Started off the morning with some church stuff with the SIL.
Please tell me that we actually look like real sisters. PS she is due in just 4 more weeks.
Her favorite donut shop just happened to be down the street from where we were so we popped in for a quick dozen.
A look of joy that only a box of donuts can bring you.
FYI we learned the hard way this morning that it is not fun to clean donuts off of a carseat.
When we got home it was about 10 a.m.and I had a 45 minute run on the schedule. There was no way I was going to get up and run at 4 in the morning to fit it in before we left so running in 97 degrees was my only option.
5.3 miles in 45 minutes which was around an 8:30 average pace.
I actually don’t think I have ever ran in 90 degree weather before so it was definitely a hard run for me. Throughout the run I kept repeating my new mantra: ‘I CAN do hard things.’ We just have to train those brains of ours to look at hard runs as a challenge to take head on rather than thinking they are something that we can’t possibly do. We are capable of so much more than we think and we have proven it to ourselves in the past that we can do hard things so you know you can do it again.
I came home and my face was the same color as my shirt and for some reason my left eye didn’t want to open all of the way.
Brooke is showing you her art work that she is very proud of.
Pool directly after a hot run…. living the dream.
In California I had a Chipotle 1 mile away from my apartment and in Utah it is about 30 minutes away so I have to take advantage of the one near my SIL’s house as much as possible before I go back to Utah.
And now it is time for my apple fritter (I made at least one really good decision today and I didn’t eat my donut right before I ran…I am learning).

What is the hottest temperature you have ever ran in? What time is the earliest that you have ever gone for a run?
What is your chipotle order?
Anyone have a September birthday? What day!?

