When I pause my garmin or the treadmill and Boston Training Week #10 (just 6 more to go!!!)

Sunday morning I (and Brooke did too) slept through my phone ringing, my alarm clock going off, the doorbell ringing and someone knocking on my door.  My long run from the previous day must have put me in some sort of coma.  It was weird because I usually wake up to any and all noises.  Yesterday I was in who knows what kind of REM cycle… I slept like a rock.

After church we went over to my parents’ house and we went on a walk with my mom.

IMG 6907

Afterwards we made our signature cookies for friends.   Pretty sure making cookies for people is the main theme in Dale Carnegie’s book, ‘How To Win Friends & Influence People.’

IMG 6924

Baking is great but it is even a million times better when you can do it with the porch door open because it feels so nice outside.  I made a few of the cookies with a caramel filled chocolate egg on top.  Not very pretty but a brilliant tasting variation.

Sunday Dinner was with my second family!

IMG 6930

These girls know how to grill.

IMG 6931

We added a salad and a bunch of roasted veggies and had a great dinner table conversation.  Followed up by ice cream in a waffle cone, of course.

I am very particular about my running.  There are some things that I am running OCD about and will always continue to do these things a certain way.  Let’s talk about one of these—>  How I record my time/pace when I am running.  There are things I will pause for and things I will absolutely not pause for.  Injuries and emergencies aren’t part of this list because I will always stop for those  of course:)

NewImage

Reasons that I will pause my garmin:

-Having to stop for a stoplight or for cars.  Cars win over my frustration of having to pause my run.

-Bathroom breaks, water breaks, tying shoes, adjusting clothing (adding or taking off layers) or if I am running with people and they need to stop for a second.

*For example, during our long run on Saturday we probably paused our watches for a little bit about 9 times over the 20 miles for different reasons.  It happens.  It is actually harder for me to stop and then get my body moving again. I wish we never had to wait for cars or stop to grab water but we do and I don’t want to take in account waiting at a stoplight into my average pace.

Reasons I would never ever pause the garmin:

-Tempo/interval runs… UNLESS it is to stop for cars.  Otherwise, I don’t pause (I would keep the garmin going to tie my shoes or something like that if I had to during speed workouts).

-Speedwork on the track.  No reason to stop for cars etc. so I don’t.  I may for a second during the recoveries or warm-up/cool-down but not during the actual interval.

-A race.  Not ever going to happen.  Porta potties, walking through the water stations, tying my shoe—>  I do not pause the garmin in a race.

Reasons I would pause the treadmill:

-I am doing an easy run and I need to use the restroom, I need to tie my shoe or I am dying of thirst and need to refill my water bottle.  I may also pause the treadmill for a bit to take a phone call real quick if it is just an easy/recovery run.

-I drop my phone, it hits the treadmill belt and goes flying off the back. (Although, I probably wouldn’t pause the treadmill if this occurred during a tempo or speed workout on the treadmill… The phone can wait, the tempo cannot).

-When the treadmill makes me stop at 60 minutes.

Reasons I would never ever pause the treadmill:

-I am doing speedwork.  Nope.  Not going to happen.  I am much too stubborn for pausing during a hard workout.   The only way I would pause it is if Brooke needed something/diaper changed etc but that hasn’t happened in about 8 weeks.  I feel like I would need to start the workout all over again if I took a break/paused the treadmill during one of the intervals or a tempo run.  I go into these workouts with everything I need right there and my shoes laces double knotted.  I am going to do the workout that is prescribed without pausing the treadmill.

——————————————————-

Monday– 9 miles @ 8:34 average pace.

Tuesday– 10 miles @ 7:11 average pace with 5 mile repeats!  2 mile warm-up and mile repeats at 6:18, 6:15, 6:10, 6:10 and 6:10.  .25 mile recoveries in between each mile repeat.  2 mile cool-down.    Power Yoga class that evening!

Wednesday– 8 miles @ 8:18 average pace.

Thursday– Taught spin + 5 miles @ 7:30 average pace.

Friday–  Off.

Saturday– 20 miles @ 7:57 average pace.  Only run outdoors this last week and it was great therapy—>  fresh air, friends, sunshine and a great feeling run.

My husband is obsessed with the caramel eggs – I think I may need to surprise him with a batch of cookies like that!

