Our Bedroom Before and After + Heat Training

(Shoes, pants, shirt, vest, bra)

We were all hopeful we could get a workout/long run outside over the weekend.  We even drove to where the road conditions are usually the best.  After a few miles of the warm-up and hoping that the next street would be clearer… it just wasn’t going to happen.  It was way too slick, and I have no desire to put myself out for the year from one wrong step.

So we went to the gym and got a bunch of treadmills next to each other.

Twenty miles total, five outside and 15 inside.

The goal was a 13-mile tempo, but mentally, I could only get myself to do a 10-mile tempo @ 6:38 pace, I then ran easy for a bit and decided for my last 1.5 of the 20-miler I would finish @ a 6:35 pace.  I wasn’t there mentally for Saturday’s run, so I am thrilled with what I did!

I will now permanently store a pair of shorts in my car for days like this.  Although, the run was probably excellent heat training for my marathon.   Thank goodness I had my headphones so I could zone out, lock into a pace, and hit the beat of my playlist.

PS Did you hear the new Alphafly 3s sold out in 30 seconds?!  Did anyone get a pair?

And now for the best part…

I really should have taken my own pictures before but forgot to, so these were from the previous owners.

Also, I will forever be grateful we no longer have a glass door.

IMG 1126

There was nothing really wrong with our bedroom (besides the glass door), but we wanted something that felt more like us because we plan on this being our forever home.  I couldn’t leave this house or neighborhood if someone paid me 10x what our house is worth.

My sister is so talented at figuring out people’s styles and making a room come to life.   She is something else.  We are similar in many ways, but the way her brain works with design, I do not have.  We love more of a modern Scandinavian feel, filled with different textures while keeping it still cozy, and she delivered.

IMG 1268

She used cement siding for the exterior of homes for our fireplace, along with liquid nails, so you don’t see where it is connected.   We didn’t want a mantle and absolutely loved how it turned out!  The TV just kind of blends in with it all.  My sister and her husband did all the work on the fireplace themselves (besides the painting).  They need an HGTV show.  We wanted her to hire someone to do the siding work so she wouldn’t have to do it herself, but she wanted it perfect and refused to let anyone else touch it;)

IMG 1256

HOW DOES SHE DO THIS?!

IMG 1265

My sister found a store for the bedding were they have Pottery Barn, and West Elm returns there (that were never used), and you can grab a trash bag and fill it for $50!  So our bedding (pillows and sheets we already had) filled up 1.5 bags and was only $75!

What a great makeover! And a store where you can fill a bag! That sounds like a dream! How do I even see if there’s something comparable to where I live? I’m in the Bay Area. Certainly fancy people have returned fancy bedding and changed their fancy minds hehe!

Thank you so much, Shannon! I KNOW! I’ll ask around with my friends in the Bay and see if they know of any places like that. S) many fancy people there, haha. As I searched for the items online, my jaw dropped at their prices haha, I’m not that fancy. Hope your day is a wonderful one.

Alphas 3s? More like Alpha 30 seconds.
Your bedroom look amazing!! I don’t know if I am more amazed with the pricing or the visual of the room.
I love my neighborhood. It’s one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city with original horse posts and old trolly tracks to prove it. Neighbors are always out walking their dogs, running, biking, chatting with each other on front lawns. A lot of times when people find out where I live they say they used to live here too and miss the area. It’s worth the cracked plaster walls most days.
Now let’s get this day started so I can host my run club for dinner that I spent all weekend working on! Sending you dessert in the mail. ;)

Best dad joke EVER hahah. Sending that to my running friends (I’ll give you credit;). My sister is a genius with design and doing it for a good deal. Some areas in our city have original horse posts too, and it makes me so happy.. we don’t have trolly tracks, though. Your neighborhood sounds dreamy! TONIGHT IS YOUR NIGHT. I need to see pics on your IG stories so I can drool. Good luck, Molly!

