I was dreading getting on the treadmill this morning. Like most days, it is my only option so I decided on the way to the gym to come up with all of the reasons that I love the treadmill in order to change my attitude about the machine. It worked.
-For making it possible to do mile repeats this morning when it is much too slippery to do them outside. All of the sudden Utah decided to have winter. PS when I first opened the door this morning and Brooke saw all of the snow she said, “Mama, IT’S CHRISTMAS!!!!!!” (As you can tell below, Brooke wasn’t very happy that it actually wasn’t Christmas).
-For making it so that I have a water bottle within arms reach of me throughout my entire run. Having a restroom nearby at all times is pretty awesome too.
-For giving me the chance to just zone out and just run without worrying about cars, curbs, dogs, my route etc.
-For giving me that ‘sweat in my eyeballs’ experience that is nearly impossible to get when running outside during the winter. You have to admit, it feels really good to sweat it all out. Add that with all of the endorphins= heaven.
-For making it possible for a single mom to train for a marathon without having to ask my mom to babysit for much more than my weekly long run.
-For keeping me on pace. No slowing down or speeding up when you shouldn’t be on accident! You go the speed that you set the treadmill to do.
-For building up my mental toughness. Running miles and miles on the treadmill and staying focused when it can get quite boring will make Boston easy right;)
-For allowing me to catch up on my reading on my easy days (I know it is crazy that I can read and run but I set the font on my iPad pretty big and I don’t bounce too much).
-For making me feel cool this morning when the bottoms of my shoes were hot from the treadmill belt working so hard.
I guess treadmills are pretty great.
On the schedule for today were some MILE REPEATS.
My 5 mile repeats were —> 6:18, 6:15, 6:10, 6:10, 6:10. All at a .5% incline. 7:11 overall pace. Angry music plus a ridiculous amount of motivation lately to rock my training made this workout possible.
I got the one treadmill that goes longer than 60 minutes which pretty much made my day.
Brooke loves it when her cousins have an early out day from school because it means it is time to party.
I love it too.
Lunch was the normal (I swear I can never get sick of sweet potatoes) and this is what I am snacking on while chatting with you:
I wanted to share with you Josse’s homemade fuel that she uses on her long runs. I have tasted it before and it is quite delicious!
2-3 TB of coconut oil
10 Medjool dates (pit removed)
The juice and zest of 1 lemon, 1-2 limes and 1 orange (or 2-3 clementines)
1/4 tsp fine sea salt
1-2 TB of nut butter (if you want some protein
Blend in a good blender or food processor. You can add different flavors too like mocha, vanilla, coconut etc.
She uses a little pill bag to put them in and stores them in the freezer (they last for a very long time)!.
What have you been snacking on today or lately? Are you much of a snacker?
Are you a creature of habit or do you branch out much with your meals?
Your reasons why the treadmill isn’t so bad? Or is it?