I do pause my garmin at red lights but not at water breaks, since you can’t pause race time at water stations.

Best thing I ate this weekend: Buffalo Wild Wings potato wedges with ranch.
Best workout last week: Back-to-back hikes this weekend. Gorgeous 70 degree weather out!

I always will pause my garmin to stop for cars on a long run. I’ve never paused it at a race! I figure the time’s running anyway. Never for speedwork either although it’s not like I do a ton of that. I am not big on pausing in general!

Reply

For me the treadmill is more of a mental battle than anything. I try hard to just get on and go (no pausing). That being said, it often gets hard. I’ll pause if I need to use the rest room but I generally don’t pause to just pause.

If I remember my Garmin then it’s a good day, I don’t not, ally pause it at stop lights or crossing the road. I always have an issue with it synching back up.

Reply

If I have to stop for an extended period of time, I’ll stop my garmin/treadmill, but generally I let it go only because if any of those things happen during a race, the official clock doesn’t stop for me then. Granted, I don’t have to stop for a stop light during a race, so I will usually pause it then.

Best run – 20 miler this weekend. I think I’m finally nailing down what I can and can’t eat during a run and it is helping so much!

Best thing I ate this weekend – s’mores!

Reply

I am like you, I will pause my Garmin for stop lights, tying shoes, going to the bathroom or any of the necessities, but otherwise I do not pause it. I also never pause during a race since the official time isn’t going to include any pauses!

Best thing I ate over the weekend were amazing steak tacos with mango salsa. Mmmmmm!

Reply

I am usually pretty lax about the watch but when I am doing a 16 or 20 miler and trying to gauge my progress I hate to have extra non moving minutes. So I might pause it for a traffic light or stopping at my car for fuel.

I ran 3 miles outside and without knee pain! It was a glorious day. Getting art and graston and I think it’s helping :)

I baked and ate an apple crisp. Yep. The whole thing. Oopsie

Reply

I pause my Garmin for stops that are out of my control (lights or to give my son something if I have the running stroller!) I pause the treadmill for
Child-related reasons or a bathroom break :)

The bat thing I ate was your chocolate chip cookies! We love the recipe and usually make it at least once a month lol!

No hard workouts for me as I’m taking it easy before I start up training for my next race (I just did PHOENIX last weekend.)

Reply

Same here- I will pause Garmin for cars, stop lights, water and check on my son who I do many of my runs with in his Bob stroller. I rarely pause the treadmill unless it is to use the wash room (which is more now since entering my third trimester. Poor little bladder).

Best thing I ate this weekend- Sex in a pan ohhhh so good.

WHAT is that?!?

Thank you so much!! that looks dangerously good :) May have to try some out!

I always pause my Garmin to stop for cars and for water. I figure during a race I can run/slow to walk with my cup from the aid station, while I have to stop for a drinking fountain during a normal run.
Best thing I ate last week: beet, butternut, goat cheese and argula salad with a side of perfectly crisp fries.
Best run last week: a hilly 12.5 miler!

Reply

Running OCD = If I have X number of miles on the agenda, I will be doing X number of miles that day. Even if I feel tired or my legs feel like bricks. The tough runs are the ones that make us mentally strong! ….oh, and I’m stubborn :)

Best thing I ate was chocolate chip muffins #allthechocolate

Do you pause your garmin when running outside and waiting at a light or when you get a drink etc? Or do you keep it going?
-My Garmin stops automatically if I’m stopped for more than a few seconds (at a stoplight), but I never physically stop it until I’m done running!

What was the best thing that you ate over the weekend?
-I made stewed beef with Guinness..it was so amazing! Also had lots of girl scout Tagalong cookies :D

Reply

I will pause my Garmin in if I have to pee or get a drink. Other than that, it keeps right on ticking.

My best run was yesterday. I only did six miles, but I can feel myself getting stronger since my back surgery. My back was really hurting at the beginning and it was slowing me down. But I encountered a hill, which I love. I am the hill monster. My speed increases when I run a hill. After that hill, it was figuratively all down hill. I kept on going, my back eased up, and with each mile I grew stronger and stronger. Loved it!