Well I live in Texas soooo…I thought my 93 degree run last night felt cooler than the normal 100 degree temps that I run in. ;-) As for Chipotle…I either go with the burrito bowl (black beans, rice, veggies, salsa, quac, cheese) or the three soft tacos with the same ingredients minus the rice.
Dammit, now I want chipotle.
Alaina @ MerryMarathoner
I live in Vegas, so I have running some pretty hot weather. I’m dedicated to never ever starting a run when the temp is already over 100. This means that for much of the summer, I either have to get up at 5 or use a treadmill (I’m largely unsuccessful at getting up before 6).
I have been known to get up for open water swimming at 5:30 though.
Lauren @ Love Is The Point
We don’t have donut shops in my town! I want to “pop in for a quick dozen!” We also don’t have Chipotle for at least an hour. I hope you don’t mind that I am living my dream food life through reading your blog.
Taylor @ Single-tracked Mind
I live in SF where it never gets too hot…except this weekend is supposed to be 80. I run before 6am anyway.
Chipotle order: burrito bowl with brown rice, black beans, veggies, guac, pico, corn salsa, medium salsa, and lettuce.
Jen @ milesandblessings
Hottest temp is probably rigt about 100. I think abou4:30 is the earliest I have gotten up to run. Right now I run at about 6:30…much better than 4:30 :)
My sister has a birthday today!!!
Good thing she ate that donut before she her church clothes on :)…
Michelle @ 3cheaprunners
The hottest would be running on vacation in Mexico…where it is always a bazillion degrees…but you can’t beat the view!
Ashley
My birthday is today! Party! I’ve been reading your blog for some time and love it. So I decided I should finally comment on a post. I was so sad to read about all the tough things you’re going through. Hang in there. Also, is that the Gilbert temple? I went to a friend’s wedding there and it looks just like it. Anyways, your daughter is the cutest. Seriously. When I found your blog I had to show my sister and friend how cute Brooke is. You’re awesome, and I look up to your running skills!
Cindi B
I currently live 6 1/2 hours away from the closest Chipotle and it’s KILLING MEEEE!!! I am in love with the burrito bowl and typically order barbacoa with extra hot salsa; but, I tasted the carnitas on my kids’ tacos the last time we went there and I might just have to switch to carnitas! Oh, their chips and guac are purely addictive bliss. Mmmmm………
Jen @ milesandblessings
…or was it after church…not sure but at least she wasn’t in a church dress with that chocolate :)!
Lindsay
I love that mantra, I think it is applicable to so many things! I’m totally going to start using it.
Corinne
I did the run portion of an Olympic distance triathlon in Muncie last year when the heat index was over 100 degrrees. It was brutal but we were supposed to do half ironman and the organizers made the wise decision to reduce the distance, pretty sure I would have died or melted. Lately in order to get our longer midweek run we start a 4:45am!
Amanda
Steak bowl with brown rice, pinto beans, cheese, extra lettuce, light sour cream, and TONS of the chipotle Tabasco. I also get just one of the taco-sized tortillas on the side.
Ok, now I have to get chipotle for dinner.
Caitlin @ RunMimsie
Those donuts look AMAZING…SO DOES THE CHIPOTLE!!! AHHH! And Here I am stuck at work! *Facepalm* I hope that apple Fritter was as good as it sounds!
Leah @ Running with the Hayneses
My husband’s birthday is this month! It’s the 20th.
Last summer when I visited my sister in Minnesota, they were having a heat wave and it was in the high 90’s/low 100’s every day. I definitely did a few runs that were around 95 degrees, but I kept them slow and short.
Miranda @ Miranda Runs
That’s so great that you can go jump in a pool right after a crazy hot run! It’s been hot in Bozeman lately too. Mid 80s- low 90s most days. Soaking up the heat now before it drops into the negative numbers ;)
Angela
It needs to be freezing for me to run happy so I think 80 is my max. No chipotle for me, all of their food gives my gf/df tummy a terrible ache. But I LOVE September because my family has five birthdays this month (mine is the 12th) and one wedding (mine on the 29th :D).
Megan D
I haven’t had Chipotle since I was DC (that was my first time having it and I think I had it 3x that week) and that was in March so I think we need to schedule a date there when you get back! I get the salad with beans, chicken, grilled veggies, quac (pile that shiz on!!) and pico. Mmmmm.
I am glad you survived your run. When I saw your tweet I was a little worried there. I ran once at 11am in July here in Utah – it was already 90 degrees – needless to say I only made it 3 miles and have never done it again. I have run at 5am numerous times, but prefer the 6am hour. Unless you count relays, I don’t think I have ran before 5am??
I love the Mesa temple – Ross and I did a session there when we were first married. I also love the pic of your niece with the donut in her car seat. Only because I didn’t have to clean the mess, otherwise….
And you CAN do hard things! You are amazing! Love you!
