THE TRUTH OF RUNNING and my ultrasound;)

Nothing like wearing donuts on your head for your workout.

I feel kind of bad because I am sure I made anyone at the gym that saw my headband crave donuts and want to quit their workout and drive straight to the local donut shop to get the best carbs in the world.

Pool opens at 6 and we were in the pool just seconds later.

We attempted a speed workout today.  15 minute warm-up and then 30 x 30 seconds fast/hard effort (our faces were both quite red from working so hard during this portion) with 30 second recoveries in between.  15 minutes normal pace.  1 hour total.  And now I want a donut (or 5).

I am grateful for the large clock on the wall to keep track of the intervals for us.

Then it was home to do 8 minute abs and some planks…

2 minute plank on elbows, 1 minute side planks on each side, 1 minute plank on elbows for a total of 5 minutes.

And the above song is what I listen to on repeat for any and all workouts lately… I am obsessed.   PS I used to go to a trillion concerts back in my prime and OneRepublic was one of my favorites.

I had an ultrasound today.  A little less exciting than when I would get them when I was pregnant with Brooke and I could hear her heartbeat.

Just trying to figure out what the heck is going on with my leg.  That is the annoying part about injuries—>  when you don’t know exactly what it is and how to treat it.  The control freak inside of me is coming out once again.

I JUST WANT ANSWERS!! (FYI I am extremely dramatic today and not just about my leg).

The more toppings that a salad has the better.  Yes, I always bring home my Cafe Rio dressing so that I get to have it on my salads at home.

Two fun facts about Brookers (because let’s be honest, you come to this blog to see her..):

1.  Brooke had her first underdog ever and she giggled for 2.5 minutes straight afterwards.

IMG 1628

2.  I bought her a stroller for her beloved doll but she is quite the reckless driver with that thing and that baby doll has some serious whiplash now.

THE TRUTH OF RUNNING.  This clip is from my nephew’s favorite show in the world.

Did the ultrasound show what was wrong with your leg? Sending lots of good wishes it gets well soon!!

I’d say today is a 6.5 – 7…nothing too exciting went on, but an overall good day :)

OH, and I went pool running for the first time yesterday!! Your posts about it inspire me to keep at it!

I hate not knowing exactly what an injury is, I had three different diagnoses on calf pain last year :( I bring home all my Cafe Rio dressing too, we have it stored for all of our own salad adventures.

My weds is an 8 so far! Hard run and tasty food but also more research than is ideal ;)

Love the video!!

Wednesday so far is about a 5. Nothing bad has happened, but like you I have a little injury and I’m trying to figure out what exactly it is. I went pool running yesterday and will do it again today, and I have a doctor appointment for Friday. Fingers crossed it’s nothing major so I can get on with marathon training (luckily I’m at the beginning so it’s not as big of a deal for me). I hope you get this thing figured out for yourself asap so you can kick butt at your upcoming marathon!

Absolutely hilarious video. I had to share it!!! And Brooke is definitely a great reason to visit your blog. I love her headbands!

I am at a 7 for today. It’s a rest day, and I am halfway done with my finals (just two more to go!).
Hope you find out some answers about your leg… it’s not fun to be in an indefinite lull from running.

Omg that video is hysterical!! Thanks for sharing!!

My day is about a 6. It’s my rest day and it’s just blah, middle of the week, nothing exciting. Lol

Hope your leg is on the way to healing, did the ultrasound give you any indications?

That video is funny! Love the headband. What’s an underdog???

Your salad looks delicious! Good idea to bring home your Cafe Rio dressing. I always have leftover. Speaking of Cafe Rio, I’m so excited. I thought I was going to go through Cafe Rio withdrawals since moving to AZ, but I FOUND one just a few miles away from us! It made my year.

I would rate today as a 7 so far. The day started with a great spin class, and it’s been a pretty productive day around here, but man, I’m TIRED.

10+.
Someone else cleaned my house today.
My kids are lovely, kind, intelligent, compassionate beings.
My hip is even better today than it was yesterday which was better than the day before.
I had chocolate for breakfast.
I’m really into the book I’m reading and got to read a little today.
I could go on but won’t ;-)

I would say my day has been an 8 so far. I get to see my oldest get promoted into 6th grade tonight….I can’t believe it! He was just a baby!

What’s an underdog?

I hope you get your answers!

