I Won’t Take the Blame + Let’s Catch Up.

(leggings, top, shoes)

Thank you so much for all of the birthday wishes, it was my best birthday yet. Andrew surpassed all of my unreasonable high expectations for the day. These birthday expectations are all my mom’s fault; I refuse to take any blame;)

We started our Valentine’s Day off with a run/ride together for 9 miles @ 8:35 pace.

It’s that time of life when I restart working on my ‘chicken arm’ form (as an old coach used to call it)… My elbows naturally want to fly all over the place when I run, and I’m not sure why. So I will focus on being efficient with my arm swing today.

My favorite form check guide:
These two were thrilled because Andrew was able to make it to storytime.

And for our Valentine’s Day date, we went for sushi.

We made it a quick lunch because these two don’t last long in restaurants.

And Andrew took a rose and panda express to Brooke at school:)

*Let’s go over some tangents today, even though it is Wednesday. Runners are strange people… I wanted my birthday party to be at 6 am in 20°F weather, and I had people that happily joined me in this craziness.

*This crack was the starting line for our tempo last week. We have so many random markings and nicknames for different areas near us, and I love it.

*Brooke has mastered the pancake. I came home from a run, and she had these waiting for me.

*I came across a post from 2014 where I talked a little about my sleeping habits. Of course, I was injured often trying to marathon train and recover like this…

*I thought I would try out the Dark Chocolate Ganache cake from TJ’s last week instead of the Vanilla one, and it was not my best decision. It was good but nowhere near as good as the vanilla version. Always go for TJ’s vanilla sheet cake.
*One of my birthday wishes was to get matching permanent bracelets with the girls. We went to Holly, and we love them.
*I cannot wait to try these.

Anything with your running form you have been working on?

Do you like to wear jewelry?

Sushi, love it, or pass?

Tell me a tangent today!

Love that form check image! I am always trying to work on my forward lean. I think because I am a slow runner, that lean forward is a little hard to do unless I’m actively thinking about it. I tend to just run straight up and down. My tangent for today: the weird tings teachers do- I’m learning to tie-dye some old running leggings purple, green, and gold! My school is having a Courir de Mardi Gras (Mardi Gras Run) this Friday. In addition to a fun color run with Mardi Gras colors (purple, green, gold), we’re also having gumbo and King Cake. It’ll be a crazy day! Happy Wednesday Janae! :)

Isn’t that image the best! Oh the lean makes such a difference for us! Okay, you guys are the best. I want to come, sounds like the best day ever! Hope your day is off to a great start, Emily!

I’m just over here trying to pick my feet up more while running. On Monday our group run was on railroad tracks and a golf course. Just past sunset while we all forgot headlamps. I had to pick my legs up so much just to stay upright.
I love seeing all the kids Valentine’s Day celebration. I bet Brooke felt so loved and special when Andrew (and you!) showed up at school.
Tangent: my neighbor gave me homemade sugar cookies last night and then asked if my husband could set a few mousetraps in her car (eek!) when he arrived home. I said “Sure!” I took the cookies and Aaron did the hard work with the mousetraps. Marriage!

Ohhhh I am with you on that one. The trails make me realize how much I shuffles sometimes. Hahaha that is an awesome deal… sounds like our marriage often too;). I hope your day is a beautiful one!

That is so sweet that Andrew dropped off a special lunch for Brooke at school!
Important pancakes question: do you guys make your pancakes on an electric griddle? Is that easier/better than just a regular old pan? I think my mom used to make our pancakes that way, and I had completely forgotten it was an option!
I wear the same jewelry every day – wedding ring & simple stud earrings – so anything that is simple & re-wearable, I guess I love! Your new bracelets are perfect; what a great idea.
Glad you had a perfect birthday! Keep it going all week!

Hey Katie! Great Q… we use the griddle because we have to make like 30 pancakes to feed everyone. I don’t think it tastes any better, just much more convenient when making them for the masses ha. Thank you and I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Love the idea of the permanent jewelry bracelets! But, I get yearly MRIs (high risk breast cancer) so I’m guessing that would not be a good idea for me. How long will the girl’s bracelets last as they grow? Super cute idea and I just love the mother/daughters bond you have :)

I can’t remember the last time I had sushi and now I think my mission is to eat sushi this weekend!

Tangent – My SIL is in labor! I’m awaiting my first nephew!

