Hungry Runner SISTER Guest Post!!!

Hey everyone!! My incredible sister is here with you today for a guest post and I can’t wait for you to get a few minutes with her.  She is the best and I lucked out big time to get her.  PS she did my hair and make-up for the wedding too.  This is her second post ever (once upon a time she wrote a post about a race she did years ago and how she ate Panda Express right before) and she is very excited to make an appearance here again and she has the best news ever.  PS my mom is in charge of all comments this week… but seriously;)

————————————————————-

Hey everyone!  I hope your Monday is a good one….   We have a surprise for you!!!!

IMG 0305

O is a big brother!!!! If you were wondering why I haven’t been around as much on the blog it’s because I’ve been pregnant and chasing around all of these little ones.  Back to back pregnancies might be one of the hardest physical things I’ve ever done.

NewImage

I am now officially a mom of FIVE kids.

Life.  Is.  Crazy.  But it is sure beautiful.

IMG 0204

Let’s be honest here, I don’t actually sleep anymore.  I will someday but definitely not for quite some time.

It’s gotten to the point where if somebody offered me a million dollars or a nap… I would choose a nap:) My husband is beyond amazing and the older kids are the best helpers but as for right now, we take life one day at a time.

IMG 0105 1

My main goal right now is to keep my kids alive.  Beyond that, I have no goals;)  If I shower for the day I give myself a pat on the back and say, “Good job, way to be productive.”

Over the years my exercise has changed a lot.  For years I ran or I focused on strength training and I could join Janae in the canyon for our random miles together.  I’m sure down the road we will get back to that again but for now I focus on taking a few walks a day with the little ones and a few times a week I make it to the gym before the kids wake up for the stair climber or elliptical.  There is a time and season for everything in life and the time and intensity I used to spend exercising honestly exhausts me just thinking about it.  Maybe one day I’ll be back to that but for right now I’m enjoying these walks.

 NewImage

Turns out thumbs make the best pacifiers, they never get lost.  Win-win for everyone involved.

IMG 0153

Being a mom brings me so much joy.  These kids have my heart!

IMG 0286

This man here is beyond amazing.  I feel like the luckiest person to have him by my side and I’m really lucky to have found him. I feel like Janae and I sure have had a lot in common over the years especially when it comes to having the same parents (hahah I kid but really, I am so beyond happy she has found Andrew and that they are now MARRIED).

IMG 0135

Maybe in the future I’ll write a post on the blog about food or fitness but for now… I’ll just include a million random pictures of the kiddos.  Which is actually what Janae does pretty much every post;)

This selfie only took about 500 tries.  I had to angle my face just right… You’re welcome.  Please don’t think this is a spontaneous selfie.

IMG 0316

Usually my selfie looks more like this.  Hahaha Janae is not here to stop me.  And yes, that is her retainer.

IMG 0834

I hope you enjoy the rest of the day!

IMG 0143

Love you so much sissy (Janae).   I hope you are having a blast in Mexico.

I can’t imagine having five kids! I do feel your no-sleep pain though as the two I do have are 13 months apart. Now that they’re 2 & 3, I get more sleep for sure. From the time I was about 8 months pregnant with my first until my second was a year old (a little over two years) I didn’t sleep more than 3 hours straight in a day!

You can make it through this season for sure! You have a beautiful family!

I need to start getting more sleep. I usually get 4-5 (I know that’s not a good thing), but last night I got almost 6. Weekend naps are my best friend.

It’s hard to pick one favorite sibling moment, but there was one time in high school when it started pouring raining, and my sister and I looked at each other, ran outside, sprinted to the end of the street for no reason, danced in the rain and then went back inside. It was silly but really fun. :) Also, two years ago, we took a random road trip to Tennessee, and we made plenty of memories along the way!

It’s incredible how close you both are. I’m extremely close with my brothers and family as well. While I don’t have children, my fitness, goals and life has changed throughout the years. Now I’m on the road to recovery after a (fracture) set back in my ankle.

