What’s the plan and weekending!

Before we start, I must share that my favorite lululemon vest and my #1 winter running coat are on a huge sale right now. I wear both of these all winter long and have for a decade. I’ve never seen either of them so cheap! Both fit true to size… I have a size 6 in both. Here and here!

(shirt, shorts, shoes)

Saturday’s run felt very eventful. Our friend saw a cougar on the trail just ahead of us, a bald eagle flew right over our heads, and there was a mannequin head in one of the trees that we saw in the dark, which really freaked us out. We definitely took a few stops along the way due to these events.

Fourteen miles @ 7:58 average.

53 miles for the week and adequate endorphins to get me through a tough week of life.

Beck woke up, and we went straight into birthday mode.

My little buddy. We spend a lot of time together, just the two of us.

He was so happy to finally have his own scooter like Skye.

And then he requested pretzel bites with his grandma at the mall.

Followed by ice cream. I went to Yogurtland four times a week with Brooke when she was his age, and I think this was Beck’s second time ever going here. Times have changed.

On Sunday, we woke up and watched the NYC Marathon, and it sure made me want to run it again someday. Watching Kellyn Taylor lead the women for so long with a ten-month-old at home… She is so inspiring to me.

We had family over for corn chowder.  I don’t think it is possible for me to ever tire of soup.

When Skye heard that my dad used to buy my art from an art store I set up in our house, she got to work making art for him to buy from him.

Look who is back to kicking around the soccer ball with the kids?! He ditched his crutches!

We finished with chocolate cake with chocolate icing for the chocolate lovers’ birthdays.

Tell me a highlight from your weekend!

Did anyone run NYC?  I want to hear about it!

Who has a treadmill and do you find yourself using it more in the winter?  Which treadmill do you have?

Question from Andrew-> What is your official drink for fall?

-I could live off of chai and hot chocolate.

I love that running vest! I bought it after your recommendation. Any idea what size you bought for the coat? Reviews say that it runs small.
It looks like it was a great birthday weekend! I hosted a family dinner last night and had a small birthday celebration for my niece. I was a little busy running a marathon on her actual birthday.
NYC Marathon, my jaw dropped when I saw the tiny women’s elite field at the start line. It reminded me why I HAD to go spectate Chicago this year.
Can you put on your bucket list to run with Shalane at NYC? I love that she has paced Matt James the last two years.

Hey Molly! Oh I hope you love the coat too. It is true to size for me! So fun you were able to do that for your niece. Being an aunt is the best. The pics of Matt and shalane were absolute goals. Happy Monday, Molly!

Aw, happy birthday, Beck! This weekend’s highlight was a 4 mile run in cooler weather! I just hit 20 weeks pregnant and I’m feeling the difference in my endurance. But I was so grateful to get that run in (with plenty of walking intervals, let’s be honest). We have an old Pro Form treadmill (I think it’s about 9-10 years old) that we use both in summer and winter when it’s too hot/humid or too cold to run outside. I am hoping to replace it with a Peloton tread when it finally gives out (it’s definitely a little slower than it used to be, ha). I love chai in the winter, and also hot coffee with cinnamon (I usually do iced coffee in the summer/early fall). Happy Monday, Janae! Wishing you a great week!

Yay for 20 weeks! Emily, I am so happy for you and love that you are out there running. You have to keep me updated with your pregnancy. I think we both need the Peloton treadmill soon;). Enjoy some hot coffee with cinnamon today. Thanks, you too!

NYC was such a great race to watch!!! I loved seeing Kellyn lead for so long. But Helen Obiri’s kick at the end? She is so powerful!

Agreed on chai and hot chocolate for fall drinks. And I drink a lot more tea in the winter!

SO so strong. And to win both Boston and NYC in one year?! Absolutely amazing. Hope you have some great fall drinks this week, thanks Mariah!

Highlight of my weekend was that my month-long cold finally ended! I think my Saturday run helped push it off for good, so I believe I need more running in my life for cold-prevention this winter.:)
Sorry to hear about Andrew’s freak accident & all the pain and chaos it has caused you all! Those walking boots are pretty nifty for mobility – my son had one for a broken foot this summer & it was so cool how it allowed him to walk on a broken foot! I hope his bones heal super quickly so he can be back to doing all of his favorite things.
I NEED to visit my treadmill in prep for winter. We have a very basic treadmill – I skipped the extra fancy features & focused on a decent motor, thinking that may help it last long. So far, so good!
My favorite fall drink is licorice spice or black chai tea. My kids tell me that it makes my car smell like pie. Around Thanksgiving we bring out the cinnamon apple cider (apple cider warmed up with those little cinnamon candies).
Happy THREE to Beck! 3 year olds are so fun. And a scooter is the best present!!

FINALLY. Katie, that is way too long to be sick. Running just makes everything in life better. Your son broke his foot this summer?! Uggg but so happy that the boot was able to help him. You made the right choice with your treadmill. I want my car to smell like pie haha. Oh I need some of your cinnamon apple cider. Thanks friend, have a great day!

