Friday Favorites!

10 miles @ 8:37 pace before Andrew went to work and then straight to mom life.

One of the hardest parts for Brooke after getting her tonsils out is how hungry she is because nothing sounds good, and everything hurts to eat.

I told her we would drive around until she saw something that caught her eye and a crepe store did just that…

It may have taken her 52 minutes to eat this with the smallest bites ever but she left actually feeling full.

It was the timed mile for my cross-country after-school program. We do the mile at the beginning and towards the end and it was so fun to see how many kid’s times improved! Skye took 2 minutes off of her mile and she did that in crocs!

I have a feeling somebody wants something when I saw him voluntarily mopping…

Excited to do this workout again this weekend:

Now for a few favorites!

*I planned on writing about TO THE GORGE on my next Friday Favorites post because I decided I was going to spend a chunk of my Mother’s Day reading it cuddled up next to my fire, but that won’t happen because I opened it to start with a few pages and finished it within 24 hours of opening it. Emily. Your book was stunning. Your writing made me feel like I was right there next to you, and your grief was so raw. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us all. I now want to live bigger and adventure more.

*Of course, I had to go back and find a picture from the time I hung out with Emily many, many years ago. I was obsessed with her blog. It felt like the biggest treat to read her memoir. Does anyone recognize the other bloggers in this picture?

*I saw this first on Julie’s blog, and because her hair is always stunning, I had to try this triple bond complex myself. I’m in love. I just put two pumps in my damp hair, and it feels so much better. My hair has been breaking off from bleaching it, and it already feels so much better after a few weeks of using this!

*Molly told me about this article about Connor and Clayton that came out in the New York Times. I had goosebumps reading about their friendship because there is just something so different about the connection with running partners. I also loved this part, “At times, Mr. Young and Mr. Mantz sound less like competitors and more like an old married couple. They know how to compromise. (Mr. Young likes to run later in the morning, while Mr. Mantz is an earlier riser. They meet in the middle, at 7 a.m.) They can press each other’s buttons — like when Mr. Mantz pushes the pace during a workout, at times to Mr. Young’s frustration — but they also know when to lay off.”

Seeing them around town training together and laughing during the easy miles has been so fun for me.

*Getting a text like this from my niece. I guess I have to do it too now;)

*Andrew and I have a summer trip planned together (it includes scuba diving ahhhh). I bought this amazon swim coverup and it is officially the cutest swim coverup I have ever had. I tried to take a picture of it on but felt awkward haha so here is the amazon picture. IT IS SO CUTE ON!

Anything fun going on this weekend?

Janae! I am still catching up on your blog after being somewhat offline the past several weeks after I had my baby boy (his name is Nate). It was a crazy time- emergency c section and a NICU stay, but we are back home and all healthy now! :) Just wanted to tell you that your blog helped keep me sane during our extended hospital/NICU stay- it was a little touch of my normal routine during a crazy time to “check in” with you. Thank you for that. Also, just purchased To the Gorge based on your recommendation. I’ll listen to the audiobook while nursing/pumping, and I can’t wait to get into it. Happy Friday!

EMILY. Congratulations on sweet baby Nate! I am so happy for you and that you are all home healthy now. Those few weeks must have been so hard in the NICU. You are so strong. Thank you for letting me join you and please let me know what you think of Emily’s book. She is incredible. Happy Mother’s Day, Emily!

I actually have that swim cover-up in my cart! Good to know it is really cute on!
This weekend will be fairly low key. Girl’s lunch on Saturday with my mother-in-law, sis-in-law, and aunt. Then my hubby and I have theater tickets for Sunday evening.
So exciting for your niece! And yes, now you will have to do it too 😊
Have a great Friday Janae

I recognize all those bloggers. I totally miss Skinny Runner;] I wish we could have a life update , more kids ? I have followed Emily since she worked in D C . She wore Hokas way back then , so i wore Hokas ;] She is amazing…so fun to see that picture..

