9 thoughts from my run that I just had to share with you.

I have so many random things that I was thinking about during my run that I literally opened up my laptop the second I got home to write them down so I could remember to discuss them with you.

1.  Wear sunscreen.  I usually run before the sun is out but today I went later since my mom is here and I have totally gotten out of the habit of putting it on for my runs.  Basically I am writing this down as a reminder for me and just in case you need a little reminder too.  I use this kind normally not for any specific reason besides that it was free from my parent’s cabinet.  I have heard that you should use a tablespoon on your face and two tablespoons on your body when you apply it!

2.  MY NOSE ALWAYS RUNS when I run.  Weird.  I thought it just happened when it was cold but it happens still when it is warm.  Does that happen to anyone else?

3. This shirt.  I have searched for months for it because it is on my top 3 favorite running shirts list.  I was getting the sheets out last night for my mom’s bed and it was folded up in one of the sheets.  It felt like I had finally been reunited with an old friend again.  Expect to see it often on the blog.   I don’t know what I was looking at in the below picture.

4.  I am waiting for my new pair of PureFlow 2s to come in the mail so until then I am using other shoes in my closet so today I used the Wave Riders.  I used to always wear them and they are a great shoe but they felt 5928 times heavier than my beloved PureFlows…. maybe it was like a weight training session for my legs this morning by wearing these.  I do have to admit that the color scheme is the cutest.  They were extra cushiony too which felt good.

5.  I feel like I repeat myself over and over again about the importance of easy running but I just can’t stop myself.  I think that the majority of my overuse injuries weren’t because of high mileage but because I was doing all of my running fast and never taking easy days (along with struggling with the female athlete triad).  I learned all of this the hard way and so I feel like if I don’t tell you about my experience over and over again then I am going to get sued if someone gets hurt from not including lots of easy running into their training.

6.  The key to enforcing easy running is to listen to slow music on your easy runs.  This is a win win for me because the run is easy and I get to listen to my secret favorite singers known as Celine Dion, the Dixie Chicks, Sarah Mclachlan and Jewel.  I can blame my love for this type of music on my sister because she used to listen to it in high school and my life has revolved around trying to be just like her.

7.  I don’t ever want my mom to leave:)  I got home from my run and Brooke and my mom were sitting on the couch cuddling.  I have mentioned this before but Brooke doesn’t cuddle.  She cuddled my mom for at least a half an hour.  More proof that my mom is the greatest.

8.  Let’s be honest…most of my thoughts during my runs revolve around this little blue eyed girl.

DSC 4734

9.  Probably the most important thing I was thinking about (actually stressing about) is the fact that I only have until Friday to take my mom to the best restaurants in the area.  That isn’t very many meals that I have to wine (okay, we don’t drink) and dine her to convince her to move here.

—————————————————–

Tell me some of the thoughts you had during your last run?

Do you wear sunscreen when you run?  A hat?

How many different brands/types of running shoes to you rotate through?  What is YOUR shoe lately (the one that you can’t live without)?

I thought I was the only one that had that runny nose problem. I literally have to carry a viva paper towel so I can blow my nose. I’m not so good with snot rockets. What do you use when your nose runs.

Reply

Aw I bet grandma is loving her time with Brooke too!!! And those blue eyes…sheesh! She is the cutest!!

Reply

I literally told joe the other day I need a tape recorder for when I run so I can think out loud and record it all. Good stuff! I am with ya on the brooks pure flows!

Reply

I almost always wear sunscreen when I run, at least on my face. Even wearing it, though, I have a perpetual weird runners tan from my tank tops and shorts.

I really only run in Brooks Adrenalines. I tried a bunch of different pairs last year and ended up injuring myself, so I’m sticking with Brooks.

My last run was ROUGH. So, for most of it, I was just thinking about how much I wanted to be done.

Where are you going to taker her?

I wear sunscreen every single day. I have fair skin, so if I don’t I burn amazingly fast.

When I was in Nicea couple years ago I spent some time on the beach. I remember seeing one guy who had leather for skin – it was so dark and wrinkly – every time I think about not putting on sunscreen he pops into my head. I never want to look like him.

Reply

I always struggle on slow runs too.

