Thursday things to discuss.

-We went out for a long walk after dinner and just happened to come across my favorite gas station.

IMG 4239

-They had a brand new flavor out and so I felt like it was my duty to review the Maverick Caramel Corn flavor.  Amazing.  Clearly, I have very picky taste buds when it comes to food (ummm I get ice cream at a gas station) so you should trust me on this one;)

IMG 4241

-After ice cream we made a quick stop at the park.  Within a few minutes of leaving the park there was a huge thunder and lightening storm.

IMG 4243

-Project ‘eat 3.5 lbs of squash/zucchini’ is underway.   I roasted them with olive oil and TJ’s South African Smoke seasoning and they went perfectly with a rotisserie chicken and 1/2 a watermelon.  I love having family dinner at home with Brooke.  We need to do it more often…

IMG 4232

-Each morning when Brooke wakes up she tells me what animal she is that day and throughout the day she pretends she is that animal.

Yesterday she was a flying squirrel.  I didn’t even know that she knew that those existed.

IMG 4236

-At just 2.9 years old, Brooke is better at taking pictures than I am.

IMG 4191

-This is happening today.  I have a feeling it isn’t going to feel great.  A 10 effort hurts.   Good thing I will have Josse there along with me:)  She has been injured but is finally back in the game… hallelujah.

-I used to only wear my fuel belt during races.  I started using it for training runs recently and I don’t think I will ever go on a run outside without it again.  WHY DID I USED TO CARRY MY PHONE WHILE RUNNING?!  It fits so snugly in that little pouch.

What do you use to carry all of your stuff while you run?  Do you bring your phone on most runs?

-I always have my phone just in case Brooke wakes up early.

Are you a picky eater?  Have you ever been a picky eater?  Parents—>  are your kiddos picky eaters?

Yes I bring my phone on most runs, in a zip pocket minus the case. I was never a really picky eater but 2 of my kids are, which means we eat a lot of the same things for dinner! They’re getting better though. That TJ’s seasoning sounds awesome, I’ll have to try.

Reply

I use my spibelt to carry my phone when I run.

We eat at home 5-6 nights a week.

Reply

I carry my phone and keys, etc. in my SpiBelt. My run today was 4 mile progression run. On the treadmill. Loved it.

Reply

I have a Nathan water bottle that I carry on every run. The pocket is big enough for my iPhone and a key!

We eat at home 7 nights a week usually. We go out to eat maybe 2x a month as we are saving up for baby due in a few weeks :)

Reply

I bring my phone most of the time. Sometimes on shorter ones I won’t but always on a long run or a race. I love my SpiBelt! It’s perfect for everything I need to carry!

I just finished up a 6 mile run this morning with my girlfriends!

I don’t feel like I’m a picky eater, but some of the things I don’t like are in ALOT of things (cheese, mayo, mustard). We eat at home most nights but when we get busy we are guilty of going through a drive thru!

Reply

For about a year when I was around 4 years old, I refused to eat anything but Count Chocula cereal… to the point that my poor mom had to bring me into the doctor to have him tell me I couldn’t eat it anymore. haha. Why I listened to a doctor, but not my mom is a mystery. :)

Reply

I loooove my SPI belt. It makes such a huge difference when you can free up your hands! We try to eat at home at least 5-6 nights a week. I always eat unhealthy if I go out, so it’s better for me to just stay home! I can’t go to a restaurant and NOT get fried pickles or french fries…

Reply

OMG – I love fried pickles!!

Reply

I really hate carrying things with me on the run, but since I am a slower runner on long runs I have to bring lots of water and some fuel. I have a couple of different fuel belts and a camelbak that I switch betweeen. I have yet to find “the one” thing that I love though.

Reply

I usually just carry my phone and keep my keys/ID in my shorts pocket. I’ll carry a water bottle too if it’s super hot. I’m a HUGE picky eater… so I much rather eat at home and eat out MAX one night a week. I also pack my lunch every day. 7 easy miles done and done today!

Reply

You get your ice cream from the gas station and I get my coffee. Together we are an awesome team. At work we have a lot of spi belts and flip belts. Both are awesome! They are like the fanny pack without the fanny.