Congrats on the new little one!

I don’t have any siblings and I’ve always been jealous of big families. My dad is an only child too, and my mom only has one sister that never had any children so I grew up in a really small family.

In exchange for guest posting on her blog, Janae should look after the kids one day while you take a nice looong nap :)

I love everything about this post! Congratulations on your newest family member. I only have two little ones but they hate to sleep so I haven’t been getting a lot either! Maybe in another five years or so :)

And yes my fitness regime has changed a lot since I had kids. I used to spend hours in a yoga studio, but after the kids were born I started running so I could just lace up my shoes and go out the front door. I have been running all of my runs super slow and easy so I still have energy for my kids when I get home (see above where I get no sleep!).

Congratulations all around to you and Janae!

You have my TOTAL RESPECT! And you still look more fresh than I ever do (with zero kids over here)!

Our racing season is in full swing and we are feeling pretty fit in this stage of our lives. I do wish I had more motivation to strength train and I posted today about needing more hills in my life. After our 48 hour race, we have been trying to rethink our training to see how we can step it up without just adding junk miles. It is always a work in progress!

Keep up the awesome Mommying!

Reply

Congratulations on each of your five blessings! And enjoy each and every minute with them. You will still get your exercise just in different ways but it’s oh so much more enjoyable, well, most of the time :)

Reply

Your nap comment made me laugh. My parents offered to watch our kids and my mom asked what we were going to do. Told her all I wanted to do was nap! Congrats on baby #5? How old is your little guy now? (The one before new baby). Isn’t it funny how much you think about sleep when you aren’t getting any?

Reply

Congratulations on your new sweet baby!! I feel ya on the being tired thing, my boys are 10.5 months apart! They are now 18 months and 8 months and slowly but sure we are getting more sleep. My exercise has changed so much over the years- I went from running marathons and half marathons all the time and now I’m happy if I make it to the gym 3 days a week. I know I will be able to get back to normal, intense exercise again one day….maybe in twenty years but one day :)

Reply

Oh my goodness! This family is full of awesome surprises this week! I had a huge grin all through this post! Thank you for guest blogging!!! Congratulations!!!

What a beautiful family!!! Congrats on your newest bambino!!

Whoa, you are amazing Sissy!!! Congrats! I definitely agree that showering under these conditions is a huge accomplishment. No, really though!! ;) :) Hope you make another guest appearance soon!!!

Reply

how much sleep did I get last night? not enough. this weekend has been draining and I feel like I could sleep for a decade and not be fulfilled haha.

my fitness right now is a little bit all over the place. I’m coming off an injury and needing to take it nice and slow to make sure I’m okay which is something I’m not used to and is more than a little bit frustrating.

finally, congratulations! how exciting!!!!

Reply

Congratulations on your new one!! You look and sound so happy! :)

Girl, I haven’t slept in YEARS! I had 4 kids in 4 years (twins in there) and someone always wakes up. I keep thinking that maybe in about 10 years I’ll get to sleep. Maybe??
I’ve actually kept running through the years…with a few breaks here and there (immediately post partum, etc).
From the way janae describes you, I sure wish I had a sister like you!

Reply

Congratulations on your newest blessing! What a beautiful family you have! You look gorgeous, as always. I love how close you and Janae are. You guys have the sweetest parents! We have twins who are older and easier now but yikes we still remember the sleepless nights! You’re a supermom! My fitness has definitely changed through the years. I remember working out just so I could eat whatever I wanted. Boy did that change in my 30’s. We are constantly changing up workouts and eating habits as we age. Nowadays, we try to wake up before my husband goes to work and before the kids wake up to workout.

Reply

Wow!!! Congratulations! what a handsome little guy!! :) you certainly have your hands full! I totally agree about there being a season for everything. I currently have twin 2 year olds and go to nursing school so I go to the gym 5 days a week which I’m proud of but it is no where near the training I used to do and I’m perfectly fine with it. Crazy hard training just isn’t in the cards right now. It is comforting to hear another athletic mom with the same position on that!