I haven’t tried the PureFlow’s yet, but I’ve tried the PureCadences2 and the PureConnects2 and I love them! Brooks is seriously the best. I love them mucho. I’ve been digging the ghost 6’s and the glycerin 11’s lately and the connects for racing. I need to get me some flows.

I am the worst at putting on sunscreen. Thankfully here in WA we don’t get a whole lot of it. That may be the only reason I’m thankful we don’t get a lot of sun.

Reply

Where in WA do you live? Here in the Seattle area we’ve been getting BUCKETS of sun! It’s been a nice change of pace :)

Reply

I live in the Olympia area. You’re right – we’ve been getting loads of sunshine lately. We sure had to wait long enough for it but summer is finally here! Hooray!

Reply

I love hearing about people in my area! I am in Puyallup and the weather is gorgeous!

It’s so great when moms come to visit….no matter how old we are!

My nose always runs when I run.

Reply

Glad I’m not the only one who has the runny nose effect while running!

Reply

The Dixie Chicks are my all time favorites!! Love them!! I always think about what I need to do when I run and I use the notes app in my phone to type everything down so I don’t forget. ;)

Reply

My nose runs too while I run. A long time ago, my grandmother gave a me a really pretty hankie. One time I was going through my things and immediately when I saw that hankie, I knew what it was to be used for. Now I gently stuff it in my sports bra while I’m running and take it out as need be. It also serves as a reminder that my grandmother is ALWAYS with me. Just thought I’d share!

Reply

Hey! I recently found some brand new hankies my Grandmother gave me. Now I know what I saved them for all these years… To be a classy runner, with a runny nose! Thanks for the idea!

Reply

I ran for 80 minutes today, and throughout my run I was wishing I had applied BodyGlide under my arms. My running tank rubbed me the wrong way today. Boo!

Reply

On cold mornings, I tuck an old burp cloth into the waistband of my running pants and use it to wipe my nose. I used to use Kleenex when I ran, but it would disintegrate when I used it over and over. The burp cloth is also good for wiping the sweat from my forehead.

I am guessing you have some AMAZING food options being in Northern CA! So jealous…that is my favorite part of this country!

I am reading Born to Run right now, and I am intrigued by the barefoot running craze. I have always been a stickler for replacing my shoes every 400-500 miles (I wore Asics 2100 series for years, just switched to Brooks Adrenalines). I am relatively new to your blog and so you may already have a post about this, but do you have an opinion on barefoot running? Have you ever worn the 5 finger shoes or the Xero shoes?

Reply

whew my last run was this morning and i finally made it 3 miles with 89% humidity at 7:15am this morning in houston. i was thinking “i am probably going to shrivel up and die and other people probably think i jumped in a pool before running,” (actually not a bad idea).

i need to remember to put sunscreen on and let it soak in because i literally sweat it off within 7 seconds of walking outside. i miss portland’s rain.

have so much fun with you mom!!

Reply

I have a running playlist of all slow songs titled “sentimental run” it is probably one of my most used playlists of all time. The 4 artists you mentioned are all on there.

Reply

Great idea about the slow music, I need to do that. My nose always runs when I run too! Have you tried a Handana? Your mom and Brooke look so sweet together!!

Reply

sunscreen is an absolute must for me, I’m really fair-skinned so I burn pretty easily.

Reply

New reader. Love your blog! I wear a white visor during my warm-weather runs to keep the sun off my face but let heat escape from my head! My nose also runs during warm-weather runs! This is gross, but I designate a t-shirt sleeve to sweat and the other one to snot so that I’m not rubbing snot on my face, haha!

Reply

Isn’t a tablespoon a crazy amount for one face?! I swear, when I put on the recommended amt I always end up looking like a mime.

I love how close you are to your mom! I hope my girls feel similarly when they are grown :)

Reply

I almost always wear sunscreen. My dad had melanoma so I need to pay extra attention to this. I currently wear Brooks Ghosts that I really like but I have gone for two runs in the Wave Riders on group runs with the running store and I am in love. I am trying to work them into the budget now. I need them in my life.

Reply

I have been trying to slow some of my runs down too, especially since I added speed! I don’t wear sunscreen on my runs usually (bad example alert)!!!!!
Usually when I run, I think of something I”have” to remember and then I forget :)
“My shoe” right now is the Mizuno Riders and Asics gel noosa tri. I have been rotating them. It is funny b/c compared to my old shoes the Rider is light :)
Can’t your mom just move by you?

