie pie! i bought a cushion like that for my actual bike cuz im a baby! LOL

athlete crush: dwayne wade. hands down.

gotta do the hair first. if i do my makeup first i'll just sweat it all off b/c of my super powerful hair dryer that i need for my ridiculously thick hair.

I sooo hear you on the crazy closing lane rules during water aerobics classes. I've been shuffled into a single lane with 3 other really strong swimmers before, so a few ladies could bust out their moves aka. "workout" in a huge pool. Am I being cruel? Perhaps. But not a fan.

Reply

MM girl you can change your blog to Hungryrunningswimmingtwinnieswithlolz Blog.

I like the eliptical and Arctrainer because it kept my endurance up when I was injured.

Reply

I'm a fan of Andy Roddick. I actually don't mind the elliptical too much. That's usually what I do when I don't feel like running!

Reply

well i don't really ever do my hair. so i'm not sure what that makes it, first or second hahah! maybe first as it does get some lovin' in the shower beforehand

Reply

Can't do the elliptical, hurts the hip. I know what you mean about being grateful for those things you can do, even if you hate them before. Swimming is like that for me, which is what I'm so impressed you're in the pool for an hour. Next is water running, right??? You know I am the expert. I will come up there and show you the ropes.

Reply

For some odd reason I have never been able to do the elliptical. I have tried and tried but it always hurts my butt and legs. Id rather run twenty minutes on the treadmill then do a minute on the elliptical. Maybe one day I will figure it out.

I definitely do my hair before my makeup. Right now my hair is too short for a ponytail….well one without a million bobby pins at least, so I have to style my hair if I wash it. And if I just blow dry it and not style it, well it's just a huge fro throughout the day. Pretty sure no one wants to walk around with cousin itt.

Oh, and swimming sounds lovely right now. I don't have a gym membership right now so I have to wait until summer to bum friends pools.

Reply

I had a freebirds burrito for dinner!! I dead the elliptical or any cross training for that matter…. I just like to run! :)

Reply

Makeup first!!

I hate the elliptical it makes my toes fall asleep.

I did my yasso 800's in the water today then hit my bike trainer!

Reply

I ALWAYS do make-up (the little bit of it that I do) before hair. My hair is short so I have to leave it wet to keep it off my face.

I don't have any specific athlete crushes, but I think soccer players are my type.

I don't dread the eliptical but I always feel like it hinders my stride. Like I can't move my legs as fully as when I run, and that usually feels pretty annoying.

Dinner tonight was Shrimp Pad Thai. It was the first time I'd tried to make it. My and the hubby liked it…the kiddos, not so much. Your salads always look so good!

Reply

I read blogs on my iphone all the time! But I can comment..why can't you? I have a question on my blog tonight that maybe you can answer..let me know if you get a chance to check it out! And always makeup first then hair!

Reply

I definitely do my hair first. If I put makeup on first, it'll get all sweaty and gross from the blow dryer/hair straightener!

Reply

I've recently graduated to the elliptical as part of my recovery – I thought I would be grateful to be allowed on it but nope, it still SUCKS! It makes my feet feel all tingly and bizarro and man I hate that thing…I just spend double the time on the bike and go hard instead :)

Reply

I do my makeup first because I know what it's going to be… hair is trickier! Athletes crush? Um hey Dwayne Wade… you're super cute =). SO glad PT is going well, you're going to dominate the elliptical beautiful girl!

Reply

I just pick one, hair or make up, and skip the other!

Reply

I am like a robot, same routine every morning. Always make-up first. That is top priority. Then cute outfit, then hair.

I love people who are so nice! I am glad you toush will be taken care of. :)

Reply

I love the elliptical! And all of my athlete crushes are hockey players… and PJ Stock, an ex-player who does commentary during Hockey Night in Canada!! LOVE HIM!!

Reply

I HATE the elliptical. It makes my knees feel weird and it bores me to tears. My biggest athlete crush is probably Peyton Manning. I'm actually a huge Giants fan, but I just love the Mannings in general so Peyton (and the Colts) are my number two. He's adorable and makes hilarious commercials and I love him.

For dinner I had a Mexican vegetarian salad the size of my head that I brought home so I could add a mountain of roasted broccoli to it. I had an AWFUL run today – one of those ones where your body just totally shuts down on you and you have no choice but to stop. Needless to say, I was ready for a Mexican salad the size of my head. But now I'm making a couple of lasagnas to freeze and bring to my sister in law's because she just had a baby, and the smell of them cooking is KILLING me!!

Reply

i made black bean veggie enchiladas for me and chicken for whit! they turned out great!

Reply

Last night i made a salad with lettuce, corn, black beans, a little shredded cheese and an amazing salsa vinaigrette! All i did was take a few spoonfuls of salsa, about a tablespoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of red wine vinegar. It was sooo good and made me think of you because i know you love salsa on your salad!

Reply

Makeup first, because I don't want my hair in the way. Have you ever had your hair get stuck to a freshly mascara-ed eyelash? No bueno.

