Because horsey rides after a 16 mile run are the only way to properly cool-down.
Hershey’s, thank you for catering to runners. If only more companies would design their products with runners in mind.
Brooke knows what’s up. She always stops in the nut butters section at any and all grocery stores.
I can’t believe I am saying this but at this point in my life I choose lemon cake over chocolate cake. My mom had this for us on Sunday and it knocked my socks off. The sugar glaze has been a part of my dreams ever since.
I always appreciate when it is raining outside because then I know for sure Brooke will be properly hydrated that day.
Welcome to my office. I sit on the floor while wearing leggings and slippers and there are always snacks within reach. Always.
Jen’s comment helped me to feel much better about Boston because I AM EXHAUSTED lately!
Three great things happened last night:
1. I ate a chicken taco salad. Chicken + water + taco seasoning + crockpot. Tortilla, lettuce, Spanish rice (from a box), guac, mango salsa and sour cream.
2. My favorite store bought ice cream for dessert.
3. Sherlock. A must watch if you have a lot of free time at night to spend on Netflix while eating your favorite store bought ice cream.
Just because this one makes me really happy.
PS I am recruiting people to run my 22 miler with me this week… come on, you know you want to come.

Those blue lulu leggings seriously are the best and I wear them for everything, I have to hold myself back from buying them in another color. I love chocolate but not so much chocolate cake and a really good lemon cake is just amazing! I think Haagen Dazs is the best ice cream :)
Emily
Which lulu leggings are these? She’s mentioned it before but I can’t remember. They are darling. I really feel like I NEED some. :)
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
The high times pant, so comfy and the fit is perfect. More of a yoga pant but I wear them constantly.
Jennifer @ JenChoosesJoy
Channeled you during my time trial and kept repeating I can do hard things!
Dinner: gnocchi!
I’m worn out from peak marathon miles. Boston is almost here!!!
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
Spaghetti with homemade sauce for dinner last night. Have to say, it was pretty awesome!
I was really tired on my run yesterday. After my legs were loosened up it was fine, but definitely tired this week!
I’m loving Madam Secretary and Elementary right now. I also just binge watched Girlfriends Guide to Divorce and really liked it!
Private Selection Cookies and Cream ice cream. It’s been my kryptonite for a few months now.
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I wish I could work from home in yoga pants every single day. Fun and comfy! Are you still doing strength training too Janae as you train for Boston?
Erica { EricaDHouse.com }
That chocolate running bunny is the best thing ever.
Show I’m loving? I’m stuck in the 90’s so currently re-watching Charmed and passing out every time I think the X-Files might actually be coming back.
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
Training has me tired, my legs constantly feel fatigued! I feel like the last weeks before the taper train the mind to run through fatigue as muchas they train the body.
Sherlock is one of my favorite shows! I recently watched Broadchurch (also a BBC show on Netflix) and was obsessed.
Dinner last night was pulled pork pizza. back when I lived in Ohio, Graeters was my favorite store-bought ice cream.
Victoria
Idea: lemon cake with chocolate fudge frosting. That way you get both.
Jessica @ VEGGIE RUNNING MOMMA
I had Tillamook icecream also :) cookies and cream. Theee best brand. From oregon :)
I love your office btw.
And I am loving Bates Motel.
Elise @ Expeditions of Elise
Ahhh Sherlock is sooo good. I like that I have to really pay attention in order to get everything. It’s so smart! But also very funny. I finished it in January, mostly because I stalled watching the last episode on Netflix because I know it’s not coming back until December 2015.
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff
I had two flour tortillas with cheddar cheese and a pork chop. Stellar. Not a vegetable or fruit in sight. Sigh!
Natalie
I wish my “office” involved leggings, slippers and sitting on the floor. Maybe someday…
I honestly don’t have many shows I watch regularly, besides SportsCenter. I’m always up for watching the old reruns of Gilmore Girls or One Tree Hill, though.
