Does it haunt you too?

(Shoes, pants, shirt, and I’m just hoping I can put my gloves and headbands away VERY soon.)  I ran 9 miles at an 8:35 pace. My legs were very aware of the hill climbing I had done the day before.

The day he gets to go to school with them will be the best day of his life.

Andrew buzzed Beck’s hair, which aged him about ten years, in my opinion.

I made a rookie mistake by storing our puzzles and card games within reach of toddlers… Beck had his friend over, and while I was cleaning the fridge and thinking they were playing with Magnatiles, they dumped out a few puzzles and mixed them together.

Some new springish nails.

Cross Country for our elementary has begun!  This is my 3rd year coaching, and I write more details about it in this post.

Running was not my thing in elementary school, so I am always shocked by how many kids come out and run with us a few times a week.  The beads they earn after each practice are the #1 motivator for many of them.

Dinner was quick. I added some shrimp to this spaghetti carbonara from TJ’s, along with roasted brussels on the side, and it was amazing. I’ll be stocking my freezer with these.

Andrew ate later when he got home and assumed it was homemade!

A friend of mine just ran a PR in her half marathon over the weekend.  She was so excited about it but told me how the 8 seconds she was off from her A goal was haunting her.  It got me thinking about the 29 seconds that still haunt me, haha.  I don’t see myself ever running this fast of a marathon again because I think this big of a downhill marathon was a one-and-done for me (my body can’t quite handle too much downhill anymore), and so being 29 seconds away from a 2:39 will forever haunt me;). Isn’t it funny how a few seconds can bug you so badly after a race even though, in the moment, you were giving every last ounce of yourself?!  Runners are strange.

Is anyone haunted by a race where they were just a bit off from their goal, and you still think about it?

Did you like running in elementary school?

Have you made any rookie mistakes in life lately?

Beck wants to know if you have seen Sandlot.  After Andrew showed it to him, it is his #1 favorite topic right now.

Hi, Beck!!!
Funny, but I’m mildly haunted by less than a minute off my ‘B’ goal! My ‘A’ was to run sub-4 and ‘B’ was BQ (under 3:55 at the time). I got 3:54:11, so did both, but then missed the Boston invitation by 0:49 because of the field size that year. I always said I didn’t want to run that hilly, crowded course in an afternoon race, but I would have proudly worn the shirt/jacket, LOL!
I hated running in elementary school.
I forgot to get solar eclipse glasses, and we were in the 87% zone.
Sandlot is one of my favorites!!! I have TWO t-shirts that say, “You’re killing me, Smalls!”

LESS than a minute off. You can definitely be haunted by that because YOU HIT both of your goals and because of the field size you didn’t get it. I’m haunted for you. And your race description just made me laugh so hard. Never heard it described like that but it is right on. 87% zone, wow! I bet it was so dark. Off to get that shirt for beck! Have a beautiful day, Corey!

That looks like one mega puzzle for the kids to solve on a Friday night. Godspeed.
I didn’t even like running when I chose to start running on my own. This has to be the case of most runners-right??

Bahaha I threw them all away because I knew my brain would break trying to sort them. I definitely think it is the case for most runners… so what is it that made you start? A race? Health? Feel free to answer at your convenience haha. Have a great day, Molly!

OMG…. I made such a rookie dog owner mistake yesterday! I know better than to leave things around that Nala could potentially chew on when I leave, but that’s what I did… I left for a quick 4 mile run, she’ll barely realize I’m even gone. I gave her a quick pet before I left, noticed my Oofos were sitting on the couch, but didn’t think anything about it. I came home a little bit later, she ate the thong part of one of my Oofos!!! I really thought she was past this chewing on shoe phase! Learned my lesson.
Yay for cross country with the elementary school! I did not like running when I was young, unless it was outside of school, ha ha.
We are having some incredible summer like weather for a while, so my son’s girlfriend and I are heading to the beach today! Love that my schedule can be so flexible.
Hi Beck! Thanks for helping your mom with her work ☺️
Have a great day Janae!

NOOOOOOOOOO WENDY! Not your oofos! Hahah Nala got to work on those things fast. Thanks for empathizing with me in this rookie mistake. Have the best time with her at the beach, I want to come. Thank youuuuuuu!

Beck is such a cutie! I ran Boston last year and was on track to get a PR until about two miles from the finish line when I had a serious bathroom emergency. I had two choices — one, get that PR and a whole lot of embarrassment, or two, miss the PR and spend five minutes in the port-a-potty. I chose number 2 (pun intended haha), and though I’m glad I did, it still makes me mad that my legs and lungs weren’t the ones to do me in. So frustrating!
I started running casually when I was 9 because my dad was a runner. I think if my elementary school had cross country, I totally would have joined.

I wish so bad we were able to meet in Boston last year! Bahahaah I chose number 2 also;). I am so sorry that your gut wasn’t in the same place the rest of your body was… you will get that race where it all comes together. I love that you started running because of your dad. It will always remind you of him! Hope your day is a beautiful one, Stacey.

Haunted is exactly the right word! Last year I was 12 seconds off from a sub-3:30 at Boston. It was still a PR for me (and at the ripe old age of 41), but those 12 seconds… woof.

Have a good day!

12. Seconds. UGGGG I get it, Margie but still, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. PRing at 41…. you are goals. Hope you are having a beautiful morning so far!

LOL, I ran Big Bear in 2023 and my A goal was a 3:35 and I ran a 3:23:08. Ha, 8 seconds but I was so shocked that it didn’t really matter!

Sandlot is the best!

You absolutely smashed your goal!!!!

Sandlot is the best! My youngest (also a Beck) used to watch it on repeat when he was younger. Side note, my milk came in with my first baby while I was nap “watching” it. You don’t have to tell Beck that but the movie always reminds me of it!

Maybe this is more frustrated than haunted, but my A goal has been a sub-90 minute half for years, and I have been 1 or 2 minutes off in sooo many attempts!! 1:30:54 is my current PR. I am DYING to see 1:29:XX as my finishing time one day!
