(Tank, shorts, socks, shoes)

Nine miles @ 8:43 for me and soccer for Brookie.

I am very jealous of my friend with the dark hair in the picture below…

She is off to Alaska soon and is going to run Mt. Marathon there.  It is a 5k where you run .6 on the road to the mountain, then climb 3022 ft in .9 miles up the mountain and then turn around and run back.   They don’t believe in switchbacks, so you are running straight up and down the mountain.  I’m going to beg her to write a race recap for us:)

If you have ten minutes, you should watch this clip about it.  It is intense, and I will stop complaining about tiny inclines after watching this:

Skye is very supportive of continuing to help me recover from my half.  The hot tub feels so good.

I do not miss out on the Bath and Body Works sale.  The amount of lotion I use daily is out of control… dry skin or dry lips kills me.

I used to work at this exact store, so it’s always fun to go back and visit.

I’m not sure I can go to the mall without getting chic-fil-a.  The two things go together for me.

When she finds a game she loves… we play it 100 times in a row.

Skye is back to gymnastics!

We’ve been eating so much later (7:30!!) during this time of year vs the winter.  All of the light outside fools us.

BBQ chicken pizza for dinner.  I didn’t have rotisserie chicken so I just used the Just Bare chicken from Costco.  Cilantro added after the picture:)

Round 2 involved bruschetta!

Any extreme races you’ve heard about that you want to do?  Any extreme races that you have done?

Any sales that you do not miss?!

Are you a lotion person?  Anyone else that has conditioned their skin to NEED it?

Tell me about what your run is today!

That race looks so intense!! I can’t imagine running down that mountain- the uphill looks tough, but the downhill looks scary. Good luck to your friend!! Would love to hear a race recap.

Run today is a track workout! Our coaches don’t tell us the workout til we get there, which is probably smart haha.

Right?! Which is harder, the uphill or the downhill? She just told me that she will do a race recap wahoo. Good luck at the track workout! Ignorance is bliss hahah.

I read this article years ago but it’s fascinating: https://www.outsideonline.com/health/running/disappearance-mount-marathon/
A local guy went missing during that race and it’s remained a mystery (I think?). I want to do that race someday though! It sounds incredible. Good luck to your friend, I hope she does a recap!!

Thank you for sharing the article–interesting and very sad.

Oh my gosh. That is so scary! And the other two injuries that day. I am worried now for Jenn! She just told me that she will write a race recap, she is incredible!

I would love a race recap of the Alaska 5k!!

She just told me that she will. I’m so excited. Hope your day is a great one, Jen!

I am totally jealous of your friend now too. Never heard of that race, but it looks SO fun! And insanely difficult and a little bit scary. Thanks for sharing that video about it!
I use lotion often, but for some reason I am constantly trying to use up all of the random lotions we already have at home. I don’t know where they call come from – probably gifts, some free, and who knows where else?!
We love the Spot-It games too. :)

She just told me she is going to write the race recap, I’m so excited to read it and post it. Hahaha I’ve gone through that phase too with soaps… just trying to use up all 100 of the ones we had that were half-full. Hope your day is a great one, Katie!

I’m a fan of Allie Ostrander and learned about the Mt Marathon race from her (she’s won it twice, I think). It seems like a crazy one! The craziest race I ever did was a 100 miler along the Erie canal path in NY. Out and back course, 12.5 miles out, 12.5 miles back, rinse/repeat. It took me just over 24 hours and when I finished, I wasn’t sure I was even human anymore :) In hindsight, it was fun. I also did a Tough Mudder in Vermont once. That was probably the hardest physical undertaking I’ve ever done. I have never been so cold in my life. Never again!
I love lotion and slather myself and my kids daily. I totally forgot about the Bath and Body Works sale, so thank you for the reminder!

I love Allie Ostrander too and had no idea that she has won it twice. She does it all! WHAT?! I didn’t know you did that 100 miler and that it was out and back like that. You are so strong physically and mentally! And that tough mudder… ouch. Go enjoy the sale! Thanks Stacey, have a beautiful day!

Not technically an extreme race, but it was extreme for me. I ran the Falcon Marathon on the Air Force Academy campus. Mixed road/trail course, with over 3000′ of climbing and most of that happens between miles 20.5-23 when you have to climb the “3 Bears” 3 progressively taller peaks. It was laughable. There are parts that we were almost climbing on hand and feet to get up some of the steep parts. The really extreme part is that there is a 50 mile version (2 loops) and a rucking option, where runners (mostly cadets) will do it with a 35+ pack. It was crazy, but a cool experience.

