twenty-miles.old-fashioned-donuts.an-important-event.

First 20 miler of this training cycle done and done.  There have been a few 16 milers, an 18ish miler and now I can add a 20 miler to the list.  We are getting closer.

Self-timers are difficult sometimes and I am glad we look like we are trying to surf or something.

We all needed a change of scenery yesterday.

We usually stick to pretty much the same route each week but decided that we needed something exciting and different because we knew we were going to be out there for awhile.  I have always wanted to run down to Utah Lake and so that is what we did.  The first 10 to the lake were downhill overall which meant that the 10 miles back to our car had more uphill——>  perfect training for the Boston course.

45 degrees and out of all of my long runs thus far, this one felt the best.    We had water bottles planted along the way and shot bloks (I need a break from Caramel Gus for a bit) to keep us fueled and hydrated.

IMG 6823

We had an overall pace of 7:57 and we were able to talk/laugh the entire time—>  I think that good things are going to happen in 6 weeks and one day.

I got home from the run only 15 minutes after Brooke woke up for the day (we slept at my mom’s house).  Mission accomplished.  I always keep Brooke up with me a little bit later on Friday nights so that she sleeps in a bit more so I get home from my long run at about the same time that she wakes up.

Enter in a nutrient dense bfast and lunch and then this of course….

IMG 6849

Two of my good friends took me and the Brookers for donuts.  We had to get a variety (2 more not pictured) in order to figure out which flavor was the best.  I am all about the old-fashioned donuts… I don’t need all of the fancy stuff;)

IMG 6851

At night Brooke and I had a very important event to attend.  One that she has been looking forward to for months.

Disney on Ice.

She LITERALLY sat on the edge of her seat for the entire show.   She also only blinked maybe a handful of times over the 1 hour and 45 minutes.

And then we all lost an hour of sleep due to Daylight Savings.   BUT at least that means that summer is getting near.

Fill in the blank—>  Sunday =s _______________________________!!!!!

Sunday is my long run. 20 miles for me this morning too. Donuts are the best, we just bought a bunch of donut holes yesterday so I believe that will be my pre-run breakfast. I’m not excited about the time change! Losing an hour of sleep is no fun. Have a great Sunday!

Great job on the awesome 20 miler! Your route looks s pretty and the hills actually sound nice!
Donuts are the best. We had a bunch from Strange Donuts in St. Louis. I’m a fan of all the fancy flavors, although glazed old-fashioned really is the best.
Sunday is church, time with family, and then that boring long drive back home!

I learned how hard self timers are when visiting friends in Rochester. We basically gave up LOL. Anyways those photos look so pretty.

I love to refuel with donuts. Those are my favorite treats (except red velvet cake). Have a great Sunday Janae!

yay for running!!

My daycare lady was a Disney on Ice skater for years. I pretty much give her the credit for getting Max all obsessed with Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters. As I type this he is packing his bag yet again for our DisneyLand trip next week.

Awesome run!! I’m excited for you for Boston!! It’s been WAY too long since I’ve had a donut, but my favorite are actually donuts from Whole Foods, and they are baked instead of fried, but taste just as good!!!

Sundays are my rest day, and my day to meal prep for the week, clean, hang out with my niece and nephew, go to church, etc. I love Sundays.

You are going to be so ready for Boston. The thought of training for a marathon is overwhelming to me, so I just stick with the half.

That is a FANTASTIC first 20 miler. You NAILED IT! We’ve had warm spring weather here and I’m dying to get out for a long run today but I’ve got the kids on my own (husband is doing an open house). Maybe I’ll sneak out for a shorter one later on when he gets home!

Reply

Oh my gosh those donuts looked amazing!

Sundays = coffee and reading in bed.

Reply

Does that mean you started your run at 330 am??

Those donuts look amazing. Yesterday I had a lemon and pistachio old fashioned. If you ever want some fancy donuts, come visit Chicago where they are all over the place!

20 miles is insane!! Good job, girl! I went to go try my FIRST apple fritter on Friday and they were all out :( :( ended up getting a maple iced but I’m still craving that fritter!

Reply

I wish I could get anywhere near that time for a 20 miler, just Wow! Excellent job!

I absolutely love any of the performances on Ice! I will never forget seeing the “Ice Capades” when I was about Brooke’s age!

I’m waiting for it to warm up a bit before I set out for a 2 hour run, then dinner with my son :). Have a great day Janae!

Way to go on the long run! I can’t believe your training cycle is already starting to near the end. I feel like it wasn’t that long ago that you qualified and now the race is almost here!

Sunday = time to get myself in gear for the week ahead! While I love a good lazy Sunday, if I don’t use the day to prep and straighten up the house, it sets me week off on the wrong foot.

Sundays = time with my husband. This Sunday I had a 10 miler race that was rescheduled from a few weeks ago. I’ve been sick but had a pretty good race, all things considered!

Reply

I love me some donuts, but its true.. the simple are the best. I like old fashioned, but cake donuts with chocolate frosting are the real winners ;)

Way to go on your run! You are amazing! I can’t wait to take my little girl to Disney On Ice when she is a little bit older! :) Sunday= church, family time, and a day off from work :)

i am totally with you on old fashioned donuts! simple, class, the best.

Congrats on the 20-miler! I can’t wait to read about your experience in Boston (Massachusetts native here). And I can’t think of a better way to refuel after 20 miles than with all those donuts. ;)

Reply

You rock–at running, and being a momma. Holay molay, lady!

Sundays = still in bed with coffee. And it’s 2:10 pm. Oops.

Reply

Donuts are great post run food as long as your stomach can handle it. Only thing better is chocolate milk.
Your first marathon and you take 5th overall? That’s just not fair. You’re like Grete Waitz. Now that you train more for marathons, have you taken first in any of them?

Reply

Congrats on the 20 miler! In my marathon training, that’s when I felt like things were getting real. You’re almost there!

For me, Sundays = yoga or a bike ride and catching up on reading.

Reply

Sunday=recovery day. From running and rough days. Sunday is a good day. Moving forward day.

Reply

Wait, is anyone else going to comment on that fact that you just finished a 20 miler and it was 6am? I’m not sure how to read that, or did you start at 6am? Cause that is super early to be finishing! Please let it be that you started then…haha. I’m all for old fashion donuts too, so good, but I like the chocolate ones.

Reply

Sundays = Church, coffee and family walks!

WOW… awesome pace for your 20-miler! Looks like you have a fun running crew :) And those doughnuts are almost too pretty to eat! If they had a jelly-filled one, I would be all over it.