Reply

For local 3-5 milers in the neighborhood I don’t bring anything. But if I drive to a running route for 6 or more miles I bring my spi belt and I put my keys in the pouch and I have a phone case that slides onto the belt.
It’s 8am and I overslept. I wanted to run 4 easy miles at 7am. I can still do it now I suppose. It’s already 80 degrees :(

Reply

I just carry pepper spray when I run (when it’s super early).

That ice cream looks SO good! I’m kind of a picky eater, but I know what I like and stick to my faves. I eat at home most nights and get takeout when I don’t…so I guess I end up eating it at home, anyway.

I ran a tempo this morning, and it felt great today!!

Reply

I bring my iPod, since it fits into the little waistband pocket of my capris, and that’s usually it.

I have one picky eater, and one “eats everything that’s not nailed down” eater. It’s sometimes frustrating to find stuff for the first, and sometimes frustrating that as soon as I turn my back, my toast w/ avocado & chili flakes is gone, because the 2 year old decided he wanted a second breakfast.

I have hills on the docket for today. Ugh. I mean, um, yay?

We eat at home most nights. We’re in a pretty rural area, but I also really enjoy cooking, and then the money we save on dining out we spend on race fees and running gear ;) Three out of the four of us like racing (the 2 year old is our cheerleader), so the fees can add up!

Reply

I strap my phone in an armband and use it to listen to music/ podcasts while I run. My house key fits in there, too. That’s all I carry on short runs. For long runs, I’ll either use my Nathan handheld and shove my stuff in the pocket or my hydration belt and use that pocket. Only use my spibelt at races but maybe I should re-think that!

I was pretty picky as I kid but I’m one of the more adventurous eaters I know these days, way more so than kids or hubs. Kids are pretty picky, esp the 4-year-old.

Easy 3 miler this morning paced by feel.

Eat at home 6-7 nights a week. Taking the 4-yr-old out is an exercise in frustration so we just avoid it mostly. Her patience is pretty short.

Reply

My day is made!!! I’m on HRG!!!
I usually carry an amphipod handheld and store my stuff in the pocket.
Today’s run: 6 morning road miles and a trail run/mixer with friends tonight.
I try to cook at home 4-5 days a week.

Reply

I always carry my phone + keys dangling on my finger + 90s headphones + water bottle if it’s over 13 miles. I’m a SIGHT when running, let me tell you.

Reply

We eat at home 6-7 nights. I love to cook.
I actually have a day off of running, and looking forward to it as I have been increasing mileage as of late.

Reply

I have an armband for my phone, and either carry my keys with me or put them in my pocket if it zippers. For longer runs I’ll bring a spibelt for my fuel and other things!

I got my run in this morning at 5AM- 3 easy miles plus one with my dog for her morning walk, and tonight I have a pump class at my gym! I haven’t gone in a few weeks so it’s going to be rough…

Reply

I use, and love and highly recommend the FlipBelt. Best fuel belt ever :) I never used to carry my phone but about a year and a half ago some crazy guy attacked me and a friend and we had no way to call the police. Now, I always have it…. and mace.

Reply

I can’t eat seafood because of allergies, but other than that I am not picky at all.
We try to eat at home 5-6 nights a week.
No run or workout today — I am going to pick my niece up for a long weekend visit!!

Reply

I’m not a picky eater and neither are my kids – we loooooove eating, haha! :)

Reply

I run without my phone 95% of the time, because I am close to home (for my safety) and my kids would just text me with things like “can I play the iPad?” or “can I have a piece of gum?”. I’m confident they are doing OK while I am gone! :)
We eat at home 7 days a week. Maybe go out to eat once or twice a month.

Reply

I am the most underpacked runner you will ever meet. I have a terrible habit of just heading out the door and going and not realizing I should maybe have my phone, money, ID, etc until its too late. *facepalm*

Reply

I always bring my phone when I run, and I stick it in my flip belt. I hate carrying it in my hand!
I used to be a very pick eater. It wasn’t until I went away to college that I started trying new things.
This mornings run was a 10 miler- it was super humid out like every other morning this week!

