Links to cool articles/things about running… Every runner’s favorite way to spend their Sunday afternoon as they are recovering from their weekend long run.
Here are some of my favorites from this last week:
-The best running/life article I have read in a very long time: BLESS YOUR HEART. “Pain is weakness leaving your body.” If you are a runner and dealing with heartache right now you simply have to read this. I think I have read it at least 20 times.
–Am I Overtraining for My Marathon? It is so easy to fall into this trap, it is so important to know the warning signs of overtraining and what to do if you are pushing yourself too far.
–10 Bucket List Marathons. How about we all plan to do these 10 marathons together? Let’s start with the Honolulu Marathon.
-I found my dream treadmill. Now that I am back to living in Utah I will be using a treadmill during the winter when the roads are too icy. Plus, let’s be honest…I have always enjoyed treadmill running. The Official Boston Marathon Treadmill 4.0 fits all of my needs:) My dream treadmill: It goes up to a 20% incline (decline down to -3%) and up to 15 mph, the hd/touch screen allows you to get online and the cadence metronome helps you hit your perfect cadence. The Boston Video Workouts would help motivate me to train hard this winter.
I think we would be the best of friends. Someday:)
–Maximize Your Training Time. Great tips for runners that don’t have a ton of time to train hard but want to see improvements.
–Getting “Chicked”- A History of Women’s Running. I love reading about this!
And for my running summary this week:
Monday: Fartlek run!!! 20 minutes at a 7:45 pace and 8 x 1 minute FAST (6:20 pace) with a 1 minute recovery jog after. Cool-down 20 minutes with a pace of 7:45 -8:30 (that sun tried to kill me at the end).
Tuesday: 40 minute Recovery Run at a 8:00 pace.
Wednesday: Supposed to be a track workout but instead I did 7 miles at a 7:26 pace.
Thursday: 45 minute run at around an 8:30 pace.
Friday: 30 minute run at a 8:30 pace
Saturday: 15 miles! Started at around an 8:45 pace and worked my way down to the last three miles being 7:24, 7 & 7. Felt pretty comfortable which I was happy about. Overall average pace of 7:56.
Not going to lie, I am excited for Utah running again. 60 degrees in the morning…yes please.
PS Brooke played fetch by herself for an hour straight today. She got crawling pretty fast after she threw that ball.
What was the best run of your week? The worst?
Any good running articles you have seen lately?

