She’s back home now and some Friday things.

My mom is back home now and we spent most of the day with her!  She was at my brother’s hospital for the last little bit and now she will be wearing a heart monitor to see if the heart problem that she was born with (she had surgery on it right after Brooke was born) had anything to do with the eye stroke.

We can’t thank you enough for your prayers and thoughts.  You guys are such a huge support for me and I am incredibly thankful for you all.  I know you can tell that my mom is quite an incredible woman even from the little snippets that I include about her on the blog.

-Last night I came across this ‘choose faith over worry’ sign and it was like I was meant to walk by it.   I’ve got to stop worrying obsessively and have faith in God’s plan and do whatever I can to help my mom right now.

I have some pictures from earlier on this week I thought I would share today.

-My marathon shoes arrived in the mail (PureCadence 4s) and I am excited to get in a few miles on them before the marathon.

IMG 9310

-Brooke and I made some sugar cookies for my brother and his family.  We used a copycat recipe of Swig (a popular cookie place in Utah) cookies and they tasted pretty darn close to the real thing.

IMG 4160

-I doubted this bread before I tried it and then I tried it and wanted eight more loaves afterwards.

IMG 9291

-Still loving gymnastics.

IMG 9332

-Love this quote from Amy Hastings on the brooksrunning instagram.  I’ll be using this one on October 3rd.

IMG 9342

-Loved this one from Runners World too:)

IMG 9339

-My friend is in Hawaii and sent me this picture of her donut with vanilla gelato, chocolate hazelnut sauce and roasted macadamia nuts.  I asked her to bring me one home so let’s see if she does.

IMG 7253

-Her first two-wheeler! Helmet was put on right after picture:)

IMG 9317

-Any day she has gymnastics = she falls asleep in my arms a bit later.  I’m okay with it:)

IMG 9353

-Shared a salted caramel/sprinkles/brownie Coldstone because when I am stressed/worried I tend to eat as many grams of sugar as possible (see above sugar cookies too….)

IMG 9357 1

-Aladdin is the current favorite that we read 8 times before bed.

PS thanks again for all of your sweet comments/emails/facebook messages etc.  It means the world to me.

So glad she’s back home :) The picture of Brooke with pink frosting is too cute! And I still love that she’s still loving gymnastics!

I’m so glad she’s home!

That fall quote is the story of my life. The fall makes me want to run forever and never stop.

The only fun plan this weekend is my first long run of marathon training. I kept a good base of running for my half marathon last weekend, but slow, long runs are another animal. Happy weekend!

My sister is in town this weekend, so I’ll spend some time with her. Always good to see family! I have a 5k tomorrow morning with a friend and hopefully will get to see The Intern this weekend!

Running is going well. I haven’t even had any phantom aches, pains, etc. during this taper. Fingers crossed that means the race will go well too!

Glad your mom is back home and doing better!!

So glad your mom is home. Will continue to pray for her healing and for peace and trust for you.

I want those sugar cookies.

After my run tomorrow I’m playing golf with my parents. I’m excited about it!

Running is going well: I’m in full on taper for my first marathon. Just taking it one day at a time so I don’t get anxious about the race!

So glad your mom is home!
Are you smelling your new shoes in that picture? Because I do that and my husband thinks i’m ridiculous…but I just love the smell of new running shoes :)
This is a recovery week for me – I have 12 miles on Saturday. The rest of the day will be spent relaxing on the couch, watching college football, and working on a few upcoming blog posts!

Really glad to hear your mom is back home!

This weekend I’m running a 5K (for fun) and then getting in a few additional miles after. I still have 18 miles on the calendar for this weekend even though I’m technically in the taper, but the miles are split up between Sat and Sun so it won’t be too bad :) Just hoping the rain stays away!

Weekend plans: 18-20 mile long run.
My runs were really strong this week! I think the cooler temps made a world of difference.

This weekend Oktoberfest is in town! I cannot wait for a cream puff!

I haven’t run since my 10k last weekend. I need to get a new battery for my heart rate monitor and then go a few miles after work tonight or tomorrow morning.

I am glad to hear that your mom is back at home. Happy thoughts will continue to come your way! =)

SO glad your mom is home!! Many prayers for her, you, and your whole family!!