Reply

I carry my phone and put my keys and ID in my pocket when I run. I will carry pepper spray if I’m unfamiliar with an area or knuckle lights if it’s dark.
I’m not much of a picky eater, although there are some foods like kale that I just can’t stand.
6 easy miles with some hill repeats this morning!

Reply

I carry pepper spray in my hand. I don’t think I am a picky eater. Mainly stay away from dairy (lactose issues) and beets, peas and organ meats (cuz, well, they are nasty). My run today was a nice, cool 5.1 miles. Rick and I eat dinner at home at least 5 nights per week. We save eating out for a weekend treat. But we both really love to cook but I can understand people who eat out a lot if they don’t love to cook.

Reply

First of all: Love that striped t-shirt you’re wearing. It’s adorable and so summer-y.

For carrying my stuff I usually don’t use anything unless I’m going on a longer run…in which case during this summer heat I’m taking a water bottle belt.

I’m not a very picky eater, I just despise mushrooms and olives. If something has either of those ingredients, I’m out. I’ve actually told people I’m allergic to mushrooms because I hate them so much. They’re the woooorst.

I got 6.5 miles done this morning. OUTSIDE! FINALLY the humidity broke in Boston. yesterday it was 87 and soooo humid it felt more like swimming than running. I’ve been sticking to the treadmill as a result. But it made today all the more amazing! I also ran a perfect, unintentional progression run, which made me super happy.

I usually eat at home 5 nights a week probably? It depends on how long it’s been since I’ve been to the grocery store :)

Reply

I always carry my phone when I run. I carry it in my arm band. Besides that I also carry pepper spray that has an elastic thingy to wrap around my wrist.

Nothing on my running schedule today. I’m taking a step back from running at the moment. Feels weird but nice

Reply

I don’t bring my phone I just have an Ipod shuffle {seriously made for running} with some music when I listen to music. I am not a picky eater at all but I do have a gluten issue so I do have to watch out for that! Does that make me picky?! Running today is hill repeats, so I feel ya! We eat at home 5-6 nights a week.

Reply

I got a flip belt recently and fell in love! Now I can carry my phone, keys, gels, and anything else and it doesn’t slip! My husband and I eat at home every night except Friday. By Friday I’m sick of cooking and he’s sick of doing the dinner dishes!

Reply

9 miles this morning! I usually eat dinner at home 5 nights a week but it varies, especially in the summer.

Reply

I never carry my phone – I tried it before and it felt too “clunky” for lack of a better word to carry. It’s not a big phone but I prefer for my hands to be free and go with the flow. Aside from that, I hate having technology with me all the time – we’re attached to our phones enough as it is. It’s nice to get out and just Be.

Reply

I always carry my phone in my hand on my runs too! What kind of fuel belt do you use? I’ve never wanted to spend the money on them because I’m worried they will bounce around even if they are advertised that they do not.

Reply

The flip belt is truly amazing & doesn’t move!!!!

Reply

I love my SPI Belt. I usually have my arm band on with my phone for music.
I wouldn’t say I’m a picky eater but I definitely have my dislikes. I think I’ve gotten better over the years. I am thankful my step-son is getting better as he gets older. He’s 7 now and starting to see that eating a baked potato is better (and pretty much the same) as French fries ;-)
Easy 4 miles and strength training for me this morning.
I eat at work with clients 3 nights per week but thankfully the dietitians do a nice job and prepare yummy, balanced meals. So I eat at home 3-4 nights per week.

Reply

now that the mister has been gone i eat at home everynight. before he left i was eating out 3-4x a week-it was terrible. once i move down to MS & have no friends i’ll be eatin 7x a week at home too.

Reply

My husband is training for the Chicago Marathon and he usually uses a SPI belt but he leaves his phone at home – I kind of think he should run with it. You never know what could happen!

Reply

I am an extremely picky eater, getting better though.

Already got in my 5.9 miles this morning!

Reply

I use a roosport. And I love it. It’s small, I don’t even notice it’s there and it fits my phone, key and a few other things perfectly.

I have one picky eater and one really good eater. I guess you could say I’m a little picky. But not very picky at all. I just don’t like fish.