I am so sorry you have a high risk for breast cancer. I’m so glad you go yearly to get things checked out. That is a good question ha… the lady that did ours just told us to come back when they get too tight and she can fix them. YES to your weekend sushi goal. I support that. SO excited for your first nephew. I hope everything goes perfectly for them both! Have a beautiful day, Rachel!

I’ve been eyeing permanent bracelets. I bonded with my younger daughter over Christmas by getting our helixes pierced. Yowza! I thought she was going to pass out because she was holding her breath so long. And I have a fairly high pain tolerance but it stung! Definitely something painless like a bracelet next time! I have a ton of jewelry but wear my faves all of the time, which is why I think that the permanent bracelet would be right up my alley. And I love sushi, but my husband is allergic to anything that lives in water (anaphylactic shock allergic) so we only go to one place where they are very very careful…

Oh my goodness. I LOVE that you did that with her! Coolest mom ever. I just had my inner conch pierced on my birthday and I’m ready to yank it out it hurts so bad! You would seriously love the permanent bracelets. I’m obsessed, I want to do a necklace next. Way less painful. I hope you get some of that sushi from that restaurant soon… how scary for your husband! Hope your day is the best, Jackie!

I’ve found that when I run with my palms up instead of sideways, my elbows naturally tuck in more.

This is so interesting Lisa because my massage therapist tells me I need to walk with my thumbs pointing out, so palms up, to help correct my right shoulder that rolls forward a lot.

Absolutely trying this. Thank you so much. Have a beautiful day!

I love that Andrew brings Brooke lunch and a rose on Valentine’s Day. So sweet. Looks like a really good day for all of you.
I have been working on my arm swing as well. But more of using them when my legs are feeling tired. And also working on posture. That form guide is awesome!
I wear a necklace all the time. My husband gave it to me for our 25th anniversary. I rarely take it off. I love that you and the girls have the bracelets.
Yes to sushi!! We love it, and it’s usually our go to for date nights.
I have been doing Wednesday morning easy long runs for the last few weeks, and really enjoying them. Not sure which route I’m taking today, but it’s sunny and chilly, so perfect!
Have a good day Janae!

He is so so sweet to her. I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day too! I need to work on my posture too. I love that you have that necklace from your husband. I hope you had the perfect sunshine route today. Thanks Wendy, you too!

Hi Janae! I think the three running cues I use are potato chips in hands, string pulling up from head, and twenty dollar bill between butt! I think I learned these three from you actually!
Looks like you had an awesome day! Let the birthday week festivities continue!

Reply

Oh this makes me so so happy. I forgot about the string one… using that tomorrow! Thanks friend, hoping to celebrate all month!

My sister and I took our mom to get permanent bracelets as her Christmas present this past year. She loved it! I also love it because I always feel put together since I have some jewelry at all times. Love that you all got matching ones!

Reply

I love that you did that together. It’s my new favorite thing… I want to do it for everyone’s birthday. Hope you have a beautiful day, Maureen!

My birthday was last week and I invited my running friends to join me too for a 6:30 run in 15 degrees. I wore leggings though ;) I think we ran a little faster than normal just to keep warm and get to the post-run coffee and scones quicker, hah.

I’ve been working on my arm swing too, and need to work on the lean a bit more!

And Brooke making you pancakes while you’re out for your run = heaven!!

Reply

Hahaha sounds like our groups would get along great;). Sounds perfect and now I need some scones. Let’s work on these together and happy birthday last week. Have a beautiful day, Michelle!

I love that you blame your mom, I’m in the same boat! My Mom would sneak into our rooms early in the morning and wake us up singing happy birthday so she’d be the first one. My poor husband has a lot to live up to as well. ;) I love the permanent bracelets – I’m hoping to do one with my sister the next time she visits! I have a question for you – I’m getting ready for my first half, and wanted to know if you have a preference between local, small races or bigger more established and well-organized races for a first timer? Any suggestions? Thanks! And happy continued birthweek!!

Reply

Haha and our kids can blame us;). I love that your mom would do that for you. So so fun. Hmmmmm personally, I would want to do a local one just so I’m not adding any travel stress to race day but really there are pros and cons both ways… mind if I ask this question for tomorrow’s post? I would love to see what everyone says. I am SO excited for you!

Reply

For sure! Thank you SO much! My “bigger” half option is only 45 min away from me, but I am nervous about parking and logistics, like you mentioned. I’d love to hear what everyone says!

I love sushi!

I do like to wear a bit of jewelry. Many years ago I watched an episode of sex and the city, and my friend hunted down Charlotte’s bow necklace that I fell in love with! And now I own it. It’s my favorite piece.