Anyway- enjoyed your post and congratulations again on these special events and happy times for you, janae, and your family!!

Reply

Congrats on the new addition!! I just had my second 4 weeks ago!! Being a mom is the best! Enjoy this time and I’ll be praying you get some sleep ?

Reply

Congratulations! A new baby is always exciting!

My daughter is 6 and still gets up most nights. She has slept all night the past 2 nights in a row and it has been awesome!

You & Janae have the best hair! Do you use the same hair iron thing that Janae uses?

Reply

Congrats on your new little one!! how exciting!! I can’t imagine having 5 kids!! You manage to do it and still look flawless!! Love seeing pictures of all of the kiddos! I had about 6 hours of sleep last night, which I’d say is pretty good for me! Love hearing from you and I hope you guest post more often!!

Reply

Congrats on the new arrival – that’s so exciting!

Reply

Great post! You should guest post more often now that you’re juggling 5 kids and still managing to look fabulous! Congratulations on being a mama again – keeping your kids alive IS the most productive thing in the world, so remember that when you’re having a “not so productive” day.

Reply

Ha this post was hilarious! Congrats on the new little one. :) My husband and I don’t have kids yet, so we usually get 8 hours of sleep a night…no complaints here! :)

Reply

Love this!!! There is a season and your walks look just perfect!! Your children are adorable. I have 3 kids and am entering a new season where my youngest starts school and am realizing how fast it all goes by. You have your priorities on point. Exercise will always be there but the kids won’t. I also have an older sissy and love her to pieces too and she would totally post a pic of me with a retainer lol

Reply

Congrats!!!! How on earth did Janae keep this a secret? It must have been killing her!!!! Hahahaha. Thanks to the flexibility with my job, I can sleep in later and I was able to get about eight hours of sleep last night. I used to only get about five, so I’m happy. :) congrats again!

Reply

You two look really similar! I stayed up WAY too late last night watching the Olympic trials and getting some work done. I’m paying for it today!

Reply

Sleepless-nights, five kids and you still look beautiful like that??!! I want your secret ;-) Seriously, it’s good to see you around and looking so happy and living such a fulfilling life. Wishing all the best for you and your family (including a nap in the near future!) ;-)

Reply

I love how you and Janae and so close! It reminds me of me and my sisters. Sisters are the best!

Not much sleep last night, I blame pregnancy insomnia (apparently it’s a real thing!) I hoping for a nap later today ;)

Congratulations on your new little one!! Five kids is awesome. My husband and I would love to have a big family someday too. (Starting off with our first right now!!)

Reply

Wow congratulations! Your family is full of surprises lately :) Such a beautiful family and you all look so HAPPY!

Last night I didn’t get much sleep (compared to you, though, it probably sounds indulgent). Fell asleep around midnight thanks to the gymnastics trials, and woke up around 5:00.

Reply

Thumbs really do make the best pacifiers! You can’t lose them and the don’t drop on the ground and get dirty. (and I had one of each child so I can say that).

My kids are of sleeping age now so they don’t keep me up but since I work night shifts I don’t get normal or full nights of sleep. The days I sleep I only get 4-5 hours because I’m up in time to get the kids from school.

Now that I work nights and sleep in the day my exercising and running has changed. I just look at it like “my season of life right now” also. I really don’t have the energy to run after working all night or before going back in the very next night. And on my days off I feel like I need to run errands, plan meals, etc. So I’m kind of in a stage where I just want my kids, husband, and household to continue to operate smoothly and not consume myself with running.

Reply

Stop with all of the surprises!!! What else has Janae been hiding from us?? Congrats to your family, you sure make some beautiful babies!

Reply

Congratulations on the new baby!! Can’t believe you guys kept that secret all this time!! ?