I’m not really a big ice cream person. I don’t know if it’s the texture or what, but I’ve always like froyo much better. But it has to be self-serve, definitely not from a carton. BUT, if I had to choose, I might just be traditional and go with Blue Bell!
Laura
I am really exhausted–it is the last week before Spring Break, plus we just had a bunch of snow in Chicago.. so last night I just went to bed at 7:30 pm instead of working-out. I am not sure if that was good or bad.
I am not really into any shows right now.. except Survivor.
Ice cream makes me really cold so I don’t eat it, but I did recently enjoy the So Delicious ice cream with gf cookie dough. It was pretty good.
Heather @Shoes Run 50
I was feeling pretty exhausted this past weekend, but I ended up cutting my long run short on Sunday. Monday was a scheduled rest day so I am feeling ready to tackle the next week of training.
Dinner last night was homemade pizza topped with avocado. My favorite store bought ice cream is all of them. Ice cream is my favorite food :)
Emily W.
I used to request my gramma lemon bunt cake for my birthday every year from the ages of about 7-18! no the typical kids bday cake but I loved (still do!) lemon cake. Starbucks makes a good lemon pound cake too, delicious! :)
I secretly love pretty little liars and can’t wait for it to be on tonight!
Katie
Ah! Do you need a running partner? I am in town for my sister’s wedding in Springdale and have to do 20+ this weekend – are you getting a big group together??
P.S. I love your blog. P. S.S. I love your state!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
Last night we went to dinner at Flemings to celebrate closing on our new home! I had an amazing steak and of course the chocolate molten lava cake for dessert:)
I finally started watching Parenthood so that’s been my go-to show lately!
Jessica @ Laces and Lattes
I had some difficult intervals this morning and I was so close to giving up. I absolutely love that tweet. We can do this!!
If I were closer, I would love to join you for your 22 miler!
Amanda @ Slimplify Life
I seriously cannot stop watching Parenthood on Netflix. About to start Season 4!
PS. You have the best / most straightest / whitest teeth I’ve ever seen. Please share your beautiful teeth tips!!!
Beks
I made a couple boxes of Valentine’s Pancake mix (one red velvet, the other pink chocolate chip) and bacon for dinner. Brinner is usually where it’s at, but they definitely left something to be desired. I make better homemade pancakes with a faster recipe. *shrugs* live and learn.
My sis and I started a new training plan on Bodybuilding.com last night called Rewired. It was faster than what we normally do, but I’m feeling it today! Can’t wait to see what the next nine weeks brings!
I’m watching The Office right now on Netflix. I never watched it when it was on, because I didn’t have a DVR during college, and worked a lot. I freaking love this show. Almost as much as I loved Parks and Recs (The greatest Mockumentary ever made).
I’m still looking for a favorite ice cream brand. I like making ice cream, it just takes some planning.
Becca
Dinner last night was spaghetti. I can’t seem to get enough carbs lately, and spaghettic with meatballs is the best thing since sliced bread.
I am feeling invigorated from my runs, but, then again, I’m not training for Boston. I’m training for the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta.
Happy trails!
Sam
Unfortunately, I am a sucker for Bravo reality TV shows. Real housewives, southern charm, vanderpump rules, shahs, etc. They are so trashy but I love them.
[email protected] Runs
I’m addicted to all of those too! They are so bad, but so entertaining..
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I will never choose anything other than the most chocolatey dessert available on a dessert menu/dessert table! Except chocolate ice cream – I prefer a vanilla base with lots of chocolately toppings :)
Marissa @ Run Riss Run
Dinner last night was pulled pork burritos (crockpot!)
My fav ice cream is actually froyo, but it’s Umpqua.
Brenda @ Don't Lose the Trail
I don’t know about store bought ice cream (besides Ben & Jerrys, or It’s It ice cream sandwiches in SF), but I do know that I had maybe the best ice cream ever last night – there is a local ice cream place in Boston called JP Licks and they have a thin mint flavor right now that is mint chocolate chip ice cream with WHOLE THIN MINT COOKIES IN IT. I died.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures
I’m feeling downright exhausted. I’m also suffering from a sore throat (the kind that feels swollen) so that’s not helping my “peak training week”. Intervals were pretty brutal this morning at 5am. ugh. But hey, it’s gotta get done.