Reply

The weather was gorgeous in TN!!!
I pause at lights and water stops but never during a race.
Running OCD: Its ok off my mileage goes over but never under.
Best weekend food: (don’t judge) crinkle fries dipped in queso!!!
I had a great long run!!

Reply

yes. Same here. I pause at lights. Sometimes at water stops.
If I head out to run 3 miles…I must run 3 miles. If I head out to run 2.5 miles I have to run that. I can’t run 2.97. But I can totally run 3.01 and usually will.

Reply

Exactly!!

Reply

I always wonder when people pause the garmin, I do it for all cars and stop lights and if I really feel like a walk break will help my run.
Best workout this week: an incredible yoga sesh- I lived in a yoga community for three months last year and did one of the classes I had recorded on my phone! It was so amazing to listen to all my lovely yoga friends as we did the class together, this time. A year later in a completely different country! :)

Reply

I never pause my garmin, period. How’s that for serious OCD. If I have to stop at all it’s all part of my time just as it would be in a race.

Reply

Do you pause your garmin when running outside and waiting at a light or when you get a drink etc? Or do you keep it going? I use a Soleus GPS, and I do not pause. Because like you, I would not pause it in a race to use the bathroom, tie my shoes, or hydrate, so I try to replicate that in practice. I get the pausing at stop lights, but I do not see enough stop lights in my training runs to get into the habit. If I did pause it I would forget to start it when I began running again.

Please share any of your Running OCDs please! I prefer socks that are labeled L and R so I do not have to decide which foot to dress with which sock. My socks need to match my outfit. My bra needs to match even if it is not showing. If I forget to charge my GPS watch or forget to wear it, I have a hard time convincing myself to go for the run anyway (although I am getting better about that). And my Soleus GPS keeps a charge waaaaay longer than my last GPS watch.

What was the best thing that you ate over the weekend? Homemade veggie/lentil soup by yours truly!

What was your best run or workout from last week? Details please! Wednesday was my birthday so I did my regular route in reverse, to make it special! Followed by a sauna and a steam #bliss

Reply

Teach me to match please:) Your soup sounds amazing and happy birthday last Wednesday!!!

I always pause to refuel on long runs, but I’ve always questioned whether or not this is a good idea. Still, I haven’t changed my ways yet :-)

My big OCD thing that I’m SLOWLY getting better at is, if it says 16 miles I HAVE to run at least 16 miles. Not 15.9 or 15.98…16. So people will see me running up and down my street until I hit that perfect, even number.

Best thing I ate (you would die of happiness over this) —> a sweet potato sandwich. Sounds weird right? Hands down my fav sandwich in Boston. It’s sweet potato, avocado, red onion, tomato, cheese, poppyseed yogurt sauce, and of course I add bacon…all on sour dough bread. it.is.incredible. I ran straight there from my long run I was craving it so badly! Mouth is watering now just thinking about it!

I had a good speed workout last Tuesday. Mile repeats :-)

Happy Monday!

Reply

I absolutely need to know more about this sandwich so I can get about recreating it at home. How are the sweet potatoes cooked?? Crispy, mashed, roasted? I need this in my life!

Reply

Stephanie,

I think it’s just baked and sliced! Crispy would be aaamazing though!

Reply

Um…wow on this sandwich. It sounds amazing.

Reply

I live near Boston; where is this sandwich?!!

Reply

Caitlin,

The sandwich is at Ula Cafe in Jamaica Plain. Right by the Sam Adams brewery!

Reply

I ran a 5k on Saturday in the Florida Keys! Such a pretty place to run!

Reply

I always pause my garmin and have to put in my right shoe first.

Reply

I have to put on my left shoe first. I feel weird otherwise

Reply

I’m the same with pausing my garmin! Haha you’ve got to stick to the OCD rules so everything can be compared! It’s just like a science experiment… gotta keep the constants. ;)

Reply

I want to say the best thing I ate all weekend was my cold stone creamery sundae in the chocolate dipped waffle bowl but I just didn’t love it this time as I usually do! Maybe it was my choice in flavors or maybe I was just full. I don’t know! In theory it was terrific!

Reply

I have my Garmin set on auto-pause, so I don’t even have to think about it :) I turn this off during a race though.

Running OCDs: My hair cannot be loose at all, and my shirt cannot ride up at all or else it gets tucked in.