1) Weekend plans – quick local 5K followed by brunch, laundry, and grocery shopping – I live a VERY exciting life ;-)

2) My running is eh – I’m in that phase of training where the excitement has worn off and the challenge isn’t quite there anymore. Wrote a quick post on it today. Starting next week, my training will be more challenging and just what I need to get some motivation back :)

So happy to hear your mom is doing better! Weekend plan – half marathon tomorrow and lots and lots of relaxing :) Maybe even some baking :)

Best wishes to your mom. She seems like such a sweet lady. I hope they figure out what’s going on with her eye soon, it’s never fun to have someone you love be in distress.

Weekend plan – I’m home alone ALL WEEKEND. (wow, that sounds like an invitation to burglars…) I’m excited to go to a movie, sleep in if I can, and do my long run for as long as I want! I have my first ever half-marathon in two weeks, and am loving running further than I ever have before :)

Happy weekend. Big hugs to your mom from Canada. (that’s right. From all of Canada. We’re all sending hugs.)

My running stinks because my foot hurts. :( Missing my morning runs, and spreading the grumpies all around my house. Not good!

Reply

Welcome home!! Glad she’s okay!

This weekend is all about keeping it low key! I’ll be traveling for the next 2 weeks straight so I don’t want to do much if I don’t have to :)

Running has been … Fine. My body still feels so drained from the 22-miler last Saturday. I’ve been running consistently and keeping up my workouts but I really just feel ready to run this marathon and chill out for a few weeks!

Happy Friday!!

I’m so glad she is home! Keeping all the positive energy and prayers coming your way!!

You look like you’re sniffing your shoes. Do they have that new shoe smell. :)

My husband had surgery Wed. and is hopefully coming home today. I had the fastest run Wed. that I’ve had since my injury. I needed to run out the stress. (and I go for sugar too, I’m trying to go easy on it. Trying being the operative word).

Glad your mom is okay! I’ll keep her in my prayers.

That donut from Hawaii looks AMAZING!! As do all your other sugary treats – I’m also a sugar addict and it’s a daily struggle to avoid it…

This post has so many amazing things I don’t know where to start!
First, I’m so happy your mom is back home! I hope they get to the bottom of everything and figure out what caused the stroke.

Second, so happy you went with the pink pure cadences! I think they’re next on my list too!

Third, that fall post is so spot on, and so is Amy Hasting’s quote!

Lastly that donut looks ah-mazing. I hope your friend brings you one back!
Happy Friday!

So happy to hear that your mom is home. I pray that she will have a speedy and complete recovery and that you can find the source to keep anything like that from happening again. Moms should just never be sick. It just isn’t right.

Don’t you just love those Disney readers? My daughter has one two and it’s such a treat not to have to actually read a million books in a row…Just relax and be read to :)

I’m so thankful to heart that your mom is home!
I want that donut too, and the cookie recipe!
Sadly, I’m not running in the gorgeous weather we’ve been having due to ankle issues, but have had good quality time walking with my buddies!
This weekend my daughter is diving her first time for her scuba certification! We will be at the lake all day tomorrow. She is my water baby!

So glad she’s doing better. I love the quotes. Breathing out weakness is a great image for my mind during a hard, pain filled run.

Any bread from great harvest is a really great idea. I don’t have a favorite because they are all super yummy.

2 weeks until my next race! Just another 5k but I’m excited because it’s in park city and who doesn’t love a girls weekend in park city?

I’m so happy your mom is back home. I will continue to pray for her and your whole family. I love what you said about trusting in God’s plan versus worrying. When we can do this, it is so freeing and provides a whole lot of comfort.

Soooooo glad your mom is home now.