Love that chocolate bunny!! Good luck on your run. My husband ran with a friend for her 22 miler too. It’s good to have running friends :)
kristin | W [H] A T C H
i am loving ultimate survivor alaska!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties
OOOH that chicken taco salad looks so good!! My favorite trashy show at the moment is vanderpump rules. So good. Oh and catfish on mtv… always a solid choice :)
[email protected] Runs
Dinner last night was chicken/corn/black beans/rice mixed with taco seasoning topped with guac and a sweet potato. Basically I just threw everything in pantry into a pan.
I haven’t been feeling exhausted which tells me I need to train harder. I love that tired feeling because you know you’ve worked hard and you know it will pay off!
Shows – American Crime, Nashville (I’m watching old episodes on Hulu), Scandal
Favorite ice cream – Blue Bell Banana Pudding. It’s heavenly and has actual Nilla Wafer chunks in it!
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama
Ex.ha
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama
Apparently I’m so exhausted I can’t even write out the whole word! See you in less than 4 weeks!
Lindsey @ Simply Lindsey
That ice cream looks amazing!! I don’t think NC carries that brand, at least I haven’t seen it. My favorite ice cream is the Trader Joe’s chocolate. It’s heavenly!
We had salmon, asparagus, and rice for dinner. One of my faves!
I am currently loving Gossip Girl and How I Met Your Mother. Thank you, Netflix for encouraging my binge-watching of TV shows! Haha.
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog
OMG I will be copying that salad immediately! Do you usually buy your guac from Costco too? Or do you make that yourself?
I’m loving the show Last Man on Earth right now. Will Forte is always a hit in my book!
I love classic Blue Bell, can’t go wrong with that!
Kim @ RunningLife&Chocolate
Last night we loaded up the kiddos and went to a place just on the other side of the border in Michigan called Lunker’s. It’s a sports store that has a huge restaurant in it and every Monday night they have their (awesome) wings for 33 cents. We were all stuffed when we left :) We watch a lot of Netflix and our kids have watched every episode of Andy Griffith at least a dozen times and now they are currently hooked on Leave it to Beaver LOL! We always buy the gallon tub of Meijers Neapolitan ice cream because our kids love ice cream and pretty much go through it like nobody’s business! If we run out they hit up grandma next door. Their summer staples…ice cream and freezer pops.
Jilly
Spiralized zucchini noodles last night with pasta sauce (and garlic bread). Freaking delicious.
I am not training for a marathon, so I’m okay on the exhaustion front…
Just finished the latest season of Game of Thrones, and last night I had to stop watching season 2 of The Americans because it was giving me nightmares.
We don’t tend to buy ice cream, but I live in eastern Canada, and our local dairy bar (ice cream shop that is only take-out) is opening in about a week, which is pretty exciting since we still have tons of snow. At least there will be one sign of summer :)
Susan
Oh, yes–lemon cake! LOVE.
I work from home 3x per week so am always in yoga clothes or workout clothes that are too cute to actually sweat in.
Dinner = steak
I don’t train for any races so I not exhausted. Pushed on my swim today but feel invigorated!
The only show I am watching right now is Justified.
Crazy Runner Girl
Last night for dinner I had a big taco salad too! Black beans, salsa, avocado on a bed of veggies. Yum.
Favorite ice cream is blue bell…. Although recently they had to do a huge recall because some flavors were making people really sick… So maybe that will change
Kristen
I’m feeling exhausted in general. I have my first ever big public speaking event tonight and I’m kinda freaking out. My daughter’s been home sick from school with a bad cold for the past 2 days and now my throat is starting to feel scratchy. Egads.
Coincidence- I just started rewatching Sherlock on Netflix! I watched the first season on PBS when it came out but nothing since.