Reply

When I have my long runs, I always got up before the sun and finished at sunrise. So I never use sunscreen while running. My nose always runs, too while running (no matter the weather).

Reply

I would love to rotate through shoes, but I can only usually afford one pair at a time. I think at Christmas I will get 2 pairs, so that I can rotate them until my birthday. Who knows? Shoes are expensive!

Reply

Absolutely love the Mizuno Precisions & the new Sayonara. I also recently bought the Saucony Kinvara’s and love those too! I’m with you on the Wave Rider.. way too heavy! However, a guy at one of my local running stores told me that Mizuno is redesigning their entire line for 2014 and that the Wave Rider will be much lighter?? We’ll see!

Reply

Such cute blue eyes!!

Have fun with your mom <3 sounds like a yummmmmmmY time!

Reply

I wear the asics gel kayanos and I absolutely love them. I am nervous about going from the 18s to the 19s though.

I always wear sunscreen on my runs! I ended up missing a spot on my shoulder last week and the burn is just starting to subside.

Reply

I think I have a regular rotation of 3 shoes these days— Brooks Pure Cadence and Mizuno Wave Sayonara and Evo Cursoris. I have to say that my Evo’s are BY FAR my fave shoe though. I seriously love those things!

Reply

The Saucony Cortana 2 is my shoe of choice, I love the wide toe box! The Cortana 3 is being released at the beginning of August and I’m just a little bit excited!

Reply

I too get a runny nose!!! And I live in Queensland, Australia where it is pretty much always warm! Although it is winter at the moment and I am not coping. I don’t know how people train in actual cold climates! I wear Brooks running shoes and I mostly think about family, friends, work and what food I want to eat!

Reply

i used to love my wave riders too! … until i got pureconnects. love them both, but you’re right: the pures win!

Reply

As gross as it is, I am very happy to see that I am not the only one who suffers from their nose running. It is brutal. I’ve tried everything from allergy pills, puffers and get this, acupuncture! I would insert tiny needles (with little bandaids at the end) on the corners of my nose, in hopes that it would stop running – no luck!! When I went a blind date with my now fiance, he suggested a run but I said no. There was no way there would ever be a second if I subjected him to that. We settled on snowshoeing. It took about 3 months of dating and a lot of kleenex before I would run with him. We’ve run several races and half marathons since, so I must not gross him out too much :)

Have a wonderful visit with your mom.

Reply

I don’t wear sun screen when I run. I know I know, head down in shame. I learned my lesson though when my 6 mile run with my kids turn into a 4 hour run with them and I came back with a big ol’ tan line and a slight burn. (I never burn)

Reply

No runny nose but I have this weird little cough… I’m not sick and it happens only when I’m running… Super annoying!
Congrats on finding that shirt! I know exactly how you feel on that one!

Reply

I always wear sunscreen on my face, but forget to put it on everywhere else except on race day. Bad, bad, bad.

Brooke is such a little doll! My son (13 months) would be totally in love with her. He also has brown hair and blue eyes and it’s the best combination ever!

Reply

Tell me some of the thoughts you had during your last run? “i’m running! I’m running! I’m so lucky to be running!” “Why is this gym so hot?” “Crap, my shirt is riding up. Again. Why does this stupid shirt keep riding up?!”

Do you wear sunscreen when you run? A hat? Sunscreen, yes. Hat, no.

Reply

The runny nose thing is an actual medical condition called exercise-induced rhinitis – I have it, too! My doc. said there really isn’t anything you can do about it, and that it is just how some peoples bodies react to strenuous exercise. I feel like mine is worse in the winter but I definitely do still get runny on my longer summer runs.

Re: shoes, I’ve been running in the Asics GT-2xxx line for a couple years now, and am liking the lighter weight and lower heel to toe drop of the GT-2000’s. I do have to put Superfeet in my shoes, though, otherwise I get posterior tibial tendonitis. I’m so injury prone that I’m too scared to mix up my shoe rotation…I just have two pairs of the Asics w/ Superfeet that I use.