Vikki
Veggie burrito bowl with black beans, veggies, all 3 salsas, lettuce and guac. The closest one to me at school is an hour away so my heart (and stomach) are aching for some right now!
morgan
wow- Brooke’s hair is getting long! Love how happy she looks in the pool. You and your SIL are so cute- she looks fantastic for 8 months pregnant.
The earliest I’ve gone runnning was 4:30 am.. lately I’ve been running super early because of a change in my schedule so it’s always dark out when I go.. a little scary haha. And the hottest would have to be upper 90’s back in high school when we had track practice after school in the blazing sun.. you did great for such a hot run btw!
And don’t hate me.. but I don’t like chipotle..
Katie
I dont think I’ve run any earlier than 6:00 AM, but someday I might have to! The hottest I’ve run in was 99 degrees with like a million percent humidity. Not fun!
Katie
We just found out a Chipotle is opening up literally right down the street from our house, and I am soooooo excited!!! I always get a chicken burrito bowl with brown rice, black beans, medium green salsa, corn salsa, pico de gallo, extra lettuce. The bestttt. That pool picture of Brooke makes me want to swim like nobody’s business right now. The water looks so pretty!
xo
Floey
Seriously…this weather. It’s been in the upper 90s in So. Cali for the past few weeks :/
april
you ran in the AZ heat?! i can’t imagine running outside right now (it’s in the high 90’s here in so cal). you’re such a rockstar! =) thank God you had a pool to cool off in!
eep
I ran in 93 degree heat this summer for a marathon relay. It was the first really hot day we had and I was not used to it yet. I thought I was going to throw up!
I .ove Chipotle like nobodies business. I get a salad with chicken, fajita vegetables, corn salsa, and guac. No need for the salad dressing with the glorious guac.
I do have a birthday in September! It’s the 12th.
eep
Oh, and I run twice a week with a friend at 5:15 am. I think that’s the earliest I have gotten up to run, not counting races.
ChristineB
The hottest temp I’ve ever run in is about 32 – Celsius. Whenever I run on a work day it’s always before 6am (and therefore rarely super hot). I never thought I’d get up that early to do anything, but for running, I do. I’ve never been to Chipotle, but it looks so yummy! 3/5 of my family would totally love it. However, in Canada we DO have Tim Horton’s, which has yummy doughnuts.
And I think you & your sil definitely look like ‘real’ sisters. In the first picture on this post, for sure.
Laurin @ Be Well Body
That’s a great mantra! Hang in there – the hard times never last. I always get a burrito bowl or a salad at chipotle but my SIL gets a burrito bowl with a burrito shell on the side…she’s a genius – you get almost twice as much stuffing for your burrito for the same price! :)
Emily @ Running for Boston
The hottest temp I have ever run in was probably 105 – I was in Tanzania and started getting goosebumps and chills on my arm. I stopped my run and just walked home. I’m not a fan of running in the heat – I’ve been getting a lot of treadmill tempo runs.
I can’t wait to run in the cold again….
Jackie
That chipotle looks awesome. Love that place!
Courtney
Well I guess I’ll thank my lucky stars that chipotle is 5 min away from me in Sugarhouse :) Barbacoa Salad come to mama.
michelle kim
Chipotle order is a burrito bowl with white rice, little bit of black beans, chicken, corn salsa, medium salsa, little bit of cheese, and lettuce… and then I get three corn tortillas on the side (I like corn tortillas better than the flour ones).
Jen
Hottest temp I’ve ran in is in the upper 80’s plus the extreme humidity of the east coast. I am very much looking forward to 50-60 degree runs with less humidity! Earliest I’ve ever ran is 5:00 A.M.
My Chipotle order is the salad with either chicken or pork, no cheese or beans, extra fajita veggies, hot salsa and guac! I usually add my own hot sauce and 2% plain greek yogurt in place of sour cream.
My half bday is this month, if that counts? ;-)
Amy @ Long Drive Journey
I usually try to run when it’s lower than 85 outside. Hotter than that and the heat slows me down and makes me cranky, plus I feel like death after. That being said, I’ve only ever run in hot, HUMID heat. Running in 95 degree weather in Louisiana will (can) send you to the hospital.
I don’t like Chipotle! Actually, to go even farther and knock your socks off, I don’t like MEXICAN at all. Gasp!
Love apple fritters though! I haven’t had one in years!
Danielle
The hottest was 100.4 at 9am. Ouch! The earliest is 5am. That’s a weekly occurance.
I’m September!!!!!! I’ll be 30 the 18th! And baby girls 1st birthday was Sunday the 1st.
At chipotle: chicken burrito- black beans, white rice, lettuce, hot salsa, extra cheese, chips and guac on the side.
Jessica R @ FromtheKitchentotheRoad
I used to run at 4:30am. Thankfully my hours changed and I can sleep in a whole 30 minutes. The hottest I’ve ran in was 96. That was before I obsessively checked the weather. I’m guessing the feels like temp was much higher since it is so humid here.