Honolulu? Yes please. Best marathon views ever I’m guessing.
Kristin
The Honolulu Marathon is awesome and fun, but the Kauai Marathon is even better for scenery! (And way hillier. Haha.)
morgan
That treadmill is awesome! that would actually get me excited about ice/snowy roads. Looks like you had some good workouts this week- even with the extreme heat.. nice job. Brooke is so active now it’s crazy!
My best run was yesterday’s 45 minute trail run- ran a comfortable 7:30 pace and just enjoyed the cool temps (it was in the 50’s!!).
thanks for the articles!
Lisa Michelle
haha, love that Brooke played fetch by herself for an hour. :) Pretty much everything that girl does is adorable.
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs
Great links! Hope you had a great weekend!
Marissa
I like the links :) Best run was my 19miler yesterday! I can’t believe I did it in under 3 hours. My worst was last Sunday when the hubby had to come pick me up because it was too dang hot. Although I’m pretty sure my tongue swelled yesterday from lack of hydration.
Jessica R @ FromtheKitchentotheRoad
That treadmill is serious. I really want a treadmill so I can watch tv while running at night. Then I wouldn’t have to wake up so early and wouldn’t stuff my face out of boredom at night. It’s a win-win!
Jen @ milesandblessings
My best run was my Friday long run…it was only 12 miles but they were at a decent pace and it was after a 7 mile tempo on Thursday and I did it!!!
My worst runs have actually been my easy runs…why do you ask?…
because as nice and slow as they are they haven’t been feeling as easy as they should.
Caitlin
Kristen Armstrong is so amazing.
LosingLindy
I wish I loved the dreadmill. But I completely burnt myself out going from sitting on the couch to half marathon training.
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
I need that treadmill! I’m heading on over to check out the link about not having lots of time to train. I miss at least one run during the week and try to make up for it over the weekend, so I’m interested to see what they say about that.
Meaghan @Tale of Two Teachers
Best run was a hilly short run with a good friend! Worst run… I guess my speed workout because it felt a bit harder than normal but it wasn’t really that bad… It’s been a good running week :)
That paragraph is so inspiring! I love thinking about heartache as a growing pain… I just think that’s a beautiful way of looking at those hard things that make us stronger!
Megan D
My worst and best run was the same – since there was not one. Still just best friends with the step mill and weights. But my hamstring pain seems a little less this week so lets hope that it is *finally* on the mend! And I am pretty excited for you to be running in Utah too ;)
That treadmill is pretty similar to the one I own….or the farthest thing from it. My treadmill is so crappy. But I am still happy to have one. I am lusting after the Boston treadmill.
Jackie
What a cool treadmill!
Elizabeth @ my neon running shoes
That treadmill is awesome. Maybe I can sell my car and afford it? Probably not …
Laura
Wow that treadmill looks really cool!
My worst run was my long run yesterday. I got started too late, ran out of water 7 miles in, tried calling my husband and daughter at least 20 times so somebody could bring me water, nobody answered their phone, I was nowhere near water fountains or stores, I had to run/slog the final 5 miles home. I was dying.
Can’t say I had a best run this week, the rest were just okay. I think I’m in a funk or something.
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun
My best run was completing my tempo and speed workout! I was so happy with myself! I also had an amazing easy run today where I just ran how my body felt in the beautiful 60 degree weather and sunshine- you can’t get much better than that!
That treadmill looks awesome!
Liz
If you’re serious about Twin Cities Marathon, let me know.
It’s a GREAT race. Between the scenery, the spectators and the race organizers, it’s hard to say what’s best.
I’ve run the race a few times and also biked around the course to cheer on friends who were running.
Courtney
I hope you’re able to get your old treadmill back! But that one looks awesome. My best and worst runs this week were the same one – a 5k I ran this morning, which was my best performance ever, but during which I felt like I was completely going to diiiie.
Patty(reach-yourpeak.com)
one day I will have an awesome treadmill like that. thanks for the links! I am reading the overtraining one currently since I’m running way more than I ever have so I want to make sure I don’t overtrain.
Jillian
Kristin Armstrong is one of my favorites. Her writing is so insightful and thoughtful! My best run of the week was 8 miles around Boston with a great friend Friday night and my worst was 8 miles solo this morning. I’m writing about it on my blog tomorrow in a post called “A Tale of Two Long Runs.”
I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, but relieved you are surrounded by such an incredible family and such a sweet little girl. Hang in there, Janae.
Lindsey @ Run Freckles Run
What was the best run of your week? The worst?
I had a great run on Wednesday and Thursday. The weather was great so I went an extra mile for both. The worst was probably my 15 miler on Tuesday. I typically don’t do long runs during the week, but went anyway. My pace was soooo slow.
Ashleyy
Just wanted to tell you how much I love your blog, i am a long time reader and It’s always uplifting, even when you are going through a difficult time, you have shown such strength and grace. It is always so cute to see pictures of you and your family. I am hoping to get back to being a runner again after an injury and you are an inspiration every day. Thank you. Keep doing what you are doing :)
Lindsey S @ Run by Faith
Love both of the articles – good for the heart, soul &…legs! :) I think I just realized I’m over-training, which probably caused my ‘worst run’ this week :(
Megan S
Hahaha, yeah I hate it that the tre

That treadmill looks awesome!