My Wednesday so far has been good, work is calm and I had a good gym session. Thinking about guac for/with dinner.

Today has been a 7. Baby is happy and he’s taking a good nap, and I’m working through real estate school and preparing my young women’s lesson for mutual tonight. Busy but in a good way. I recently started getting my daily run done early in the morning, though, which equals a huge carb craving around 3 p.m. for me… Insert pretzel overload. Oh well- there are worse things!

Where did you get that amazing headband?! I need one!

10. I got into nursing school and got a summer job! YAY.

Not having answers is the worst. That is how it was with my hamstring. Every dr, chiropractor, PT I went to gave me a different hypothesis, but still no one knew for sure what was wrong. So frustrating. I hope you get answers soon. And at least you have pool running with Candice to help you get through.

Have you seen Studio C’s ‘captain literally’ skits? Hilarious. Or ‘Pregnant so we’ve got the power’ (which is especially funny to me right now….Evan may walk around singing the song.) But this one takes the cake. I am not sure if you have seen it. If not, you definitely need to:

My day has been a 9 so far. Getting ready to go on a nice long walk/run

Did the ultrasound show what was wrong with your leg? I had the WORST time getting my recent foot injury diagnosed. First x-rays (showed nothing, injury was thought to be tendinitis), then two weeks seeing a PT to treat that (no improvement), then an MRI (showed a bone bruise AND tendinitis), then lots of time off (little improvement), then a foot adjustment at the chiropractor, which FINALLY took care of the source of the problem.

All that to say, I know how frustrating injuries can be, *especially* when you don’t know what’s wrong and how to treat it! Hang in there, girl!

My Wednesday was a 7, got my hair done for the first time in about a year, took my daughter to her first dentist appt and she was super grown up about the whole thing (yeah, no crazy tears!).
I baked a strawberry pie from the strawberries in our garden and actually cooked some dinner and my daughter voluntarily went to bed at 6pm…I should probably set my daily goals a bit higher, but now I get to go run earlier :)

P.S. I totally didn’t know “underdog” was a real thing. My husband and daughter were telling me about this thing they did, but I thought they’d made the name up!

Reply

I can’t give today a number. But it’s pretty great. Trying to take a nap for my night shift tonight. Not happening.

Reply

I ran at my regular pace for 1 mile today. That’s progress!

I hope they can figure out something that will help you.

Reply

I hope they diagnose your leg asap

The doughnut headband is awesome.

My day is probably about a 7. The boyfriend is making steak salads with homemade dressing for dinner, which is awesome. Less awesome is the fact that my lesson plans are due on Friday and I’m less than half done. Oops! Better get to work!

Reply

I would say my Wednesday has been a 9. I am in Florida so it would be a 10 except that my allergies are out of control:(

Reply

My Wednesday has been 11 hours of work and no run! I hate rest days! So it’s a low number.

Reply

What the heck is an underdog?!

Reply

Your friend photobombing that first picture is great! And yes I want donuts now.

Wednesday is all good! I spent lots of time in the kitchen making nutella banana bread and watermelon juice!

Sending good vibes your way hoping your leg gets better asap!

Reply

Heard that One Republic song this morning and love it!

I give today a 3. I got some pretty upsetting news today… but I am living with it and moving on. Wednesday could be better, but tomorrow is another day :)

Oh Janae! :) I just read both of your posts for today, and I know this is very random but I just wanted to tell you that I think you are the cutest, funniest person ever!!! :) Thanks for brightening my day just by being the adorable person you are! :)

Reply

I bet it is so hard wanting answers and not getting them. I hope that you all can figure something out VERY soon!

Reply

I always bring my dressing home, too. One time I asked if they sold it in bulk and they sold me a pound of it for $4. TOTALLLY WORTH IT!

Reply

GENIUS IDEA!! You could probably sell that door to door haha!

Reply

After my millions of squats I conquered at boot camp, I would rate my day an 8 and my legs would rate my day -0874932686. They feel like jello! I hope that leg gets on track with your schedule, you seriously have me considering pool running though!

Reply

I wonder what the ultrasound results will show? Hopefully you get them back soon!! :)

Reply

Oh my goodness I am so sorry you still don’t have a diagnosis for your leg!
Being injured and despite every doctor you see, you still don’t have a diagnosis aka a way to treat it an get better is the WORST!
My stress fracture went improperly diagnosed for 3 months until someone finally ordered an MRI. It was hard to prolong an injury that should have been 3 months into 8.