Best thing I ate this weekend was veggie lasagna and the hubs’ homemade mint/oreo ice cream. He makes it with coconut/almond milk, so it’s dairy free for the kiddos and it’s so delish!

One of my best workouts was on Saturday when I did a double t-25.

Reply

I’m so glad you wrote this about pausing the Garmin. I do it all the time and thought I was the only OCD person around. I even pause it when someone’s dog starts coming after me. For some reason, dogs like to chase me and people think they don’t need to have their dogs on leashes. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been bit minding my own business on a run. Now I stop and stare at the dog hence the Garmin pause. What’s strange to me is the owners never apologize or seem to think its wrong their dog wasn’t contained. It’s a funny world!

Reply

When it comes to running outside I completely agree with your reasons of when to stop and when not to. Race day for sure i never stop it! My best run was my one and only run this week. Still recovering from my half last weekend.

Reply

i feel like i sort of go into a coma when my weekly mileage gets to 50+ miles….

Reply

Speaking of Brooke’s diaper being changed, is she potty trained yet? I have a daughter about the same age and I’m having a hard time with her. She hates the potty!

Reply

Uhhhhh… it’s not going. She wants nothing to do with the potty. Nothing! Preschool starts in August and so I am getting nervous! WHAT SHOULD WE DO!?!?!

Reply

I run with Nike+, which automatically pauses when I stop for longer than about 3 seconds. I’m less OCD about pausing, but I’m also a much less intense runner. :) The only thing I will not pause for is a race!

Reply

I’m incredibly OCD about pausing, and I pause in all of the same instances you do. It’s just automatic! My best run last week was probably my long run on Saturday, just because for the first time all year, nothing hurt! :) I finally went to a running store and got fitted for the correct shoes. Amazing what a difference that makes!

Reply

Your “signature cookies” always look so doughy and delicious! Always just slightlyyyy undertaking them is the best :)

Reply

“underBaking”- my computer doesn’t recognize that word and tried to autocorrect it. clearly, my laptop wouldn’t make the best cookies! ;)

Reply

I pause the treadmill for a drink and if I need to go to the bathroom (because after having two kids, that can’t wait). The best thing I ate this weekend was my salad at dinner last night. Lettuce, strawberries, goat cheese and maple balsamic vinaigrette. Love!

Reply

Hi! I’ve been following your blog for years now. I love running but since having my oldest child in 2012 I have trouble making time. I’m about to purchase a treadmill for home and I’m afraid she will try to climb on while I’m running! How do you keep Brooke at a safe distance while running on the treadmill?

Reply

Maybe buy one of those octagon looking “kid pens” to keep your daughter safe when you are running….except put it around you/treadmill instead of confining her to it? My son was pretty good at staying out in front of me where I could see him (sort of blocked by furniture too) but found it pretty funny to roll his ball towards me and have the treadmill belt shoot it out behind!

Reply

Hey Jessica! Brooke is extremely cautious and doesn’t even attempt to come near it. She is usually on the other side of the room with her toys or sitting and watching the tv so I don’t have to worry about it! I agree with Wendy–> try a kid pen!

Reply

I have to have comfortable pants or shorts on if I have to constantly pull and adjust my clothing it is going to be a bad run:-/. My Garmin forerunner 15 has an option to pause automatically when I stop running and it is my favorite feature by far, I live in an area where there are a ton of stop lights so I hate for that to skew my data.

Reply

Great job on the 20 miler :)

My running OCD- I can’t do 3 mile, 6 mile, or 13 mile runs. It has to be rounded up to 3.1 miles, 6.2 miles or 13.1 miles- always a race!

My best run from this week was a 5k race that I won (and over 90 seconds faster than last year).

Also, I love your pants in the first picture. Where are they from?

Reply

Hey Julie!!! Your running OCD is awesome:) UMMMMMMM HUGE CONGRATS ON YOUR 5k THAT YOU WON!! You are amazing. A huge PR and 1st place! WOW!! Here are the pants:

I usually pause at lights because I like my pace to be as quick as possible. :) Last night I had an Oreo McFlurry which was absolutely delicious. And it’s finally getting warmer here, which is so refreshing! :)

Reply

I would never stop my garmin during a race, either! I stop it for stoplights, and sometimes when I run into friends while running and stop to chat…

My best run was my long run. I felt pretty ‘off’ most of last week…I think I needed some extra recovery time, and taking Saturday off helped my run on Sunday. My best meal was sashimi after my long run, and home-made malva pudding for dessert!