Best workout of the week was my speed work on Wednesday . I hit middle 4 splits at fastest over ever ran 7:20-7:24. Goal pace was 7:28. :)
Gillian
I completed my 4th half this morning and PRd
So I’d have to say this was my best run of the week!
Thanks for the running articles :)
michelle kim
Woo! Those are some fast times to be running in the heat!!
What a great week of running :)
And that treadmill is pretty darn cool.
Runner Girl Eats
Great links! I’ve had a few good runs this week. Nothing spectacular but just felt good during each one :)
Potatoes and Pilates
That’s a beautiful quote, Janae. I hope each day is getting a little easier for you.
Hugs to you and Brooke from Canada! x
Cathryn
That Kristin Armstrong article was incredible…and the timing was amazing, I was hoping you’d seen it!
Best run of the week…a hot, hilly 12 miler on Wednesday. Worst? Last mile of today’s tempo.
Kristin @ W [H] A T C H
I love Kristin Armstrong…I look forward to her post each week!
Nicole
Um, I think I need that treadmill in my life.
Brooke is so adorable. She is growing up so quickly!!!
april
i’m not quite ready to run a marathon yet, but i’ll tag along to honolulu and cheer you on!! ;)
Betsy
I was able to finish 10 miles this Saturday, which is the farthest I’ve run in years. Thanks for sharing the great links!
Danielle
My best run was Monday. 10 miles with my dad. Worst was today- took me 80 minutes to run a 10k, ok a lot if walking. It was sooooooo hot. I’m not built for hot running. Clearly.
Lauren
I’m all for Honolulu… Even if I have to walk. I agree with sweating out your heartache. It’s how I started running and how I stay sane. I’m not a confrontational person, so running gets my steam out without having to say a word to anybody.
Mark Matthews
Best run was an 8 miler sampling shoes … swapped out 3 pairs on my treadmill, and I”m returning 2 to Running Warehouse. (shhh, don’t tell my local shoe store, who I almost always buy from to support. I did visit there, but they had nothing in stock)
HollieisFueledByLOLZ
Nice job this week! My best friend is currently teaching English to Chinese students in China so we could bum a stay for the great wall! I hear that is brutal though! Your training always makes me sad to read (in a good way) because our easy runs are at such similar paces. We would be perfect running partners. We could be matchy matchy in everything.
Jill
Oh goodness… I know you and I are going through similar life challenges and I don’t know whether to thank you for passing on that article or demand you come over to my house right now and pick my crying mess of a self up off the floor so we can go to yogurt. I needed to read that and I have almost ten times and am sure I will multiple times every day for a long time!
Emily
Janae – thank you for sharing “Bless your heart,” big or small, it was so wonderful! I had a fab 12 mile run with a friend Saturday. The best way for me to workout my own heartbreak!
Anissa Angelosante
That treadmill is so amazing. I do have a birthday coming up. :) But I doubt it is in my budget. One can only dream!!
Best run of the week, was with you. SO fun to run with someone new!!!!
Liz @ The Girl on Fire Now
Brooker is adorable when she is crawling :D
Danica @ It's Progression
I’m going through a serious running rut right now so I really appreciate the links to all of these articles!!
Robyn
Great links!
My favourite run this week was my speed 8km- I had a smile in my face for it all and felt strong.
Carson
The “Bless your Heart” article was so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing.
Holly @ Run With Holly
Best run this week: 6 miles with a friend who traveled halfway around the world to visit!
Worst run this week: 10K, in which I ran the kind of race I am constantly lecturing my clients NOT to run. Ooops.
This isn’t quite a running article, but this post and video have been making the rounds in the blogosphere this week – and it’s relevant to anyone who loves her feet (as all runners should): http://www.drnicksrunningblog.com/high-heels-are-bad-for-your-feet-period/
Shaun
I did a tri this Monday and my runners high rolled over to Tuesday. I had a great run on Tuesday. Wednesday, I fell off my high and the pain set in. I should not have ran as far as I did on Tuesday! Live and learn, right?
I really don’t mind the dreadmill as much as most people. I would rather get out on the road, but there are some days when the dreadmill just works. I will have to find out more about the one that you listed.
Erin A.
Oh no!!! Will you not be able to get your old treadmill back?!?! The Boston is beautiful, but you loved your old one so much :(
MILF Runner
A broken heart means there’s space for the light to shine through. The quote you included in this post is just PERFECT. I love how you are caring for YOU at this time. I tend to not read running articles but do read pieces dealing with matters of the heart. I love Oriah Mountain Dreamer on Facebook and read her every day. My best “run” this week was today in the pool. It was also my only “run.” Unless you count the 5 steps I ran down the hall to get pajamas on my littlest.
Kira @ cyclingthrough.com
My best run this week was an easy 3 miles with my little brother! My brother doesn’t run but was in town for my sister’s wedding and we just talked and talked and talked. Siblings are the best!! He is moving to Salt Lake City funny enough!!!!
I love the first link. You are doing all the right things in this tough time. I started running after a painful miscarriage and surgery and I swear I ran through grief, anger, depression, ect straight to healing. Way to go, Janae!!
Racheal @ Running with Racheal
What an amazing article. Running is so therapeutic. Thanks for sharing! <3
Amy @ Long Drive Journey
That article gave me chills. It always feels good to be reminded that we are not alone.
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
I read that over training article as soon as I saw it! great read. That treadmill is awesome. I just have an addiction to seeing all my friends at the gym. :-) maybe I can talk them into getting one.
Debbie @ Deb Runs
Thanks for the links to the articles. My best run was on Friday because the weather has finally turned cool here in the mornings, and Friday morning ti was only 55 degrees!
Why did it take so long for treadmills that decline to be designed?
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast
Thanks for the links! Keep running it out…
Kimberly @ Keeping up With Kimberly
The Maximize Your Training article is exactly what I needed to bring me out of my recent funk. I’ve been struggling with how to keep up with running while juggling work, grad school, and all of my other responsibilities.
Thanks for posting!!
Lisa
That treadmill does look pretty cool! In our house, we just stick boards under the front to get the decline for Boston training. Old school! (and cheap!)
Taylor @ Single-tracked Mind
Intense training this week! I’d be exhausted. That treadmill looks terrifying!
Monica
Yes to honolulu but mostly bc I could maybe meet you… I think my max is a half…. :). Love reading!
Kay
That treadmill looks amazing!
Stacey @ Pugmamastace
Hey Janae, I am so behind on reading blogs that I just saw your news. I wanted to reach out to you and let you know that I recently went through the same thing. It’ll be a year ago October 12th that I filed for divorce and moved out. I have been through a lot, and am here if you need any advice. I will help you in any way I can. You’re more than welcome to email me if you would like. Best of luck with everything! It does get betters with time :-). God bless!!

Your tips were good and I recommended it to my sister because she will go with me for Boston marathon this year. So excited!
Thanks.

Great post, I would be glad to read this article as a reader. As well as would like to say thank you for the same.
