Tangents + Why I am okay setting out for something crazy….

(Top, shorts, shoes)

It is spring break over here which meant we could get my niece to come over in the morning and go for a run/bike date.  Our second date was a trail run near this trail and we better keep up these types of dates until we are 90.

9.2 miles @ 9:12 average with 800 ft of climbing.  This will be my last trail run before the marathon which means it’s getting close.

So much green!

I assigned the girls to be in charge of dinner last night so they had the carts and they chose everything out.

Whenever Skye is controlling a shopping cart, I become quite aware of my ankles during the entire experience.

The finished product—> caesar salad, breadsticks, fruit & outside-in stuffed gnocchi.  They cooked the gnocchi in the air fryer after putting a bit of olive oil on them and then added parmesan and dried parsley once it was finished.  They taste like a fancy version of pizza bites which meant we all loved it.

Let’s get chatting about some tangents!

*School has started again for Andrew which means he is spending 2 hours every day studying. He cannot wait to be done with school…

IMG 6106

*I always love seeing the Brooks Boston shoes each year!

*A boy and his dog.

*I forgot to mention how we ate the cake that the kids made over the weekend.  Any fans of the show, ‘Is it Cake’ on Netflix?  We watched the entire season and tried to reenact the part where the judges have to guess which item was actually cake;).

IMG 5935

*I’ve decided that I’m going to try something crazy at Boston.  If the weather is right and my body is feeling good, I’m going to go out and hang on with my friend Lauren.  She is definitely going to be running a sub 3 and that sounds really fun for me.  Here’s the thing… I know I’m not quite in the shape that I used to be in when I was running sub 3’s but I think I’m getting close.  I think the thing that is going to make the difference is that I’ve learned over the last few years how to better cope with the pain and trick myself into thinking I’m in better shape than I am;).  I’m just going to do my best to convince myself that 6:49s are what my body is prepared to run.

IMG 9274

So here’s to the chance of flying and dying but this new plan is really exciting to me and my new coach (ha, my friend that is writing up my workouts/training ((he ran a 2:32 at Boston last October)) thinks I can do it so why not try?

PS my RRCA book thinks I can do it even though race predictor charts have never really been accurate for me;). I ran a 37:48 10k on Saturday:

Have any tangents to share?!?

Who else is in school right now? Give us the details!

Are race predictors accurate for you?

-My Garmin has zero faith in my new goal at Boston with it’s race predictions;)

I wish I had someone who I could give dinner responsibilities too! That sounds so nice and they picked a great meal. Love that idea for Boston! You’ll rock the race Janae!

Today’s workout was an upper body lift with shoulder and back focus, 3 minutes of core for a free April core challenge I’m doing and then a 20 minute walk!

Reply

You are invited over anytime the girls make dinner:). Thank you, Maureen! Awesome workout today and I love that you are doing an April core challenge. Cheering you on!

Not in school now, but I was in undergrad–> grad school–> dental school, so I totally feel Andrew’s desire to be D O N E. Almost there!!!

Reply

WOW. That is so much schooling and I am so happy you are done! We are going to have to do something big for when Andrew graduates:). Hope your day is a great one, Courtney!

Reply

You CAN do it!!!

Reply

Thank you Cheryl, that means a lot! I hope you are having a beautiful morning!

That is a great idea to have the kids pick out supper! I think my kid have a good enough balance of what they like so we would have only one kid that would pick out chocolate;-). That is too funny about the cart and the ankles. I can still remember the look my mom would give us when we ran into her.

Oh how exciting to have a new goal! YOU CAN DO IT! Your friend will be so happy to have someone to run with too!

Although I have only had my Garmin for 2 months–it has way to much confidence in me for race paces! I laugh every time I look at my predicted paces…although then I question how fast could I race, if I had a little more confidence. I just can’t seem to get it together on race days…my training runs are always faster than my race for both half and fulls.

I ran 8 miles in crazy wind and still managed to stay at what I hope could be my marathon pace, but again my training is always faster than my actual marathon pace.

Have a fabulous Tuesday Janae!

Haha there is no pain quite like a shopping part to the ankles;) I think your chocolate child is my favorite haha! Thank you, we are so excited to go for this together! I believe your Garmin for YOU! I think this training cycle is going to be the perfect one for you and I can’t wait to hear all about it. Way to go on those 8 miles in the wind and MP! Thanks Becky, hope your day is great too!

OMG! YESSS. Why not take chances and go crush it? Cannot wait to watch you race! AND how about Ali being the finish line announcer? Loving that so much. Have a beautiful day! :)

Reply

RIGHT? Can you even handle that? Ali, is something else! Thank you so much… it makes my heart beat fast so that is how I know it is the right goal! I hope your day is a great one too, thanks Avery!

Rooting for you in Boston and always! Thank you for the reminder to not be afraid of setting big goals!

I have three weeks left of law school so can reaaaaally relate to Andrew’s wanting to be done!! My graduation countdown has been going for months :)

Reply

THREE WEEKS! Oh my goodness, I am so happy for you and so amazed by this accomplishment. So so happy for you and thank you, friend!

Reply

Great goal! My mind is usually what limits me from trying something, so I love that you are going for it! After all, it’s just running – nothing bad will happen if you don’t reach your goal. But if you do reach your goal, you’ll be unstoppable!

Any dinner that is made by someone else is a good dinner haha.

