36 X 200 meters at the track. I can’t feel my legs anymore.

Josse (the girl I run with all of the time and I absolutely love her to death) said she wanted to do a track workout for her 36th birthday.  I complained in my head but told her yes because that just shows her how much I love her.

We decided we would do 4 x 400, 1600, 4x 400.

When we started the warm-up Rachelle had the brilliant idea to do 36 (to celebrate her turning 36) x 200 (fast!) with 200 m (1/2 of a lap) recoveries.

I almost blacked out from the idea 36 x 200s but as you know, runner’s peer pressure gets me every time and I am glad I did it because doing hard things can be fun (after you do them).

The first 18 we did in the 6ish minute mile pace

The last 18 we switched directions on the track and hit the 5ish pace…. a few of them at the 5:15s.

The best part was that for the last 6 or so we dedicated each interval to someone/or something in our lives and talked about them on the recoveries.   It got really emotional and we all cried a little at one point but dedicating each one made us cruise.  Try it, it will make you run real fast.  It was incredible.

9 miles on the track with 1.2 miles of warm-up/cool-down on the roads.

I don’t know how I used to run without them.

Prepare yourself for two selfies:

I got my hair did and remember how I was going to do something drastic?

IMG 6315

Not a creepy picture at all.

I chickened out like usual and just went for a trim and some highlights.  The head massage you get when they shampoo your hair is the best thing in the world.

IMG 6319

A birthday run was just not enough.

IMG 6328

Thai peanut pizza for the win.

IMG 6327

And once again, birthdays just need some chocolate so I brought some cupcakes.

ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR THURSDAY and tell me something about YOUR DAY!!!

Love, love, love the hair!

I am one of those weird ones that loves track/speed workouts because they change things up. I get bored easy. lol Growing up, I was a sprinter, so it feels more natural to me to sprint short distances. I am totally counting the days until the indoor track opens so I can do some more speed workouts! And I love how exhausted, yet great, I feel afterwards!

Still working in building up mileage, but my half marathon training begins on Sunday/Monday so that will help.

Today…I got my truck stuck in my driveway for 2 hours. Can you say snowstorm?? Yikes… Of course, I took pictures and wrote about it. lol

Reply

I want to fall over dead just reading about 36×200! Amazing work. No wonder you are so fast–you certainly aren’t intimidated by a good hard workout!

Reply

OMG you are so fast! Just thinking about that run makes my head spin!
I always want to do something bold with my hair and always chicken out until last year I went for an ombré look and I loved it. I’ve since dyed it darker but it always creeps back :) and I don’t mind it!
Ps your posts always make me hungry. You have such good eats!

Reply

Oh dang I wish I had your day! I had to hit the gym bright and early for work. Today was chest/shoulders. Then I worked all day. Now we’re having a snow storm so I’m curling up with some wine. :)

Reply

I was suppose to run this morning (but I didn’t) then when I got home from work (but I’m not) snow + ice + dark = stay inside! I love your hair-it looks great! And great work-out-I’m a wimp!

Reply

Today I ran through a complete blizzard! It’s been storming for days and I only did 3 miles before chickening out and coming home to warm up – not quite up to your double-digits in a blizzard :) It’s been challenging to run outside all week so tomorrow I’m just going to take a break and do some hot yoga instead. Currently hibernating under a pile of blankets with some chocolate.

P.S. Your hair is gorgeous! Love the highlights.

Great day! I run in honor of 8 military members and anytime I hit a bad hill or wall in a race I just say their names over and over and up the hill I go!

Love the highlights…..I was thinking about getting mine done as well. I have big news too but I will zip you an email about it :)

Glad you had a great day!

Reply

Sheesh 36×200…. I don’t think we ever did that as a track workout when I was on a college track team! EEK! Nice work ladies! Love the highlights by the way, nice subtle change :)

Reply

Your hair looks gorgeous!!! Today is my first day back at work after a two week break :( It’s really cold and snowy so sticking to the treadmill again today.

Reply

That sounds insane….I can’t feel my legs for a different reason, because I went running here in NYC and it is COLD. Also my heavy tights are in the wash so I had to use light ones! Brrrrr

Love your hair!

That workout sounds insane! I need to incorporate some track workouts into my routine badly.

Didn’t do too much today. Cleaned the house. Made a little medal holder and shelf for my race medals I found on Pinterest. And, hung out with my kids. Got a package of running clothes too so that made my day awesome!

Ps- your hair looks amazing!

Reply

I spent 9 1/2 hours at work with 9 two year olds and now we’re supposed to have a big snowstorm. Time to break out the hot chocolate and Food Network!

You are the sweetest. I really need to see you soon! The sweater is extremely warm and I got it at Nordstrom Rack.. the brand is Cameo & Myth. LOVE YOU!