Reply

Omggggg what an amazing surprise!!! Congratulations!!! Having two babies so close in age is a huge pat on the back!! I have a one year old boy (my first!) and am expecting baby #2 in Feb and am excited but also a little weary about juggling sleep and life with two kids…I’m sure that sounds silly when you have five…but your comment about everything being a season really resonated with me and reassured me that I’m in the right place and getting everything done just won’t be happening during that season of life next year :) thank you so much for sharing your joy and story as a mom…look forward to seeing more updates in the future! Your family is beautiful and you are blessed!

Great photos! My fitness is mostly running, but it feels soooooo much harder in the heat and humidity in Tennessee! Cannot wait for the fall! I am the oldest of 8 kids, so most of my memories of my siblings involve me babysitting, but when I did that I could convince them to dress up and we would record music videos where I was the director and bossed them around-ha! I also loved our 4th of July traditions: parade in our small town, 4-H cookout, petting zoo and carnival on the courthouse lawn, then hot dogs and watermelon and water balloons at home! And yes, they embarrassed me……….again, I was the oldest of 8!

Reply

Congratulations on the new baby!!! You hid it well!! I grew up in a family of five and my brother and his wife have eight kids. They wanted a big family and each of their children are so different, unique, and special. I have one. A much older Brooke. You have such an amazing family. In my opinion, you get more exercise than all of the rest of us combined (okay just kidding on that last part). No wonder you can’t think about an exercise program right now. Mother’s of newborns and a toddler are constantly on the go. :)

I love your blog post from the past (blast from the past). It is very entertaining. You are a good story teller! :) Thanks for taking this on when you already have your hands full. :) We appreciate it.

Loved today blog a lot …lovely family .
It is nice to get to know the great sister …

Reply

Congrats on your new addition!! Thumbs are the best pacifier. My daughter used to wake up constantly because she dropped her paci, I’m so relieved she found her thumb! I may have different feelings about this if she’s a 5 year old still sucking her thumb..

Reply

Janae, you are such a good secret keeper! Congratulations on #5! Your family is just beautiful!

Reply

My activity level is nonexistent now that I have my twins. I hope to someday be a bit more active but for now, I’m exhausted enough from the lack of sleep and have little desire to do much of anything

Reply

Congratulations on the new baby and your beautiful family! Anyone who is caring enough to run miles in flip-flops with your sister is certain to be an amazing mom too! Thanks for the fun post.

Reply

Congrats on the new addition :) Your (now 2nd) youngest is the CUTEST and the new little guy resembles him a lot!

i’ve focused on running over the last 4 years, however, I used to be a soccer player.

Reply

Congratulations on your sweet baby! Sounds like a busy and exciting season :) Question – any thoughts on the double stroller? I have two kiddos under two and am on the fence about getting one (and what to get should I get one)…any recommendations or feedback would be much appreciated!

Reply

Wow! Congratulations to you and your family! Your parents must be the most excited as they sound like super star grandparents to their bundle of grandkids!

You also look fantastic for someone who just had a baby! Holy smokes!

My fitness went from working out 6 days a week in March (running and strength training), to walking a few times a week (5-months pregnant at the moment with little energy)

Sleep – 10hrs…. I feel greedy after reading your post about your lack of sleep but come December, it will be my turn and I won’t be sleeping much with a newborn!

Reply

I think it is the funniest thing that you are trying to embarrass Janae while she is gone :-D

This makes me miss my sister even more. She is 5000 miles away (at home in Germany) and I would do anything to just spend 5 minutes with her and give her a big hug.

Reply

Congratulations on 5 adorable children!

I can totally relate to the statement that back to back pregnancies is the hardest physical thing.. EVER.

My littles are exactly 16 months apart. They are 16 months and almost 3 now, and while I love their bond, I am STILL having problems from my “pregnancy and nursing marathon”.

Congrats! Beautiful families on this blog, and that’s why I love it!

