Friday Favorites, Why People Laugh at Runners & Is It Weird?

The self-timer on my phone caught me attempting to jump over the puddle but sadly I was not successful at making it over.

Bridget and I have followed each other for years on social media.  She is absolutely amazing.  She will be running the St. George Marathon too and she is so crazy speedy… we both did speed work on Wednesday (her workout included 400s in the 4:35/mile pace (68 seconds) ahhhhh) so we were both happy to take it nice and easy for 6 miles of talking nonstop.  I am so grateful we finally were able to meet and we have many more miles up ahead together!

We met at a trail that I used to run on daily.  It really cooled down and we were both shivering at the beginning of our run!  I hope this happens at our marathon.

Once I got the kids to school, Skyester and I were really busy playing on the rug and reading Dr. Seuss while Beretta watched over us.

I picked up Knox (Kindergarten is half day).  Then we went to Kneader’s to pick up bread for my grandma and grabbed some lunch there for us too.  Their turkey, bacon, avocado salad with focaccia bread is something else.  I also asked for two different types of dressing because mixing flavors is delicious in my opinion.

MER!!!!! Skye is loving getting to know her better.

Later on we had steak for dinner!  I’m trying to get in plenty of iron each week with all of this training that I am doing.

Followed by this because it was just what I needed to do.

For our family night (each Thursday we dedicate the evening to family time without any distractions) the kids wrote letters to their cousin!

I’ve got a few Friday Favorites to share today (affiliate links included)!

*I have really enjoyed reading Shoe Dog and thought this part was really true….

*After my sock mistakes during my 19 miler last week I immediately ordered more of my favorite pairs of socks so that I always run with them.  I am obsessed with Balega socks and these ones that I got are so thin and comfy and the other ones come up a bit higher too so I don’t run into my blister problem ever again.

IMG 0451

*As you know, I am the v-neck t-shirt expert.  At some point I need to stop growing my collection but I couldn’t resist the cute fall color v-necks from Madewell right now.  They are my favorite.  I also got this top and this top from them for fall and I love them too!

*Andrew sent this to me.  Now we know why people might laugh at us while we are running.

IMG 0516

*Skye grabbed these TJ’s sweet potato frites as I was taking the picture of them because they are so good.

*Thank you for the leash recommendations!  I got this one and it is awesome!

*Is it weird to already have my marathon outfit ready (the race is in October so I’ll answer this question… yes)?  As far as the shoes go, the brighter the better in my opinion.

Jill!!! “I injured myself last fall while training for my first BQ attempt, and haven’t been running as consistently this year as I have in the past (I started lifting weights and have been enjoying it, so I’m looking at it as a small break from running to just keep doing what I like).  But, this past weekend I ran a 10k in Reykjavik, Iceland (on a vacation) and I was only 2:30 off of my 10k PR (I ran a 47:40)!  I was so excited for having not trained at all!  I think it might have been just what I needed to spark that excitement about my running goals!”

They are my new favorites!! I hope you have a great weekend Kaytlin!

I say that if it’s normal to you to have your outfit already picked out for your race, then it’s normal. :)

I took the high school girls group I lead at church to dinner at Panera and had the BBQ chicken flatbread (SO good) with an apple and Wheat Thins. And I take an iron supplement just to make sure I get enough.

Hope that y’all have a wonderful weekend, Janae!

Oh that is awesome that you did that Natalie! I wish we had a Panera here! Thanks girl… YOU TOO and go to that beach for me:)

So much to say! I love that you have a new running buddy (in addition to all of your other running friends)! I think that this is a big piece of my running puzzle that is missing and that could help me to improve more and to push myself more. I ALWAYS run alone. It’s so hard to find someone you mesh with who runs the same time of day that you do.

LOVE the pics of your kiddos with Mer. Those will be precious precious memories some day. Take tons of pictures of those moments!!!!!!!!

Love Balegas, too, and LOVE that you have your marathon outfit picked out! One less thing to worry about and think about!!!!!!

I’ve wanted to read Shoe Dog! I’m currently reading “The Brave Athlete: Calme the F*ck Down and Rise to the Occasion.” It was recommended by a friend—ALWAYS working on that mental toughness game!!!!! I like it so far!

Have the BEST weekend with your cute family, Janae! I’ll be running and recovering from the first week of school. ha ha I NEED to get some yoga in there, too!!!!!!!

Reply

Hey girl!! Come move up here and join us for the runs:) Wouldn’t that be fun? Okay… would you recommend that book for me? I need another mental game book! Thanks, you too! Way to go on the first week… it’s hard adjusting back into that schedule!

Hey Janae! I’ll give you a full review of The Brave Athlete when I finish it! I like it so far!!!!!

My family has the Nebo 5k this weekend ( Jason’s running the half) My oldest son made the cross country team and I just bought him a pair of the Launch 4’s for it ( Mens size and he’s 11) He ran in a pair of Brooks when we were in Seattle and loved them ( That’s another story..) I may read Shoe dog this weekend. We went back to school this week I have a 3rd grader and a 6th grader as well as I teach too. We need to add more Iron in our diet I’m feeling the lack of it. Have a great weekend!

Reply

I’ve always wanted to do that race! Let me know how it goes! That is so exciting about your oldest son (both the team and his Brooks;)! They are the best! Busy week for you! Thanks Molly, you too!

I love that you have family night! I might have to borrow that idea.
I have an 8 mile long run Saturday. I’m training for a half marathon and I cannot wait to race.

Reply

Do it… it seriously is so great. Our kids get so excited about it too. WAHOO… you are going to rock your 8 miler. Which half is it? GOOD LUCK with all of your training Jessica!

