What the week after a marathon looks like, 7 things and a GIVEAWAY!!!!

First, and most importantly…  Brooks is giving away the Seattle Collapsible Hat and a pair of the Drift Gloves to one lucky reader.  To enter for these awesome stocking stuffers just leave a comment on this post with whatever you would like to say!!!

IMG 5021

Second, and probably not important at all… 7 random things to tell you.

-Please tell me that everyone else wants to buy every.single.holiday.themed.food.item at the grocery store right now.  Every time that I walk by any of the holiday themed food (even if it doesn’t look super good) I feel this strong urge to buy it because after Christmas it will be gone forever (or for 10 months…)

IMG 2787

-I am pretty sure she is over the whole selfie thing.

IMG 2817

-Who knew a pair of Christmas leggings could make a human so ridiculously happy?!

IMG 2813

-My favorite part of gymnastics is just watching her running form.  I can learn a thing or two from her.

IMG 2829

-Cross your fingers for me that I win these.  I enter a ridiculous amount of drawings (pretty much anytime I see one) and I have yet to ever win.  I feel good about this one though.

IMG 2858 1

-As I was writing this post Brooke came out dressed like this.  Not bad.

IMG 2859

-I found this clip hilarious.  What was our world like before social media?

So what does the week after a marathon look like for me?

Zero running.  That is what it looks like for me.  I know some people jump right back into running after a day or two off but I’ve never been that person.   It just takes my body some time to recover and most importantly my mind to recover.  By the end of marathon training (especially an extended training cycle like this last one) I am more than ready for a break.  I’m sure I will crave the run again soonish but until my body and brain want it again, I’m not going to be running.  I have been doing some yoga and strength training today (we will talk more about that tomorrow) and a whole lot of resting.  I’m not really sore but I think there is a lot of damage done during those 26.2 miles (even if you don’t feel it afterwards) that need time to repair before going again.  After your next race remember to think long term.  I obviously will lose fitness by taking time off from running (and running fast for awhile) but in the long run it will be so much better for my next training cycle to take some time off from running!  And it will be good for my stomach:)

Just leave a comment if you want to be entered for the GIVEAWAY!!!!!  You can even just say hello to enter:)

Those gloves look so warm! It will be great for winter running here is Des Moines! We have had such a warm December but I know the colder weather is coming :)

Loving Brooke’s Christmas leggings!! She is so adorable!!

These stocking stuffers may just be the perfect way to get my running rear in gear! I really struggle with consistency and it’s so frustrating! I’ll train for a half marathon, get kind of burned out on running , and take some time off (read- a couple months) after the race. Then I have to start back at almost zero building my base up again. My friends and I are running a half in Kansas City in April so cold outdoor running will definitely be happening for this girl! :)

that ice cream looks so darn good – ice cream and coffee at 8am ? why not ?

Have a great Thursday!!!

Reply

So proud of you for being able to take a week off from running! Its such a smart thing to do for your body but one I often forget about after running a hard race. I sometimes feel like I never let my body fully recover after a race because I just love running way too much. Definitely think I have an addiction ;))

Reply

Finally getting cold here in TN! Could use the gloves and hat to stay warm!! :)

Reply

Mmmm my favorite holiday things are egg nog & peppermint ice cream, sometimes together in a milkshake. YUM.

Those gloves and hat are super cute. As much as I hate cold, cute gear like this is great motivation to get out the door.

Reply

I would love the Brooks stocking stuffers for my sister, she LOVES hats and I am trying to get her to love running so she can run with me – and feel better about herself. I am hoping she will do a 1/2 with me in March, she is going to start training for it. Running with family is the best!

Reply

I need those gloves!!! LOVE.

Hi Janae, I really felt for you with the obstacles you faced this training cycle. You are such an inspiration. Bravo! So proud of you. Sub 3 WILL happen. Sending you all the healthy good vibes. Those gloves look awesome, and I wish they made those Christmas tights in Adult sizes!!! They are adorable.

Reply

First off, I will be headed out at lunch to buy those leggings for my 2 year old. I have found it hard to get back in the groove of running after the Chicago Marathon (my first). It almost seems like post-marathon blues or something? I am hoping registering for some half’s in the spring will motivate me. I also never win give-aways…hint, hint :)

Reply

I have been looking for a good running hat!

Reply

I need to upgrade to an Instagram Husband. My husband will NEVER take selfie pictures with me. We have had so many races that have gone un-documented because of him being embarrassed to snap a picture of us. And don’t get me started on all the meals that the world hasn’t seen because he thinks it’s dumb to post food pics!

I’m glad you’re taking time some off from running. I haven’t run since Thanksgiving, I got knocked on my butt with the flu, bronchitis and a sinus infection. But like you said I’m starting to crave it again. Hoping to 2016 being an amazing year!

Reply

I’m with you on the marathon recovery. Sometimes your body might feel okay after a few days but if you jump back in too soon, you’re doomed! Rest up and enjoy the down time!!