Monica
I had dirty rice for dinner last night. I’m not running right now, but doing a walking training program with a local running store for a 10K and I was starving when I got home- (dirty rice was already made-enough said).
That post from Jen was awesome! Great to hear after your struggle the other day.
We love love love watching BBC America programs. I was stoked to see you watching (the real) Sherlock. I don’t think I know anyone else that watches it! Love that show.
I try not to buy ice cream because I have no self control, but if I do it’s Graeter’s (made locally in Cincinnati). Best. ice cream. ever.
Lesley
I found Chinese food in the frozen section that I can bake in the oven instead of frying on the stove. That makes me feel slightly better, but I wanted orange chicken and found that one. Tonight is leftovers from a crockpot meal I made Sunday. I ate a lot of it on Sunday so after my run today, I’ll probably eat a lot tonight too.
Grace P
I saw this today and am 110% positive you will love reading it:

Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
I love lemon cake! And that ice cream looks BOMB!
Flower
We had tacos last night and I actually created my own seasoning so I was pretty happy with myself.
Lately, I am loving Peaky Blinders and I watch at least an episode a night on Netflix because….CILLIAN MURPHY! Yummy. He’s like a frosty with reeses peanut butter cups!
Emily
Haha! I am trying to recruit the same! I mean, it’s only 9 miles more than a half, right?!?!?! BTW, those blue camo High Times? And all of the High Times in general? I cannot get enough of them. I’ve even managed to find ways of wearing them to teach in and still make it look middle school teacher appropriate!
Pam
I am also exhausted with Boston Marathon training and misery loves company. Thanks for writing that today.
Rachel Runs Music City
Thank you so much for that quote Jen! I’m in the same position (my marathon is a week after Boston) and I’ve been so discouraged because I feel like I can’t get my body to do what it needs to. Great encouragement! I’ve never been more ready for taper!
Dinner last night=chicken nugget salad
Shows I love: DWTS, The Middle, Modern Family. House of Cards
Favorite Ice Cream: Kroger brand Snickerdoodle
Irina @ Miss Irina
I volunteer at a hospital on Monday evenings and seriously feel ill on Tuesdays 80% of the time. I know my immune system is slowly building up, but man these Tuesday mornings with congestion/nausea/pain/etc. are rough! It sounds worse than it is, I swear :)
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust
Tillamook is based out of Oregon, so of course it is one of my faves. I am also a big fan of their cheese. ☺
I would say that my training has definitely started to slow now that I am getting further along in my pregnancy. Recovery takes some time and if I put in a lot of volume, I need a few days to recover. I’m still getting used to the change.
Shows that I currently love: Parenthood, The Voice, and Blacklist
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
My husband and I started watching Empire over the weekend and then got sucked in and watched the whole season! It’s really good and the soundtrack is also amazing.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
Seeing that photo in Costco makes me so sad that the Costcos here in AZ don’t sell Adam’s peanut butter – it’s my favorite!
I’m all about the lemon too. It’s basically tied with chocolate – never thought it was possible, but oh it is. Have you ever had Nothing Bundt Cakes? You gotta try their lemon one with extra frosting (if you’re a frosting gal)…phenomenal.
Yes to Tillamook! Good stuff right there.
tess
When I found out I was allergic to chocolate…I was able very quickly learn to love other flavors. Lemon is FABULOUS.
You’re doing an amazing job training and I think we are all anticipating your Boston run as much as you are. Well…maybe close anyway.
Aimee
Tillamook ice cream is the B-O-M-B.com!!!! You and Brooke should make a trip to the Oregon coast and visit the Tillamook FACTORY!!!! See how all the cheese is made and packaged…then choose from all of their ice cream flavors! Yummmmm!!! :)
Amanda B @ Cupcakes & Miles
Oh thank gosh! I thought I was the only weirdo that sat on the floor with snacks at all times! ;)
We actually just wrapped up Breaking Bad on Netflix and it blew our minds. It was so good!!!