Best wishes!

Well my Wednesday was like a 3. Terrible day at work. But the mr softee ice cream truck was outside on the corner by my office and I got a chocolate dipped vanilla cone with peanuts and all of a sudden my day skyrocketed to a 9. I am injured and not running for at least three weeks.

Gosh darnit I just wish you knew what was wrong with your leg :(

Reply

Wednedsay – 6/10. I just spent way too much time in the car but the weather is gorgeous and I passed over the mountains, so I can’t complain! (I’m in Central OR, by the way)

I hope you get answers soon! And that salad looks delicious. That’s some powerfood right there. Also, 5 minute plank = WOW.

Reply

So what is your injury? In your own words, even if you’re not sure.

My Wednesday is going well! My days are always better when I run in the morning :) And my mom is in town! I’ll give it a 7.

Reply

this is practice for when she grows up;)

and I do come to see Brooke and you!

Reply

Hope your leg gets better!

I love that picture of Brooke pushing her doll around! lol

That video cracked me up almost as much as your donut headband.

5 miles running and 7.5 mile walk, I’d say my Wednesday was pretty awesome ;)

Whats an underdog? Is that a typo???

Sweet headband!!

Today has been great–just want baby’s cough to go away :(

Ok this might be too private to share so sorry in advance if that’s the case… but do you get health insurance through your blog? I just reached the age where I’m too old to be on my parents’ insurance and I don’t have a full time job, so I’m uninsured and can’t go to the doctor for the chronic foot pain I’m having from running :( I don’t know what to do since the pain only seems to be getting worse! Is there some secret runners’ insurance club I can join? I’m only half kidding! :)

Reply

With the new Affordable Care Act (aka “Obamacare”), now you can get insurance coverage! Probably with a subsidy, too, if you’re not making loads of money. No one should have to suffer through injury or illness feeling like they can’t afford to go to the doctor. :( Look into it!

Janae, I hope your leg gets better soon!! Maybe the results of the ultrasound will help the doctors figure out what is going on?

Reply

So sorry you’re not getting answers with your injury. SO FRUSTRATING! You’ve totally got me sold on the pool running thing though. Thanks for sharing the Studio C video. I needed a good laugh tonight. :)

Reply

Your headband is so cute! I never could get into pool running when I was injured. I have been swimming more even now that I’m recovered. High of my day was a pro triathlete in my spin class approached me today and wants to train me. I am stoked! Low is I really need to find a new job that doesn’t require me to work 60-80 hrs a week.

Reply

Loving the drama. Also, I had Cafe Rio for the FIRST TIME EVER, Janae!!! I had high expectations from all your pics/reviews/boasting and you were right. Point HRG.

Reply

Video is hysterical!!! Did they know what was wrong with your leg?

Reply

Hope you get answers soon about your leg. Did they give you any info about it or a timeline or anything? So frustrating!

10 so far- my mom is about to bring her adorable little boy (she nannies!) over to play with me. The best study break!

Funny video!

Do you call them “underdogs”? We call them “under-ducks”, as in you duck under the swing. Maybe it’s a USA vs Canada thing? ;-)

Reply

It is very frustrating not knowing what an injury is. I had the wrong diagnosis on my ankle in 2009 and it probably cost me way more time recovering than if they would have figured out right away it was a tear and not a sprain.

I am just reading this on Thursday so have you found out anything yet? I certainly hope so.

Funny how you want to be the first ones in the pool. I swim 2 x per week and it opens at 5:30 am. I am literally in the water at 5:32 am. I like to be the first one in because the water is so calm and pretty! LOL. It’s the little things that make us happy, right?

Hang in there with this quad issue. They will figure it out!!

Reply

Did they have any answers about your leg after getting the ultrasound?

My Wednesday was pretty good. I managed to survive my first day of watching a newborn by myself while Mike was at work and we both survived!

Reply

I love the doughnut headband but yes seeing it would be torture! Good luck with your leg!

“used to go to a trillion concerts back in my prime” I’m still laughing at that statement

hahaha! I HAVE NO SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Funny vid ;)

Oh my gosh I’m freaking crying from laughing so hard at that video! Sharing it on FB now. LOL I about died at, “we took away her running shoes…then we heard about this new thing called ‘barefoot running’…is this some kind of sick joke?” omg. This made my morning. :)