And yes to sunscreen AND a visor, since I feel like I sweat most of my sunscreen off during these hot, humid summer days. I love Athleta’s visor and have three of them that are almost as vital to my runs as my Garmin :)

Reply

I’m sure your mom is trying to get as much snuggle time in as possible.

Reply

I second your expert opinion that easy running is the key to limiting injuries. With the exception of track days (weekly) and tempo runs (um, bi-weekly?), all my other days are either easy runs or rest days. And I do high-ish mileage. At least 25 miles – 35 miles/week. I’ve had only one injury in six years of running. (I pulled a groin muscle — took only about a week of taking it easy to heal).

Brooks Adrenaline and a Nike trail runner. I’ve been wearing the Adrenaline since version 6. I’ve tried other brands/styles and just don’t like them as much. And I always run with a hat. I wouldn’t know how to run without one.

Reply

I saw that picture of you holding your shoes and I thought-“Wow-those look like Wave Riders and I know Janae is a Brooks girl.” Then I read your explanation. I am so committed to my Wave Riders, but maybe I should try on some lighter shoes to feel the difference :) I mostly run on trails (yes-in road shoes!) though so heavy may be better.

Reply

My nose always runs on a run longer than a couple miles! I talked to my doctor about it because it’s annoying and gross…He had me do a saline spray in my nostrils the night before, which totally dries me up, and I don’t even have to bring tissue on my runs anymore. Works like a charm! I just get the Up & Up brand saline nasal spray from Target.

”if i finish this run I am going to have a snickers ice cream”

Reply

I get a runny nose too!! this morning I kept having to push myself through half mile increments and then my head hurt (i’m recovering from a concussion) so I stopped to be safe. I’m going out for another short run now though.

Reply

This morning on my run I thought about how humid it was and how maybe winter running won’t be so bad this year.
I am getting new running shoes tomorrow. I’m nervous, I hate getting new shoes.

Reply

I love the Pure Flows 2! What color are you getting? I have the pink ones and love how bright they are! I route with about 4 shoes (Adidas Bostons, Brooks Ghost, Brooks Pure Flows, and the Mizuno Wave Rider). I also just bought the Saucony Ride, so I can’t wait to try it out! I typically don’t wear sunscreen, but I always wear sunglasses!

Reply

I rotate between two pairs of Saucony Kinvaras. They are absolutely my favorite shoes of all time but they wear out so darn quickly! I’ve actually started thinking about finding a shoe with a bit higher profile just to save me a few dollars!

Reply

I don’t wear sunscreen when I run…oops. I really should, but it’s always so early in the morning that I either (1) don’t remember to or (2) don’t have the effort to or (3) don’t have the brain/willpower to.

I currently run in Brooks Ghost 5s. I really want to try out the Wave Riders but I can’t justify spending that much money for new ones when I have 2 pairs of Ghost 5s that have relatively low mileage on them. Sad day.

Reply

My nose ALWAYS runs too! I have been on my husband about wearing sunscreen when he runs – it is so important!

Reply

I rotate between 3/4 pair of shoes at any given time. Currently it’s my Brooks Ravenna 4’s,ASIC Kayano 19’s, and Saucony Hurricanes. My go to though is the Ravenna! And yes….they are the same color as yours!
As for easy runs I don’t do nearly enough easy runs but I am working on changing that. It’s hard to convince some people that I run with that easy runs are so incredibly beneficial!!!!!
FYI……..my nose drips too non-stop when I run whether it’s 95 degrees or -5 degrees!
No sunscreen when I run…it’s pretty shady at 4:30 am. :)

Reply

Somehow I just NOW stumbled upon your blog. I love it, and your tag line is hilarious :) Great little reminders, and just so you know my nose always runs too. Like… always. Glad it’s not just me!

Reply

I’m a heavily freckled redhead…not wearing sunscreen is essentially deadly for me in the Southern summers (or winters for that matter!)! I have sport spf 100 (overkill I know, I’ll use 50 if I have to).

I am a solid Mizuno convert– I rotate Wave Rider 16’s and Elixir 8’s, but the riders will probably be retired soon. I tried another brand, and my body seriously rebelled…but it was a very different shoe, so it may have just been a weird fit for me!