Madison Bumgarner (SF Giants) is my lover-man. Someday he will see me at a game and he'll run up into the stands and sweep me off my feet because it's love at first sight. My shrink says I need to work on separating fantasy from reality..pssshh, riiiiight.

I actually love the elliptical for cardio, mostly because I hate running (but I love your blog since it allows me to live vicariously) and my gym doesn't have a pool. Plus I can prop up a trashy celebrity gossip magazine and look at pictures of skinny famous people while I work out. It's simultaneously entertaining/motivating/depressing.

Dinner was green bean fries using Jessica's recipe from How Sweet It Is, a strawberries & spinach salad (no dressing, but it worked), and a can of tuna with ketchup. Girl needs her veggies and protein.

Reply

I do my makeup first too…my hair dries a tiny bit while doing makeup so it takes less time to dry it. Plus I only wash my hair every few days anyways!

My athlete crush…David Beckham of course!

I'm not much of an elliptical fan.

Dinner was Olive Garden! Salad, breadsticks, and Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo! Half of the pasta/plus 2 breadsticks are in my fridge now for tomorrow! :)

Reply

You are so adorable–yay for squishy bike seats! Now, I banana seated spin bike–that's what you need!

I go back and forth, but always have the foundation/concealor in place in the event I lose power–even toned skin is my friend :)

P.s. I hope I didn't miss this, but WHEN is Billy's first race? :)

Reply

I am so glad that you are able to stay active and get back to the gym. I hate when I cant workout, but I grin and bare it.
My morning routine is the SAME every morning. I wake up, make my bed, run to the shower (yes, run), hop in the shower and wash as fast as possible, then get out and get dressed(laid clothes out the night before), blow dry my hair and run the straightner through it once it is dry, finally I put on make up and then I am ready to eat breakfast! I get ready as fast as I can so I can enjoy breakfast and read blogs! :)

Reply

Roasted broccoli for din! And when I actually do my hair, I do it first. But most weekdays I also just throw it in a ponytail and make sure my makeup is done.

Reply

If I'm blow drying and straightening my hair I'll do my hair first, otherwise my face will get all sweaty (mainly in summer) and nasty and my make-up will slide off. otherwise I generally do my make-up first, then throw my hair in some crappy messy bun. If I'm just headed into town I'll just rake a comb through my hair, throw on some make-up and I'm out the door. I don't have anyone to impress in Wal-Mart.

I'm sure you've already eaten dinner and are now in bed, but my dinner was a fried chicken thigh (skin removed…), about 1/4 cup mashed taters and about 1/3 cup corn (I ate someone's leftovers…), then I had a little bit of ice cream, then came home and had some oatmeal because I've been craving it like a pregnant lady craves pickles and ice cream (at least, I hear they crave it a lot…)

The elliptical, yes, I dread it, but I am also SO thankful for it!

Reply

I love the elliptical! It's the only machine I don't mind being on.

Reply

Elliptical is good but my #1 cardio machine is the ARC. Love it! Glad your PT is going well. I started on Monday for my back injury. I am already noticing a difference! For dinner tonight, I fixed Pastichio and a glass of Pinot. Perfect way to end a stressful work week.

Reply

Always, always do my makeup first. Your hair can be a hot mess but as long as your face is purty your all good!

Reply

I dry my hair first. I think I got into this habit because in the summer, it feels like my makeup melts off if I do my makeup before I dry my hair. :-P

I don't dread the eliptical anymore! I used to because I felt like I couldn't get the hang of it. It wasn't until someone told me to pretend like I was running that I started looking like I knew how to work the machine haha. Sometimes it makes my feet numb (idk why) so that's not fun.

Reply

I actually WAS wondering why your shoes were untied :).

I hate the elliptical, but it's mostly because I don't feel like I'm doing anything and my feet always fall asleep (I must be doing something wrong, right?).

My hair doesn't take a lot of doing (I get out of the shower and towel dry), but if I'm straightening it, I to that first then my makeup.

I can't decide on dinner yet, I just ate breakfast! But I had pb stirfry last night.

Reply

My hair is soooo naturally curly that if it dries at all after I get out of the shower, it is a HOT HOT MESS!!

Hahah…Billy Jacobs the future 10k champion! I love it! He is pretty awesome!

No athlete crushes for me.

I love love love the elliptical. When I got back into the gym, I found it to be the only other machine(treadmill first, of course) that really got me dripping with sweat :)

Reply

Sooooooo we had Chipotle burrito bol's last night. Long trainer ride right after work left no cooking time :(

Glad you have progress on the injuries :) I just came from that boat and it sucked. Not looking back!

My hair is short, I shake my head after I shower and call it good. No makeup either ;)

Reply

I put my make up on and then do my hair.
Athletic crush would definitely have to be one or all of these college basketball players…super hot!
I don't do the elliptical very much, so I guess I don't dread it.
I had salmon and mac-n-cheese for dinner last night, yum!

Reply

I neeeeeeed a cushioned bike seat!

Reply

For dinner, I made this crock pot chicken santa fe thing. It's [retty good inside a whoe wheat tortilla.

That's great that you got the cushioned bike seat!! That should really help.

When I actually wear makeup I put it on before doing my hair… not really sure why though.
