Thursday Things!

(shorts, top, shoes)

8 miles @ 8:48 average and each mile felt terrible.  I’m guessing it’s because of the heat but also some days just feel terrible and there is nothing you can do about it.

There was a half marathon that I used to do here that STARTED on this huge uphill.  Nothing like feeling defeated .4 miles into a 13.1 mile race.

We went to the bike park before getting in the car to head home.  Everyone needed to get their energy out!

I drove while he studied and the drive was extended by a few hours because of traffic!

Just a few Thursday Things:

*Whenever I am doing a solo run on the roads, I try to vary things as much as possible.  I’ll jump up and down off of curbs, run on the grass when I can, hop onto some gravel and get a mixture of surfaces throughout the run.  It helps to strengthen my stabilizer muscles and avoid overuse injuries.

IMG 9879

*I started getting grey hair when I was 27 and with each year I am getting more and more.

IMG 9839

*My left knee and foot were feeling a little rough last week and then I just wore my Cliftons for a few days straight and boom… nothing.   I’m getting a little too confident in these because they make everything in my running world right again.  I am positive I would still be dealing with plantar fasciitis if it wasn’t for these.

*Yes.

*My brother got a Tesla and so we went out for a drive in it… My stomach DOES NOT handle the 0 to 60 in 3 seconds thing at all.

IMG 9877

*He also got some new Pump It shoes… does this take anyone else back a few decades?

IMG 9900

*It doesn’t matter how many time we see my brother’s fake snake, it always gives us a heart attack!

IMG 9896

*Beck is in the stage of falling ALL of the time.  He thinks he can do everything the big kids can do which is resulting in scratches galore.

IMG 9971

*Runkeeper sent this email… all it takes is 15:09 minutes of movement to lift our moods.

I’m so glad you take Beretta with you on your trips! I always wondered if she stayed behind or got to go on your St. George trips. I take my dog, Petey, with me pretty much everywhere. It makes travel a little more complicated, but it’s totally worth it!

I had my first run in seven weeks this morning after a bout with some adductor tendinitis (I think??). Feeling good so far. I can already tell my day is going to be fabulous!!

Yes! We always bring her:). I think that is a main reason we vacation there so much, it makes it easy for her to join. She prefers being inside most of the day because of the heat! I love that you take Petey everywhere. It really is, they are members of the family!
YOU ARE BACK! I am so happy and enjoy those amazing endorphins. Happy Thursday, Tracy!

Your relationship with your brother makes me smile so much :). Older brothers are just the best!! My brother called me the other night and he made me laugh so hard. My sister-in-law calls us the “chuckleheads.” I am so grateful that God gave us those brothers!!

I have all the silver hair! Best decision I ever made was to let it grow out during the pandemic. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn’t have spent all those years covering it. Embrace it—you’re beautiful!!

Thank you and I love that so so much!!! Hope you have a great Thursday, Jen!

I totally agree! Love the big brother bond and ‘chuckleheads’ hahah! I love that so much! Hope your morning is off to a beautiful start, Clare!

Good morning, Janae!! A Tesla – FUN!!! It’s great that you all head to St. George so often – love that you’re getting more of your family members moving there :o)
I started getting grey hair at 38. I colored it for years, but the pandemic inspired me to just go natural. Now, depending on my mood, I refer to my hair color as Pandemic Grey or COVID silver LOL.
My favorite surface to run on is trail, followed closely by track. I rarely get to run on a track, so I forget how springy it is and how fast it can help you feel (sometimes!).
My very first road race was a 5k and the first mile was uphill – and not a gradual, low grade uphill either. I should have guessed something was up since it was called the Monster 5k!!
My dream car is a 1969 Jaguar Roadster…a girl can dream!! Have an awesome day, Janae!

The goal is to someday have a culdesac for us to all live on in St. George:) Hahaha I LOVE both names:). Haha I think I will avoid the Monster 5k, that sounds so hard! Thanks Janine, have a beautiful day!

St. George looks so amazing! And so does that brownie ha

I started getting grey hairs when I was pregnant with my first baby! I was 25, and just keep getting more and more!

I love running on the trails around here, they’re all really soft (but sooo full of roots!)

My dream car is the new Wagoneer! But right now we are very much a minivan family and I do love my minivan

Have a wonderful Thursday!

That is so interesting that pregnancy brought your first grey hairs. My OBGYN told me that her entire head of hair starting growing in a different color during her pregnancy?! The things these babies do to us! Just looked up a wagoneer and I hope you get one someday, I love it. Thanks Meghan, go get a brownie today!

I don’t get grey hairs, I get white hairs. My natural color is red and I don’t have very many white hairs, yet (I am 45). I don’t think I got my first white hair until my late thirties.

I love to run on trails, and I enjoy the changes, to the trail, that each season brings.

Never done a road race that started uphill

My dream car is an Audi A8. Looks like a James Bond car to me.

Reply

I bet your red hair is so gorgeous! I guess a lot of my hairs are white too… interesting. I hope you get that Audi A8 someday! Have a beautiful day, Megan!

I was 23 when I first started getting my grey hairs. 10 years on, and I’m still not happy about it, but I’m allergic to most hair dye so I’m TRYING to be ok with it! Love how tan you all look after your week in St. G! I need to go get some sun.

Reply

We probably got in a little bit too much sun! It’s so interesting how different we all are with grey hairs, I bet you rock them! Hope your day is off to a great start, Tess!

