Torture, Canadian candy and saladpizza (I did mean to leave that one word)

One of the main reasons to go to CPK is because of the unlimited bread and butter.  Our server really liked me after the 12th time I asked her to bring out another loaf of bread.

I had my all-time favorite bbq chicken salad

and some of this heavenly pizza that has a salad on top… now that is brilliant.  Next time I will be ordering an entire pear and gorgonzola pizza all for myself, it was amazing.

Brooke and I walked around the mall for a long time and I tortured myself by going into Baby Gap without any money to spend there.  It hurt my heart to not buy every last thing.

Do you ever have those times where you seriously cannot remember what you did for a few hours when you try to think about it?  That is what is happening to me right now and the only thing I can remember after the mall is dinner and that is probably only because I have a picture of it.

We had a freezer meal for dinner from Target that we bought when we first moved in and didn’t have any of our kitchen stuff to cook with.  It was so-so (I know, I usually rave about every little thing I eat) but the sourdough bread with butter and strawberries made up for the beef and broccoli.

For dessert we tore into the BEST candy ever.  Our friend Amanda sent us her favorite Canadian candies and these might make it through the weekend if we are lucky.

Time for the grand finale of our Friday night.  Laundry city.

You know you are getting old when you choose to stay in on a Friday night because having all of the laundry done makes you incredibly happy.

I have never tried Canadian chocolates, but they look cool! And I do t mind laundry, I think I’d do it waaaay more though if I actually had a washer dryer in my apartment Instead of in the basement of the building…

I have my last Cross Country meet today! I’m so nervous.
I used to live in Australia and we have some of those candies there. I looooove Smarties (they are a so much better than m & m’s) and Aeros are delish. Enjoy! (:

Today is a rest day but plan to do lots of walking and a longish run tomorrow. I don’t mind the doing laundry part but hate putting laundry away. That’s the worst. Never had Canadian candy but now I want some!

Ohh I actually have tried Canadian chocolate- Dove….it was so yum! Not Belgian/Swiss standard but it had potential :)

Reply

The crunchie (yum), aero and smarties are British. You will need more than one crunchie :)

This is totally random, but I am not sure if you know! There were some FMW that are recalled for containing traces of metal. I saw it in the news and immediately though of you haha

Haha, I have days like that all the time where I have no idea what I did for a big chunk of the day–happy to hear I am not the only one.

No running for me right now, so a walk and yoga is in order–how exciting, I know. I can’t wait to get back to running:-)

I don’t mind laundry so much. Sunday is my laundry day and it literally takes all day long because of our miniature apartment sized washer and dryer. But I don’t have to go anywhere to do laundry so I’m not really complaining.

I’m planning a 10 miler this morning. I just have to get up the motivation because it’s the kind of gloomy rainy day that makes you want to stay in your pjs all day long. The weatherman got it right today when he said 100% chance of rain.

Umm. Embarrassing!! I’m Canadian and didn’t realize that these were solely Canadian chocolates and that you guys down in the States didn’t know about them … Mind. Blown!! I really, really, really hope you like them!!
Smarties > M&Ms (tastes better + no artificial colours!!). Make sure you are somewhere you can pick the toffee from your teeth after the Crispy Crunch. Coffee Crisp = my favourite chocolate bar. And make sure you let the Aero bar melt on your tongue (or at least one square of it!) so you can feel the bubbles burst — so cool!! And the fact that it’s the mint one makes it even more epic. :)
Please, please, please let me know how you like them.

Hahaha Chelsie, as your fellow Canadian I didn’t know those were exclusively Canadian chocolates either… oh well :P. And I just finished 15km :D.

Me neither :)

We have them in Australia :)

I bought this Asian noodle bowl thing at the grocery store the other day because I was craving Chinese food. And it was definitely just so-so. Such a bummer! ;) But we’re getting sushi tonight, so that will make up for it!

Reply

Do you not have those chocolates in the States? I’m Canadian and it is usually the other way around, we have to wait years to get things that you guys have had forever (like everything in Target, including Target itself). Weird, I was unaware of the chocolate difference haha.

I am so excited to NOT run today. I’m still in my p.j.’s :) I’m recovering from my marathon last weekend and going to soak in the laziness, ha.