Chels
I’m not going to even start talking about TX summer running because I’m sure the other commenters will do that for me ;-) I haven’t been to Chipotle in quite some time (they’re everywhere around here) but I do love their cilantro lime rice!
shelly
I’ve run in 102 degrees in CA. It was so hard with lots of water/walk breaks. But, I did the miles I needed to.
Megan
When I was in high school, I used to run in the middle of the afternoon in the Texas summer heat. I don’t really know what I was thinking. Now I try to go early in the morning or after work. Last week it was 101 at the start of my run at 7 p.m. So it’s sort of a lose-lose in Texas.
Robert
Amen sister!
I got up 5am for a couple runs this past week. And I went at about 845 last night–97*.
Megan
This is when I wish I owned a treadmill! Ha. I am actually headed out for a run around in 30 minutes and it’s currently 100. I’m going to keep repeating “I can do hard things” the entire run.
Aleksandra
I run in above 100F while living in Dubai… And that was in September and in the evening – I was hoping it will be OK to run but was wrong. May through September there should definitely be reserved for treadmill inside with AC. Earliest I ran was around 5:50am after getting up at 5:30 – the thing that got me out of bed was the fact that I was on 1-night business trip in Stockholm and was staying right by Royal Park so I was highly motivated to see something else than the office!
No Chipotle here in Ireland, but we have a few similar concepts – the closest to work is called Tolteca, and my order is chicken brown rice bowl with fajita veggies, pico de gallo, spicy salsa, guac and lettuce.
That was awfully detailed of me. And you do look like sisters!
Naomi M
The earliest I have ever gone for a run is 4:30 in the morning…although I have woken up earlier for races (I think we’ve all been there). Since I grew up in AZ there were definitely a lot of runs in 100+ degree weather. Just imagine PE outside during the hot months!
Chipotle=giant burrito. Haven’t been in a while..thanks for the reminder to go!
I was married in the Mesa Temple :)
Robert
I ran last night in 97*, and it sucked. I couldn’t see by the end because the sweat was running in my eyes faster than I could blink.
It sucked so badly, I might just do it again tonight… :-D
“I can do hard things!”
I like it.
Keri
I’m guessing you went to bosas!!!!!! The apple fritter is the bomb, now I’m going to have to go get one now!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Yes! Seriously heaven!!! Come to froyo tonight!
Keri
I wish I could have! I had dance classes to teach this time. Hopefully next time.
Meegan
YUM! I am just about to finish work and Chipotle sounds amazing! I always get the Barbacoa pork! It is so delicious, that anything without it seems boring. It is usually in burrito form or 3 soft tacos, which I tried recently and loved!
Erica
104 Vegas one July .
2:30 am. Don’t ask.
Britt
4am run.. Mixed up my times when I was living in Australia.. Didn’t put together that when the US has daylight savings .. Australia does not.
Chipotle is a problem. I now have to go in every state I visit.. When I travel with my Mom it’s our thing– yes I am out of school and a working professional haha but my Mom is my bf4l.. We legit take a picture of the front. The staff at Chipotle now draw pics on my to go containers. Usually get just a bowl of rice and beans with chips…aka make your own nachos while watching all your realty 9pm shows.
I was in Arizona last weekend visiting family and had to go to their Chipotle– I’m from the East Coast.
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More
What is the hottest temperature you have ever ran in? High nineties. My first 5K. I had trained only in early morning runs. Very poor planning on my part. I really thought I might die.
What time is the earliest that you have ever gone for a run? Probably around 5:30 AM. I don’t run in the dark.
What is your chipotle order? Love that place! So glad I have one 10 minutes away instead of 3 hours away like in Oregon. I always get a veggie bowl, brown rice, black beans, corn salsa, sour cream, cheese, guacamole and lettuce. And chips and guac. Yum!! I probably have it at least once a week now and I’m okay with that.
Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes
I have gone at 4 am before… not fun! Hottest temp I couldn’t tell you. Probably 110 or so in TX! Praying for your SIL! Babies are so fun :-)
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I ran in the 90s most of the summer…at 6 am. I’m used to running in 80ish degrees now. Sometimes mid-80s if i run during the day. I get a veggie burrito bowl with lots of guac and lettuc. YUM! they just opened one up near my house so I’ve been frequenting at least once every couple of weeks. I have a July birthday, but Payless sent me a coupon on Sept 1 that said “Happy birthday, Rachel! Enjoy 25% off this entire month” so I’m pretending.
Kristen @Margarita Runner
Yes! Today is my birthday! Yay for 25 years!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Ahhhh happy birthday!!!! Have the best day ever!

