Our Sunday and I am craving a good run…

Before heading back home we made two stops:

1.  Bear Paw Cafe in St. George.  This is my favorite breakfast spot in St. George and their blueberry pancakes and hash browns (underneath) are my everything.  The french toast here is also ridiculously good and I had a ten minute debate about what to get going on in my head before deciding on the pancakes.

PS  I took a recent survey and 81% of my family and friends said that breakfast foods are by far the best kind of food.

2.  To walk around the St. George temple for a bit.  I grew up in St. George and so I have a lot of fun memories of walking around here with my family as a kid.   PS St. George Marathon 2016 I am coming for you (well, at least that is my current plan because this marathon is still by far my absolute favorite).

On the drive home I got this picture from my friend of Brooke and her little boy.  She wasn’t so sure of this whole sharing her rocking horse thing but he was all about it.

IMG 3825

Later on the Brookers and I went and delivered treats to some friends.

Dinner was over at my sister’s house.

IMG 3937

I almost died when I saw this picture that my sister just hung up of her little one.

IMG 3938

She made tacos, lime rice (rice cooked in chicken broth with lime juice and cilantro) and some corn.

IMG 3942

For dessert she brought out this huge chocolate dome of goodness that they topped with ice cream for us to share.

IMG 3952

We left her house pretty early because Brooke and i had some major catching up to do and Frosty the Snowman to watch.

IMG 3966

Speaking of Frosty, looks like we are going to have a white Christmas and that my sister and I will get to go on our favorite run of the year in the snow together on Christmas afternoon.

IMG 3963

Two more things I have to share with you before I let you go be a productive human being:

-I want to hire the person that created this salad at a salad bar to be my mentor.  Pure talent and a lot of hard work went into this I am sure.

IMG 3755

-We had these roasted cinnamon sugar almonds at the football game.  Addicting.  For me, the food is by far the best part of a sporting event.

I am really craving a good run today. Gotta love a good Monday sweat to start the week off!

Do you usually run on Christmas day or do you take the day off?

Do you usually go for sweet or savory dishes when eating out for breakfast?

Do you have an absolute favorite race or a bunch that tie for first place?

Who else is craving a good sweat today?!

I love running on Christmas day. It’s the best way to start my morning (we don’t have kids yet, so I can do it in the mornings!)

I love sweet things for breakfast but I do have to break it up with something salty. Breakfast foods are my favorite – especially when we are traveling!

I definitely need a good sweat today! But I didn’t sleep well last night so hopefully I’m still motivated after work!

LOVE that photo of your nephew and the photo of Brooke giving some serious side eye!

I am new to running, I started in May. Just found your blog, thanks for the inspiration!

I am planning on running Christmas morning, I won’t have to get up super early to be able to get a run in! I ran Thanksgiving morning and it was great, no stress about time constraints. I like the time to myself :0)

Sweet and savory mix for me for breakfast. Pancakes, and biscuits and gravy or an omelet. I don’t eat out very often so I like to make it memorable!

LOL, and obviously I am new to leaving comments on a blog, I put it in the wrong place. Oops!

Reply

That salad tho! Too beautiful to eat :)

I usually take Christmas off because it’s always been a crazy travel day for us but not this year!

Reply

So funny that you and your sis go for a midday run-I run to Christmas breakfast because I want to eat ALL THE FOOD when I get there! LOL!

Happy Christmas week!

Reply

I usually do not run on Christmas Day.
I opt for sweet but then I usually envy my hubby’s savory breakfast.
My absolute favorite marathon (out of 23) is the Flying Monkey Marathon in Nashville the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
I absolutely love the sound of your sister’s rice! On my to do list for tomorrow!

I was hoping to run today but my legs hurt and my stomach does as well. I even have the day off of work so I have plenty of time.

That salad bar concoction is seriously amazing. I don’t have the coordination to do that but I definitely wish I did.

My favorite races are the Shamrock series in VA beach, the Atlantic very half and I think that RW does a really awesome job putting their weekend together too.

Sweet or savory is always my biggest dilemma when deciding on what to order for breakfast! I always try to find an option that allows me a little of both. :) Planning to run this Christmas – fingers crossed no rain!

Love running on holidays! No better way to start the day and put yourself in a bright and cheery mood :)

Do you wear those spike shoes when running in the snow or no? Can’t decide if it’s worth investing in them!

The Chicago Marathon and The Lake Tahoe Marathon definitely tie for first! Totally opposite feelings (big city, big crowd, lots of noise and excitement vs. breathtaking views, minimal crowd, and peaceful). Love them both so much!

A good sweat is calling to me too this morning! Christmas Day we are planning on sledding somewhere so that will probably be my only form of exercise that day lol! And I was seriously blown away by your salad bar skills, but I think that Chinaman miiiiiight have you beat! ? That’s amazing. Looks like you had fun with the dude this weekend!! I’m thinkin that weather might have be in tears this week as we get blasted with snow! Haha!

I had an answer all ready and then I realized you said “who else is craving a good sweat…” I thought you said sweet so therefore my answer of ‘I am craving glazed donuts from Krispy Kreme’ makes no sense….