Reply

Your hair looks awesome :) Something fun about my day- I went on my first bikeride of 2014. That’s not very exciting. Today has been a big chore day for me, so there hasn’t been anything that really stands out.

Reply

Your hair looks amazing plus you look beautiful (like always!)

Reply

You have such pretty hair – the highlights look great!

Reply

HOLY ISH track work out. I did speed work today too (nothing close to 36 sprints haha) and it was in the rain and I felt pretty badass. I am still on vacation right now so I also deep cleaned and reorganized my kitchen, go big or go home right?

Love your hair! I get mine cut once a year because I am lazy and cheap : ) I am due in May! wooo

Reply

I’m trying not to catch a cold and thought about laying around all day, but instead did a sweaty workout in the garage and then took a sea salt detox bath while sipping iced water…let’s hope I kicked the cold outta me…I feel great! :D And holy smokes, way to go on the track workout…wow!

Reply

Wow–you just inspire me. I was just happy to get an easy 5 miles in today! You guys rock. Keep it up, Janae!

Reply

36×200 is insane!!!! nice work!

Reply

Looking like a million bucks (as usual)

Off to hot yoga.

Reply

Love the hair :). Good choice!! I did an 11k run before I started to get a bad twinge in my ankle…the snow makes for a slippery surface and I think my stabilizers get too much of a work out haha and marathon training starts in two weeks so I played it safe and came home and iced and stretched. :).

Reply

I got in a short treadmill run earlier (only 2 miles still coming back after a stress fracture) and then went to the gym this evening to do a 80 minute spin session. It was alright nothing exciting, and now we are getting blasted with a snow storm!

Reply

I love how you dedicated your run. It’s so sweet!

Reply

Was Joss the one that gave you the massage? I can’t remember the details but werent you going to blog more about it. I remember being interested in whatever you said you were going to blog about. Sorry so cryptic, I can’t remember much more :)

Reply

Nevermind, I looked it up! You were going to talk about scraping. I would for you to do a post on it since I’m prone to soreness / injury

Reply

YES YES YES!! You are so right!! I will have her do a write up asap! Thank you so much for reminding me because it helped so much!

Reply

Yeah, I was interested in that, too! I did a little scraping on my own for some scar tissue in my knee, and it helped a lot. I’m wondering if it would help my plantar fasciitis, too, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Reply

So at first I was empathic for the 36 x 200’s, but then as I read on they seemed perfect for her 36th birthday (but not MINE)! I love the dedicating the splits, that’s awesome!

Reply

Good job on the workout! I need to find a track to start doing track workouts…love your hair!

Reply

Love the hair.. looks so good. You’re absolutely beautiful xoxoxoxox

Reply

It’s -33 here right now and only supposed to get colder, so I’m doing my 6 miles on the treadmill tonight. I did my first track workout ever yesterday and can’t even fathom doing 36 x200. Holy cow!

Reply

Love the highlights and glad you didn’t do anything drastic, I think you have the most beautiful hair!! I’m so happy you get to run with your friends, it makes me miss all of mine very dearly but that’s what happens when you live on a Military instillation where people leave every 6mo and you stay.

Today I worked on legs/back and biceps and did a new weight PR for legs I pressed 140lbs.

Reply

1. Awesome workout
2. Gorgeous hair :)
Happy New Year!

Today I ordered a grande soy chai latte at Starbucks and they gave me

Tonight I am going to find some pizza because your picture made me want some.

I ran a little over 6 miles this morning. It was my first run of 2014 and I loved it!

I have that same sweater! I wore it on Christmas day.

highlights look great! It’s like adding a lil’ sunshine to keep you bright and sunny all winter =)
All the school tracks by where I live are fenced in they don’t allow us to use them. I’m trying to find a flat road that I can map out exactly 200m or 400m…In the meantime I just don’t do speedwork =)

I found my missing favorite hat today. it was a good day!

Reply

Wow, that is a crazy workout!!!

Reply

Wow, that is a crazy workout…maybe one day far far in the future I will try that.

One thing about my day today: It snowed about 4-5 inches here…. it took me over an hour to gethome from a usual 20 minute drive. The snow drifting back on the raod was awful. Now I have to find motivation to run on a treadmill since it’s negative windchill tonight.

Reply

I snowshoed on the trails, in the dark-first time trying snowshoeing at night! Loved it. Headlamps all the way!!

Reply

I miss Brooke. When will we see some fresh pictures of her on the blog? That is is code for… when will she be home? :)

Reply

Hi Janae- I know you take a usual rest day per week, but I was wondering if you ever take extended breaks (like 1-2 weeks) off from all exercise? I”m curious because I’m trying to decide if I need more time off etc.. I’m super injury prone and am trying to make this year injury free.