I can’t imagine running in today’s heat. I went out for an 8 mile bike ride this morning in the foothills east of Phoenix. The uphills were killer but coming back down was amazing.
It’s my birthday on Saturday!
See you tonight for froyo! :)
Kelly
Still praying for you a lot…..I’m so proud of your attitude. You are so blessed to have wonderful friends and family. You can do hard stuff, girl.
Blessings,
Kelly in Michigan
Danica @ It's Progression
I’m not a donut fan, but I’ve eaten too many pancakes before a run once and that was far from fun!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs
Your posts always make me hungry — so much delicious food! :)
Amy @ Run Mom Run
I can do hard things is such a great mantra. It was the theme of our run for virtue this year (we had 1,000 girls, 9 stakes, and Elaine Dalton! It was amazing.) I love it.
I had chipoltle yesterday and every time I have it it just makes me miss Cafe Rio. It’s not the same.
Donna
Live in Fresno……so I run in the heat all the time. Today it’s 97 and get to run at 5pm! I’ll be thinking of you. I love Chipolte!! In fact, had lunch there today, salad with chicken, lots of salsa, fajita veggies and guacamole. It’s walking distance from my office so I eat there like 3 times a week!!! My birthday is the 21st of this month!!!
Macy
Great run! Im jealous.
I actually dont care for chipotle. Im more of a qdoba girl…now I want taco salad!
Tomorrow is actually my Moms birthday. She passed away last year and I still miss her everyday :( Wonder if it would be weird of me to eat cake tomorrow anyway.
Katie @ thepoolto26.2
I wanted to thank you for this post… it really hit home for me. I might have to borrow your mantra of “I can do hard things” not just for running, but for whatever life throws at me. My mantra has been “I am resilient. I can do this.”
The hottest run I have ever done was in 98-99 degree weather a couple weeks ago. Since then I have learned my lesson and gotten up earlier. The earliest I have ever woken up for a workout is 4:30 am (I was a competitive swimmer all through middle school, high school, and college… jumping into a freezing pool that early in the morning is kinda lame!)
I love Chipotle! I always get the vegetarian burrito. Yummy! I might just have to go there for dinner :)
Anne @ CandyCrazedrun.wordpress.com
Now that’s a mantra! My run today should NOT have been as hard as it was but my body wasn’t in the mood and my mind couldn’t focus. I kept telling myself it was more of a mental training run just to finish than a tempo run!
I am right with ya on the heat. Despite being Florida born and bred, 40 degrees is my sweet spot!
HilJo
Ohhhhhhhhhh man this year I ran in fresno in late July…it was HOT. I think it was 96 degrees? At least it was not humid! Running heat index of 104 was so not fun this summer.
Earliest Ive gotten up to run…probably 6. I am more of a night runner than morning runner for the most part, though Im trying to change over since I get off work at 5:30 and before too long it will be dark then.
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties
ahhh Brooke’s expression in that pool picture is the cutest ever!! I LOVE chipotle- i always get the burrito bowl because i’ve read research that says you get more stuff in a bowl than you would in a burrito!