That’s a great price for the vest, thanks for the heads up.

I live in Brooklyn and usually cheer but was away the weekend so I also watched on TV. Super small field but great showing for the US and both Mom’s in their 30’s.

Coffee is pretty much my year round drink :)

Right?! I hope we can all match in them ha. I hope you were somewhere fun this weekend. Seriously… these women inspire me so much. Hope you have some great coffee today. Thanks Deidre!

Looks like a great birthday! And yay for Andrew! So glad he’s doing better and better.
The NYC marathon! Kellyn is so inspiring. Plus, seeing Ali and Becs on the broadcasts was so fun. Watching it really inspired me to do something big again. New York is magical.
I’m looking forward to a good and busy week! Have a great day Janae

OH MY GOODNESS… seeing them was incredible. I am so proud of Ali and inspired by her drive. Keep me updated on what you choose! Have a fabulous Monday, Wendy!

Just grabbed another vest! It’ll be my third thanks to you! Love how lightweight they are!

YAY! Enjoy! Seriously, best vests on the market. I hope you have a beautiful day, Kim!

I was bad sick and did not get my long run in this weekend but thank goodness it was a low mileage week, sandwiched between my two 20 milers! Feeling better and ready to hit the ground running, literally! Lol. CIM in 4 weeks!

Reply

LORI! I am so sorry you had such a rough weekend, so grateful that it fell on your low week. Cheering for you to have your best marathon in four weeks! I want to come run it! The timing was actually probably perfect because it forced some rest that you needed. Happy taper time soon!

I got to meet my brother’s fiance’s sister (aka his future sister-in-law). Our families live on opposite coasts so we’ve only FaceTimed but she was visiting Vermont and took time to meet up. It was so easy chatting with her because she’s so much like her sister, whom I love :) I lived in NYC when doing my Master’s and marathon weekend was sooooo fun!!! Drink for fall… I drink a lot more tea (esp peppermint) and love having hot chocolate with Enso. Happy third birthday, Beck! I love that he asked for time with your mom *heart melts*

Reply

Courtney, that is SO exciting. Oh I am so glad you were able to meet her in person and that things just clicked for you two. Oh I bet it was a blast living there during marathon weekend. Off to check out Enso. Seriously, he loves going to the mall with her so much. Hope your day is a great one!

Janae, I feel strongly about the fact that you NEED the peloton tread! The tread not the tread +. It is AMAZING and you will seriously LOVE it!!!!!

I feel so strongly about this too… now to send Andrew your comment haha:). Thanks Katrina, have a beautiful day!

So happy to see Andrew’s healing continue to progress!

Yesterday was a great day. Early morning bike ride with Les, then good church.

I don’t own a treadmill, but I have a bike trainer that I pull out when the winds are too crazy (twice last week.) I use videos from GCN (Global Cycling Network.) I did an hour session last week that was so hard. It started at 110 rpm cadence then dropped all the way to 50 in 3 minute intervals. After a recovery, it went from 60 to 110 in 4 minute intervals. My legs were dead.

We drink coffee year round, but I like to buy different flavors so we’re drinking Gingerbread, Frosted Vanilla and Pumpkin Spice right now. I want to learn how to make real European hot chocolate and I’ve been researching techniques and recipes.

Reply

Kathy, that sounds like the perfect Sunday! Okay, that session sounds so hard. I would have passed out. That all sounds so good, European hot chocolate is the best hot chocolate on the planet. Have a great day!

I use my treadmill a lot, but honestly I feel like I use it more in the summer because I don’t want to have to get up crazy early to beat the heat, haha! I love a good herbal tea – I just picked up Trader Joe’s pumpkin spice rooibos, so I need to give it a try. Highlight of my weekend was running in St. George! I didn’t make it up to Snow Canyon, but I found a good trail and it was GORGEOUS (albeit pretty cold for St. G). Loved it!

Happy belated Birthday, Beck!

That is so true… it’s nice to have the option to go a bit later in the winter but that is not an option in the summer heat unless you have the treadmill. OH fun, I want to try that from TJ’s. SO happy you were able to go to St. George and run on a beautiful trail. That place is the best. Have a great day, Tess!

Love those coats as well! Please keep us in the loop on any findings you might uncover for a tread! I am wondering if I need one for winters ahead. I just love being outside, but there are few days that I wish I had one.

I thought tea/coffee was off limits for Mormonism but you can drink chai? Always interested to learn more if you’re willing to share.

Sounds like a lovely weekend! Slightly jealous of the geographic closeness you have with your extended family. A highlight of mine was spending it with my parents who live on a different continent than we do at the moment.

I’m headed to Budapest for work next week and would love a few of your recommendations from your trip there! Best things to check out? Or places to run?

Reply

Happy Birthday, Beck!!

I have a Nordictrack. I definitely use it slightly more in the winter but if I can get outside, that is almost always my first choice.

I love a good peppermint mocha or hot chocolate mixed with coffee.

Could you post the Llnk for the scooter you bought for your son. Thanks!