I DO TOO! I have no idea what she is up to. Emily totally started the Hoka trend. I hope you have a wonderful day, Stori!

Have Brooke gargle with warm salt water. The salt water takes the pain away and any inflammation…. you’ll have to do it every few hours but it works wonders. Also works if your gums are sore after a tooth pull or dental cleaning etc.. game changer..I had my tonsils out when I was 6 so I know the experience.. :( xoxo

We haven’t tried that yet… I totally will today! Thank you, Elke. I hope you have a beautiful weekend!

OK, so driving around until Brooke sees something that sounds good to eat is the SWEETEST! You are such a good mom, Janae! Hope she’s on the mend.

Oh thank you! I feel desperate at this point! I was so happy we found something… off to do the same today! Thanks Ali, have a beautiful weekend!

We’ve had a chaotic month+ of me being the sole earner, but the husband officially has a new gig, so I am officially relaxing! We are SO excited/relieved. It’s going to be gorgeous this weekend – 70-80 degree temps here – so that means less cooking/cleaning & more playing/family biking/doing anything outdoors.
Way to go Skye on the Crocs mile! I can’t even walk without tripping in crocs, much less run- Amazing! And you are a super mom for driving around & finding success in getting Brooke something she’d enjoy! Sounds like a tough surgery to recover from.
I think your “fun workout” does sound like a fun challenge, I’ll have to try it! I have to remember how to get my current pace to display better on my Garmin – right now I’m calculating them in my head because I switched the display to be really simple while I was just doing run-walks while pregnant.
Happy Mom’s Day Weekend!

Katie! That must have been so stressful but I am so happy that he has his new job. What a relief! You are amazing. That sounds like the perfect weekend! Haha same… I don’t think I could run as fast as she did in crocs. Oh you are so nice, I just am desperate to have her eat and drink. Thank you, Katie. YOU TOO!

Brooke beat me to the crepes, yay! That was so sweet of you to drive her around until something sounded do-able. I don’t understand why but I don’t really like Nutella. I should, I love hazelnuts & chocolate?

Skye running in crocs, she’s a little firecracker.

That old pic made me miss all those blogs, SkinnyRunner & Runningoffthereeses, and Emily & Sarah too. I’m so glad you’re still blogging!

I really think we need to force them to all start blogging again. It was so fun getting their life updates! Haha right? I told her I am taking her to the track to see what she can do with running shoes on. You know, I once hated Nutella but lately it tastes better and better to me. Maybe give it another try? Thank you, Tracy. I hope your day is a beautiful one!

Poor Brooke! I feel her pain. I’m wracking my brain trying to think about what I ate when I had my tonsils removed, but I probably was just like her, sick of everything. What about blended up oatmeal with peanut butter? I’m sure you’ve probably exhausted so many options, sorry! And I’m hit or miss with nutella…I feel like it’s too sweet on its own, but I like it in things!

I love your book recommendations, and have read so many of them partially because Kristin Hannah is also my favorite! Spotify has To The Gorge as an audiobook being released in July! I’ve pre-ordered it. If you aren’t tapping into Spotify’s free audiobooks everyone, you’ve got to! 15 hours a month without waiting in lines on Libby! Happy Mother’s Day Janae! I really enjoy this blog and this community!

Have a great weekend!!! Have you tried protein pudding with fun toppings for Brooke? Or PB and J tortilla roll ups? Just a thought. Some book ideas “The Culture Code” amazing by Daniel Coyle. And just started “Lessons in Chemistry” and loving it.

Oh my gosh! I literally just looked up Skinny Runner Girl and Run Eat Repeat this week!! toooo funny! I saw Monica has a podcast so I’m going to have to listen. I miss SR. I loved her sarcasm. She was a hoot!!!

I miss Cely so so much. It truly felt like losing a really good friend when she stopped blogging. I know she was doing what was best for her but it was still so sad. Janae, I really (very selfishly) hope you never stop. I would miss you very much too.