I finished a marathon in 90 degree weather in MI in May. Totally a freaky warm day for May in MI.
My bday is coming soon, Sept. 19. Last year in my current decade!
Natalie @ Free Range Human
Believe it or not, I’ve never eaten at a Chipolte before!
Liz @ The Girl on Fire Now
The hottest weather I have ever run in is around 90-95
The earliest I have ever run is 6 :)
Your pace on hard runs is insane. Just saying. It is 30 seconds away from my goal pace (8)
Meaghan @Tale of Two Teachers
What a great mantra! I love that :) We CAN do hard things!!!
We don’t have Chipotle here :( But I’m making homemade pizza for dinner so I’m excited about that!!!

I’m feeling shouty today.
When I was training seriously I lived on the East Coast. I don’t remember specific temps but I do know there was one summer where it was over 90 for more than 30 days in a row (weather record). We still had 10 workouts a week some of which involved running. We can do really hard things, Janae. We really can shine amidst the crap.
September birthdays? HO boy…my oldest is the 3rd, my youngest stepdaughter is the 14th, my aunt the 15th, my SIL the 25th, my BIL and my dad the 11th, my fave cousin the 23rd…lots :)
Nicole @ Work in Sweats Mama
Aren’t Magna Doodles the best invention ever?! My girls love them. They’re awesome for long car rides and air travel! My daughter’s birthday is in 9 days…she’s turning 4. I can’t believe it!!
Laura
I can’t believe you ran in 97 degree heat!! I would be dying!! I’ve never gotten out the door before probably 5:30 or 6:00. I’m too lazy like that, lol.
I’m actually not a huge chipotle lover, I prefer real Mexican taquerias. But when I do go there it’s usually a pork or chicken salad bowl.
No bdays this month for my family. It’s one of only 3 months in the year that we have zero bdays.
That pool after the run sure looks heavenly!!
Colleen
Pool after a run is heaven!! I ran in 102 temps today with a heat index of 114!! My record is 105 temp. Yes, I melted. My bday is sept 13!!! Yep, Friday the 13 this year. The nearest Chipolte is 3 hours from me and I’ve only had it once!
Crissi @ runninggirlrn
I agree with the happy Donut face… I love some donuts too!
The hottest temp I have ran in would probably be 84 degrees last week! I was about to fall out!
Chipotle order: A burrito bowl with chicken, corn salsa, sour cream, extra cheese. Plus you must have the tortilla chips… Delicious!
Alyssa @ See This Girl Run
Wow way to go! I’m impressed. I’ve run in the mid 90s and it was miserable. Hot runs are the worssttt!
I like Chipotle. I made my sister go with me (she doesn’t like it) and she wasn’t convinced. I don’t know what’s wrong with her.
Holly @ Run With Holly
I do most of my running at about 80-90 degrees, with 70-90% humidity… At least the sun doesn’t bake down too strongly (there’s usually a bit of a haze).
Chipotle….my precious…. :) My order: Chicken burrito bowl, extra veggies (as long as the onions are cooked), corn & tomato salsas, lettuce, & cheese. Mmmm…….
Nikki @ grab your kicks
I’ve run in 90 degree heat which feels so much worse with WI humidity. Earliest I’ve ever run is 7am. I can’t just get up and run. I need a little prep time in the morning (food, coffee, etc). Apple fritter sounds really good right now. SUGAR!!
Missy
Wow great job girl! Running in 90 degree weather is not easy! I bow down! I completely agree with your mantra though, when I first started running I would bow out early on runs when I felt a little issue but now I push through to the end no matter what!
Lauren
I’ve gotten up at 4:30 to run and it was my earliest run. I think I was asleep half of the run. My chipotle order is vegetarian salad: black beans, veggies, mild and corn salsa, and EXTRA EXTRA guacamole! What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger!
Gracie (Complicated Day)
The hottest temp? You will not believe it. I went running mid-day one day in July a few years ago – it was the only time I could go with my crazy work schedule. I did 3 miles in the park and I came home positively ILL. I was dizzy, nauseated, and weak. I checked the weather and Audubon park actually is one of the weather reporting sites: it was 106 F in the park! It was a record for that day, and the heat index was something like 118. Insane!
megan
97 is the hottest temperature that I have ever ran in. I think I sweat out at least 5lbs during that run.
I recently gave up on Chipotle. I used to love it but now all I taste is those darn potent red onions that they put it everything!! Guac, corn salsa, pico ….ugh I can’t stand the taste.
BriAnne
Bosa! Love to hit up that place or DQ right after attending the temple. My faves are the pink ones with sprinkles…
The Hungry Runner Girl
Yes! I saw the dq too!