I have 12 miles planned this morning- almost ready for my half on Nov. 4th!! Plus I’m using gummy lifesavers as fuel so I’ll let you know how that goes. ;)
BTW I work at the GAP, and everytime they stick me in the baby section I get the worst baby fever- good thing I don’t have kids yet because otherwise all my paycheck would go right back into their kids clothes! Everything is soooo adorable! Have a great weekend!

Is that really only just Canadian chocolate? I for sure though Smarties were in the states, too!! Those weren’t ever really any of my faves growing up. Well, Smarties were cool because I’d carefully open the candy coating and let the chocolate inside melt in my mouth…TRY IT!

I’m kinda sad that Canada doesn’t have Extreme Sour Patch kids that you taunt me with often!! My hubby’s FL right now and one of my requests is for him to look for them. If he doesn’t get them, please mail me some of your stash Janae! haha

I’m Canadian too, but have had many conversations about candy differences with Americans (it was an important topic when trying to do all-nighters in university!). If I understand it properly, what Americans call Smarties are what we call Rockets. Oh and Fun Fact: when I was in Trinidad and Tobago, the orange Smarties (chocolate ones) were orange-chocolate flavoured!

First 10k race since having surgery in June today! Woohoo!

That’s really interesting Kelly!!! Oh how I love these chocolate differences!!

I haven’t had Canadian chocolate, but I did get some Canadian maple candy this summer and it was delicious!

Canadian candy looks an awful lot like a lot of the things in the UK. Crunchies are amazing and I love the texture.

I’m down with laundry, it is one of those chores I don’t really mind doing.

Reply

the last thing I ate that was so-so was Subway last night. But I think it is more because I wanted a fried egg sandwich and Chris said he was egged out and wanted to go to Subway.

Reply

I can’t believe people sent you candy from Canada, but no Big Turk/Turkish Delight bars. My hubby is from Canada and they are like the special thing there. I have a feeling you might also like another Canadian delicacy: ketchup flavored chips!

Just finished up a race for breast cancer – Think Pink 5K! First place female (it was a small race) in 21:30 which is faster than I have raced in a while! Good start to a beautiful morning. Good luck and have fun in your race tomorrow!

Was that the BLT pizza? We used to go to CPK all the time when I could eat gluten:: tear::

I LOVE COFFEE CRISP!!! I live in Michigan and get at LEAST 10 bars every single time I go over the bridge

Reply

haha! i love seeing the collection of canadian candy! yup, i have tried them all!!! crispy crunch and coffee crisp are the best in the world…aero bars have never been among my favourites…the last thing i had that was so-so was a tim horton’s apple fritter (tim hortons=#1 donut shop in canada) – i will not get that kind again!
have a great saturday, janae!

OH the good old laundry mat days. Wait until Brooke’s old enough to run around. When Jaxon was a toddler and I had to go to the laundry mat I used to stress out completely because I couldn’t chase after him if my arms were full carrying baskets. Nope, never tried Canadian candy but went to Canada last year (Quebec & Montreal)….so gorgeous, can’t wait until I can go again. I have a six mile run today (for some reason this training schedule gives me a break one of the weeks) too bad I turned off my alarm. Looks like I’ll have to skip date night and go tonight. :) Have so much fun at the race, good luck.

a post without a Brooke photo???? So disappointing!

oooh! I’m Canadian and don’t realize the chocolate we have compared to you guys. I LOVE coffee crisp..and smarties..and aero..and just about everything. But yes, coffee crisps are amazinggg!

There’s a little tiny grocery/market in Santana Row with lots of candies and chocolates from other countries. It’s super fun but I always walk out of there with like $15 worth of sweets :P
Have a great race! I hope you enjoy the NWM as much as all my friends have :)

I don’t mind doing laundry. It’s dusting that I loath. Once Ross put the laundry in the washing machine & started it & claimed he had done the laundry. Ummm. No. Frick. I would ‘do the laundry’ every day if that was what it entitled. Let’s face it, ‘doing’ it is FOLDING it!

Pear Gorgonzola pizza is my absolute favorite pizza. And now I am going to crave it until I get some. Thanks! ;)

Going to go for a run in a little bit. Since it is cold & rainy, I didn’t have to wake up super early to go. It also helps that my long run will be about 7 miles instead of the 18 or 20 it used to be. How does SR run marathons back to back?!

