The stress. 200 miles in a tunnel. Little Concerned.

(Top, leggings, shoes)

12.12 miles @ 8:29 average, and peak week is officially halfway over.

I like how my new watch asks me how I feel at the end of the run.  It’s really polite.

The stress of getting your kids into BYU sports camps in the summer… It seriously sold out within 90 seconds.  My fingers hurt afterward from typing so quickly.

The sun peaked out for about 4 minutes, and Andrew pulled us outside to stand in it and absorb as much as possible.

Nothing like winter salad out of a bag for second dinner while playing a matching game.m

Because we did nothing much but try everything we could to get Brooke feeling healthy again… Today will be another tangentish day with things that I’ve seen and been deep in thought about:

*I have told you this about 200 times but cannot wait to watch the trials.  Whoever is in the area, maybe we should have a viewing party together? The trials will be Jenny Simpson’s FIRST marathon as she goes for her FOURTH Olympic team!

*First, I cannot even imagine running 200 miles, let alone IN A TUNNEL IN THE DARK.

*I’m a little concerned that Andrew and I have not tried the new Costco cookie.  It seems slightly overpriced ($2.50) compared to their other food court items but cheaper than the other cookie establishments.  I haven’t heard the best reviews yet, but I feel like it’s hard to mess up a chocolate chip cookie.

*For some reason, I assumed that the world was split pretty evenly with driving on the right or left side of the road, but when I googled it after one of my kids asked me… I felt weirdly shocked to see the answer.

*I’m rereading this.  I read it many years ago, right after having Skye, and I’m pretty sure I remember 3% of it because I was sleep-deprived, so I decided it was time to dive into it again.

*I finished listening to The Maid (oh, it was so so good) and just started listening to this book.   I swear this is why we all love running; we were made to be uncomfortable.  I forgot who told me about this book, but thank you because I’m enjoying it so far!

I would love to hear your thoughts on this from Jenny, “I have been stalking all the cool Boston Marathon 2024 gear by Adidas. I finally bought myself a cute sweatsuit, and I’m very excited to wear it. Do you think I will jinx myself if I wear it before the race? I was thinking it would be a nice reward and motivating to be able to come home after a long workout and put on my Boston sweats . But I’m also superstitious . Do I need to save the Boston gear until I actually complete the race? I know this might be a controversial topic :)”

What is the most challenging/strange/extreme running race you have heard of? Did you ever go to any summer camps or sports cramps growing up?

-I went to Tennis camp at BYU, which was my favorite summer week.

Who has tried the Costco cookie, and what were your thoughts?  Have a favorite cookie store?

Any guesses on who will make the team for the women at the marathon trials?

Do you have any experience with using the AlterG treadmill? Have you heard anything about the Lever?

Have a beautiful day!

Hey Lisa! I don’t have any experience with them but I would love to try it out along with the Lever! So cool! Have you?

I believe Holly at FueledByLOLZ has used both.

Glad you’re liking The Comfort Crisis! He talks about running in some of the later chapters so even more up your alley :) it definitely inspired me to push my boundaries more and embrace discomfort and difficulty more day to day.

I could NEVER with that underground race! Running is hard enough without doing it underground in the dark. Maybe that’s my too-comfortable attitude talking though lol

Okay … The Costco cookie is a very important subject.
We tried it over the weekend and they serve it WARM. Like underbaked and melty and messy which automatically makes it really good. That said, we didn’t finish it and took it home and ate it later when it was cooled down and it was … Fine. Still good and I would eat it if placed in front of me but not mind blowing and I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it. I would say other places like Crumbl/Great Harvest have better tasting chocolate chip cookies. Still go try it though and share your review!! Hope you’re having the best week, Janae!!

I’m SUPERsticious and never wear the gear before crossing the finish line. I didn’t even like buying the Boston jacket at the expo before the race but I did because I wanted to put it on as soon as I showered after lol.

Nope! I could not do the tunnel run! That sounds crazy.
So excited for the trials!
As far as wearing Boston stuff before Boston… That’s a tough one. I think if it doesn’t say “Finisher” it’s ok?? I don’t know. I’m also a little superstitious.
I went to summer camp with my church every summer (3rd grade through 7th grade )It was awesome! Some of the best memories from those years.
Almost done with peak week, wahoo! How are you feeling?
Have a great day Janae

Save the Boston gear. In fact I recommend not even buying in advance. Not only did I buy 2020 in advance but it’s now been sitting at a border pick up place for almost 4 years.

I love any book that takes place in Paris or France in general! Paris Marathon should be your next international race. 😉
BYU camp sounds so fun! I want a one week summer camp with Diljeet.
Prediction: Sisson, Keira, Kellyn. Conner, Clayton, CJ. But CJ doesn’t go to Olympics due to the weird unlocking of slots rule.
I am a little stitious so I would personally wait.

The Superior Burro Race in Arizona is a race where you have to run with a burro. I literally borrowed someone’s burro so that I could do it (and he hates to run so I walked the 5K). So much fun!

I know it is a long shot but I’m rooting for des. I think Sisson is expected to win so I’d be disappointed if she doesn’t. Can’t wait to watch!! However we have a double header soccer at 10 and 11 am so I have to record and watch later lol

Getting kids into some of these camps is maybe harder than getting Taylor Swift tickets! I just did the same for two camps here in Colorado and was still waitlisted for one 1 minute of logging on, the other camp had their website crash multiple times- yikes! Comfort Crisis was SO good- I often take the stairs and try to get my kids to telling them “we can be the 2%!” but they think the escalator is much more fun. And yay for Jenny Simpson, she went to my alma mater so I am rooting for her full force!

Reply

Hahaha that is the perfect comparison! The website crashed? I would have had an ulcer! I’ll be the 2% with you! Oh that is great, I can’t wait to see what she does with her first marathon. Have a great day, Laura!

I’m super excited for the marathon trials! I’m thinking Emily, Keira and then…I’m torn Sara Hall, Des, or Molly come-back, but also really like Dakotah Lindwurm!

I loved summer camp! My favorite ever was Shark Camp! We learned very thing about them, very marine biologist type camp, and at the end of the week we swam with sharks! Coolest thing my parents ever found and signed me up for.

Reply

I just want them to open up ten spots so I get to have my favorites all there! My kids would be so unbelievably happy to go to shark camp. Your parents win! Thanks Rachel!

That is my favorite Kristen Hannah book!! And one of my top 5 books of all time!!!

I am currently looking for a book to read while sleep deprived, so thank you for the recs haha! I just had my 2nd baby 6 weeks ago and there’s only so much TV I can handle :)

Reply

Congratulations on baby #2!! I understand that too… my brain becomes mush after too much TV! Please let me know what you think of the book, it will be our own little book club❤️ I hope you can sneak in a nap today!

Rooting for Des in any race!! Did you see her post that in her marathon Olympic Trials, she’s finished 13th, 2nd, 2nd and 4th?! Can you imagine if she finished top 3?! EPIC!

Reply

I would actually cry tears of joy! I love her so much!

Reply

Oh now I want to reread!

Also can’t help root for Des! I can’t wait to watch.

On Boston gear – I don’t wear my jacket until race weekend. Initially, I thought I’d wait until after the finish… but it is so cool to see everyone in town (and probably on your plane there) with their jackets on that I do pull my jacket out race weekend. But I don’t wear it until I know I’m headed to compete. (I too still have a 2020 jacket)
I would wear other gear.

I went to a Christian sports camp in Missouri called Kanakuk. I loved it, I went for 3 summers, you got to pick your “major” sport and you did that for the majority of the day, and then you got to pick 2 minor sports to also do. There were kids from all over the US there so it was really neat to spend time with kids from other states.

Wasn’t The Maid the sweetest book? Which is weird to say for a murder mystery, but I just loved the final core group of characters so, so much. I felt like the plot was almost secondary to the characters, if that makes sense. Don’t get me wrong, the plot was engrossing, but I just loved Molly and her group of friends and how they were portrayed.

the costco cookie is 10/10 and worth the 2.50. I saw a family at the food court wth a gallon of milk they just bought and everyone had a cookie. winning.