Reply

Yup, I agree with your entire list. I pause my Garmin for stoplights, bathroom breaks, running breaks in general (sometimes I need to stop and lower my heart rate), etc. But of course I would never pause during a race!

Reply

Unless I am doing a race, race simulation, or some sort of speed work, I have no problem pausing my Garmin and stopping and various reasons (restroom, food, take layers off, etc.). I try my best not to stop, but it’s always inevitable.

My running OCD is acknowledging other runners. Whether it’s a wave, smile, or “hello”, I think it’s important to share the joy when out on the trails. I make it a point to at least smile and nod (especially if they have music in).

My favorite workout from last week was actually a 30-mile bike ride. The weather has been gorgeous and my bike was calling my name. It was glorious.

Reply

I do not pause my Garmin ever – I do get stopped at red lights on some routes, but I don’t bother to pause the watch. I figured it is a break. When I was marathon training, it also gave me a realistic time to when I would finish as I knew I had to have some bathroom breaks during the marathon (Yay for “that time” to appear on marathon day). My watch does tell me “moving time” – so I know how fast I actually ran a route. Which is how I know I spent 40 minutes in or waiting for the bathroom on marathon day :-)

the best workout I had last week was my speed workout on the track. I was able to share the track with the Canadian marathon record holder, Lanni Marchant. Made my day/week/month. She made me go fast…. :-)

Reply

My best run this weekend was my 10k race I ran on Saturday. It was not my best time by far (in fact my second worst), but it was the first race I’ve done in over a year without pain, so I’m happy! The mug of hot chocolate at the end didn’t hurt either! The yummiest thing was then the Red Thai Coconut Curry on penne with prawns that I had at the Old Spaghetti Factory after the race. Soooooooo yummy!

Reply

Your Tuesday workout is freaking amazing. JEEZ, woman. I actually don’t stop my watch at all! I keep it running, I guess because in a race we don’t get to stop the clock. And my running OCD is that when I run with someone, I always need to be on their left hand side. If I run to their right, I tend to swerve into them.

Reply

yummm those cookies look great- and I love that brooke helps you make them! So sweet :) The best thing I ate was chocolate chip blondies.. yum.

Reply

My oddest OCD is that when I track my mileage in Training Peaks I won’t include the .2 or .1 at the end UNLESS it is a chip-timed race. I also make myself run .01 additional for each mile I ran…… 26.26, 1.01, 3.03… but on Training Peaks I just log 26, 1, 3… I assume this is to make up for .01 every mile where I slacked somehow.
I’m completely inconsistent on when I pause my Garmin. I agree NEVER during a race, but sometimes I do during training and sometimes not. I find I hustle though my breaks faster when I leave it running… and then sometimes I zone out and I finished my run 15 minutes ago, but the Garmin ticks on. HATE that.

Reply

Haha, I know the feeling of sleeping through the alarm! We bought our first house on Friday, and worked on it all weekend, so I slept through mine this morning too. Whoops!

Those roasted veggies look so yummy, do you have a recipe?

Reply

I used to pause my running app for every possible reason, but now I leave it running all the time. Sometimes I turn it off for street lights, though.

Reply

All of the other comments are on running and I just want to know where you got your adorable pants in the first picture? :)

Yumm grilled veggies are the best. and those look so good.!

Great job on your running week. So greatt.! :) I neverrr stop my watch, well, becasue I never have to.! I live out in a small country town, so never any car problems, no stoplights in the whole town, and I never stop for potty breaks or water breaks. ha.! but it’s really interesting to read about… never thought about it really :)

My running OCD is my shoelaces.!!! they have to be absolutly perfect. Like not too tight, not to loose, and have to be even with the other pair. lol.

Reply

I had a 10 mile workout last night–I think that, plus the time change, really messed me up. I could not get up this morning, and I am starving all day.

The best thing I had all weekend was G.H. Cretors Chicago Mix popcorn.. similar to the kind at Trader Joe’s. I went through 2 bags. Ooops!