Our running group would meet at 5am during the summer but in July and August, even that time was too hot…so most of us bailed for a bit

I have never been to Chipotle! It makes me sad. Just add it to the rest of the list – Starbucks, Trader joes, any froyo place… I have nothing up here in the Upper Peninsula!

Hottest was around 87 (with a ridiculous amount of humidity)… The earliest I have ever run was around 5 AM but freaked myself out with the wildlife and eerie streetlights that I went back to running when the sun was up :P
My Chipotle order is usually a carnitas burrito bowl with chips… Delicious!
My baby brother turns 24 on the 23rd! I feel so old :P

Yuck, the hottest I’ve ever run in would probably be 95 degrees and humid. I cringe just thinking about it, but hey, you don’t get to pick your race conditions so it’s good to be prepared!

I’m a September baby… The 18th… Countdown is already on, even though my hubby’s birthday is before mine :)
The earliest… Maybe 6am and that was for a race. The hottest… In the 90s in Italy.

I’m another Texas runner so summer runs of 90+ are typical. Two summers ago it was so blazing hot that a few of my runs were in 100+. I generally wake up at 4:30 so I can run at 5 in a relatively cool 85. I just keep reminding myself how prepared I’m going to be to race in October because of my summer training.

I’m much more of a cold weather runner, I melt in the sun. I think we have the same sunglasses :) oakley commit?

We get Chipotle almost every Thursday night for dinner (Chipotle Thursday)! I always order a chicken bowl with everything except the hot sauces, ’cause I’m a wimp about foods being too spicy.
My husband and I had to run at 4:30 one Saturday morning so we could fit it in before his brother’s wedding! :-)

Hottest run was probably in Cancun, but then we hopped in the ocean :) And I totally ran in a swimsuit because there was no other sane way to do it.
I wake up M-F @ 4:15 to run. Blech!
I love the veggie salad at Chipotle. I’m curious to try their new tofu :)

The hottest temp I think was about 98, a very hard run, it was an after work run in the evening, but I live in Texas and it just doesn’t cool down at night. The earliest I have gone for a run is 5:30a.m.
My chipotle order is a vrggie bowl.
My birthday is September 29th.
Ashlee
I live in Texas and my bday is Sept 29 too! :)
Celeste @ Healthful Mind Body and Soul
I live in the DFW area, where are you? I hope you have something special planned for your special day. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Robyn
4.45 am is the earliest I’ve gone I think. I’ve only ever gotten up earlier to catch a plane! I’ve now joined a gym, so some of my morning runs ( like today) won’t be as early- will escape into the a/c
Michelle
I love you – so don’t take offense when I say — you are one of the crazy people!!
I always see people running on the way home from work or at lunch time and I can’t help but think, “what is wrong with them?” It is 100+ degrees, we live in Florida, and they are outside running. Could they not find a treadmill? And then I feel slightly jealous. And then I remember it’s 100 degrees. I think the hottest that I’ve run has been in the low 90s and even then it was only a few miles and it sucked the life out of me!
Therese
Okay I know that’s Dunkin. The best of all donuts. We don’t have that here. Chipotle isn’t too close to me but I LOVE it. My daughter turned 27 on the 1st.
Ash
The best is hopping straight into the pool with all your gear on :) I did that after a 6miler in 101 heat. I figured I was already drenched so who cared!!
Kara @ Kara in the Kitchen
So glad you got in the pool after that run! Good job chanting your mantra. I kept chanting, “The faster you run, the faster you’re done” to myself during my last run.
I ran in 110 heat advisory while nursing! Ahhhh if it weren’t a race I wouldn’t have done it…crazy.
Chipotle order is a burrito bowl with carnitas, black beans, cheese, mild salsa, and guac if I’m feeling rich :)
Cyanne (RunStretchGo)
I think 4:30 is my earliest run, and 11:30 PM is my latest night run.
Mmmm Chipotle. If we’re talking what I eat if I just don’t care about calories: chicken burrito with rice, peppers & onions, black beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, corn salsa, guacamole.
If I’m being good, turn that into a salad (no rice or tortilla) and scoop off half the guac.
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
I still haven’t been to chipotle! I ran 17 miles last Saturday in 95 degrees! I about died. Good training though right??
Linda @ running4two
I run during my lunch break at work and during the summer, Maryland gets pretty hot and humid and I have spent many afternoons pounding the pavement in very high temps and humidity. PS Humidity is the worse!
Nothing better than jumping in a pool to cool off after a run :).
And yes, you do look like real sisters!
Abbey @ thesonomalife
When I lived in Houston I went for too many hot runs! I’m sure they were at least in the mid 90’s, low 100’s. Mid-day happened, but it was a mistake!
I’ve been missing Chipotle here in Sonoma. I’m sure there’s one in Santa Rosa or a neighboring town, but it seems a little bit much to drive 30+ minutes for a burrito. Maybe not?? :) I could go for a gigantic veggie burrito with extra corn salsa.
P.S. have you ever had Freebirds? Burrito heaven.
Laura@ RunningJunkie
I used to be a crazy runner (not in a good way lol) because there are times when I would get up at 4 AM (or before, which is TERRIBLE) just to fit in double digits before I had to be to work, 45 minutes away, at 7:00 AM…..and I’ve ran in some really nasty heat. I don’t do it anymore though……85 degrees is my max.
Chipotle is SO good. My order is always the steak burritto bowl. All the veggies and salsa, black beans, brown rice and guac (which totally makes it).
Kari @ Running Ricig
A pool after a hot run really is living the dream! I’m jealous.
I think I once ran in 97 degrees, but I’m not sure it can be considered a run with the amount of walking I had to throw in there.
N.Scott
“I can do hard things” I LOVE that!