Reply

Thank you so much, Christine! I totally agree with you… what’s the worst could happen and the best that could happen would be amazing. Food made by others always tastes so much better. Happy Tuesday, Christine!

Did anyone pick the fox on the right? Could have fooled me that it was red velvet. ?
Good luck with the Boston goal. You could be the next Sarah Sellers, so why not?

Reply

Hahah I definitely picked that fox;). Oh my goodness hahaha about Sarah and definitely hoping the weather will be better than it was for her;). Hope your day is a fabulous one, Molly!

I have exciting tangents to share today- we got an offer accepted on a house (and are closing in just 2 weeks..EEK we’re crazy). It’s right by a beautiful park and greenways where we love to run and bike so I’m sooo excited to have miles of trails from my front door! Truly the dream for us :) And my second is that I got a job offer yesterday! Same company but a big step up for me and I’m nervous but also excited for that!!

I can’t wait to see how you do in Boston! Going for a big goal like that is so hard but it’s so mental! You know you have hit those numbers before so your body can do it :) Can’t wait to cheer you on!

Reply

GRETCHEN! I am SO so so happy for you! This house sounds absolutely perfect and you also got the new job?! You are on FIRE. I really am so happy for you, keep me updated on it all. Thank you, I am so excited!

Reply

I love that the girls decided what to make for dinner. I bet they loved it too. And such a good choice.
You are going to ROCK Boston! Good for you for having a big goal. It will be fun to see how amazing you do.
Heading out for an hour or so run, then some strength and core. I have another simple low key day, which makes me very happy since most of this month is crazy!
Have a good day Janae ?

Reply

I am SO glad you have a day that is low-key to get you ready for the rest of the crazy month ha. Thank you so much and I hope your hip flexor was so happy for your hour run. Thanks, Wendy!

Reply

of course you can go sub 3…….I’m currently trying to get a fellow runner to her first half marathon in under 50 days…she’s run a lot of 5Ks?……yeah, this is going to be crazy

Reply

Thank you, Warren! And that is awesome, you will have to keep me updated with how she is doing! Have a great day!

Tangent: We started watching this series called Severance. Woah, it is something. I cannot tell if I am scared while I am watching it, thrilled, intrigued,or what.

Love reading your Boston journey.

Reply

Well, thank you for my new tv show to binge. I cannot wait! Thank you Erica, you are just the best. Hope you are having a great morning!

Reply

I love this goal for you!! Cannot wait to vicariously run Boston through you. :-)

Reply

Thank you much Mary! I hope your day is a beautiful one!

Reply

I’m so impressed your girls chose that meal and made it! My kids would have picked hotdogs or chicken nuggets and chips. ?

Reply

Hahah I’m sure if Knox was with us it would have been a bit different;). Happy Tuesday, Mary!

This makes me so excited for you!! The workouts you’ve been posting lately have been FIRE. Seriously looks like you’ve got some speed in your legs for sure! Can’t wait to see what you pull off in Boston!

Side note- I had my fourth baby 8 months ago and it’s been the slowest return to fitness so far for me. It’s inspiring to me to see moms like you out there crushing it. Did you feel a difference after each pregnancy with how long it took to feel like yourself? I’m hopeful one day I’ll get some speed back in my legs too ?

Reply

Thank you, excited to see how it all goes! Congrats on baby number FOUR! I 1000% have noticed it taking longer with each one for me to get back into running… After Brooke I ran a fast half-marathon 7 weeks after I had her, after Skye I ran a sub 3 at 10 months postpartum and now with Beck he will be 1.5 years old when I run my first marathon back! You are doing amazing but it really does get harder and take longer with each one. Cheering for you and I really hope you are getting some sleep!

Reply

I just want to say that it makes me emotional to see you at the tail end of your Boston prep and doing all this work and setting huge goals for yourself. I’ve been reading since before Brooke was born and you have always, always been a huge inspiration to me. I hope you CRUSH it in Boston and I hope you know how much it helps me to see you always going after it and working on yourself.

I am so excited for you and Boston and cannot wait to read more! Also, reading this has encouraged me to finally get out the door to go for a run (procrastinating here…lol)
I tried to turn on the the cake show on Netflix, however, my 4 year old prefers just cake decorating on youtube :/ . It is quite relaxing!

Reply

THANK YOU JEN! I hope your run was a beautiful one and I’m so glad you got out. Hahah well now we must try the cake decorating on Youtube! Have a beautiful day!

Hi Janae,

Good luck in Boston ….you will achieve what you believe. Plus you have Magic shoes – they have been so good to me in my races, I just love them. Here is a tangent..I’m meeting my sister for vacation next week in Heber City and would like to take her to a special dinner or lunch. Any recommendations? We like everything from inexpensive casual to casual. Thank you in advance for your recommendations. Excited to explore your great state.

Reply

Thank you so much, Veronica. I loved this–> ‘you will achieve what you believe.’ And SO good to hear about you loving the magic shoes, I couldn’t believe how fast they felt. I am so happy you will be here for vacation, I am so jealous of your sister living in Heber, I tell Andrew I want to retire there. The Corner is our favorite in Midway (right next to Heber). The desserts are unreal! Please let me know what you think!

Reply

I LOVE this goal for you, it has very Keira D’Amato vibes. I mean why not go for it?? Also, the girls dinner looks delish, I’m impressed with their menu planning!

Reply

Thank you so much, Michelle. I agree, why not?! I just told the girls what you said and they smiled:). Enjoy your evening!