Another fun little trip for you guys! Bummer about the traffic though.
I do the same thing when I’m running on the roads. Not so much in the grass, but definitely on gravel, on and off the curbs. I should probably do it more.
I just started to get gray hairs only a few years ago, and I’m feeling ok about it. The gray hairs are on the white side, so they actually blend in pretty good with my blonde hair, ha. It’s funny, and a little annoying, that their texture is a little different, courser… Aging is weird sometimes.
Tonight is graduation!! We are all so excited! A little emotional, but excited ?
Have a good day Janae!

I cannot complain about traffic compared to California! It really does help so much to vary up our surfaces. I was totally thinking the same thing, I don’t like that the texture is different either. It also is super wavy and the rest of my hair isn’t ha. GRADUATION! Oh this is so exciting. Happy tears and sad tears, I’m sure! Thinking about you, Wendy!

No joke, on my 30th birthday I looked in the mirror and saw my first grey hair!

Didn’t Steve Martin go completely grey in his 20s? Guess it’s all in how you rock it. :)

Reply

Haha that is crazy that it popped up for a little 30th birthday present:). That is SO true! Hope your morning is off to a great start, Erin!

My dream car is one that doesn’t have a car payment.
And my favorite surface is any flat surface. <— Midwest runner
Also-is anyone recording your talk at the expo??

Reply

I’m so with you on the lack of a car payment dream haha! That is a great idea, I’ll ask Andrew to film it! I hope your day is off to a great start, Molly!

I think I got my first white hair at 22. That was it for years. Now I have quite a few (but I’m almost 49).

I ran the Take 5 in the Garden 5k (Garden of the Gods in COS) and it started on a big uphill. And it was at altitude! (I’m from Florida). I made about 1 minute running up it and had to walk hahaha But I didn’t do as bad as I thought I would have. I once ran in SLC and was winded after a block. I’ll take the humidity over altitude. :)

My favorite running surface is one with a water view. I usually just run on sidewalks.

Hi to your brother (I’ve mentioned I work at SWA too).

Reply

Altitude AND a big uphill at the beginning, that sounds miserable. I’ll help you with altitude but will you PLEASE help me with humidity?! Amen to the water view… it’s a must. I’ll tell my brother you said hi, I LOVE that you are with SWA too. Such an amazing company.

Until I ran in Dallas, I never understood how you were able to tolerate staying in your running clothes after a run lol I’m soaked after a run. Mostly I wear Brooks or InknBurn (RIP) shorts and just a sports bra. I do have 1 open back tank top I wear occasionally.

That uphill start was a little mean but it was a loop so we ended on the downhill. But this 5k and the Cherry Blossom 5k in DC are the best non ocean runs.

Hope you had a great day!

Hi Janae! I totally agree with you about the track! When I went to Eugene there were lots of wood chop trails too and those are supposed to be really good for you but I kept getting little pieces of wood chips stuck in my socks!
I am home too now! Feels great to be home. Have an awesome day!

Reply

I don’t think I have ever tried running on wood chips, that is interesting and I can see how annoying that would be to get them stuck in your socks. Enjoy your bed, I sleep so much better at home! Thanks Amy, you too!

I have more and more gray especially after my sons school was on lockdown I could tell they just all pop up. I love the L’Oréal spray and I spray them away! lol I don’t have highlighted hair but it works wonders in between colors.

Reply

So many people say they aren’t related to stress but they 100% are in my opinion! I need more info on the lockdown and the spray!

Reply

I started getting grays at about 30. I dye my own roots about every 4-6 weeks and it works.

I love running on hard-packed sand/dirt.

I would like to eventually own a Tesla. I currently drive a hybrid Accord and I love it.

Reply

I love that you dye your own roots, that is so so smart! HOW DO YOU RUN ON SAND?! Even hard-packed is so hard for me ha. I hope you get that Tesla one day. Have a beautiful day!

I got my first gray hair at 18 and started coloring at 22. I finally quit during lockdown (at 51) and never looked back. Most days I am happy with that decision, but some days I still wonder who that old lady is in the mirror! I’m so glad your plantar is healed so nicely. I’m currently battling it and doing all the things to try and fix it. As a teacher I need to run to burn off all the crazy these days. Good luck on your race this weekend!

Reply

Tracie! Ugggg I hate that you are dealing with plantar. It is the worst pain. You absolutely need running more than all of us. Keep me updated and I think you made the best decision. Thanks Tracie, have a great day!

We got a tesla earlier this year as well and it always shocks everyone how quick they can accelerate with being an electric car. Super nice lately though with gas prices through the roof.

I started getting my gray hairs shortly after my first child at 30. I’ve never died my hair as I just can’t commit to the maintenance, so I’m trying to just embrace them!

Our town has a 7 mile run every year with an out and back course. The first thing you do is run up a 9% incline for about a third of a mile.. it’s a killer hill. But then then next 3 miles are downhill… until you have to turn around and run back up the hill :)

am seriously disappointed, the word is that Lululemon has decided that the SeaWheeze Half Marathon which has been my go to to Vancouver for 10 years, will no longer run….my head exploded, and I’m sure I’m not the only one that had that sad reaction.
I love off road, even if t’s for a few meters, it’s just way more fun…and I hate straight roads, trails always mean you have very few yards of straight, or flat…..the Vancouver half and full marathon both start with a little but of a up hill…what’s worse is there’s a race here in Edmonton, a 15K that starts with a huge down hill, but, um, that’s what you have to run up towards the finish line about 14Ks later

I have whites and greys and I do a root touch up about every six weeks. It only takes a few minutes and I can do it myself.