Isn’t it crazy that kids know how to use technology better than us at such a young age? The other day my 3 year old broke into my iPhone with the finger print code on it…

Reply

I have a quick 20 minute shakeout run before my Iroman 70.3 this weekend!!

I usually don’t carry my phone but have recently started thinking that I should for safety reasons.

Reply

I eat at home most of the time. I’m trying to save money (I start school in September), so I usually only eat out on date night.

Reply

I always run with my phone for safety. I use a flipbelt that holds my phone, GU’s, keys, etc. I love it!

Reply

I swear by my FlipBelt when I run!

Reply

Love your shirt – where from?

I carry my phone in a SPI belt! I have a couple stops that I can get water (I’m sure the people at Walgreens and the hotel love me by now for it).

I’m not a picky eater, but my son is adverse to texture, so I have to be very mindful of that while cooking. We eat at home all week and the weekends enjoy a couple meals out.

Reply

Thanks Shannon! It is from this store but I can’t find the same shirt online:

Does the belt not flop around like the water bottle belts?
I’ve been trying to figure out a way to carry my phone if/when needed but I figured the belts would drive me crazy if they didn’t stay in place!

No run for me to day … 40 laps in the pool instead!

Reply

My flipbelt is very snug and does not flop around at all. I love it.

Reply

Thank you!

I always have my phone on me, for (1) music and (2) in case of an emergency. I wouldn’t consider myself a picky eater, but I know what I like. We try to eat at home throughout the week, and save the dining out for the weekends. I love going to restaurants, but eating out every night adds up in both $$ and extra calories!

Reply

I just got a flip belt and I LOVE it!!!! I like it way better than my spi belt! I am a totally picky eater, but my kids are not and neither is my husband.
This week I don’t really have a schedule for my runs because next week starts marathon training. I am going to take my kids to the track though and do some speed :)
We almost always eat at home.

Reply

I carry my phone in my sports bra on every run for safety reasons. The four edges of the phone poke through and make me look like I have four, ya know, nips. (Can I say that on here?!?) :)

I did a track workout this morning and it hurt soooo good!

Have a fabulous morning!

Reply

I love my fuel band. I started using it on my daily runs after a scary fall. I decided for safety reasons I really ought to have my phone with me. Plus now that I wear Jaybirds I need my phone for the tunes. Win win!

Reply

I have a very lightweight vest that I use to carry my phone, nutrition, chapstick, and TP (just in case?). Right now, because I am pregnant, I carry my phone with me on every run. Prior to being pregnant, I would carry my phone on longer runs, but leave it for short runs or speed work.

When I was little, I was a super picky eater and wouldn’t go near most vegetables. I didn’t start eating salad and veggies until I got to college (crazy, I know). Any tips for a new mom on how to teach your kids to be a well-rounded eater?

Reply

Feed him, or try to feed him EVERYTHING when he’s a baby/toddler. I fed my son pretty much the same thing every day as a baby and now he’s a super picky eater because I never exposed him to different flavours, textures, etc. I also find that a lot of the things I liked or didn’t like when I was pregnant, are things that he likes or doesn’t like.

Reply

I only carry my phone when I’m meeting someone or on a long run. I have a spibelt but usually use my sports bra or wear crops with the side pockets (thank you lulu) Other than that I try to be as minimalistic as possible!
Where is that striped shirt from? So cute!

Reply

I love your pink top! Super cute!

Reply

What belt is that? I wanna get one so I can carry keys and my husband wants me to carry my phone on runs. I haven’t had success finding a good one tho.

Reply

Oh my! I think I just died! :) :)

I really really dislike carrying stuff with me on my runs. I plan my entire routes around water fountains, so I won’t have to carry water with me. I had a running belt I absolutely loved, but when I upgraded to the 6 Plus it was too big, so I purchased a Flipbelt. I do not like it nearly enough, and will often skip it because it irritates me.

And, I’m not a picky eater. I’ll try most anything once.

Thanks for the shoutout!

Reply

I have a SpiBelt and I love it! It makes carrying my phone and keys and whatnot so easy! I used to feel so silly wearing it, but it’s just so darn handy.