That is absolutely extreme to me! I cannot even imagine. You are so strong and how you did those three climbs so late into the marathon, wow. 2 loops ad the option to wear a pack… insane! Thanks for sharing, not sure I will put it on my list ha but I would LOVE to go spectate that race. Have a great day, Mindy!

It’s definitely not running up the hills, it was hiking with lots of breaks. Lots of squats to get the lower body ready for all the climbing. The other challenge to the race is that it is at 7200-8000+ elevation, so the air is THIN!
It was a fun adventure and I was pleased with my results after training through impossible weather this winter.

It’s not exactly “extreme” but Raleigh is known for its Krispy Kreme challenge! You start at NCSU’s bell tower and run 2.5 miles downtown to a historic Krispy Kreme location. Then you eat a dozen donuts as fast as you can and run the 2.5 miles back. You “win” the challenge if you complete it within 50 minutes :) my husband and I did it a few years ago. I only ate a couple donuts (not everyone decided to go for the full dozen!) but my husband successfully completed the challenge with the full dozen within 50 minutes. He brags that it will forever be the only race he’ll beat me haha

Reply

That sounds very extreme to me! HOW?! Congrats to your husband… I’d be with you and just try a few donuts. That is hardcore and now I’m tempted to try it with Andrew. Hahaha I’m thinking that would be the only race Andrew beats me in too! Thanks for sharing, Christine!

This is not extreme in the way your friend’s marathon will be…but maybe extreme just in the uniqueness of it. :) We are going to Colorado in a few weeks and are going to tackle this. It’s more of a thing you can do as a family. :)

Ummm KELLY! That is so so cool. I just sent it to Andrew to tell him we are going to do it too. You have to let me know what you guys think. 2,000 ft in 1 mile!

Hi Janae! No switchbacks?? That looks super intense. You gotta get your friend to give us a race recap!
I am addicted to Chapsticks… I use lotion too but I only use unscented stuff now.
I agree we are eating dinner a lot later now too! Loving the sun though.
Have an awesome day!

Right?! I love switchbacks haha… I’m not sure I would survive. She just confirmed she will write a race recap:) It’s kind of fun to live life according to the sun more than a clock. Have a great day, Amy!

I keep watching and rewatching Eco Challenge Fiji….its sad that Amazon decided not to continue that event, but so unreal…I’ve only taken part in ultras as a relay member and as a supporter…but those ultra folks are insane but inspirational…Jornet and Forsberg are amazing….my only goal right now is staying aay from the new, any news, news channel for 75 days….or forever

I’ve never heard of that show… I would love to watch it! Thanks Warren and have a great day!

We saw people training for that race when we were in Seward, AK the week before a few years ago. I was also very jealous! What do we have to do to convince her to write a race report??

Reply

NO WAY! Oh that must have been awesome to see them training. She just confirmed with me that she will write a race recap:). Get excited. Have a beautiful day!

I just moved to Alaska and said the exact same thing about them not believing in switchbacks! Its completely true for the hikes near my house haha!

Reply

NO WAY! Oh my gosh, you’ll have to keep us updated on how you like living in Alaska and soon you’ll think we all need to get rid of switchbacks hahaa!

That definitely sounds crazy and intense – I can’t wait for the recap!
My two “intense for me are” – Pikes Peak marathon a few years ago – coming from sea level to run up and down a 14er was definitely a very cool experience. The other is our local “Summer Series” – 5k evening trail series, through veryyyy switchbacky woods every other week during the summer (so 6 in total). I’m in College Station, Texas – just north of Houston. We expect it to be 90-95 at race time tomorrow and very humid. Race effort does not translate to race pace on this one!

My partner Russ is doing the Canadaman Ironman distance race on July 2nd in Lac-Majentic Quebec. It’s an extreme ironman distance race that is self-supported. Only 150 people total (but less than 100 signed up for this year) are allowed. The 4k swim starts at 4:30 a.m., very hilly 180km bike course, followed by a road/gravel marathon that ends with an 8k climb up Lac-Majentic mountain and requires you to have a support person with you. I’m his support crew for the day and will do the 8k climb with him. I cannot wait to cross the finish with him when he completes such an amazing feat!

Mt Marathon is insane!! (I live in Alaska, although no where near Seward.) My husband has banned me from ever even trying to get in, it’s just that crazy.