Emma @ Life's A Runner
Grey’s Anatomy, ALWAYS Grey’s Anatomy! I think I am going to finish the entire series right before finals, which is both horrendous and a lifesaver at the same time. I should probably watch every episode of the last season with some Ben & Jerry’s because that is the only brand of store-bought ice cream I even know exists.
Nona @ RunningHigh
We had fajitas and I made the leftovers into a taco salad for my lunch today. My favorite way to cook chicken for tacos is to stick a few breasts into the crockpot with a jar of salsa and let it cook for about 8 hours and then shred it. It’s so easy and so SO good!
Jane
Sherlock is one of my all-time favorite shows! Can’t wait until the next season…when it is released a couple of years from now!
Natalie
Dinner: Homemade chili + broccoli!
Shows: I am so, so behind on shows! I have no idea what is going on in the world :)
Ben and Jerry’s for ice cream
I am feeling so tired from last week’s training…
Happy Tuesday!
Courtney! @ Redefining Athlete
Dinner: Rotisserie Chicken… basically straight out of the plastic tub.
I am pretty exhausted. It MAY have been a mistake to try marathon training on top of training for my bike race in May. Only 3 weeks until Paris though :)
Jane @ 50statecanuck
I’m struggling…was very sick 2 weeks ago and know my body is still recovering, but I’m frustrated!!
I know I am late to the game, but I am just finishing Season 3 of Game of Thrones and I’m not sure I have ever been more obsessed with a show. And I’m not a science fiction/mystical creature show type person…but this. is. amaaaaaaazing!! lol
Laur
I am ADDICTED to Parenthood. Surgery recovery = Netflix binge! Thank you for the recommendation!!!
Danielle
I had the same thing last night except I made a homemade tortilla bowl to put the salad in :)
I have 18 on the schedule for this weekend. Good luck!
[email protected]
I would love to but you are way to speedy for me :). My 22 miler will be in the 10:oo min/mile speed range.
Kayse Hinrichsen
I love Tillamook! When I was little we used to go by the Tillamook cheese factory on our way home from the ocean. We would go for tours of the factory and eat cheese curds, it was amazing!
Kate @ www.socalrunnergal.com
Well in that case I am GLAD you’re exhausted lately. :) You’re right on track.
I recently decided not to run the OC Marathon (which I’m an ambassador for) because something just isn’t right with my body. I am doing other forms of exercise at the moment (barre, yoga, spin) while I figure out what is up. It’s weird to not run almost every day but it’s also been surprisingly kind of nice. Crazy, I know!
Gretchen | Gretchruns
That ice cream looks SO GOOD. I might make a trip to Utah just to try it!
Last night I had my final Blue Apron meal (that I got from your code!) It was turkey chili and it was really good! My least favorite of the 3 meals but still amazing nonetheless.
My training cycle just started last week, so I’m still feeling fresh and energetic! I’m sure I won’t be saying the same in a few weeks.
I’m loving Empire, Scandal, Dancing with the Stars, and American Idol. Can’t wait for the Bachelorette to start up! Kaitlyn is my favorite and Britt should be interesting!
Jacqueline @ Mam On The Run
Burritos last night – kids favourite. I made them a bit too spicy so they complained a little.
We’re watching Better Call Saul at the moment – the prequel to Breaking Bad. Up to that we’d been watching House of Cards with Kevin Spacey. So good.
I don’t eat ice cream cause of my super, super, super sensitive teeth. It makes me want to cry with the pain.
If I lived close by I’d join you for half your 22 miler. Well I could be the water carrier – there is NO way I’d keep up with you lot.
Ash Diamond
I’m LOVING Nashville!!
Julie @ HappinessSavouredHot
Nice illustrations of the runner’s life! I cannot quite picture myself choosing lemon over chocolate, though. :-p
Amy in MN
I just woke up from a post-lunch (taco salad!) nap. I think now I can maybe manage my workout of 10 miles at MP. (I’m hoping for about the same time as you at Boston, so you know the pace.) I will likely go to bed at 7:30 tonite. I love–and need–the ZZZZZZZs.