Reply

I know you’ve probably posted this 101 times but what kind of fuel belt is that?
I always bring my phone. I’ll carry it unless the run is long enough/hot enough that I need water, then I’ll use my armband. I like to take pictures though so the armband is inconvenient.
I was the pickiest eater as a kid!! Thankfully my parents were understanding ’cause I probably had a sensory disorder but that wasn’t so much a recognized thing in the 70’s. Most of my food issues were texture related and I’ve grown out of most of them.

Reply

I always carry my phone in case there’s an emergency, which there has been. I use it listen to music! I’m supposed to be tapering right now for my half marathon on Sunday so I’ll probably only do an easy 6 miles at some point today, and then 6 tomorrow, and then I’ll take Saturday off.

Reply

I always wear my Flip Belt or Spi-Belt if my shorts don’t have a key pouch. When I’m running long distance I always wear my Flip Belt, it holds more. But I carry my phone in my hand, even when I ran my full marathon that sucker was in my hand.

Reply

Thanks for the heads up about the new maverick fro yo flavor! Looks delicious. Also, meant to comment earlier that I loved the post on technology and how it’s changed running. It has REALLY changed the game for me. Love the strava app.

Reply

I always have my phone with me while running and a small can of pepper spray and I keep them both in my Flip Belt and I love it, I completely forget it’s there. Bender go without it. I will eat anything and everything and my 2 year old son is the same way but my 4 yr. old daughter is soooo picky!!! It is awful!

Reply

I love wearing a cycling jersey to run – 3 pockets in the back hold phone, keys, sunglasses, gels, whatever I need! For long runs, I wear a belt that holds my water bottle because half the parks in my town have drinking fountains that don’t work so I can’t depend on those.
I was SUPER picky as a child, but eventually outgrew that. Love almost all foods now.
7 miles on the trail this morning. It was slightly overcast, quiet and peaceful.
We eat at home about 5 nights a week. My husband travels for business a lot, so when he’s home he doesn’t want to eat out. I love to cook, so it works for us.

Reply

Do you think it would be weirder if I woke Felicity from her nap to mke the drive to your Mav to get that flavor? Cause it sounds amazing. Or if I asked Ross if we could move closer to you so that your Maverik would be closer to me. I don’t feel like this is an unreasonable request. My Maverik needs to take lessons from yours. I rarely go. They suck.

I looked at you dinner in a completely different light after accidentally receiving your text this morning ;)

Reply

bahahaah I am just thankful I sent that text to you and not somebody else….

Mmm I could totally dive into that big bowl of watermelon!

My husband and I both have FlipBelts. (I bought him one after he kept borrowing mine and getting it all sweaty with his boy sweat…it’s only for MY sweat thank you very much!) We love them. Keep fuel and phone in them when running. I’ve even used mine under clothes at concerts to carry my phone, ID, money, keys, etc. Hands-free to PAR-TAY!! lol

Not a picky eater but I prefer if my foods don’t “touch” when on my plate. When I was a kid I’d eat all of one item before eating the next thing on my plate. My son is your typical kid-picky eater. Goes through phases of “I only like this and won’t eat that”

Running 3 miles tonight after work.

We eat at home 6 nights per week. I can’t go too long without a burger and a beer :)

Reply

I use a flipbelt for my house key and my phone. Came in handy this week because I stopped by the grocery store after my run for some lemons because most nights I do cook from home! I felt weird about being there all sweaty and gross until I saw another guy there doing the same thing lol. Runners gotta eat yo. I a half-batch of one pot lemony creamy chicken and rice with carrots mmmmmmm.

I eat anything and everything.

Reply

I always always carry my phone. You just never know. I find lulu clothes have the best pockets for holding everything with no jiggling (the worst!). The Stuff Your Bra and Stuff Your Bra Tank are key pieces. In the winter, the speed tights with the side panel pockets are amazing.

Reply

I don’t carry my phone with me. I like being unattached to it!

I have a few short miles on the schedule today……….if I can get these allergies under control……..feel foggy today…….bleh!