Reply

My thoughts this morning: “Holy heck it’s humid” “Run easy…no effort…easy run” “DEER!!!!! OMG!!”
I fail miserably at putting sunscreen on while running. I’m amazing at it when laying by the pool, but for some reason I just never think to put it on when running.
I only rotate through a road and a trail shoe. I’ve really been enjoying my Brooks Trance recently but in the next month will be shopping again.

Reply

My nose ALWAYS runs too! Every time. No matter how hot, cold, sick, or not sick I am. ALWAYS!

Reply

I wear Mizuno Wave Ascends for short trail runs and Hoka Stinson Evos for long trail runs. I don’t run much on the road, but when I do, I have a pair of Mizuno Wave Riders for that. :)

Reply

Sun screen! If I wore a hat, it would be another thing that I could lose on the way. Plus I can imagine that I would be itchy and hot withit.

Runny nose here as well! But I found out that it must be allergies. If I take a Claritin the night before, I hardly ever use the tissues I carry along. Otherwise, I have to use several.

Happy Tuesday!

Love brooks ghost riders!! they are made for my foot!

Reply

Ugh, I really need to buy a light weight running shoe for non-running activities. I wear fairly heavy shoes (with lots of support) to run, but they are not the most fancy dancy shoes on the planet.

But hubby believes I should only have 1-2 pairs MAX of running shoes

Reply

I haven’t been wearing sunscreen lately but should be. I’ve been wearing a baseball cap that I got for free at a game and I’ve decided I like running in it better than my actually running hat. When it gets too hot I flip it around backwards and take advantage of the mesh at the back. Makes me look pretty menacing, but that’s not saying much as most of what I pass on runs these days are cows and blueberry fields!

Today while running I thought about how I need to put together a new training plan and sign up for another run in the Fall. I was supposed to do a Half in June but it didn’t end up happening and that made me pretty sad, so I need a new something to work towards.

Reply

Go to Cream in Palo Alto! Warm, giant, ice cream sandwiches!

Reply

I’m trying out a pair of semi-minimalist shoes called the Innov-8 Bare-x something etc. Can’t remember the full name :) I’m liking them so far! When it comes to running shoes for me, the lighter the better.

On my run this morning, I prayed, thought about my husband and son, thought about painting our “new-to-us” house, hoped that the rain and lightning didn’t get any worse, and thought about trying the new chocolate pb pop tarts. I might never try them, but they sure sound tasty!

It’s true – easy runs are SO important, but they are so hard to do! Next time I’m going to try your idea of listening to slower music. Bring on the Sara McLachlan songs!

Reply

I think about how many calories of deliciousness I’ve earned and how I’m going to spend them. Every time.

Love the color of those shoes! They almost match Brooke’s sweet eyes!

I am the worst at forgetting to check the corners of fitted sheets when they come out of the dryer…so many things hide in there!

Reply

“I am so done and my legs hurt and I have another 30 minutes to go”

Reply

All my thoughts on my last run were along the lines of “it is so hot” and “this sweat is stinging my eye”. I also dreamed about diving in the pool the whole time too.

Reply

Sunscreen is a must for me every time I run!
And my nose runs too! I have to carry at least 2 tissues with me when I run a 5k!

Reply

I really need to put on sunscreen when I run (which hasn’t been lately since it’s been SWELTERING) especially since I’m really fair.
My nose never fails to run anytime I run–but it’s even worse in the cold. And I absolutely hate when clothing decides to hide inside of sheets!

Hello from AZ! It is TERRIBLE right now. It was supposed to hit 113 today. I might die… Pray tell, where did you get that fave shirt of yours??

That is way too hot!!!! Eat lots of ice cream! It is from lululemon!

I’m not sure if this has been asked before, but I’ve seen (heard? Lol) you mention a few times that you don’t drink at all.. I’m just curious, why? Is it because you don’t like it? Because you have a daughter? Because the health benefits are non existent? Just curious..

I love hearing of your relationship with your mom and sister. I have a 3 year old daughter and pray that she says such nice things about me one day :)

My nose runs too!
I was trying really hard to keep track of what lap I was on at the track
I wear sunscreen but it sweats off so quickly I still keep getting tan lines! I tried wearing a hat once but it makes me soo much hotter!