Reply

Congratulations on your new baby! Five kids! Must be a very chaotic life but I bet the joy is five times more!!!
We have two girls, two years apart and it’s still hectic so I can only imagine how busy your life is….

I’ve been feeling more fit and strong this year than last year!!!

The secret is out! I wish you would have shared the ‘chocolate lab’ story when Janae told you she started dating Andrew. Not going to lie, it is one of my favorite stories of all time.

Before kids and up until I had Felicity, I had always gotten up at 5am to go to the gym to exercise. I even did that after I had Felicity for a while…and then I just got burned out. I needed a nap daily, but I couldn’t get a nap daily and I was just always exhausted. So I started doing mostly at home workouts and only going to the gym occasionally. That also means my workouts have gone from being AT LEAST an hour or more to usually 30-45min. I just don’t have time. That is a lie. We could all make the time, but I don’t want to. Ha! I am still healthy and can be there to run and play with my kids and that is what matters.

I love how close you and Janae are. Felicity and Annabelle are 7 years apart and I pray they have the same relationship you guys do! You are such a great sister and mom. I hope you get that nap soon! ;)

‘Chocolate lab’ story?? What are we missing out on?!

Wow! Congrats on baby #5!!! That is so awesome. My sister had her fifth earlier this year. I don’t know anyone does it. I can barely take care of myself. haha Kidding. You have a beautiful family. Maybe sometime you can do a post on how you do your hair and your eyeliner, it all looks amazing!!

Yay for the guest sister post! Congratulations on the new baby, and thanks for keeping it really real on here.

Awww, congratulations on another little handsome guy! And bless your heart with the back to back pregnancies. You’re doing amazing, hang in there!

I’m really close to my sis too and neither of us would hesitate to post a picture of the other from our braces & unibrow stage.

Hoping there’s a (well deserved) nap in your future!

My sister’s 5th is going to be 1 this August….she has 4 girls and 1 boy (the boy being #2 of 5!!) Crazy…..but, like you she says the others are great helpers and you just roll with it. ;-)

Congrats!

You look so beautiful and I’m so happy for you! Motherhood looks good on you. My five kiddos aren’t babies anymore, but believe me, I still rarely get a good nights sleep. ;) Exercise for me is constantly changing and adapting to my stage of life. Right now I try to get in at least a half an hour a day of something. This could be walking, riding a stationary bike, yoga, some simple weight training, or dancing around the kitchen with the kids. There definitely is a time for everything and sometimes your right now does not include training for marathons.

Reply

Congrats on the new baby! Your kids are all adorable (I guess your oldest would prefer handsome or cool, yeah?)

My fitness is crazy – sometimes great, other times nonexistent. I’m in a completely different season of life since I’m 52. Sometimes I don’t sleep all night and there aren’t any babies in our house! thank you, hormones.

I’m the youngest of 4 so my siblings embarrassed me quite a bit, but I’m pretty sure I evened the score. With that many of us there are so many incredibly great memories. I now live 2500 miles away so we don’t get to make as many new ones.

Reply

My sister embarrassed me on a daily basis in high school.

I feel you on the sleep, I just had my third kid and he may sleep like a champ but still having three is exhausting, so 5 deserves a whole year with of sleep and showering as a reward!

Reply

I never used to care much about fitness until summer of 2011 — something just switched and now I’m full on obsessed with fitness and nutrition. Not that I’m very good at it yet — still learning what works for me and my body — but I’m on my way!

I couldn’t agree more with this post. I’m now past where you are at my boys are 15 and 12 so I can exercise whenever I want and I’m now taking advantage of it. I worked full time when they were little and I felt like I didn’t get enough time with them to spend any of it away from them and sleep was to precious to get up at 5 am to make time for the gym. I don’t regret it for a moment. Before my boys I always exercised so it was hard but I had to tell myself that my exercise was steps with laundry baskets and chasing them around all day. You have a great plan, one day at a time and it does help to have an amazing ally (my husband is one too). Trust me when you get to my side it is bittersweet and you’ll be glad you enjoyed every moment with them.