The fireplace looks awesome! Your sister always does such a great job. I redid my fireplace last spring and chose black as well. I hope that black is trend that sticks around for a while….although black is my favourite colour, so I think I’ll be fine with it either way. I removed the bricks from the top half of the fireplace and replaced it with drywall, lowered the wooden mantel and painted the fireplace and walls on either side black. Love it!

Thank you so much, Corry! Okay, you have to send me a picture of your fireplace, it sounds stunning. I think the black will always look good, it will always be such a stunning focal point of the room! Keep enjoying, it’s now my favorite spot in my house. Have a wonderful day!

Your bedroom turned out so beautifully! I like Scandinavian too. I also love (my own style name) modern coastal farmhouse. I just love when everything feels cozy, comfy, and not fussy.
Good job getting the 20 miles done. And smart to take most of the run inside and be safe. I actually enjoy the treadmill. I was on a good cycle for a year, where I used the tread twice a week. I got out of that cycle back in July, but hoping to get back into a gym routine again.
We obviously, haven’t gotten snow. But wow the overnight temps have been cold (for us)! 38° last night. But I will take it. It’s nice to be able to run in colder temps.
Have a good Monday and a great start to the new week.

Thank you so much, Wendy! Ohhhhhh that does sound comfy. The treadmill really is such an amazing tool and it makes us so mentally strong too. That is very cold for you guys! Stay warm by your fire!

Your bedroom looks incredible. I love how the tv almost blends in. The colors are perfect. How does she do that?! 😍
My boyfriend builds furniture and beautiful pallet American flags as a hobby, and I do not understand people like that. He’ll just randomly build a farmhouse table. Your sister can just redo a whole house, nbd! I would definitely watch their HGTV show! I wish I could hire her. Haha.
Hope you can run outside this week!! I took my treadmill apart when we moved and I haven’t used it in like…8 months now? Idk how I used to run so many treadmill miles. 🤪

Thank you! I truly have no idea because my brain does not work like hers. I think I need to submit her portfolio to HGTV! Wow, your boyfriend sounds incredible. I need a picture of this table! Isn’t it funny how we can become so out of habit with something that we have used in the past so much? It took me a few miles to get the hang of it again on Saturday! Have a beautiful day, Mollie!

Oh my gosh, Janae, your room looks SO incredible!!! What a great vision by you and Andrew and what beautiful work by your sister and her hub to bring it to life. I want to move in, ha! We got snow over the weekend and I’ll soooo take it over the gray and brown that was outside– that gets to me, mentally! Have a wonderful start to your week!

Thank you so much! We are so happy about it:). I am with you on the gray and brown, the snow does spark joy! I am crossing my fingers I don’t slip today though haha. Thanks Courtney, you too!

I absolutely love your room! So gorgeous, your sister definitely has a talent for design! I won’t lie, I love my treadmill, hahah! Yes it saves me during the icy months but it also saves me when it’s a million degrees outside.

Oh my goodness! Your sister is like Joanna Gaines! I am in awe of people who can do that kind of thing. Even just with redesigning…I have none of that talent. It looks absolutely amazing.

Also, you’re bed! I just want to curl up in there and take a nap. Looks most cozy. I might have to get myself some new bedding 😉

Your room looks gorgeous. Its so nice to walk in a room and it just makes you feel happy! I am confused about your mentioning a glass door. Where was it?

We’ve been in our current house for almost 23 years. Our next move will be when Les retires and we downsize.

No snow here, but it is cold for us! 37 this morning with a biting wind.

The last time I was on a treadmill was summer of 2022 during our Alaskan cruise. I’m spoiled with our weather and really don’t need one.

I don’t have a design style but probably need to figure it out – we are getting ready to redo our interior. It’s past due and I need someone like your sister to be here and help us!

Your bedroom looks amazing! It’s cozy but so fresh! You are lucky to have your sister do the work for you
We have a fireplace at the end of our bed – it’s on a shiplap wall. It’s so cozy and we always get compliments on it