I love running on Christmas day! It is supposed to be in the 40s here on Christmas and I can’t wait to run around town in my snowflake socks and ugly Christmas sweater. I’m not a big breakfast fan because I don’t like eggs, but I’m a sucker for some potatoes/veggies/bacon/cheese.
I cannot wait for a good sweat today after being sick for a few days!

Reply

I usually take off, but this year Christmas falls on Friday which is my rest day so works out perfectly. I have a hard run on Saturday so just letting myself relax and recover on Christmas day!

Reply

I usually take Christmas off from running because we spend so much time driving around I don’t really have time to squeeze it in.

I alternate sweet and savory breakfast foods, depends on my mood!

I am terrible at picking favorites of anything. Races are no different. The Steamtown marathon holds a special place in my heart as my first full marathon.

Reply

I love a good Christmas morning run! But I think it will be kind of warm here- no snow, probably some rain. I was craving a good run today and got in 4 miles before starting my holiday travels!

Reply

For some reason, I’m really craving being in the pool today! I think I need a day off running so I might go for a swim instead. I usually go for a run on Christmas but this year we’re travelling so who knows!

Reply

I need a mix of both. I LOVE french toast, but can only order it if it comes with hashbrowns or bacon or something salty & savory too.

Mmm. And those roasted candied nuts look incredible. Once I start with those there is NO stopping me.

Reply

I love the pic of your family on the couch and the backwards sweatshirt! There is always that family member. Ha!

Reply

Oh. My. Gosh! THAT SALAD TOWER! That looks so good/so much fun.

Reply

That chocolate dome of goodness looks delicious!!!
I don’t usually run on Christmas because we have an early Christmas breakfast at my mom’s house (before that we have our small Christmas at the apartment) and then we are traveling to my in-laws house for Christmas there. I usually run on Christmas eve though :)
Sweet breakfast for sure. I would be fine just eating the pancakes!
The races in our college town tend to be my favorite. The campus is so pretty and I just love taking in the sites plus all the memories.

Reply

I usually run in Christmas morning, and sometimes my dad will bike beside me, which makes it even more fun. :)

That breakfast looks SO good. I love breakfast foods, especially pancakes and waffles!!

Reply

Christmas day is always a rest day. Although this year we’re debating a walk on the beach.

One of my biggest struggles is deciding what to get when we go out for breakfast. I want sweet AND savory. Pancakes AND french toast. So hard!

Reply

Breakfast food is by far the best in the entire world! I think I could have it for every meal every day and be alright with it. St. George looks beautiful I would absolutely love to go there!

I hope you get to do the marathon next year since things didn’t quite go according to plan this time around. I definitely think you’ll get your shot and you’re so young, you have all the time in the world. I’m 24 and get caught up in “I have to do all these things right now because I’m only going to get slower,” but that’s the opposite is true! I’m so inspired by you fast mama’s because you show me that I’m not necessarily in my prime yet!

Reply

I usually plan Christmas Day as a rest day from running. Even though I love sweet breakfast at home I’m all about savory breakfast when I go out for breakfast.

Reply

Breakfast foods rock.my.world.
Running on Christmas depends on the current years plans as we adjust them annually depending on what works for everyone. This year being a Friday and with plans for everyone there WILL be a run. Yippee. We are expecting rain and since I seem to like to slip and fall, I will have to time it right. LOL Don’t want to spend Christmas in the Emergency room. :)

Reply

Sweet, always ever.

Reply

I plan to run on Christmas Day just to give me something to do because I will be on vacation and there is not a whole lot open on Friday.
I have only been a runner less than 2 years so I do not have a favorite race yet. I just like well-organized and well-marked races, been to to many local ones that were pretty unorganized.
Today is the day with the personal trainer which I love because I get to lift heavy things :)

Reply

I LOVE going out for breakfast. My decision is usually between a healthy omelet and delicious french toast.
I have a 1/2 marathon in Key West in January and I am hoping it will be my all time favorite!

Reply

I try not to run or work out on Christmas. There are just so many better things to be doing!

I am *not* craving a good sweat today! I’m in vacation mode. I’m heading to they gym to swim and do some spinning, but I’m going to take it easy today. My recovery week just happened to fall on Christmas week, so I’m taking advantage of that!

Reply

I usually go for a short run on Christmas morning because I get antsy sitting all day. We don’t have children and my husband is not an early bird.

It is going to be 70 degrees in NYC on Christmas Eve. It’s normally cold, last year it was freezing. This is a bizarre year weather wise but I’m kind of liking it after all of my 17 degree runs last year. (and I generally like the cold).

I like almost all breakfast foods, sweet or savory. I do need a little savory, salty or bitter if I have a sweet breakfast. (coffee or grapefruit is my bitter).

Reply

My favorite race is the Nike Womens Marathon in San Francisco but I am so sad they are no longer having it there. They are doing more of their virtual runs. :(

Reply

i love blueberry pancakes they are my everything! those pancakes you got look really good and with plenty of blueberries. i hate when they lie to you and say blueberry pancakes but there are only like 2 berries plopped on the top as an after thought. boo give me all the toppings! that salad is epic, whoever made that is seriously talented!

Reply

Breakfast is DEFINITELY the best meal of the day! I’m pretty much always craving a sweet and am more than likely taking this whole week off of running just due to timing and last minute stuff that needs to be done.

Reply

You did Bear Paw all wrong. Always go with the #8 (half order of French Toast, but you need it served ‘Bear Paw Style’ meaning it is stuffed with vanilla brulee, then you get the eggs, sausage and ALWAYS homestyle fries, not the hash browns. They are infinitely better) Now, I am not doubting that your breakfast wasn’t good, it just could have been better.

I hope you will find a way to forgive me. I guess we will just have to go down for a girls weekend asap.

Reply

I can only forgive you if we do, indeed, take a girls trip. My favorite place, with my favorite people with my favorite food. Pleeeeeeease.

I am excited for my run today! The snow has been melting for three days and tonight’s run should finally be completely ice free! I always choose pancakes when we eat out for breakfast and I will be running on Christmas. It will be a family affair with the hubs, the jogger stroller, and my 7 yr old running beside me. Can you believe she asked for running clothes for Christmas? Ha! It’s going to be a great day :)

Reply

I like to try new races (that have been vetted and praised by others :) ). The RW weekend is on my list for 2016.

Reply

YOU HAVE TO DO THAT ONE!! Such an amazing weekend! You will love it!

Reply

I’m with you on the breakfast love! And definitely savory for me when eating out, or even at home. Can’t help myself with eggs, bacon, and sausage :)

Reply

I could not agree more on breakfast food being the best food! Pancakes and eggs all day if I could!!! And today was a strength session with swimming. I really wanted to sweat today, but that’s on the plan for tomorrow. It’s so hard to hold yourself back sometimes!

Reply

I go for savory dishes but then I eat a bite of someone’s pancakes because I “need” something sweet :) Food is definitely the best part of all sporting events. Those nuts are addictive! I’m craving a good sweat today but today is a rest day from running so I’m going to my favorite hip hop class later…it’s less dancey and more boot camp style ha!

Reply

I am sooo jealous you are going to have a white christmas!! I am in wisconsin and we are going to have rain. How depressing! This whole global warming thing is not okay.

Agreed breakfast food is the BOMB. All day everyday :)

Reply

I agree that breakfast foods are the best! I always take off X-mas from running, but might have to squeeze in a few miles given my schedule this year! Hopefully I can get up early before everyone else– always a tough thing to do!

Reply

Looks like a fun day! I am definitely a savory breakfast person- bring on the eggs benedict!

Reply

That’s a whole lot of cucumbers!
I haven’t been running much lately. Foot problems. This year my Plantar fascitis is pretty bad so I’m just working out at home so I pudge up after all the yummy foods.
I love me some roasted sugared almonds too. You’re right – game food is the best part of sporting events.

Reply

I love running on Christmas day before opening gifts:) I probably won’t this year because Friday is normally my test day…but we’ll see!

Reply

I usually take Christmas off because it gets so busy. I love black bear diner. They just put one in Orem next to the university mall (just in case you didn’t know yet).

Reply

Oh I am definitely craving a good sweat today!!! I usually take Christmas day off from exercising, but we usually go for a long family walk for some exercise! I really like egg dishes when I go out to breakfast.

Reply

You *did* notice in that pic of your family that the lil one is wearing her hoodie backwards? I almost died!!! So funny!

There is nothing better than a white Christmas! They are predicting record-breaking 70 degrees here in NJ on Xmas day!!!! Crazy!

Reply

hahah yes… she wore it backwards all night long hahah! SEVENTY DEGREES?!?! That is absolutely crazy? Come celebrate Christmas in Utah!!

Reply

You are so sweet! I love your beautiful state! I’ve been a few times and it is one of those places that just stays in your heart.

Send me some snow!

I don’t usually run on Christmas but I definitely do some core work :)
If anybody gets the chance it would be great if you could check out my blog:

You’re lucky, it is in the 40s all week here with rain and wind called for every day! Blahhh

I know I’ll want to run Christmas day, but my family may not let me, haha. I’ll just have to get up before them.

Breakfast is all about sweet for me. Although 99% of the time I’m an oatmeal eater, if I’m going out I’ll always get pancakes.

I got a good sweat in this morning… but not quite as much as I would have wanted. This taper is already aggravating me.

Reply

I’m usually a savory foods kind of breakfast eater, but with that being said, after seeing the dessert your sister served up, I am craving something sweet right now! (Plus, I just finished my spicy Thai lunch so a sweet would be pretty perfect right now!)

Reply

I always get sweet breakfasts. Typically, french toast. Currently, the best french toast I’ve ever had is at the Good Toast in Cambridge, MA. Please put this on your list for your next Boston. And you’re welcome.

I loved St. George, but my favorite is still Des Moines IMT Marathon. I like the mid-sized races. It’s 1500 people (enough you have company, but not so much you are crowded), the hills are done at mile 9, the streets at tree lined, good water stops, good music on the course, and lots of food and massages at the end.

Reply

Yum that breakfast looks delicious!

Reply

OMG that little one wearing her hoodie backwards TOTALLY something I would do.