My birthday is on Saturday, the 7th!! Probably unlikely that the baby will be born that early though… But September birthdays are the best!!!
Shawna
Love that pic of Brooke in the pool – so precious!
I’ve definitely run in some near-100 degree weather — NYC can be brutal in July and we had some sweltering streaks this year that reached 100. I think 5:30am is probably the earliest I’ve ever run.
Tiffany
I stay away from any eating out, but if I do, at Chipolte it is typically soft taco with black beans, fajita peppers and lettuce. I run most days at 3:30 AM (I kick myself everytime I make the decision to not get up and have to run at lunch or after work)…that’s because I am a full-time working mom and I have to fit my gym workout in too, which I prefer to do in the evenings right after work. The hottest weather I have ever ran in is over 100 degrees. I live in the midwest and we can have some pretty brutal temps and humidity. It’s been a mild summer, so the hottest it has been for me this year is 95 or so. I love to sweat so I don’t mind the temp.
Nicole @Pink Elephant on Parade
The veggie fajita bowl is a gift to me… I annoy the people at Chipotle by repeatedly asking, “Could I have more salsa please? More peppers, please? Could I get extra (everything) on the side?” And the chips. Oh the chips. Now I really to go get some chipotle…
Kristin
I have had a few hotttt runs this summer. It was upper 90s one day and so humid — the air was so thick that it was like trying to breathe in a steam room. Thankfully fall has come a bit early and the weather has been so pleasant recently!
Katie
I have an “under 90, more than 0” rule when it comes to running. Given that I live in MN I deal with the “more than 0” rule more often, but when the temp goes over 90, I stick to water activities.
Stephanie @ The Academic Triathlete
I think I’ve done runs w/ temps in the 90s but it is always the humidity that gets me, even when I’ve gone on runs at 4 AM I’ve drenched my clothes and felt like I had to fight to take every step. I love “we can do hard things”, it is such a good mantra for working out and life!
Honor Hill
You’ve completely set my mouth for Chipotle for dinner…salad bowl w/brown rice, black beans, chicken, pico, guac, and salsa. Could eat it every night. Add hot salsa unless its a long run next day like tomorrow: 14.5 miles . There are portapotties along the route at White Rock Lake, but they are Dallas HOT SUMMER portapotties. Need I say more?
Lindsay
Bosa Donuts? ;)… my fave too!!! Yum!! Hope you’re enjoying AZ..minus running in 100 degrees of course!
Missy
Stealing your mantra…

Good!!!

Hi! I just wanted to say that you really motivated me with this post about being able to do hard things and I used it to get me through a tough 16 mile training run today. Thank you for sharing. I hope you don’t mind but I think I will also adopt it as my mantra. I know you are going through a tough time but I think you are incredibly strong and a huge inspiration and know the future holds great things for you! Thank you for sharing your strength, grace and sunny outlook with us!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Your comment made morning! Great job on your run! You are so strong and you CAN do hard things!
Denise P.
I’ve run in 90 degree temps quite often as I live in So Cal and I’m too lazy to get up super early for long runs.
My birthday is the 23rd!
Kay
Mmm, doughnuts and Chipotle!!
niki
I have yet to tackle a hot day run- because in Iowa hot usually means humid.
I haven’t been to Chipotle in forever!
And no Sept. b-day here. October for me!

I live in California so I have at least 4 Chipotles at my disposal! I love the salad with veggies, extra chicken, black beans, and lots of mild salsa. Pile it up!!
Colleen
So I am in your old ward in San Jose, and Ms. Bangs’ blog reminded me of you, and I found your lovely blog! You are awesome and inspiring and post lots of stories about yummy food, so I think I’ll stick around! :)
Anyway, this post made me think of the very funniest Running in Weather That Is TOO HOT Story ever:
