It’s official + St. Georging + Why do I do this?

(Shoes, my favorite Amazon top, shorts, bra)

Our faces were both absolutely frozen by the end of this long run but we were so happy to check mark this huge marathon workout.  Kaydi is running Mesa, which is a week earlier than my marathon, so I texted her immediately when I found out we were going to St. George.  She had 7 x 2 miles at 6:20-6:30 and my coach told me to do 5-6 x 2 miles with her.

It was only 1 degree warmer in St. George than at home in the morning, it was freezing but to have clear roads and trails to run on for 20 miles felt like a miracle.

We even came across a hot-air balloon festival while we were out.

My body felt more alive with each one which I was grateful for because the first one felt horrible.  We took a gel every 4 miles and we did a big loop around the city.  My current feelings–> Loops > out and backs > long runs on the treadmill..

2 more weeks before the taper begins!

Why do I do this? I’ve done this off and on for years…  sadly, I was more concerned about the blood on my shoe than my ankle🤣

It’s official!  I’m signed up for the marathon:

Having so much family in St. George is the best.

We went straight for breakfast at Black Bear Diner.

And then to a festival. Spending the afternoon outside felt like the biggest treat.

We went for a walk on Sunday (I have NEVER in my life seen this much snow here).

Skye used her bun to hold the leash.

We finished up the weekend with all of the football watching:

Skye’s bun holding the leash! hahahahah
Yay for clear roads. I had a dodgy bridges and spots on the roads for my speed workout. It really makes me realize how valuable my core is for running.
This weekend I wore the Packers beanie that my husband gave me. I regretted it when people were commenting on the upcoming game repeatedly at the grocery store. I wanted to respond to all the fans with “I love Tadej Pogacar and cycling, not football!” So I avoided eye contact with any person wearing football attire. Now I’m wishing I would have responded with something like “If anyone can get a win today, it’s Aaron Rodgers!” Ok, I’m wearing the hat next game day!

Molly ~ I’m with you, give me cycling over football any day!

She always finds a better way to do things! Bridges are the absolute worst in the winter. Hahaha is there a Tadej beanie you can purchase? Happy Monday, Molly!

Awesome job on that long run! And how fun to come across a hot air balloon festival. I think they’re so pretty.
I feel like the entire country is in a deep freeze right now, except for here and Florida… Ha ha. We were out by the fire pit again last night. It is so cozy.
I’m heading out for a easy run in a bit. I went to our local running store and did the whole treadmill test, gait check, etc… I no longer need support shoes! My over-pronation has “corrected” over the years. So I got new shoes, and realized that by being able to shop for neutral shoes opens up so many more choices!
So glad you guys had a great weekend with family. Those are the best!
Have a great Monday!

Thank you, Wendy! DEEP FREEZE. I am so afraid to go home later today haha. Okay, that is so cool. Way to go and what did you end up choosing? Thanks friend, you too!

Sounds like a great weekend! I saw the picture of your family at the restaurant and immediately thought, “That looks like Black Bear Diner.” Then read, “breakfast at Black Bear Diner.” Ha! Perfect choice!

I feel like I dodged a bullet last week – thought I was coming down with strep throat (I’ve had it SO many times!) but thankfully it was “just” a sore throat and is already cleared up. Ran a little over 5 miles today – it was 43 out so of course I had on long tights, a jacket, gloves and ear cover.

So excited for your next marathon! We just started planning our summer trip – Les and his brother are going to follow the Tour de France for a week, then my sis-in-law and I are going to fly in and join them for a week.

Hahah you are good! Black Bear Diner definitely has it’s own aesthetic. I am so grateful you didn’t have strep and you were able to get out for a run today! 43 is cold when you aren’t used to it. Brooke was out in shorts and a short sleeve in 30 this morning haha… she’s my daughter. NO WAY. Kathy, that sounds dreamy! I might have to fly over with you:)

Janae,

Read up on “heel whip” for your ankle issue (google and YouTube). You can have Andrew film you running from behind on the treadmill to see what your heels are doing (or buy a mini tripod from Amazon and film yourself). Try to find an app with super slow motion or frame by frame playback. Once you get an idea from your video and research what is going on – you can either try and deal with it yourself or seek expert advice.

We have 6 inches of fresh snow here in Memphis so I got 4 miles in this morning! But the rest of the day is spent inside under the blanket reading Fourth Wing and watching Netflix!

OK, I do that same thing with my heel hitting my ankle, and sometimes it’s even farther up my calf. I’m not even sure how it’s possible to kick myself like that and not even notice until after the run. Maybe I’ll put a positive spin on it and say I must be in the zone, hah! So glad you got clear roads, even if it wasn’t warm, and great workout!

OhMaGosh… I kick myself when I run .. I thought I was alone (until I saw my teenager is now destroying the inside ankles of his shoes too); I have never bled though, just ruin shoes.