HI JANAE!!! I had my first tempo run today and boy… I sure can see why you loved hard workouts! It’s much easier for me to focus on a hard workout than an easy one… hopefully TOMORROW i will get in the zone and just relax for a few miles. I would try your slow music trick but (1) i’m afraid i will just want to do a 90’s dance to the music and (2) my headphones broke! I am buying some fancy ones recommended by runner’s world and will let you know what i think. I’m not too into earbuds so they’re wraparound style.

On my last run I thought “huh maybe i should actually be running a bit faster than my regular super slow pace????” will report back on this too.

i need to wear sunscreen but i buy the spray kind by the vat and just spray it all over in the morning before i put on pants :) i want to wear a hat but my head gets super hot!! i might try a visor a la monica

i do love me some wave riders but i’ve been wearing brooks defyance and it’s been going pretty well!

Reply

I went to the beach last week and wore SPF 35 sunscreen when I laid out ALL DAY for 4 days and got absolutely no tan. I went for a 7 mile run in the middle of the day this week and wore no sunscreen and got a terrible sunburn. Note to self: Start running with sunscreen.

I am a die hard Wave Rider fan. Maybe one day my foot will be strong enough to handle a lighter shoe, but right now I have to have a little more support.

Reply

During my easy run I was mainly thinking about how my pair Brooks Ghost are going to get here within a week and I cannot wait to run in them!

Reply

I wore those same Mizunos tonight and DUDE they are so heavy! I actually ordered the PureFlow 2s but have to return them because my feet are too big. *sigh*

During my run tonight I mainly just thought, “Wow, could I run any slower?” and “I think my hips are going to pop off.” Needless to say, I’m a little rusty.

Reply

Yay cuddling! I try to ALWAYS wear sunscreen if there’s any chance the sun will come out. My skin doesn’t handle the sun very well, and I get sun rashes super easily. THEREFORE, I have learned the hassle of putting it on is WAY worth avoiding getting burnt and all rashed up. Bleh.

She’s beautiful. I like her bangs long.

I have serious runny nose issues when I run too. I wear a sweat band on my wrist to wipe it off, kinda icky but totally necessary! And what top is that that you love so much! It’s cute and I’m always on the lookout for new awesome running gear.

Glad you’re having fun with your mom in town, soak her up while you can! :)

Reply

Still reading and loving your blog. Yes to the runny nose and no to the sunscreen. I should really change the sunscreen habit but I don’t burn unless I am swimming all day. I had an easy run today a little over 4 miles at noon in Georgia hot and humid. Most of my thoughts were based on fears wow this grass is tall I hope a snake doesn’t jump out at me. Did I hear a dog it sounded big I should turn and go a different route( there is no leash law in the country). This hill feels awesome I still have this why did I take so many rest days since my race I missed this. Why is that car slowing down keep moving I have pepper spray.

Oh my friend, I miss you! So glad you get some quality time with your mama. And I’m so with you on overuse injuries. We all have to learn the hard way I guess. Ugh. Love ya!! Happy restaurant eating!

I always wear a hat and almost always wear extra sunscreen. I put on the vasoline aloe lotion with SPF 15 each morning, so I at least have some sunscreen on.

During my last run I kept thinking how heavy my legs felt and that I couldn’t wait for it to be over. Boo. Hopefully tonight’s run will be better :)

Reply

Not gonna lie…it’s HARD to wear sunscreen here. It’s crazy hot and humid = massive sweating. And no matter HOW “waterproof” the sunscreen is…it isn’t. It ends up in my eyes. And, to a lesser degree, in my nose and mouth. Gross. So (my dermatologist even approved this plan), I run early or late in the day, wear a hat, and run on shady paths. It’s not perfect, but it’s also dangerous to run when you can’t see (sunscreen in eyes). Trust me…there are plenty of days when I wish there was enough evaporation to keep the sweat to a trickle (or stream), rather than a geyser.

During my last run, I was mostly soaking in the gorgeousness of Culver Lake (where I grew up), and feeling sad that I’d be leaving to go home in just a few hours.

Reply

My nose runs but only in the cold. I always have a little serviette from the coffee shop in my hand and the gel pockets in my shorts stuffed full of extras when I run in the winter.

I mainly rotate Nike Free 3.0, Adidas adipure Gazelle & Motion, New Balance Minimus and Merrell Bare Access Arc. If it’s light weight, flexible and looks good, I’ll probably like it.