Reply

I have TOO many OCD things when I’m running. I have to have my music, my water and my Garmin. I can actually run without music before water. Even with water stops planned I have to have it. I’m sure some runners need more hydration during a run then others. My brother is the same way. When I go on a long run I look like a freaking pack mule. Oh well….embrace it!!

Reply

OK….the auto video that starts every time I go on your site is almost TOO much. Annoying!

Reply

I AM SO SORRY!!!! I don’t know why videos have started. I emailed my ad company!

Reply

Like you, I’ll stop my Garmin for cars, but I really don’t like to stop much at all. I NEVER touch it during a race, though.

The best thing I ate all weekend was definitely froyo, as usual. They still have the Honey Graham Cracker flavor, so my post-church visits to my favorite froyo place have been even better lately.

My best run last week was definitely a progressive tempo I had. I’m coming off a LONG stint with plantar fasciitis, so it felt really good to go fast again!

Reply

I’m kind of the same – I never pause during tempo/speed work even if I did have to stop for something. On regular runs (pretty much all mine now since I’m training for nothing) I pause it at lights, for cars, etc. but not if I just want to walk a second or whatever. I switched to elastic laces like triathletes use years ago because I use to have to stop ALL the time for untied shoes. These make it so easy – I love them! I buy a new pair every time I get new shoes.

I love Brooke’s bunny slippers :)

Reply

I hate stopping my Garmin!! I only will for a stoplight or car. It never gets stopped during speedwork! Best thing I ate this weekend was definitely pancakes with lots of pb and syrup. Best run was a 7 miler after 3 days off with my cousin who is home from college!

Reply

I’ve always thought it was the worst thing ever to pause a Garmin at stoplights…so I usually just run up and down the street like a maniac. ;) Good to see it’s not actually that big a deal!

If I’m on the treadmill, I will pause it if I did something dumb like tie one shoelace ridiculously tight but I hate starting all over again so I try not to.

Reply

My best workout ramping up for Boston was this last weekend. Twenty mile “simulated” Boston training run with six x two mile repeats with a half mile (20 seconds slower) float. Intervals were to be a goal pace (which I’m not sure what that is right now.) Sets were; 7:25, 7:27, 7:28, 7:25, 7:19, and 7:18. HUGE confidence boost. On the Garmin front, I stop it at stoplights and don’t know why as it will calculate average moving pace afterwards, but throws off the pace during the run (unless I go in and figure out how to automatically pause when I stop. I know it’s simple, but just haven’t set it up.)

Reply

Holy cow!! Awesome workout! You should be confident after that one! I want to try this one:)

Reply

I always pause my Garmin if I have to wait for a car or to cross the street. I also pause my Garmin on the trails if I have to wait for a mountain biker to go past.
My running OCD is if I run in my neighborhood or in residential areas I need headphones but on the trails I don’t. I truly enjoy the sound of nature.
Best food I ate all weekend goes to Pita Jungle’s hummus trio and their Mediterranean Chicken Salad!!
My best run was my Saturday trail run. I climbed some hills and was just outside enjoying the sun and peace and quiet for 3 hours!!! I wish I could do that everyday.

Reply

I definitely pause my garmin when I have to stop.

One of my OCD running things is that I like to end runs on a tenth of a mile. For example if get to the end of my run and my garmin says that I ran 4.52 miles, I will continue running until I get to 4.6 miles. I don’t like those hundredths…

Reply

I want your salad.

I hope that’s not too creepy.

Reply

I was finally able to run outside this weekend in Chicago and I only paused my tracker when I had to climb colossal ice and snow mounds. Actually, on the way back I just said screw it because it was taking me too much time. Running in the city definitely requires some pausing when you are waiting to cross the street!

Reply

I follow pretty much exactly the same guidelines for pausing as you do! My husband never stops his watch and I don’t understand! It would drive me crazy to let it run while I was stopped at a light.

Reply

I don’t pause for much…unless I have to stop, like absolutely have to.
I ran my first 20 miler over the weekend and didn’t die so I considered that a pretty big success! ;)

Reply

I have a running/any workout OCD about my shoe laces and my hair tie. I have to tie and then re-tie my shoelaces at least 3 times to get just the right tightness. Also, I’ve had my hair tie break on me before and didn’t have an extra one while running–nightmare! So I have to have an extra hair tie on my wrist and a few in whatever pocket I have.