LAUNDRY – hate it but love it when it’s done. Soooo satisfying to have an empty laundry basket and full drawers/wardrobes.

My Saturday run was 1.14miles.. So lame I know, I’m still getting over a knee injury and today I only ran for 10 minutes.

I never thought I had eaten Canadian chocolate but by the looks of your pictures I have because I’ve definitely eaten mint Aero before – which is lush by the way!

The last thing I ate that was so-so was…..errrrm…..probably Wednesday when I didn’t really have dinner, I just had little bits of unhealthy snacks. It was disappointing.

Reply

I had no idea that you guys didn’t have Smarties, Coffee Crisp, Crunchie, and Aero down there! Those are seriously some of my favorites… especially the Coffee Crisp :D

I’m doing laundry right now, sigh. No fun, but our stinky running clothes have GOT to get washed!
I had 18 miles this morning, didn’t quite get under 7:30 pace thanks to running smack into a 3-mile fundraiser walk at mile 14. I can’t wait for our weather to finally cool down. Last week we had beautiful 60’s and 70’s, but today’s run was back in the humid 80’s.

Long run saturdays!!! my races are always on sundays for some reason lol except in november i’ll be doing my first one on a saturday!!!
i don’t mind doing laundry…i know i’m weird
never had Canadian chocolate, but now i really want to try it!
last thing i had that was so so…..my salad the other day. i don’t like tomatoes on them but i put them on it since i hadn’t had it in a while, bad decision lol

Ran long yesterday. Just a walk this morning.
I actually do like laundry.
Haven’t tried anything Canadian.
Went to Claim Jumpers and it was so-so.

I have been following your blog for awhile now. You’ve definitely helped me train for a couple of half marathons just by reading about your determination and passion for running! Oh and I don’t care what country it’s from, chocolate is delicious! Good luck on your race! :)

I don’t mind doing laundry at all, especially now that I use Dreft for the baby. That stuff smells so good!

There is a cute little Italian restaurant in downtown Boulder (Colorado) on Pearl St called Antica Roma and they have a Caesar salad pizza that I LOVE! I get it pretty much every time we go there, but you really have to eat it then otherwise the warm crust/colder salad combo gets weird as a leftover.

I ran my very first race, a 10k, this morning. It was already going to be a PR considering it was my first actual race, but I even beat all my training times!
As far as candy goes, I feel like all the other countries have way better chocolate than the we do here in the US. My personal favorite is British chocolate. Cadbury, YUM.

I ran 18 miles this morning. I was planning on 16 but the cool breeze and the lack of dogs chasing me inspired me to keep going. :-)

I wish I could meet up with you and SR in the city! It would be awesome to be out there hanging out in my favorite city with two of my favorite bloggers!

Have a good one!

I’m born and raised Canadian so obviously I love Canadian chocolate. My favourite…Coffee Crisp and Smarties.
I even go as far to put Coffee Crisp chocolate bars in my pancakes. Mmmmm.

God that pizza looks super delicious. My favorite pizza is a “white” one (no tomato sauce, just mozzarella), rocket and parmesan cheese on top. It`s as perfect as it gets. Some put ham on it as well. I say: when you can eat a pizza without toppings, the restaurant might have potential. My friends still make fun for me eating a pizza loaf that was spiced with a bit of oil as well in Capri, Italy and afterwards saying that it was the best pizza I had in Italy.

Hey Janae , there’s a really nice restaurant in San Francisco called : castagnolas … you should go try it sometime..
that my favorite place to get clam chowder in a bread bowl.

I’m a little late but as they say better late than never.
Did 5 miles on the treadmill and 30 min spinning….great sweatin’

Strangely enough I enjoy doing laundry except for folding and putting away. So, i guess i don’t really like it cause I just stick it in the washer LOL

As a Canadian I still think the States have the best treats, restaurants, etc. but fav chocolate would be peanut M & Ms….you’ve got to try them

I looooove candy from other countries, especially Japan!

Btw- I heard about a Tiffany necklace at the Nike women’s race this year???

I’m glad to hear you tried my favorite pizza at CPK! Isn’t it just the best?! Now I want some!

Ohhhhh you are torturing me with that Canadian candy picture!
I wish I had stocked up last time I went back, especially on Mr. Big and Crispy Crunch (keep those for last!!)