Reply

Congratulations on a new little one! He’s adorable… I love when Janae share photos of all the kids! I can’t imagine how you do it all, I have three and I can’t imagine 5! You always look great running after all those kids too! I am one of 4 so I love having a big family and lots of sibling memories. We all live close together and I hope my kids stay close too!

I fantasize about sleep all the time! There is not an hr that passes when I don’t think about it. Seriously.
We had a bad reaction to a vaccination here and I slept 30 mins twice Saturday night. Walked around the house with a baby on my arm for the remaining 9 hrs. I thought I was legit going to die.
I got rewarded with 7hrs of sleep last night! Unheard of!! No naps today. But I take what I can get.
Sleep is the holy grail around here!

Congratulations! The news had a story out that kids who sucked their thumbs had strong immune systems, so there’s another bonus.

I believe siblings live to embarrass each other, it’s a rite of passage.

I’m training for the NYC marathon. It will be my first full. My running has increased and my house might not be as clean but dinner gets on the table each night so we’re good.

Awesome post! It’s sweet seeing how close you are. I have 3 amazing sisters, and although we do not live near each other anymore, we make sure to talk everyday. We are all in a group chat with our mom. I can’t pick a favorite memory since there are so many. I think the most recent memory of all 4 of us being together 2 years ago when m youngest nephew was born will be one of the best times I have had until we are all together again for my wedding next year.

Reply

Favorite sibling memory: I’m the oldest of what used to be four kids. My parents thought they were done having kids, but I really wasn’t happy with being the only girl and having three younger brothers. I used to pray almost every night for Heavenly Father to give me an older brother–I was pretty sure older brothers were waaaay less annoying than younger brothers. I still remember the day when I realized that any other brothers added to our family would be more younger ones. So my prayers instead switched to begging for a sister (sound familiar?). Finally, after fourteen years of being the only girl (besides my mom), my prayers were answered! Two years later they were answered again and now I’m the lucky older sister to two younger ones.

And I just have to add that I think you are a rockstar mom. Pregnancy, delivery, sleepless nights, back surgery, and you still had the guts to give your little guy a sibling close to his age. Please remind him of all the agony and sleepless nights you went through when he gets to be a teenager/in charge of choosing your retirement home, because you are obviously a great, unselfish mother and deserve the best.

Reply

Congrats on your newest addition! Your kids are adorable.

I’m more at yours and Janae’s mom’s stage of life. My two sons are young adults and one is married (my DIL actually introduced me to HRG’s blog). Anyway, without little ones around I have lots of time to run and lift between my clients (I’m a trainer). Sometimes when talking to my younger running friends I feel a little guilty that I do have time for myself, but I certainly didn’t when my sons were little! I just happen to be in a different stage in life, and I love it!

Reply

First of all, how is baby O old enough for you to have had another baby?! Crazy!! I love your positive, yet real attitude towards having kids back to back and being a mom of 5. I am hoping we get pregnant with our second soon and can’t wait to have another little in the house. I am not at all anxious for the lack of sleep phase, but I try to have the mindset that it’s just a season and take in each season of their lives the best I can. Congratulations!! Your family is beautiful!

Oh my gooodneeess!! I can’t believe you were pregnant and had a baby and we didn’t catch wind of this! (What else is Janae hiding?? Jk!) Congratulations!! Wow back-to-back pregnancies! You are #goals! I’m currently 29 weeks pregnant with my first and I’m on the strugglebus today. Knowing you did this twice in a row is inspiring! And the back surgery too! You are one tough cookie! Thanks for a fun post! Your littlest one is so precious! :)

What a nice surprise! Congratulation on your newest addition. Baby O and my son are only a few weeks apart so I remember being so excited hearing he had arrived!