Reply

I race in Asics Gel Cumulus even though they are a bit too heavy and heel too high for daily use (for my taste). I seem to sustain less aches & pains with this shoe. But for recreational running, I like Saucony Ride 5 or the Mizuno Wave Riders. I am now wanting to try the Pureflow though ;)
Who makes your favorite tank top?

Reply

My nose runs as well. Have you tried the Snot Spot? It’s a small fleece-like partial glove that you wear to wipe your nose and then toss it in the wash. Works pretty well.

Reply

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, wonderful. I couldn’t help but to keep looking at the little girls eyes. They are beautiful!!!!

Reply

I love my Wave Riders!!! Although I think I’m going to get the PureFlows to race in- I’ve heard training in a heavier shoe helps you run faster in races. My friend recommends that new Sayonaras by Mizuno, too. I shall have to investigate before my half in October..!

MY NOSE RUNS WHEN I RUN TOO! I don’t understand and I absolutely HATE it!!

My last run was a morning run before work, and my thoughts usually revolve around what I have to do at work and how I wish I wasn’t going… And what I get to do after work.

I’m horrible at sunscreen. I never wear it. Not just runs, I don’t wear it at the pool, beach, etc… I’m blessed with skin that doesn’t burn, so it’s hard to remember!

How many different brands/types of running shoes to you rotate through? What is YOUR shoe lately (the one that you can’t live without)?
I don’t have enough to rotate through yet, but I;ve stuck with Mizunos the past few years. I’m currently in love with my new Wave Riders. I want to get the PureFlows for racing. Maybe the Sayonaras, too. And I think the Nike Free Runs are cute and super light for shorter and easier runs (aka when I go to my parents’ house for the weekend and don’t want to risk brining my favorite shoes and forgetting them!)

My nose is always, always is a faucet when I run. Last thoughts from my run: “Am I done yet?” It was just one of those slugfest runs that you try to push through, but you have to take the bad with the great, right? I always wear sunscreen on my face – usually SPF 30 every morning, and SPF 50 in the summer when I run. No hats for me though. I have the NB Minimus, Saucony Kinvara 4, Saucony Type A5, Newton Motion, and will soon add Saucony Virratas. My go-to for the past couple years has been the Kinvara (my beloved shoes – have gone through too many pair to admit).

I tried the Brooks Pure Drift for about a week and a half and could never adjust to the flat, low profile of the shoe. Since you have those and the Pure Flows, how do they compare? Have you worn any of the other shoes in the Pure line? I really want to try another style, but not sure which direction to go….

Also – Doesn’t it just melt your heart that Brooke loves your Mama and must somehow know that she won’t be there for much longer so she gave her some extra special cuddles? :)

Can we talk about the nose running thing??? It happens to me more during spin than running. Talk about annoying!

Oh boy, my nose runs LIKE CRAZY when I run. It’s not nearly as bad this time of year as it is during the winter, but it’s still a thing — and it’s incredibly annoying!

my nose always runs while running. I usually blow it into the inside of my shirt… real, real classy ;)

Ugh, my nose runs too when I run! It’s much worse in the winter, but I notice it some in the summer.

I definitely wear sunscreen (melanoma survivor here) when I run unless I go out super early! I don’t use as much as the tube says, but it must be enough since I don’t burn. I like the spray kind for my back so I can put it on myself when I’m heading out alone!

My nose always runs when I run too! It could be 100 degrees out and my nose will be running. Must be that my nose is jealous of my legs so it makes sure it gets to join in and “run” too. haha!

Weird, but on the Today Show this morning they were talking about runny noses while working out! They said it was more common in people who run outside (because of pollen/pollution), but its completely normal! The dr on the show did say that if it’s really bothersome that you could ask your dr for a nasal spray and use it 30 min before your training session. :)

I get the runny nose thing too! It’s much worse in the Winter but still there in the Summer. Annoying!

It’s strange, I remember to wear sunscreen any time I’m going outside except when I’m running! Maybe I think the sun can’t get me because I’m running!

OMG my nose runs when I run too! I thought it was just me! Nothing sexier than a sweaty girl with snot hangin’ out…

I put sunscreen on if the sun is out. And I usually wear a dorky hat.
