Back to laying on the sidewalk + here we are…

(shorts, bra (this bra stores everything in its pockets)).

Longest speed workout in a bit done and done… and I was back laying on the ground when I finished.

was not alone in this need. It was so hot, and we pushed it so hard.

We even stopped for water and used napkins to attempt to dry our faces off.

We stop everywhere possible for water.

4-mile warm-up, 2 x 2 miles (6:06 & 5:58 average for those, but both included plenty of downhill), cool-down until we hit 12 miles. I might even hit 60 miles this week… what is going on?!?

It felt so good to have so many people back running together again. I am 100% a social runner these days.

A typical day for us!

My stress levels at a splash pad vs. a pool are very different.

Beck tried to convince us that Skye also needs to be taking naps.

And we watched the Women’s World Cup.

Well, I signed up for the marathon. I swore I wasn’t going to this year and here we are…

Give me a pro or two about summer running!

Is anyone else watching the Women’s World Cup?

Marathon training question… at what mileage do you peak for the marathon?

Your summer days look perfect!

It was so hot and humid here this morning for my run. It was like running through soup. Maybe I was “lucky” that I had the stitches from my leg removed and could only go 3 miles, haha. Also, if anyone has tips on healing from stitches from a deep cut (lower leg), any advice would be appreciated. It will be 2 weeks on Saturday and I still have a lot of swelling by the stitches (now removed) that goes down to my ankle. I am hoping it doesn’t break back open! The doctor did clear me for running.

Tips for summer running: Put ice in an insulated tumbler and put it in your sports bra before you start your run or if you stop back at your vehicle. Lots of water stops. If its really hot, I will bring a sponge and soak it at every water fountain/river we run by and stick it in my bra as well;-).

Have a great Thursday, Janae!

Running through soup… you are incredible! I think I would have stayed inside by a fan;) Ummmm how did you get this horrible cut??? You okay? The sponge is just brilliant. I need to do that! Thanks Becky, you too:)

I wish it was some cool story, but while I was moving, I tripped over a bag of sugar and cut it on the corner of a plastic bin lid. Of course it was 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday. I had just spent all day moving and was about to sit down and eat ice cream. I had some wonderful friends come bring me to the ER.

Girl, I was wanting you to give ME a pro about summer running ;-)- I am having a hard time getting out the door these mornings!
I guess my one pro is that I feel like my general slowness is warranted. I’m looking for a change of scenery to motivate me this weekend when we head to my mom’s house in your neck of the woods.

We watched WC last night… I’ve never been into soccer but with my son playing on a league team both my husband and myself are trying to make an effort to get the nuances of the game. We are baseball people, but it’s bene really fun to all watch it together. They play HARD but I was happy to see all hugs between the teams at the end.

I’ve never run a time like you, but I generally peak around 50… IF I do a full again I might try a little more since this last year has been all about creeping up my mileage during the week… for now I’m just pushing myself to get out there and remember I ALWAYS have a better day when it starts with fresh air.

PS: I feel you on splash pads. We have a pool and I’m okay when it’s just us, but any group/public pool situation, especially when my kids get really wound up makes me a 10.

Arianna! Hahaha I will try to give you more pros. Have the best time running around your mom’s house! Oh my goodness those hugs gave me goosebumps. The strength of those women is amazing. You are so right, the day is guaranteed to be better with a run to start it out. A 10 is for sure… there is just too much that can happen at those public pool get togethers! Have the best day, Arianna!

Summer running is my favorite! We definitely have an intense summer in the South, with temps reaching high 90’s and sometimes breaking 100. The humidity is almost always above 70%, and the actual feel is well over 100. I LOVE IT! I feel so tough after a summer run, and my “pros” include sweet sweet tan lines, better skin from all the sweating, walk breaks don’t make me feel weak bc they are necessary, and having a cold drink after tastes even better!

I am attempting my 5th marathon in November, and I will peak with mileage in the 50s…………..I don’t think I have ever had more than 55 miles in a week. It’s just enough for me without getting injured:)

Loribeth, you are so so strong. Honestly, I LOVED reading your comment and the pros of summer running. It made me excited for my next summer run. That sounds like the perfect amount of mileage. You’ve got this, Loribeth!

I freeze my water bottle about 3/4 full overnight, then I will it the rest of the way on my way out the door. I wrap it in a wash cloth. The wash cloth absorbs the moisture off the bottle so when I need to wipe my face I have a cool damp cloth to use.
It is so hot and humid here. I am hoping that this heat training will help me have a good 1/2 Marathon in a month.

Well, this is just brilliant. Thank you so much Heidi, I have to try this. You are going to be so ready for your half next month and I would love to hear all about how it goes!

Hi Janae! My favorite part about summer running is that it’s bright out early! I like winter temps but not running with a headlight. I’m impressed the sidewalk wasn’t too hot to lie down on!
Have an awesome day!

Best summer running pro: early DAYLIGHT!! But also seeing all the wildflowers, running on dirt after the snow melts, and cold ripe summer fruit post run!

and Ahhhhh you signed up!! Congrats!

Biggest pro there is… It always makes me wonder how we get out during the winter in the dirt. Oh and amen to the post-summer fruit! Thanks Michelle, let’s see if I can get training for it now ha:)

It may have been too hot but I didn’t notice since I was dead;). Seriously that morning light is life changing. Thanks Amy, you too!

Ha ha… Just yesterday after my run, I was going to lay on the ground, but it was too hot. So I came inside and laid down right under the ceiling fan… Heaven.
I’m loving reading all these summer running tips. I guess I could offer getting out early!! I have not been good about that this summer. I also stop at almost every drinking fountain too. So I guess I actually plan my route better in the summer because of that.
When marathon training, I think I peak at 50-55 miles. I’m interested in higher mileage training though.
Yay! I’m happy you’re going to be running St. George again. I really do love following along with your training.
Have a great Thursday!

So much smarter to go under the ceiling fan… I can’t wait to have one again. So so true, it’s so motivating to get up and going when you know it is only going to get hotter. Thank you, Wendy…. let’s see if I can really get on board with training again haha. Have a great day, Wendy!

Pros about summer running — no ice, and the air doesn’t hurt my face!
When I’m in training for a marathon, I typically peak at 70 – 75 mpw, with an average weekly mileage of about 50. When I am not training, I run 20 – 30 mpw. Huge difference, but my body can’t sustain week after week of high mileage like some can.
I’m excited for your next marathon. I am not signed up for anything at the moment. Still a little burned out from Boston and enjoying running and being active just because it’s fun.
Have a great day, Janae!

I’m running St. George too! Hope summer Texas training helps ;). I live in hot and humid, squishy shoes weather. My best advice heat… pedialyte after 😂😂