I live on the other side of the country. It’s the Crawlin Crab Half in Hampton,VA. I can’t wait to hear how you do at St. George! I know it’s going to be awesome!

Oh man, I meant to send you my race for a Running accomplishment and I forgot. I’ll try to send it for next week. Hopefully my brain starts to remember things like that better now that school is more of a routine.

Birthday weekend for me! (Mine is Monday) so hopefully we do lots of fun things to celebrate my last days in my 20’s ;)

Reply

AHHHHH HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!! I hope that it is absolutely perfect. Yes, send it next week! Oh don’t worry, I’ve already forgotten 3 things for Brooke’s school stuff… so I’m really rocking it:) Have a great day and party hard this weekend!

I’m doing my first warrior dash tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be great (after all the rain this summer) so hoping it goes well. My goal is just to finish healthy and have fun since it’s my first time.

Reply

YOU ARE… that is awesome Alicia! I want to hear all about how it goes! Have a blast:)

How fun to get to run with a super speedy friend! I need to start doing that once a week or so. This morning I was running “with” (really behind, then next to, then I passed her!) a college runner and felt so happy that I could keep up and pass her! But then she kept going up the trail and I turned to head a different way, getting stopped a t a red light, and was very happy about that break! It was fun to have someone faster than me, push my pace for a bit ;)
This weekend is going to be filled with lots of good things! Our son’s football game tonight, and our younger son is in the band, so that’s really awesome! Pool time, and my long run on Sunday of 9 miles. Feeling stronger and better about the half coming up! I haven’t had a race since May, so I’m really looking forward to a race day again :)
Happy Friday!

Reply

GO WENDY GO… you are so speedy! Hahah I love it when the red light comes at just the right time;) That sounds like the perfect weekend to me! Have an amazing time and you are going to rock your half marathon and I can’t wait to hear about it all. Enjoy the game tonight!

Randomish question:
How do you schedule your mornings now that the kids are in school and the mornings are darker?
Do you run in the dark? Does Andrew take the kids to school? Curious how other mom’s do “the juggle!”

Reply

Hey Bridgette!! Good question… I’m still learning how to do it. I take the kids to school each day still but today I ran with the jogging stroller once they were in school. I’ve had to run in the dark a bit more (but I’m taking Beretta now and I have the Run Angel which helps me to feel much more secure). I’m also starting to meet more people for runs so that we can start as early as we need to to get back in time to get the kids up and going and before Andrew leaves for work. It’s taking a lot of juggling but thank goodness the long run is on the weekend ha!

My sister and her family are in town so we all had sushi last night. I was in heaven. I eat everything so at the moment I don’t take any supplements.

Looking forward to relaxing this weekend – I am reading Deena Kastor’s Memoir: Let your mind run and also spending more time with my little nieces.

My favourite things this past week has been eating all sorts of sweet treats – I know it’s terrible, but I had ice cream yesterday, waffles for breakfast today and who knows what else because it is still early :).

Have a wonderful weekend!

Reply

Oh that sounds like the perfect night… and now I am craving sushi:) Oh that book is AMAZING. I want to read it again:) You keep eating those treats… I don’t think it is terrible at all! Thanks, you too!

I have my first 20 mile run of this training cycle happening tomorrow! I’m a bit nervous but I’ll be running parts of it with friends so it should go well! And my marathon is in October and I already have an idea for my outfit lol.

My dinner last night was food truck Baos and Fries because I have social runs on Thursday nights and I stayed afterwards and hung out at the brewery with everyone. They were pretty good! I don’t take iron supplements but I make sure to eat plenty of iron rich food during training.

Reply

I want to go to that food truck:) I love that you have social runs and eat out afterwards! GOOD LUCK TOMORROW VIRJINIA!! You’ve got this. Please let me know how it goes! Oh good… I’m not alone on the outfit haha! Have a wonderful day and sleep well tonight:)

Is the pace for the 400 a typo??? That’s pretty slow for being “crazy speedy”

Reply

I didn’t explain it right… I meant in the 4 minute mile pace. So her 400s were done at like a 4:30 mile pace… so like 67 seconds for the 400. Sorry, I definitely messed that up! I’ll fix it now. Have a fabulous day Jennifer!

Reply

I try to eat lots of iron rich foods (beans, seeds, leafy greens) but I don’t eat much meat, so will often take an iron supplement if I start to feel sluggish. And those Launches look super speedy! :)

Reply

I think you need a pair of these Launches:) I need to increase my beans, seeds and leafy greens:) Have a wonderful day Michelle!

Reply

I have been nomming on the dark chocolate covered marshmallows from trader joes all week! This weekend we are going camping in a nearby national park :)

have a good weekend!

Reply

I NEED TO GET THOSE ASAP!! That sounds so good. Have the best time camping this weekend, that sounds like so much fun!

Reply

I have the same pair of Launches! I love them particularly because they continue to look bright and clean despite many dirty miles. They are also going to be my marathon shoes – running Chicago this year so our marathons are only a day apart!

Reply

Oh this is so good to hear!! We are going to be shoe/race twins… You’ll have to let me know how it goes afterwards… I am cheering you on!

Reply

I had grilled ahi tuna with roasted carrots and asparagus.. soo yummy!! I am looking forward to the Taylor Swift concert tomorrow night with my hubby (total fan girl over here!). Hope you guys have a great weekend!!!!

I am in exactly the right mood for fall clothes today. Love the tee you are wearing so much that I just ordered it and one other color too. Thanks for inspiring a fun Friday lunchtime purchase!