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse
I love the runner bunny! I had Chinese food last night and it hit the spot! :) I am still trying to catch up on Once Upon A Time right now and love it! I also love Downton Abbey! I’ll have to give Sherlock a try too. I’ve never had Tillamook, but I love Ben and Jerry’s :)
Lisa Rogers
Your fatigue is encouraging to me! I’m 5 weeks out from a race and have really focused on speed. This week I’ve started to struggle- feeling tired, a little sore and lack of motivation. Its so hard to find the line between training at our best and over training. I’m going to rest a little more this week and then hopefully finish strong! Thanks for sharing!
Lisa
Laura
By the way if you LOVE lemon.. these are the number one, best in the world lemon cookies…. I pay $30+ just to get them shipped to Illinois…. (you can order them on Amazon too, but I think where you live you can probably get them in the stores!)

Can we get the recipe for the lemon cake? S’mores bars are a hit at our church.
AmyD
I want to lick the lemon sugar glaze off the plate!!
Melissa
*I made homemade Alfredo sauce with GF fettuccine noodles with a mixed green salad with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries & raspberry vinaigrette.
* Not currently training do to ITBS :(
*I am loving the new show “secrets and lies ” awesome!
* Not a big ice cream fan, frozen yogurt yes (chocolate to be exact ) !
Megan D
I need that lemon cake in my life. We had honey lime chicken enchiladas last night for dinner. With cilantro lime rice, beans and roasted cauliflower. I realize that last one doesn’t really fit in #butveggies
I like Brooklyn nine nine. But I am really missing Bachelor. Kind of going through withdrawals.
My favorite ice cream brand depends on the flavor. Like cookie dough – Kroger. Cookies and cream – meadow gold. Berry sherbet – Dryers. Vanilla bean, chocolate and natural mint – Bryers. If you are wanting the best Tillamook flavor though, I would have to argue that this is it:
http://www.tillamook.com/products/ice-cream/caramel-toffee-crunch.html
with the smores coming in a close second.
Jesica @rUnladylike
Love all your pictures! The chocolate running bunny cracks me up. Easter gifts for my running friends … solved! I also love what the Hanson’s crew said about training and being tired at this point in the cycle. That’s a really great reminder. I remember 3-4 weeks out from Chicago I was so exhausted I was wondering if I was actually going to be successful in the race … and then poof, it payed off. Excited for you and good luck with your 22-miler. xoxo
Doni @ My adventures in living
Totally into Elementary, Chopped, and The Voice. But I’m so far behind. I have 34 episodes of Chopped on my DVR. Luckily, with 23 seasons, it’s one of those shows you can just jump into any episode at any time.
My favorite store bought ice cream brand is a local called Three Twins. SO yummy.
Glad you found a buddy to run your 22-miler with. That will be key!
Cheri @ Overactive Blogger
I’m feeling exhausted in GENERAL. I have been running a ton, teaching a ton, and working nonstop to fix a silly mistake that was made at work. I could sleep for two days!
Ashlee
Homemade gyoza and veggies! Soooooo good.
Tillamook is for sure the best, and fireside smore’s is my fave right now. Maybe I’ll run to the store right this second…
Elle @ The Clean Project
I’m currently re-re-watching Unbreakable on Netflix. It is so funny!
[email protected] Wild in Alaska
I had that Fireside Smores ice cream this weekend too, and it was AMAZING.
I also had the new Ben & Jerry’s flavor with the cookie butter cookies in it.
It was a great week.
Holly
Brooke definitely is a girl after my own heart! My daughter and I consume nut butter at an alarming rate!!
Dinner was chicken sausage, roasted peppers, dippy eggs, avocado! So delicious and simple!
No training for me right now, I am still trying to recover from surgery from an umbilical hernia. I can not wait to hit the pavement again. You are such an inspiration, Janae!
I have never tried Tillamook but I will have to, soon! My daughter and I love Ben and Jerry’s!!
Have a great night!
Kay
I’ve never had Tillamook but I want to! I think it may not be available around here (Maryland)…?