No running for me this weekend, taking 5 days off. Doctors orders. Hope to go for a run Monday morning. Then I will celebrate with a doughnut

Reply

Glad your mom is home, okay, and her heart is being monitored. That will give a good picture of what is going on with her heart. My father-in-law had one and it was shocking. He ended up getting a pacemaker and is doing better than he has in 10+ years. Brooke is beyond cute up on the chair helping you with your baking. I love the “faith” reminder that you are in good hands. And, don’t forget “my legs don’t hurt” during your marathon. Out of the mouths of babes. :)

So glad to hear she’s home! She’s in such great hands that your love alone could probably heal anything :)

I have another 1/2 this weekend; I ran one a couple weeks ago in lieu of a long run day because a friend got hurt. I’m super nervous but I’m going to try to incorporate the quote “Bring in strength, breath out weakness” any time I feel myself slipping. Such a powerful quote… thanks for sharing :)
While I’m super nervous about the 1/2, I’m super excited because it’s in Bellingham, WA and we’re going to stay with my bro and sis-in-law. My mom is walking/jogging the 10k and I’m secretly hoping to beat her. And then I can eat all the food :)

I said a little prayer for your family. Glad she is improving.

My running has been super sporadic these days. I’ve been a single mom all week but the hubs gets back tomorrow afternoon so I hope to get in a long run Sunday before he leaves again for 2 days. Thankful I’m not in full marathon training yet!

Weekend plans def entail baking up some of those sugar cookies. Thanks for the link!

Where in Hawaii is your friend? We are on Oahu and I need that donut with vanilla gelato, chocolate hazelnut sauce and roasted macadamia nuts!!! That would make my weekend plans complete.

I’m running 12 miles tomorrow – hitting up Tantalus mountain for some good downhill training. My husband is riding the Honolulu Century on Sunday. And we’ll be looking for shave ice sometime in between.

My running is going pretty good considering it’s 80 degrees here at 5:00 a.m. The first day was really bad but I felt strong yesterday.

Continued prayers for your mom! Glad she’s home and is being monitored closely.

I don’t really have any weekend plans, which is just the way I like it.

My running is hit and miss depending on the day lately. I’m in taper town and am in complete denial about the fact that my race is in two weeks.

So glad your mom is home! Things feel right with the world when mama is okay :)

16 miles tomorrow – in the rainy drizzle here in NC. Actually super psyched about it… and probably heading to bed like, now. Also doing some fall shopping now that the weather is cooling down some!

I have a very full Saturday. We will go to Red Lodge so I can get a long run and my husband can ride the Beartooth Pass. We might do this every weekend until the weather doesn’t permit. It’s a favorite place to go… even if it is 70 miles.

My daughter is moving Monday, so there is a farewell barbecue for her too.

Running is going good. I had IT band issues all through my marathon training until I started going to the PT. It’s better now, so I have hopes for a much better second marathon.

I’m SO glad your mom is home and I wish her a speedy recovery.

And I have to say… I would be really fat if I consumed calories via osmosis from your blog. All those treats look AMAZING.

Great news about your Mom coming home!! I will continue to pray for her health and recovery.
Running on Saturday and rest on Sunday. I am excited for a mellow weekend!!
There’s nothing like new marathon shoes!! :)

Reply

hey Janae! Soooo relieved to hear about your mom. I’ll say some prayers for her and your fam. I believe in fate too, and love that sign! What a good mantra!

so I noticed your switch from PureFlows to PureCandence – any reason why? I don’t like the Flows 3-4 because they narrowed the toebox on my poor fat feet and I couldn’t fit them. Ended up in a men’s Flow – which is fine for now! Are the Cadence any wider? The 2’s weren’t, they were actually narrower…but I figured best to ask a pro (you!) what you thought!! 29 days until the Marine Corps Marathon here and two more 20+ mile runs until the big day!!! Feeling good vibes thanks to extra yoga this time around…sending some your way!! Xo

Sending prayers for Mom. Glad she is back home.

I have a question on marathon shoes. Do you always run the race on a fresh pair of shoes? I struggle with using a new pair or the ones I have been breaking in during training. I have a marathon next week and I had planned to run on a pair that have about 220 miles on them (normally wear them for 300). OR should I be breaking in a new pair on my short miles this week and then race in them?

Reply

Hi Janae! Where did you find that choose faith sign? I really need it in my life!!

Reply

Oh I love the quote about breathing! I frequently use a slightly different version – I breathe in calmness and breathe out nervousness. You could use that before the race and the other during!

Reply

I’m glad to hear your mom is home and doing well. The sign you posted above about having faith instead of worry is so appropriate. I am reading this post a few days late and I feel like there was a reason I read that today because I needed to see that. You are right having faith and allowing God’s plan to unfold is the only way to be. Thanks for sharing!