Best workout from last week was a tie between body attack and Grit class.

The pic of Brooke baking cookies is precious. :) Have a great week Janae!

Reply

Holy moly you must’ve been tired!!! Those cookies look amazing :)

Reply

I love your list-I am pretty similar to you! It drives me nuts to have to start and stop my watch when I’m crossing the street. So frustrating!!!

I want those cookies right now! Get in my belly!

Reply

The best thing I ate this weekend was yellow peeps. They were amazing. My mom visited and brought them for me because she knows I love them.

Reply

I never stop my Garmin for anything. I figure it doesn’t matter the reason I stop during a race, so…. (And I probably need to relax! LOL)

Reply

I’m kind of opposite of you. I very rarely pause my watch (Polar) during training. Never for a red light or cars, only for longer brakes like potty or stopping to read real estate flyers, peak in windows etc. But I will pause my watch for every little thing except water stations during a race. The way I figure it, the official time keepers have my chip time and gun time, but I want to know my actual running time/splits etc. This way I get both.

I don’t have any running OCDs except I absolutely MUST make sure I have my hair completely out of my face. Those little fly aways that tickle my face drive me crazy.

I haven’t eaten anything really great lately! I need to fix this, STAT.

Reply

I definitely pause it for lights, bathroom breaks, and water (during regular runs)! Actually- my watch is set to pause automatically for that anyways. Running OCD- must stretch the hamstrings (touching toes while standing with 1 leg crossed over the other) before ANY run. I know they say dynamic stretching is better, but this is a must for me. I don’t know if it was the cause, but the only time I didn’t do this and stuck with dynamic stretching, my back blew out during a race (I have a bad back…).

I always pause my watch for cars and lights when running on the streets and will pause for bathroom breaks and water stops as they are usually located off of my running course. During a race, I only pause my watch during Disney races when I stop for characters or during a marathon when I ride a roller coaster haha

and the best thing I ate this weekend was creme brulee ice cream from Sprinkles! amazing!

I never pause when I run. It helps motivate me to run faster if I know I am being stopped by an obstacle. The best thing I ate this weekend was a double chocolate cupcake from Gigi’s!

I had Friday off – so I worked out with my trainer in the morning (which made me feel super weak), so I went for a 5 mile run later that afternoon, and it was GORGEOUS outside :) Perfect weather after all of our snow/ice/cold/rain nonsense for the past 2 weeks.

Running OCD -> Cannot stop unless the treadmill is on a .25 mile interval or an even minute. There’s no way I can stop at 6:59 or something. And lip gloss before EVERY run. Always. No hair in my face. Along with not being able to do anything other than .25, I will run around in a circle to get my garmin from 3.8 miles to 4.0. Haha!

I can’t stand pausing my Garmin! On today’s run, I paused me Garmin twice to check on my toddler… first he wanted me to take his fruit snack pouch (couldn’t just hang on to it I guess?) and then I put my sunglasses on him so he could comfortably take a nap on the run :) Running while pregnant makes me pretty laxed when it comes to pausing my Garmin. Training mode is totally different though!

When I’m training, my reasons to pause the Garmin or the treadmill are similar to yours. It is a bit annoying that treadmills automatically stop at the 60 minute mark!

They are my favorites!

Thanks! Your pants look green in pic? Just the lighting or are they blue?

They are green! I bought mine in the store though so maybe they don’t have the green online!

The best thing that I ate over the weekend was homemade fettuccine alfredo! My husband makes the noodles and the alfredo by scratch. Pair it with a beer, and I was in heaven!

I work as a club pacer, so we are not allowed to pause our watches during training runs. Let me tell you, I cringe a little when I have to watch it running as I use the bathroom, drink water, etc.

Reply

I don’t stop mine for cars, tying shoes, etc. but I do for longer stops like bathroom breaks. Admittedly the main reason I don’t stop it is because sometimes I forget to start it again and nothing ticks me off more than that!!

I never hit pause. I guess that makes me really stubborn?!

One of my running ocds is that my feet have to feel perfect in my shoes. I usually retie my laces a few times during warm-up to make sure that they aren’t too tight or too lose. I also hate my socks bunching, but I am sure that would drive anyone crazy!