Thanks

We had a snowstorm today so I stayed home with my daughter. We played Yahtzee which wound up being a great way to sneak a little math into our day.

Your hair looks gorgeous! During my divorce, the first time I got my hair shampooed, I almost cried because it felt so good. You’re doing awesome!

Holyyyy 36 200’s!! CRAZY! I actually lol’ed at the picture of you at the salon haha! And your sweater is adorable!!!

Tonight my grandma made lasagna. I have a feeling it might compare to your mom’s!

You seriously have the best hair! I love the head massage too! Did a very short 2 mile run followed by a leg day workout. Spent the rest of the day back in my pj’s and watched movies and built forts with the kids. It was the best!

Reply

How you get to be super speedy AND gorgeous too? No fair!
I actually had a terrible day. I lost my job. The lady I nanny for decided to cut way back on her hours and has a family friend moving nearby that can babysit for free. It was completely out of the blue and not only do I not know how I will make ends meet BUT I am really going to miss the kids.
On the bright side it is snowing and looks beautiful!

I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve wanted to do something drastic to my hair and then chickened out as soon as I sat down in the chair. Either way, you’re looking gorgeous, lady! Happy Thursday!

Reply

I bought two books on marathon training. I’m training for my first (in June). You’re such a huge inspiration and I look forward to reading your posts everyday. Thank you! And your haire looks gorgeous!

Pretty girl! Your highlights are awesome!! Do you mind if I ask what color you told the stylist you wanted? I have a similar hair color to you and have been wanting highlights for forever, but I’ve never gone through with it.
Something about my day today…hmm…today was supposed to be my first day back at work since before Christmas, but because of the snow storm here in the east, the school district I teach in cancelled today and tomorrow so yay extended break!!
Have a fantastic night Janae! :)

Reply

Um…. Dang. That sounds like a crazy and freakishly fast workout. Good job!

Oof, 36x200s! I’d die. Although those 200s workouts can actually be a lot of fun.

Omg….and here I was all woo: 2×400, 2×800 and 2×400 with my track workout – 36 200 is crazy pants :-D

Love the hair! You are a very pretty lady!

Oh my GAAAWD…. I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!! There was this one time, (at band camp? ;)) that I went platinum blonde. To make the story short: it was NOT a good look for this girl….BUT……I adore your blonde highlights…beautiful, per usual! :)

Holy 200 repeats! It sounds insanely tough but a fun challenge as well! And, the hair looks fantastic!

Reply

LOVE the idea of 36 for turning 36! And even better yet dedicated each interval to someone. I do all of my track workouts on my own so I do not have nearly as much as it sounds like you do! I wish I had someone to do them with but there are not that many competitive runners in my town. I had 20 x 400’s this past training cycle and thought I was going to die! Maybe dedicating each interval to someone would make a workout like that go by faster… :-)

Reply

What an amazing workout, I’m exhausted with the thought of 36!
Your hair looks fantastic, I always get nervous doing something new at the hairdresser but you nailed it.

Today I had a rest day of running as i”ve run everyday since Christmas Eve. But i am in Australia and it’s sunny and warm at the moment so no excuses for any sleep-ins.

After a few half marathons last year I’m aiming for my first marathon this year. So excited, but won’t be going near your incredible times :-)

I did a spin class with my mom and ate a lot of food. It was awesome.

Ow ow!! You’re a babe!! Love your hair Janae! I’m getting my hair cut on Saturday and I’m tempted to do something with color. Hmmm

Reply

Um ouch. Your workout. But you are so awesome! Good for you.
Your hair looks so healthy and pretty.
Im so like that with my hair. I say I want to do something drastic and I usually chicken out. Except one year I took my highlighted hair to a deep red color. I loved it when I had it done then I woke up the next day and hated it, then woke up the next day and loved it again. At least I can say I did something drastic besides all the times ive chopped it off.

Reply

Another run on the treadmill for me today because we’re in the midst of a blizzard! I cannot WAIT for warmer weather so I can get back outside again! P.S. Pizza and chocolate cupcakes = pure heaven

Reply

It was my first day back at work and they haven’t turned the heating on yet apparently to save money!! Wearing my thermals in to work today plus drinking lots of hot chocolate! I must get my hair cut soon, it’s far too long and scraggly!

I just love you! Can’t even imagine a workout like that. Crazy lady. And…… love the hair! :) (PS- I had to calibrate the treadmill. Oopsies.)

Your hair looks great! I went running in the snow/ice/wind today and thought about how you have to deal with that weather all the time! I don’t know how you can still run so fast in those conditions, I ran like a minute and a half slower than usual today.

I HATE getting my haircut. The only reason I go is for the free head massage when they shampoo you. I swear, without that, I’d have hair down to my ankles.