I am not that much of a picky eater, but there are certain things I will not eat, and will not eat if they have touched certain foods too……..ie absolutely no mayonaise, pepperoni, bacon, other italian meats, american cheese, artificial sweeteners.

I eat at home probably 5 nights a week.

Reply

When I was in the 3rd trimester of my last pregnancy, I ALWAYS ran with my phone! Now, not so much. Today’s run is a 20 minute treadmill easy run. Not sure when I’m going to fit it in. Maybe while the toddler watches a cartoon and the newborn naps! Maybe.

We eat at home about 95% of the time and our toddler is super picky about what he eats!

Reply

I just got a fuel belt and it has been a life saver. I always have my phone and my inhaler on me when I run, and I would just shove the inhaler in the side of my sports bra because I’m gross and I’d hold my phone. I don’t know how I did that for so long!!

Reply

I’ve bought so many of those belts and have never found one that I like. Which one are you using?

Reply

Oh my goshhhh candy corn ice cream?! I’m strangely intrigued….

I hardly ever run with my phone.. I hate running with a belt and can never fit my phone in the pockets so I just leave it.
I used to be sooo picky as a kid and as a teenager, I absolutely hated vegetables, broccoli and cauliflower were the worst. Now they are my favourites and I could literally live off vegetables. So weird how it can change.

Reply

I recently got a flipbelt and I love it! It snuggly holds my phone and keys. I do carry my phone as I usually run on lonely country roads. And I use my fitbit app to track my miles and times.

I don’t think I am a picky eater, but everyone around me would argue that. I like things plain- no condiments or extra crap. I say the picky eaters are the ones who have to add all kinds of stuff to their food. And yes, my girls are picky eaters, but it changes daily what they do and don’t like.

Running an easy 3-4 miler tonight.

We eat at home probably 5 or 6 nights a week.

Reply

I use a Nathan fuel belt, and I like it a lot, though your looks more comfortable! We eat at home almost every night. With significant food allergies and a toddler it just makes sense. No running today, it’s a cross train day and race on Sunday!

Reply

I have a little belt that holds my phone, and since it’s been hot I’ve carried my water bottle with either some Shot Blocks or my keys in the pocket.

I was a picky eater for a while, but then I discovered sushi, and ever since I’ve been a little more adventurous.

I don’t know if I’ll get a run in today. I ran in the heat of the afternoon yesterday (95 degrees) and it was miserable and I ended up doing a lot of walking with the one other “slow” person in the group, and my energy is completely gone.

I try to eat at home 6 nights a week.

Reply

-I rock a faux fanny pack :)
-I am pretty picky eater only because of what my husband calls my “dietary needs.” ie a crap ton of food allergies!
-today’s a rest day plus I’m sick so I need some time off to get healthy (colds in the summer are the worst!)
-I cook/eat at home 5-6 days/week.

I love your t-shirt, Janae! Since I always leave a comment about your outfit, I think you should come to DC and shop with me.

I’m in! I bet the shopping there is AWESOME!

Reply

It is! And running around the mall is so fun and entertaining.

I always bring my phone, but I don’t know what to do for my next race. I think I might buy one of those clip on pouches for my gels. I weigh enough without wearing a belt ;)

Reply

I think I probably comment on every article of clothing you wear, but you have the cutest wardrobe! The pink shirt with gray/white stripes: adorable. Also, I have to admit, I was disappointed that your ice cream was not chocolate but in fact caramel. I am not a caramel girl. :(

Reply

Love my Flip Belt. Always have my phone for Nike plus app, a kleenex, small pepper spray in case I see a bear :)

Reply

I use my fuel belt to carry all my stuff while I run……even on short runs. I use my phone for music and I run my Runkeeper app while I run and put it in an arm band – which kind of makes for interesting runner tan lines in the summer :)

I am not a picky eater and neither is my daughter but my son is…and it’s so hard – he would eat chicken nuggets every day if I allowed it.

I’m fighting a cold that is wiping me out but I really should do a 5 miler tonight…….

We try to eat at home as often as possible – I prefer home cooked food over restaurant….but sometimes I get a little lazy :)

Reply

I can’t run without my phone! I always carry it for gps tracking and music. I wear mine in an armband
